Seaside Lagoon

I used to come here as a kid with my school and a few times with the parentals. I LOVED it but as a kid your a bit jaded and you REALLY don’t know much. This place was sort of a holding cell area where the school would take all us brats on filed trip day during the summer. We’d go to the children’s museum or someplace and then end up here for lunch and the remainder of our summer day school day.
I think the teachers liked it because it was enclosed and then knew we would not be eaten by sharks and really could not wonder off. They had life guards or employees watching so they didn’t have to work about us drowning and the water wasn’t all that deep that I can remember.
I remember there ALWAYS being theses sea slugs that would be on the bottom in certain areas and we would get cups to put the slugs in. It was gross but again as a kid we considered it a science project of sorts. Lets see how long it can live without water?
Now that I am older I am surprised to see this place is STILL OPEN but I guess folx just keep poppin out the ankle biters so this place is going to get plenty of use and I can understand why. It’s more or less safer then just going to the beach because it is enclosed so your mini me is not going to floating away on some wave.
There are no fish or other animals that might mistake your ankle biter for a snack and the water isn’t that deep. All the water is ocean water and comes right in from the Pacific so its like being in a little inlet ocean water park minus the rides.
There is seating all around for the parnetals to spread out a blanket or some chairs and next door is an actual pool if you are so inclined and don’t want to do the ocean water thing along with the sand.
There used to be plenty of parking but like most beach cities it has become a premium and there are now several restaurants around so be prepared to pay or walk a bit. There used to be a snack bar of sorts that would sells dogs, chips, drinks and candy but I am not sure it is still there so come prepared and bring some food and drinks it can get hot during the summer.
If you have kiddo this might just be the place for you instead of the beach. It can get crowded but most people will suck it up for they kids.
P. S. Holi (Indian Festival of Colors) will be held here on Saturday and Sunday, March 18^th and 19^th, 2016. Come out and enjoy.

The best choice to bring the children. shark free, big wave free lol! lifeguards are always on alert. bathrooms nearby are always clean. the sad thing about this place is that it gets too crowded as the popularity rises from time to time.

This place is awesome! For a paranoid parents like me lol wondering if my kid is going to be okay out there at a regular beach playing in the waves or wondering if they’re gonna be stung by a sting ray, etc. haha this place is pretty much a man made beach minus waves. There’s lifeguards on duty, you can picnic there, you can go up to the Ruby’s restaurant window to order food, and the kids have a blast! Well mine did. :) They have waterslides and splash pads for the kids. There’s even a deep end up to 8 feet for those who want to feel lile they’re swimming in the ocean. It’s a great little spot for everyone. Be warned though, they totally put too much chlorine in the water. Other than that, I will definitely be coming back.

I came prepared with a small tent because I’m very pale and even with several layers of sunblock I still burn. I was surprised to learn at the gate that they don’t allow tents. I assumed this was due to a safety concern. They allow umbrellas which you can see past to monitor your children but if someone puts a tent up in front of you it’s harder to see your kids as they swim. The staff loaned me an umbrella and offered to let me put my tent in the office which was nice.
The sand is not deep so despite trying to put the umbrella in wet sand, balance it between my bags and bury it as deep in the ground as possible, it still fell over and flew away at least a dozen times. I finally had to sit with it between my legs.
As I walked out, I saw 2 tents set up and told the staff. They said that those were umbrellas. They were tents that can be used as tents or umbrellas but the way they were set up (edge on the ground with flaps on either side stretched out and staked into the ground like a tent) they were the exact size and shape as my tent (actually, they were larger) and blocked the view just like a tent would. That’s when I learned this rule wasn’t due to a safety concern at all. Most tents have poles on the outside that help stake them to the ground and management doesn’t like the look of the poles. That’s why they don’t allow tents.
I was astonished. I assumed that the comfort and safety of their patrons was the priority but apparently someone in management doesn’t like the look of beach tents but a tent with a huge pole sticking out that’s lying down blocking the view for parents is fine. It makes no sense at all.
My kids enjoyed it but as we were getting ready to go I noticed thick clumps of green slime floating in the water. It was gross. Between that and the stupid tent rule, we won’t go back.

Came here today with my 2 girls ages 5 and 2 and we had a blast! Price is $ 7 for adults and $ 6 for children 2 – 17. Because of the price of admittance and to park I felt that we should stay most of the day. We got there at about 10:30 and found a good spot in the sand — unfortunately all the tables with umbrellas were taken but we brought our own so we were good. I don’t think the girls stopped playing once whether swimming, swinging on the swings, or playing on the playground. Yes it was busy but not crazy crowded and was clean. Did not see any trash anywhere on the ground. Would recommend to anyone and will be back!

I absolutely loved this place & so did my family. I reserved an area for my son’s 9^th birthday party and invited some of his friends from school. The reservation process was very easy even though they don’t take or change reservations over the phone. I had to come in & pay for the reservation & when I realized I needed to change the date, I had to come back out the next weekend. From a consumer’s point of view how they changed the reservation in their binder could have easily been done over the phone but I understand protocol must be followed. The biggest area they provide is 2 tables & a grill. They also take a hold on your credit card for a $ 100 clean-​up fee if the area isn’t clean. The good thing about this is they say they keep an eye on all the areas throughout the day and they don’t hold you accountable for the people that sit on the grass around you. It was $ 60 for the reservation and there is no refund if you can’t make it.
They allow you to bring food but there is also a restaurant window you can order from. The only thing I recommend (& this might be basic Grilling 101) if you are grilling to keep a close eye on your food. Just like a real beach, the seagulls are bold as hell. We had a few fly down & jack a couple of hamburgers right off our hot grill. It was funny to us because we had a ton of food but it might not be for other people.
The «lagoon water» is pumped in through the marina, filtered and pumped back on a continuous cycle. This makes for REALLY REALLY REALLY cold water, but just like a pool you get used to it after a while. I also love that this place caters to all different levels of swimming. The water is blocked off into 3 sections. The two outer sections go up to 4 feet & is good for parents & their non-​swimmers. The middle section is 8 feet this is where the water slides are. All children have to take a swim test, swimming from one middle buoy net to the other. They have lifeguards on duty as well, one of which was very rude, telling my sister-​in-​law to keep my 3 year old nephew away from the edge. We’re not stupid & know how to keep an eye on our little ones. She looked about 15 so we really didn’t need her input.
They also have the cleanest bathroom I have ever seen in a pool/​beach area & I was so thankful for that. I would, however, recommend more shower areas. They have a lot of people coming in daily & I don’t think 4 spouts is enough. I had to wait 15 minutes to rinse my feet while women took full on showers out in open, body wash, shampoo & all. Maybe a nice addition to the bathrooms.
Please don’t let the previous reviewers deter you talking about «ghetto people». There was all kinds of people here and I didn’t experience anything out of the ordinary of a bunch of people being in one place. No one was being super obnoxious or loud & this place is huge so there’s no need to be right next to another party. There are no «rules» other than no pop-​ups or tents & no alcohol. That’s about it.
We’ll be back next weekend, my kids are already begging.

Such a fun and SAFE place!!! It is an especially great beach alternative for families with small children. You can either picnic on the grassy area or catch a spot on the sand, there is even a playground for the kids to play in when they don’t want to be in the water. Lastly for the bigger kids or adults there are slides that shoot into the water! Definitely worth the five stars

This is a family fave but only Monday thru Thursday. Too many ghetto folks have learned about it and the weekend and beginning of the month crowd is unsavory to say the least. I’m black so I can say that. others on Unilocal have said the same thing and you can’t argue with the truth. Still a cool place.

I love this place because it’s very unique. I prefer coming here than to the beach sometimes. I like it so much because it is like two in one. It is a pool, but it imitates a beach.
When I don’t feel like going in cold beach water and I want to avoid the waves I come here. The water here is just right for me. It’s refreshing, but it isn’t as cold as the beach.
They have a huge parking lot, but the pool isn’t that big. I do hate going on the weekends because it gets really full. You need to come early so you can pick a good spot that you’ll like.
This place is great but sometimes the people that come here can ruin it for others.

I personally love coming here although the other reviews are right if you come on a bad day when it’s full you most likely won’t have a good time some ppl that come here can be a bit ghetto and don’t really respect the rules and ruin it for everyone else… But if you happen to come on a day when it’s less likely to have manny people you will have a great time! The water is salty like the ocean and kids can play in the sand but you don’t have to worry about swimming in too deep because it’s like a pool and they have cute little water slides too
I always find tables to set up on but I go off to the side where people are less likely to go looking lol

Love this place!

Sorry, but this place is SO ghetto. It’s a really nice concept all around, but the reality is that it’s filthy, and the people there really ruin this place. Of course there were some nice people of all nationalities, but it was mostly a thuggish crowd exactly like at a Dodgers game.
There was litter and even half-​eaten CHICKEN BONES in the water. So nasty. The grass areas are very patchy half-​dead grass that’s mostly dirt, and there’s basically NO shade anywhere unless you pay for reserved picnic tables OR bring your own canopy, which is against the rules but was occurring all over the entire place so I guess they don’t care. It didn’t seem like they were enforcing ANY of the rules, including their ban on alcohol.
So overall, it’s not very nice, and not a very clean or safe place to bring your kids. We still had fun, but we had to overlook a lot of shortcomings! I doubt that we’ll ever go back. Bring a shank if you go.

There is NO REASON why any adult should come here without a child, if you do, you should be on a registry somewhere, so why they charge adults more is beyond me. That said it’s a great place to come with kids 3yrs to about 12yrs old. The bathrooms REEK but they are clean. The lifeguards looked pretty focused, and there was an attendant checking the levels in the water and shoveling the sand around the play equipment for safety so that was nice to see. Bring your kids, your beach crap and your patience for other parents who don’t watch their kids and you should be fine.

Nice Hidden get away for kids and family! The picnic set up was perfect for a party of 8 ppl. We paid a visit during a weekday so there wasn’t much of a crowd expect for summer camp field trips.
Downside: water is salty/​chlorine

I was sitting on the Rocks with a friend and the fence between where we was and the little water thing, my friend heard a kids screaming for help and NOBODY and I do mean no one came to that child’s rescue, My friend Sammy just as he hears the scream jumps over the fence runs right past a life guard standing there doing God only knows, saves the kid from drowning… So if ya go there ya might want to watch your on child real good because they are awful life guards there… He had my phone in his pocket it was destroyed lost my keys… on the flip side the child is ok, and I have a summers worth of Seaside Lagoon passes lmao… shame on you watch the kids its your job!

This is a review specifically regarding their annual 4^th of July party /​fireworks.
In researching the best place to see the fireworks from the beach Seaside Lagoon kept coming up, I researched it a bit and decided this would be a fun place to go. A party, funnel cake, a festival, music and a great view of fireworks from the beach. sounds awesome right? Not so much.
This is definitely more geared towards families and children, if you will be bringing little ones it might be a good choice for you.
The first downside is that this is a fully gated space with a lagoon smack dab in the middle. The sand is shallow and not really «sandcastle» material as they promote. Plus it was so crowded there wasn’t really room for anything like that anyway.
You could squish yourself on the fake beach (literally, tiny pockets were all that was available) and somehow relax and enjoy your day.
There were very limited food choices, Ruby’s, a hamburger /​hotdog stand and then a funnel cake place. Ruby’s is pretty good, the funnel cake was as to be expected, the hamburger stand was subpar festival food — blech.
The space was smaller than I expected, could easily walk around it in a few minutes and as I noted was crowded. For $ 20 I would expect more.
The two main downsides were:
1) The overall cost — it was $ 20 to get in per adult, $ 30 for parking and at least $ 10 per meal. Eiiik.
2) The female lead band — We arrived around 4pm and there was this band playing that was quite literally the worst performance I have ever heard. She sounded incoherent and drugged up and was singing kids tunes totally out of key and way too loud. That went on for about an hour, it was awful. The next bands that came on were much, much better.
We ended up leaving fairly quickly and heading down to the «wall» on the other side of the lagoon. We could still hear the music but found a great spot for viewing the fireworks. We putted around the area for a few hours (outside of the lagoon) and then perched on the rocks to view the most spectacular firework show.
Definitely find free parking up the hill (dodge a $ 30 fee), definitely don’t pay $ 20 a pop to go to the lagoon, bring a picnic and hang out on the actual beach or the rocks. You will have a great time and save a lot of dough.

$ 7 entry for adults and $ 6 for kids 2 and up. It’s a nice concept and great for toddlers (shallow waters, no waves, sand to play in etc). But I just couldn’t get over the clientele. First, I couldn’t understand why a group of adults will come here. They were getting in the way of children trying to play and frankly at times dangerous throwing balls around in the (shallow) water. Second, I cannot understand why anyone would wear clothes in the water. It looks disgusting and makes me not want to even put my feet inside. Lastly I just didn’t feel safe around the people there. I couldn’t leave my bag unattended even for a second.
So, although I think this place is such a great idea for young children, maybe I will stick to going there VERY early in the morning when it first opens on a weekday to avoid the chaos.

I had a great time when I came here with family. The lagoon is almost similar to Hansen dam in Pacoima but this one is neater and has showers nearby.
They also sell food and it seems as if their is no clothing restrictions.

Redondo Beach’s Seaside Lagoon is located in the middle of the King Harbor area on the waterfront. The signage isn’t great, so if driving in from the South, follow the road signs for the Lagoon and turn into the expansive parking lot where Ruby’s is located. The Lagoon is on the North end of this parking lot.
There’s swimming with on-​duty life guards. The lagoon is salt water pumped from Santa Monica Bay, cooled and continually refreshed. There’s a large beach for sunbathing and several children’s climbing toys.
The Lagoon was updated within the past year. Now the restrooms are nice, there’s a closed in area to avoid the sun and the park seems cleaner. There are barbecues, volleyball nets, showers, areas for luau’s and 4 slides.
Renting the park is inexpensive, or a portion can be rented for smaller family events. My college alumni associations rents the entire park once a year and throws a really nice party, raising money for charities, and serving fine cuisine with live music. Parking is $ 4.50 with validation and the park operates from the Spring to late fall.

This place is pretty cool. I’ve been here before for the RB Lobster festival, but recently came back for a kids birthday party. The entry fee for myself and two kids was $ 16. I paid $ 4.50 for parking with my validated ticket. It was packed with families just hanging out and enjoying the facility. The walk up to Ruby’s diner is really convenient. I would definitely come back to this place. My only gripe is that should expand and update the bathrooms.
Oh, by the way Maria B-​you called this place «ghetto» as in «Compton». Well, I’m from Compton. And Compton may not be as visually «ritzy» as Redondo Beach, but it is NOT ghetto. Ghetto is a state of mind. I’m sure there are many «Ghetto» people living in Redondo Beach.
