B & W Market

B&W is one of the three dozen places near my hood that I’ve visited countless times over the years and never thought to review.
It’s your basic, local independent convenience store. Or perhaps more of a liquor mart. It’s not a bad spot to pick up a soda or snack, if you like Sllim Jims, chips or packaged donuts. There is the usual small selection of bad porno mags up front, plus cigs and chew tobacco behind the counter. The Lottery machine holds court by the register. Unfortunately the beer offerings are not to my taste (Yes, I admit I’m a beer snob).
In the last year or so I’ve mainly stopped here to do a Blue Rhino Propane exchange when the gas BBQ has run dry; super convenient since it’s less than 5 minutes away.
On one of my first visits here, 15-​odd years ago, I was perusing the cold cases for some Gatorade when Jerry Rice (yes, that one) walked in and asked for hamburger buns. The owner, a Sikh with a thick accent, couldn’t understand him. B&W Market doesn’t carry bread products, so I walked over and mentioned to Jerry that he should check out Key Market, two blocks down the road. I never learned how he made out on that purchase; not that I’m losing any sleep over it.

I looked far and wide for Vanilla Stoli and finally found it here. Not the friendliest service but by golly, they had what I needed. They also have the dip that husband likes (aka.VOMIT), but at least its close by.

Beware. Do not purchase any but booze in this store. I bought a pack of donuts, and when I got them home I found that they were moldy. The guy at the counter was unapologetic and told me I could take the another pack of donuts. The donuts had an expiration date of ⁰⁷⁄₀₇ !!! no way was I going to take another pack of 2 year old donuts.

After going to Galeotti’s and found that they weren’t open for lunch I figured I’d see whether this place carried any funky sodas. Unfortunately no luck there. This place however is pretty large as liquor stores go and you can certainly turn it up with a kegger or two here.
