Great service and great sushi for the price. The tuna rolls are legit. 2 pretty good rolls for 11 bucks is pretty good.

A traditional Japanese restaurant. Service is good. And food is truly tasty, especially the eel! A good place to go with friends.

My bf & I have been here a couple times already and have had nothing but great service and fresh, tasty food. It’s a casual and inexpensive place for sushi and our new favorite spot to satiate a sudden sushi craving. We’ve experienced nothing but fresh, buttery textures of sashimi and sushi. Our usual is the 20 piece Sashimi Lover, usually an order or two of whatever fresh fish just arrived, saba nigiri and definitely a couple salmon skin rolls. I also enjoy their rice-less rolls. Happy is wrapped in cucumber, and Spicy Soy is wrapped in soy paper. If you love rolls but really don’t want the carbs. These are great! They don’t have a huge sake selection but a sufficient selection of good filtered and unfiltered stuff. Karatamba sake is quite refreshing. Our waitress is always so smiley and friendly. She gave us a taste of her favorite sake on our first visit. She made such a great impression, we returned and will continue to do so. We’re definitely a fan and want to repeat our experiences again!

The company that I work for ordered lunch for us from this place and I was not very impressed. The tempura was passable although soggy(it was delivered to my work so that is understandable) but the spicy tuna roll I got was flavorless and the salmon sashimi(I ordered nigiri but this is what I got) smelled and tasted really fishy and had a limp, slimey texture with none of the buttery goodness and firm flesh you get with good salmon. My meal wasn’t even up to par with what you would get from pre-made sushi at safeway.

Definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants in the area. The menu has amazing selections. Everything is super fresh. The ramen is awesome. Definitely go back soon.

Not very good– the sushi we had wasn’t very fresh(I was seriously afraid I would get food poisoning based on how some of the sashimi looked, but luckily I was ok), and the ramen was not at all authentic. My coworkers and I decided to come for lunch since we’re always looking for good Japanese food, and we were the first to arrive on a Wednesday since we got there right when they opened. We tried: –Side Salad($ 3, ): The best part of the meal! I liked their miso/mayo style dressing, and the lettuce was fresh– recommended! –Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen($ 10, ): Yuck– one of the worst«ramens» I’ve had in a while. The soup was bland and not even hot, and the noodles were soggy– skip! –Deep Fried Calamari($ 9, ): This was surprisingly pretty good– the batter was actually light and crispy(despite the bulky look of it), and the calamari seemed fresh. Recommended! –BigFin Party Boat(6 pc California Roll, 6pc Spicy Tuna Roll, 12 pcs Sashimi, 8 pc nigiri, $ 50, ): Yuck– The California Rolls were the best part of this sushi boat, with the sake/salmon and hamachi/yellowtail nigiri and sashimi as basically the only other edible pieces. The spicy tuna smelled and tasted fishy, and the walu/butterfish sashimi was still half frozen. Skip! In addition to the not so great tasting food, the service was also pretty bad– our server didn’t smile once, and I felt uncomfortable even asking for the check since she was so unfriendly. I loved the booth style seating, but I sat next to the window, and there was a dying bug that I had to keep an eye on all meal since I didn’t want it to end up on my leg. Based on this experience, I will not be back here, and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone else. There are a ton of other Japanese restaurants on the Peninsula with fresher fish, and friendlier servers. Parking is also difficult since Redwood City has limited street parking, and all the spots are metered(at least the meters are cheap).

BigFin isn’t a bad place for sushi if you’re in the area. It’s not fancy, but the price isn’t too high either… Service was friendly, if a little slow, and the sushi was decent, but not the best ever.

When I think of a perfect meal to end a long week at work, the first thing that comes to my mind is sushi. The only problem is, all of the sushi restaurants in Redwood City are always so packed on Friday/Saturday nights, to the point where you have to wait 45min to be seated. Me and the boyfriend didn’t feel like waiting one night, and called BigFin and the(super nice) lady who answered the phone said that we would be seated immediately and I was there in 5 minutes! The place was full but not overly crowded, so they were able to seat us right away. The service was perfect, and the sushi quality was top notch. Their rolls were flavorful and fresh tasting, and the prices were fair. I am so happy to find a new sushi place in RWC, and I will definitely be returning.

Pleasantly surprised since there were only two other people seated in the restaurant for lunch. Was not sure if the food would be good, but because of other Unilocalers, decided to try it. In addition to their edamame and house spring salad, we ordered their Salmon Deluxe Roll and Spicy Soy Riceless Roll… both were very fresh and tasty! We will definitely come back again to try more sushi and rolls!

This has been one of my top favorite sushi places. Quality is great and the service is outstanding. Today, I came in at the last minute, 10 minutes before closing, and we received an excellent service. Food was great as usual.

A small restaurant on the corner of a street that I nearly drove past while trying to find it. [Fixed:] My family came here for my parent’s anniversary back in January. I checked in on Unilocal to get the free glass of wine, nothing special but free! My parents ordered some rolls and I got a teriyaki chicken bento box(with salad, soup, roll, rice). I’m glad they let me substitute the roll it came with for a vegetarian roll, as I don’t eat seafood. The vegetarian roll had a good amount of veggies and I would order that by itself next time! Nothing too special stood out to me this time around, but I’d come back to try some more!

Not too shabby. I ordered a soft shell crab hand roll and they deep fry it with the katsu breading, they should really use tempura batter, the crab flavor would pop more. Minus one star. Also ordered a caterpillar roll which was good. This would have been four stars if they nailed that Softshell crab… Otherwise, would eat here again!

***3.5 stars*** i came here with a dear friend for dinner on saturday evening since we were wanting some healthy food. raw fish could do the trick? there was a myriad of raw fish on the menu, standard sushi rolls, specialty rolls, and even riceless rolls with soy paper! they also had some cooked dishes like teriyaki bento boxes and bowls of ramen noodles, for those who prefer hot or cooked food. upon checking in, you can have a complimentary glass of wine. my friend chose the white wine and said that it was pretty good. after perusing the extensive menu, we decided to share the following dishes: +edamame with sea salt($ 3) — standard edamame with a bit of sea salt sprinkled on top. edamame was still warm when brought to our table, which i appreciated. +big fin roll($ 7) — ebi, unagi, and avocado cut into 8 small pieces. these pieces were not very big, and there was probably more rice than fish and veggies in these rolls, but the fish that i could taste was pretty good. +spicy soy riceless roll($ 14) — salmon, seaweed, cucumber, avocado, wrapped in a pink soy wrap. there was not a grain of rice in this roll, which was something i’d never had before. it was also a pink roll, another first! the fish was fresh and the combination of ingredients worked well together. the soy wrap was soft but did not have any taste. including tax and tip, we each paid $ 15, which is about right for the amount and quality of food we received. service was better than average, but suffered due to the lack of staff. from what i could see, there was one cook in the kitchen, making the hot food, one sushi chef in the front, and two waitresses. since the restaurant was nearly full, we did have to wait a bit to order our food and have our water glasses refilled. i think the restaurant could benefit from an extra waiter/waitress, especially during a busy dinner block. i did appreciate that they allowed us to split the bill on two separate credit cards. since the restaurant is located just across the street from the redwood city caltrain, we did see and hear several trains pass by during our dinner.

I normally doesn’t go all the end of Broadway street. But yesterday I checked what’s new right there. I found a new sushi bar opened. I ordered two rolls and uni… uni was super tasty and I like the Snow White roll. Service is excellent too.

We came in, a party of 9, at the peak of the monday lunch rush hour. The place had a nice ambiance, but didn’t seem like it could accommodate our group(there was a group of 5 taking up the largest table in the center of the restaurant). In 5 minutes, they had set aside some room for us(by asking a party of 2 to relocate to a booth), and we were seated. The waitress came by and asked if we would prefer tea or water. Many of us requested both. I follow a very specific set of dietary restrictions(keto/low-carb and vegetarian), so I apologized in advance to the waitress that I might be difficult to serve. I had already brought lunch to work in the event that they wouldn’t be able to satisfy my needs. It took a few tries to get my request across, but the waitress was patient and I was able to order. I ordered Seaweed Salad, Avocado/Cucumber rolls(with no rice!), and a miso soup. After 10 – 15 minutes, the tea came. Unfortunately, the water never would. Still, it was some of the best green tea I’ve had. It seemed that they had not prepared for our arrival, and had to make 2 batches of Tea and soup. It would end up that many of us would receive our meals before the soup arrived. After another 30 minutes, the meals arrived. The seaweed salad was incredibly tasty, and despite being not properly rolled, the rice-less sushi was as well. I am yet to have a miso soup that I haven’t liked, and this was no exception. Despite the taste, it wasn’t very much food to eat, and the items I had ordered did bring my share of the bill to be high(I certainly would not eat here if I was paying for myself!). Others in the party did enjoy their meals, and I had no reason to believe(other than the cons I’ve listed below) that they wouldn’t be coming back. Pros: — Figured out a way to seat our entire group — Satisfied all my restrictions(very abnormal/difficult for an asian restaurant) — Great tea — Taste was good — Seaweed Salad! Cons: — Didn’t necessarily pre-prepare for a large group/had to ask other patrons to move for us — Food took a VERY long time to arrive — Not as filling for my diet — Rolls weren’t tighly sealed, and fell apart when I tried to use chopsticks with them. 4 stars despite all the cons because I am a difficult man to serve and they managed to help me enjoy my lunch.

We popped in on New Years Eve for some sushi and ramen. We were seated quickly and had drinks on the table in a few minutes. The sushi was fresh, cut well and the soup tasty with a generous helping of fresh veggies. The menu had just enough variety to make a return trip mandatory. The table behind us had the flaming rainbow and I want to try it now. Loved the riceless rolls, sashimi and my wife liked the hand rolls. The staff were friendly, the restaurant had a great vibe and the music was up beat and punchy without being too loud. Reminds me of Miyakes when they were in the hall sized space. =) Hot and cold sake too! We will be back.

This is one place I will definitely be returning to. Stepping in, the décor of the place is really nice and welcoming, much nicer than the All Seasons Restaurant it was before. The service is amazing! The server checked in several times to ensure my meal was satisfactory. My meal was exemplary. The tempura was crispy and light, just how it should be. And the sushi I had, a dragon roll and a hand roll, was seasoned perfectly. I can’t wait to return!
