They have really good ice creams, they offer plenty of other treats the owner is nice enough to let me experiment it may be a little extra but to me its worth it because i get to satisfy what i crave.

Love this place! Both the lady and her husband were very nice. I always get the bubble gum and corn ice cream but they have many flavors and they are all rich and creamy.

Ice cream was really good. I have been here in the past. The reason why I give them 2 stars is because the service was really bad. It seemed like they were upset when serving our desserts. Bad mood means bad service.

Tiny shop located near the corner of Middlefield Rd and 5th Ave with only street parking. Since it’s on Middlefield, it can be very tricky to get out of a parking spot so be very careful. I’ve seen tons of near accidents since it’s right by the stop light. There are a few tables and chairs inside. No a/c or outdoor seating. They sell ice cream, smoothies, juice, paletas from United Paleteria y Neveria, and other snacks. Special: Volcan: Cucumber filled w/Candied Tamarind, Chili Pepper, Hot Sauce, Japanese Nuts BF got a scoop of lime and he said it was very fresh and tart. Fairly small scoop so he finished it quickly. I had the Mangonada. There were lots of mango chunks but not too much of the pureed mango at the bottom. The tamarind candy straw had a good strong flavor. There was a good amount of chamoy(a Mexican condiment with a liquid to a paste consistency. Typically its flavor is salty, sweet, sour, and spiced with powdered chiles) and Tajín(Chile lime salt) where it wasn’t too overwhelming. It’s still an acquired taste so not everyone would enjoy it. The mangonada reminds me of when I used to eat the powdered Lucas as a kid so lots of memories as I eat it :) The employee was patient with us while we decided on what to order. She also spoke English so if you don’t have to worry about a language barrier. Would definitely go back if I’m craving a mangonada or to try the many non-typical ice cream flavors they have. There’s an item here that is a hollowed out cucumber filed with hot sauce, chili pepper, candied tamarinds, and Japanese crunchy covered nuts. It looks like a gruesome scene out of Law & Order SVU(aka the only Law & Order that even matters) but tastes like a thousand angels singing the sweet, sweet nothings of a life well lived. It’s a weird choice to get when going out for Mexican ice cream, but how can you not got it? It’s called the Volcan(volcano) and it’s so strange to the point that there’s no way it could be any good… but somehow it is. REALLY really good. And the rest of the 10 people who came with and tried it agreed. In fact, it was actually hard to stop eating it. Luckily, it’s big enough to share. I also got the cateja(caramel) popsicle that was good, but more like an ice cream pop. I think if you want true paletas joy, you’ve got to go with a fruitier flavor, which I’ll do next time. Actually, that’s a lie, I know damn well I’m going to get the Volcan and probably a corn popsicle because I like all my veggies in popsicle form. The ladies who work here are nice as can be and super helpful if Spanish is not within your language repertoire.

Our intended target to visit was really United Palateria. Found out when we got there that this is now called Monarca. Well based on the excellent creamy flavor at the United Palateria in San Jose my expectations were very muted. That muted expectation quickly turned to admiration for their ice cream. It was creamy and robust with flavor as the UP in SJ. What do you know? Our big group ordered different flavors. I had the Chongo. Damn creamy! I tried Candice G’s choice called Volcan. It was the surprise of the bunch for me. Cucumber cut in half to resemble a volcano erupting with their sweet, tangy and spicy somewhat concoction. The peanuts covered in crunchy shell was a great partner to the simple cucumber. This sauce was red. Therefore it did resemble a volcano erupting! It was good! I think it’s similar or the same sauce as the mangonada. Friendly, English speaking staff. I say this because in my experience not all are English speaking in the Palateria or Neveria business. They do take credit cards. Parking could be an issue. But if you’re in RWC and the craving for the creamy ice cream that only places like this can offer then you won’t let parking problems dissuade you. The place is clean, no line when we were there.

I stumbled upon Monarca as I was trying to visit the Redwood City location for United Paleteria ice cream. Upon arrival I realized that it had changed ownership and was now Monarca. My initial disappointment quickly shifted to delight as I sampled a couple of their flavors. The staff behind the counter was extremely friendly in offering samples. Their ice cream is just as creamy as United Paleteria and their coconut flavor tasted exactly the same as well. Pros: Delicious creamy ice cream and treats and friendly staff Cons: None Bottom line: Creamy Mexican ice cream and delicious desseerts in Redwood City!

I think there’s one in San Mateo I went to a while back cause I got a bout of deja vu. Got the Maracuya and Cajeta ice creams were awesome for the warm day. They do all sorts of other desserts and some savory snacks too. It looks mostly like just an ice cream parlor with some crazy colors. Good stuff!
