Excellent croissants, actually all breads. Challah on Thursdays and Fridays is yummy. I love their pound cakes.

First time trying this place, 06/17/2014. Lived in the neighborhood a few yrs & never noticed it. Doubt I’ll ever try this place again. The young lady at the front counter knew pricing, but not what she was selling. Purchased 5 cream puffs(3 plain &2 chocolate frosted), a poppy seed pastry, & an unknown orange-colored dessert. The unknown dessert was the worst. I tried to smell the top of it to figure out what it was & couldn’t smell anything but the sugar ornament. Flipped it around to smell the bottom & saw there was mold. The door to the shop was propped open & it was hot today, but unlikely to be the cause. The mold had already become black, green, & hairy. Seems like it had a couple of days to grow. Went back & got my money back for the one. The puffs appear fine. Have yet to try the poppy seed pastry.

I go here to get chocolate rugelach, basically because it’s usually fresher than the ones available at the grocery stores in Forest Hills or Rego Park. The chocolate rugelach at G & D Kosher Bakery can taste good most of the time, when it’s not super-moist and therefore mushy and gross. The price is usually OK. I also come here to get chocolate croissants and that’s OK, but over-priced for the quality and the amount of chocolate actually put into the croissant. There used to be an awesome Russian or Israeli-owned bakery near Avellino’s pizza on Queens Boulevard when I was in high school. The chocolate croissants there were AWESOME and they were the best pastries I have ever tasted in my ENTIRE life. I used to buy all the chocolate croissants they had available in the morning to give to my family, too. They make G & D Bakery, which produces the same products basically, seem kind of subpar in comparison.

This is a great little bakery. I don’t have enough experience to tell you if this is as good as it gets, but as of this date, it’s as good as I could want. Bought some jelly doughnuts this morning for Hanukkah. Buying some more right now. — — –UPDATE — — And those doughnuts were awesome. I guess I wasn’t used to a real doughnut, with an almost wet moist interior, and the jelly was something like strawberry and lemon. It was eye-opening. It’s my go-to place now.

I don’t know how I’ve resisted walking into this place! Almost every evening, I walk past this little, unpretentious bakery. It always smells like cookies, cakes and bread. I finally walked in one day and went nuts! So far, I’ve tried: + blueberry and cherry turnovers + cookies + chocolate and plain croissants The only thing I’d want more of is the filling in the turnovers and chocolate croissants. Not enough! They also carry pies, cakes by the pound, individual cakes, breads, etc. The woman who mans the counter and cashier is very sweet and patient. She always has a smile on her face when I come in, which can be rare in NYC. Overall, this is an adorable, delicious destination.
