Can’t comment on the beer because I didn’t have any, although a few people with us did and were pleased. That said, my food was so-so. My meal was the Cuban sandwich, not very good mostly because of the pork which was a had a mushy texture(overcooked in my opinion) and bland taste that didn’t bode well. It was on the small size too. The chips and salsa were okay, salsa decent, chips bland. The blue cheese dressing was watered down and tasteless. Maybe try a vinaigrette? My wife had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it so that was a plus. I don’t live in Reno so not coming back here is not going to be a problem.

Had A delicious Mother’s Day dinner here. Each one of us loved and devoured our dinners. Waitress was nice but could have been a little more attentive. If you come for the food and not for the beer, try the citrus tea, it’s delicious

The quest to find a decent caterer for my wedding was a long and arduous one. Without going into a lot of detail, I parted ways with the business I had originally chosen(on less than favorable terms) and needed to find a caterer quick, as the wedding was three weeks away. The Lady and I have always liked Great Basin and we thought that giving them a shot at our business couldn’t hurt. We stopped in for a taste test and played a little secret shopper before setting up an appointment with the caterer(the food was AMAZING!). We were greeted by the catering staff(a very friendly lady named Melissa) and she walked us through all the options that we had available to us if we chose them, which was great! We weighed our options very quickly and saw that Great Basin was the obvious choice to make as the food was great and Melissa was just generally awesome. We let her know our choice and she had a contract written up and the deal was finalized within a few days. From there our experience with Great Basin only got better. We needed a person to help us cut the cake at the actual reception and the in-house baker, Gina, offered to travel to our venue at Rancho San Rafael park the day of just to cut the cake for us. We were also introduced to James, one of the chefs at this location when we dropped off our final payment. He wished us well and was also honestly a joy to talk to while we were there. The Lady and I had gone from essentially firing one caterer(due to the lack of commitment and communication on their part) at the last minute to having an entire business bend over backward to not only get our business but to make sure the whole experience was as hassle free and stress free as possible. In less than a week, mind you. Our minds were set at ease knowing that our wedding was meaningful business to Great Basin. On the day of the wedding James arrived right on time(he was concerned he was late and apologized, but he was right on time) and had the whole buffet set up in no time. The food was excellent and EVERYSINGLEPERSON at our wedding gushed over the food and the presentation. I expected, and had no problem with the idea of, the Great Basin staff just hanging out with the food at the reception, picking up their stuff, and then leaving when they were done. However, James walked around talking to the wedding guests and making sure they didn’t need anything! He even took plates when people were done and helped clean the venue and kitchen! He even packaged the leftover food for us to take home. Gina arrived to cut the cake and was not only delightful while she was there but also helped clean everything up too(the cutting utensils, the stand, the dishes, etc). She stored all of the leftover cake for us to take home; even though the baker hadn’t brought a box, Gina quickly assembled one. I am still shocked about how far above and beyond these people went to make us happy and make sure our day went well. They have made us lifetime customers to this location for any future catering or dining event we will ever need. From us and all of the guests at the wedding, we deeply thank Melissa, Gina, James, and all the other wonderful people who helped make our wedding 100% perfect and who also make this establishment a shining gem in our fair city of Reno!

I’ve been to Great Basin so many times I have lost track. I’m not sure why I have never written a review before. The food is always consistently good and the beers are very very good. But I just thought I would mention last night I came here, and had the most amazing stout ever. The Magpie coffee Stout was Unreal! It was exploding with deliciously smooth coffee flavor. I don’t know if it’s something on the menu for a long time, but if you like Stouts get down there now and try it.

Come for the beer! Get your grub on somewhere else. We came in to try the«Mayan Maybe Not» ale. We are not beer snobs, just love good beer. That was a strong yet delicious 12 ounces! Really strong at 10.3 a.b.v but completely worth it. We didnt want to drink on an empty stomach so we ordered the chicken wraps, envisioning something out of pf changs… eeeeh not quite. But glad we ordered something or we would have been stumbling out of the place. Great server, makes up for the food sometimes. Will be back… for the cerveza !

Five stars because we had really great service! The hostess, server and bar tender were all friendly and super attentive the entire night. Their beer makes me proud to be from Reno. I really liked the specialty Rosemary rye :) There’s too much food on the menu to point out what entrees to order. Just order whatever you’re feeling! The fried jalapeños and jalapeño wontons were both very tasty.

We had the Jalapeño Won Tons. The dip was clearly made with honey and was delicious. The edges were crispy with a soft center that has a little hint of spice to it. I had the salmon and my husband a steak. Both were really good. I was disappointed by substituting my rice pilaf and seasonal veggies for a salad that fit in the palm of my hand and was charged a $ 1 for the substitution. The salad was good but NOT worth $ 1 more for the extremely tiny size that it was. My husband liked his meal and the beers he had. I do not remember what he had but he had two of them so I am guessing they are good. He seemed satisfied with his meal. If the salad would have been bigger I would have given it another star. NOMILITARYDISCOUNT They did take off one of the beers. That was a nice surprise.

Jalapeño wontons and Thai chicken lettuce wraps are awesome! Usually pretty busy and hard to find a place to sit, but today we got lucky. Love their icky and wild horse ales. Nice family atmosphere and good to watch football in!

First time going here, and it was satisfying! Customer service wasn’t too bad, although they did make us wait for our table for a bit even though there were plenty of empty tables available. The menu looked pretty boring to me. I thought the food was all the same. I ordered a chicken Caesar wrap and it was delicious! My mom got the patty melt and it was bomb! We had a 10 $ coupon so our lunch was only 11 $. All in all, everything went smooth and the food was great! Definitely coming back. :)

I thought this place was on point. Good food that reminded me of back home. Wisconsin style sausages, and great beers. I will be back when in Reno. They will give them 5 stars if they put fried cheese curds on the menu.

Love the food The mac n cheese is crazy good if not good for you The blondes(the beers ya knucklehead) are my favorite, and I like the stouts here as well Nice place, my only complaint is that it’s pretty consistently loud. But hey, people talk and get loud and stuff, what are you gonna do?

Great Basin is one of my frequented stops when I come to Reno for shopping. It is located close to the Meadowood Mall and many other shops, which makes it convenient for me. The menu is plentiful and varied, so anyone you dine with is sure to find something they will enjoy. For me, the garlic fries with ranch are a must! I used to order their homemade hummus with veggies and Icky bread, but they seem to have done away with it; although I don’t know why(it was delicious!). You should still do yourself a favor and get some Icky bread, either with your meal or to take home. Service is almost always wonderful. The bartenders are very nice, and one of the beer brewers is a Florida State football fan, which is a bonus in my book(GONOLES)! I will be coming back for sure, and soon!

This place has been visited by me and many friends over the years. Their flagship beers really don’t stand out to me, but I guess they’re doing the best they can to appeal to the widest audience. It is fun to go in a few times a year to sample their seasonal lineup, since I think they are the largest non-chain brewery restaurant in the area and they can put out a large selection of beers for sampling. The food is pretty good. I couldn’t say phenomenal, but I never had something that was bad there. The fish tacos and shepherd’s pie are items I usually order. They do have many menu items that they cook with their beer if you like that. Dessert is kind of a «cookie-cutter» affair with brewery restaurants, you almost always see the same dessert lineup at breweries; so it’s hard to pitch one as a dessert destination. It’s cool to see they are canning now! Now I can take the local backpacking and skiing!

This place has fallen a notch on my list of favs to eat and drink at. I still enjoy coming here but now it is more for the beer than for the food. Over the last few visits the food has been very inconsistent ranging from overcooked burgers on more than one occasion, to cold and nearly tasteless garlic fries, hence the need for an updated review. Depending on who was serving the meal, the complaints were handled appropriately, for the most part. If they can nail down the food quality, my favs are the Cuban sandwich and the BBQ Bacon Burger. I still always order the garlic fries but half the time I’m not sure what is going on with them. Sometimes it looks like the cook scoops up some leftover garlic from the last batch of fries and tosses it on fries that have been sitting for some time, causing the garlic and herbs to not stick to the fries. You eat here enough and you’ll know what I mean. Several times it has happened on only 1 of our 2 orders making it even more obvious when you have another batch done properly to compare them to. Their beer is still great and service is still 5 stars on a majority of the recent visits. As a side note, their Tightwad Tuesday specials bring many of the locals out during the week. We arrived a bit before 7pm, not thinking about it being Tuesday and this place was PACKED with about a 20 min wait. Be prepared.

I can’t believe it has taken me this long to attend one of Robert’s famous MBC events. Shame on me! Luckily the November 2015MBC was on a Sunday. Jackpot!!! I hope more of these breakfast get togethers are on Sundays(hint hint Robert). I have been been a patron of GBBC for many years now(in Sparks) and had no idea that the Reno location served breakfast. The prices are so incredibly fair that you can not turn down a weekend morning here. You get the same quality of food that you will get at other Reno breakfast hot spots for a much more reasonable price. Their mimosas are big and plentiful and half the cost of what you will pay elsewhere. The breakfast plates are big and loaded with lots of yummy deliciousness. The quality of the meat and the plates are top notch. The biscuits and gravy was delicious. The gravy was SO good. The servers were nice and helpful but the only thing that I didn’t like was that three of us at our table got our meals at the same time but our fourth seatmate didn’t get hers until the rest of us were almost done. That was kind of a bummer. They were great at seating our large group. Will definitely be back. Thank you Robert.

What a wonderful breakfast with great friends. I had no idea that great basin served breakfast. Leave it to robert to find another breakfast hidden gem. Deb and I arrived at 9:30 with quite a few other Unilocalers. The parking lot is quite big and can accommodate many cars. The dining are a is expansive with televisions everywhere. We were seated right away and our waitress took our drink orders. I ordered a ham, cheese and mushroom omelette with potatoes on the side. The omelette was good with lots of mushrooms and ham and cheese. We will definitely check this place out again for breakfast, the prices are fair and the service is fast

Have always been a fan of the original in Sparks so finally came in to this one. Early dinner and a beer. Smiling faces greatest us at the door and we took a clean booth. Walking through I always look at what others are eating and our waitress could explain what they were ! A Huge plus here… you can make your own sampler of beers! A detailed order sheet with explanation of the complex flavors comes with your selection. With the variety of the menu each of us got what our mouths wanted. The beer cheese soup is a must! Flavor packed and smooth. Fries were crispy and did not get soggy. Burger was typical… artichoke dip creamy and full of hearts. As it started to get busy the waitstaff forgot about the older tables with all of us having to request our bills and no dessert offered to any of the tables around us.

I really ought to come to these breakfast things more often! The best thing about them is that you usually end up in smaller groups and getting more one on one time with folks than at usual Unilocal events with much bigger crowds. It’s a great way to make new friends. ATMOSPHERE: You’d never really ever find me at a brewery unless it’s because I get dragged along by others. There, I said it. Looks like last time I was here was four years ago. FOOD: The last time I had great huevos rancheros was back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. So color me happy when I took a chance and ordered them here. My plate was the very last to arrive at our table(everybody else had nearly finished their meal by the time my dish arrived. Verdict? Surprisingly, I loved it. A little bit of kick to the salsa and the tortillas underneath were super crunchy still. I wanted OJ, but theirs is not fresh. PRICE: Very decent, most breakfast dishes were in the $ 8 range and came with either toast or home fries. SERVICE: Our servers were nice enough, but just the timing was off(our dishes all should have been served together; instead, mine came at least 10 minutes after everybody else got their food).

So I’ve driven by this place 100s of times. Always thought it was just a beer place and since I’m not a beer drinker, never gave it a second thought. Went for a UYE… monthly breakfast organized by Robert S. It was great… had a Bloody Mary with my breakfast. Enjoyed eating with Donna S & Kemp, and met Ben and his daughter as well. It’s always nice to mingle with other Unilocalers. Anyway the breakfast was done perfectly and I would definitely try it for lunch. Atmosphere is warm and friendly… even had a fire going in the fireplace. Thanks Robert S for bringing us all together in this great place to eat.

First of all, we didn’t realize that Great Basin serves breakfast. But isn’t that what Unilocal does, to let us know of cool things we otherwise have missed? Frankly, I’ve only been here once or twice, and I just remember it being all about the beer, not the food. It didn’t feel like a breakfast place to me. It still felt like a bar, with TVs, and various displays of beer-related prints and ads. I have nothing against beer, but it’s not my thing. This being an MBC event, I was optimistic about the food, and was looking forward to trying it. I had the Cinnamon Raisin French Toast($ 7.95), and a side of bacon($ 2.95). It was good. It had a lot of cinnamon flavor. It didn’t feel too heavy, being bread and all. The others at my table ordered an omelette, a burger, and the beernana pancakes. The omelette came with a side of country potatoes. They were soggy. The pancakes, according to my companions, were a little too malty. I personally didn’t taste it so I’m not sure what that means. It didn’t sound good. They were not wowed by it. What’s surprising though, was that the same pancakes were served on the kids’ menu. Not sure if that’s wise. Overall, the food was ok. Not awful, but not screamingly great either. The service, though, was another story. Slow. I believe they knew the Unilocal MBC group of about 20 people were coming, but they still appeared to be unprepared for us. It took us three tries to get our water, and we noticed that one table got their food around the time we’re finishing up ours. I hope there’s a good explanation for that. Thanks to Robert for organizing this brunch. The place might not have hit it out of the ballpark, but at least now we know what to expect from this place. But, as in other MBCs, I had the opportunity to meet new Unilocal friends — Ian and Tracy. I’m looking forward to next month’s!

This is my first time at this location. I was here with a very large group for a UYE(Unofficial Unilocal Event). Atmosphere — 4 stars. Nice for a former Mexican chain restaurant. It really speaks more of beer pub than hacienda. Lots of tables and booths with flexibility for large and small groups. Food — 3 stars. I had the Egg-A-Nator. An egg-in-the hole BLT with avocado and cheddar cheese. It was sort of meh. Not bad at all, just didn’t wow me. The Icky bread was tasty but a bit dry. The potatoes were good — a nice blend of red potatoes, green pepper, and onion. Coffee was marginal. Service — 5+ stars. This really pulled the rating to a solid 4 stars. We were with a very large group and Elizabeth, our server, took excellent care of us. She was patient while we made up our minds about what to eat, kept our drinks filled, brought us separate checks, and kept all in good order. I would probably come back and try something else. My table companion had Huevos Ranchero that looked amazing. She said it was delicious.

Robert sure does enjoy keeping everyone on their toes. He switched up MBC to a Sunday, and that was just fine. We saw some new faces that couldn’t normally make the Saturday time. Our crowd was so large this morning they gave us our own section– or they just thought we were a rowdy bunch. After all the mimosas were large and only $ 3. Robert made another great pick for club. The waitress started out wanting to separate the checks, and how smooth it went. Then drink orders and food. The food was plenty and prices even better the average full plate of food was $ 8. So much food though I won’t need to eat until tomorrow. Thanks so much each month to Robert for setting this up. I know I say that each month, but it is a little tricky and I understand it takes a little time making the arrangements. So again THANKS. I enjoy this UYE because each time I get to sit with a different group of Unilocalers and learn a little more about them. I knew everyone at our large table of 7, but haven’t ever really got to sit and talk for a couple of hours at a time. It’s always great fun to do so, and a bonus to have food and drinks thrown in. Keep in mind if you have never joined MBC, it is so family friendly. Today was the most kids I have seen, I think there were 7. All the kids looked like they had a great time too. Keep it up Robert

Food: 4.5 Stars Facility: 5 Stars Service: 3 Stars And unfortunately what I remember most about this visit is the service. It was not particularly busy tonight, the food seemed to come at a normal pace, but the overall attentiveness to anyone sitting outside was dismal. Not to mention they had 4 staffers sitting outside rolling silverware. All in all, the food was delicious. We had the artichoke dip appetizer, a BBQ burger, the chicken strips, and the macaroni pizza. Everyone enjoyed their dish but WOW, was the macaroni pizza the hit! Cheesy but sticky enough to stay together. The crust was a perfectly crisp, and the whole thing had some delicious bacon baked in! When we come back, we will definitely do that again. Not to say the service was unfriendly, because when we did get service they were pleasant. It just took forever even waiting to pay our bill.

Went to Great Basin for Lunch. My wife and I sat at the bar. Our bartender was very professional. Busy bar and she managed it well everything was clean and well organized. Full bar and of course the house brew. I had a pint of Nevada Gold and she had a glass of Fume Blanc which she has a slight obsession with. My beer was great, I’m a light beer guy by nature so this was right up my alley, would recommend this. To eat I had the Ruben with garlic fries. Ruben was good, ton of meat, could have used slightly more sauce. Fries were good. Good portion for me. The wife had a grilled cheese with avo. She liked hers. She couldn’t finish, ton o cheese! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a local brewery with great beer and food. We will be back. Oh ya the price was right for tight wod tues. 2.50 pints. Cheers!

Great Basin will always have a special place in my heart. I think the Sparks one it was one of the first restaurants I fell in love with when I moved to Reno. The Reno location has been open for a while and it’s still one of our go-to spots for good food and beer. The beer cheese soup is one of my all-time favorite soups. I’ve tried making this at home, I’ve tried it at other restaurants and just nothing compares! No matter what I’m getting for an entrée, what time of day it is, or what season it is, I will ALWAYS order a cup of this soup. The Cuban sandwich is another one of our favorites. Not totally traditional, but most of the right components are there and it comes out pretty tasty. The Great Basin Harvest and Pacific Crest Cobb salads have been on their menus forever, but I still love them. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve eaten anything terrible here. From the fish tacos, to sandwiches, to the pizzas, to their specials, I’ve never had a bad experience. I’m so happy that they’ve started bottling so many of their beers. But I also love that they rotate what they have on tap so often. Bitchin’ Berry and Icky will always be some of my favorites, but I’ve made myself try some of their other seasonal beers and some of the beers that have on nitro. Again, I’ve never had a bad experience with their beers. Man, just thinking about their food and beer makes me think that a return trip is in the very near future!

I was so happy to see this place open in trade for the former occupants. I love craft brews and the inventiveness of those in the trade, and that inventiveness is reflected in the food here. Being a home brewer myself the attraction should be pretty obvious, but I also produce home made sausage as they do here, so it is a double whammy. My most recent visit I finally ordered one of their pizzas and let me say this, I was not in any way disappointed. They graciously allowed me to play a bit with their recipe even, so i ordered the Greek pizza but I wanted it with pesto rather than olive oil, all totally doable as one of the other pizzas are served with pesto, in nay event it was amazing, delicious, and exactly what I wanted. Their crust was crispy and flavorful, the chicken was cooked perfectly, and the pesto with the feta cheese, offer the most intense and complex flavors that explode in your mouth. It is worth mentioning that Great Basin has two locations but the pizza is only made at this specific location and not available in Sparks. I have on previous trips enjoyed their black and bleu burger which is also amazing. Burger cooked perfectly every time and I love bleu cheese. The stew in a bread bowl is also great and so you know, they also make bread in house equally amazing and produced in house. Their shepherds pie is also great as are one of my favorite appetizers, the jalapeño egg rolls. There is something here for every appetite so bring yours, enjoy a cold one, and hang out for a bit. On a final quick note this is a great place for before, after or during shopping as they’re conveniently located to the mall and other popular shopping venues.
