Possibly the worst take out Chinese in Northern Virginia. The dinner portions are tiny for the price and the food is horribly bland. I kept going back because it was in a convenient location, and each time, the service was poor and the staff unfriendly. There are much better options in the Reston area than Hunan Café.

Food here is always pretty good, I haven’t tasted anything that was not palatable and we’ve been eating here since they had opened. Their noodle soup broth is glorious! I’ve never tasted that broth anywhere else. My all time favorites are Pork w/​dry bean curd, fried chicken wings, shrimp egg foo young, spicy mapo tofu and beef w/​broccoli! Try them and see for yourself!
Why 4 stars?.. well the ambiance is so so. Though its in Hunter Woods Plaza in Reston, I would think he atmosphere could’ve been better.

The food was good but the attitude on the person answering the phone was terrible. When I called to ask questions she was miserable. I asked and she is the daughter of the owner. When I called to make the order she was very blunt and 100% annoyed that I was calling. There are a lot of places to get food and if this place hates it’s customers I can go elsewhere. It’s sad because the food was not that bad but I guess I need to look elsewhere.
Anyway, if anyone can respond and recommend a good Chinese place in the Reston, Herndon, VA area that would be great. I don’t pay for attitude because personally I feel that if you complain they may do something weird to your order.

I never ever like Chinese restaurants in general but tonight I wasn’t feeling well and asked my family to order in. I have to say that the take out w delivery Hunan Café VII was pretty pretty good and really felt good in my tummy. We got the wonton soup, egg drop soup, the sweet/​sour chicken and Mongolian beef and it was all delicious. The soups were especially fantastic. This restaurant is at the Hunter Woods Plaza… so if you are looking for great delivery food, give it a try. I am hoping to keep this place as our first choice for delivery dinner. Egg rolls were terrible. Don’t order

Best chinese place in reston. The food it good depending on what you get. The best is probably the kung pao chicken and the lo-​mein. The curry lo-​mein is good too and the general tso chicken.
Tip: if youre buying only one thing bring cash because they dont take credit cards unless its over like 10 or 20 bucks

First off, horrible customer service. The lady who I spoke with made it apparant how enthusiastic she is about her job from the way she spoke to me. Very rude and disrespectful.
Also, the other day when I order food from here I found a little metal wire in my food… kind of looked like a little piece off a metal dish scrubber. I have given this place more chances than it deserves. It’s the closest chinese take out place to my house which made it the most convenient choice on days when I didn’t have the time to cook. However this was the last straw and I would rather take my business elsewhere even if it means travelling just a tad bit further. There are many better tasting chinese take-​out restaurants in the area that also know how to treat their customers with respect.

Food was pretty fast. Edible. That’s about it.
I ordered General Tsos Chicken — like the rest of everyone who allegedly likes Chinese food. I’m a little drunk, and super disappointed. It tastes like super bland orange chicken. Definitely not General Tsos. Definitely not worth $ 10. Maybe worth $ 3.

Just a heads up, but the chow mein at this place does not have noodles. I was disappointed to find this out, so it may be the reason why my rating is low.
I also ordered the «Two in a Dish» and the taste between the two are so identical that I had to really examine the dishes to see the difference.
I also ordered the crab rangoon and it filling tasted like sweetened cream cheese with no crab.
I’m going to continue the search for a regular chinese take-​out place.

Convenient cause it’s so close to home but I can’t help but complain about the staff. Every single time I go there, or call for delivery, they are so rude. They always have kids in flip flops running around IN THE KITCHEN! Totally inappropriate. The hunan east down the street in fox mill is a little more expensive but soooo much better.

Pro’s — convenient, ready in 5 minutes, $ 7 lunch specials (meal, rice, roll). tasty Garlic Chicken combo! healthy (ish) — they claim no MSG and fresh vegies /​meat
Con’s — staff not friendly, $ 10 min for credit card, fried rice isn’t fried rice — it’s hot white rice covered in soy sauce. it’s not bad, but it’s not fried rice so don’t be fooled
I’ll probably go back but I’m going to explore other Chinese options in the area in hopes of a better one

Beware while ordering. You order lunch special and the cashier without your knowledge charges you for dinner menu. This is totally illegal. I went back to the cashier, she said it’s her mistake and offers me can of Coke. I accepted it. When the food came, it wasn’t the food size I actually paid for. And the owner/​cashier comes and says its because since I got the coke, she gave me food in a small quantity. What a cheap place! And besides I was there with two of my friends. They said food quality and quantity was so bad. The food was filled with oil and turmeric. So we decided not to come back here again never and also would want this opportunity to let other Customer know, don’t expect anything good. Avoid this place. Customer service sucks!

The food is good, but customer service is the pits.
I’ve used this place fairly regularly since they opened, and have several favorite dishes. My kids are huge fans of the shrimp lo mein. The folks working there, especially taking orders over the phone have never been friendly, but today took the cake.
I ordered my dishes, they came, and one was wrong. I called them and they said they would come bring the correct dish out to me, so I could give them the other one back. (??? weird) So the delivery man comes, and then tells me I need to pay $ 3 because that is the difference in the dishes. Incredulous and hungry, I paid, then called the restaurant to let them know that when you make a mistake, you take the loss, you don’t make the customer pay. It’s just so cheap, and bad customer service. It’s how you lose long time customers.

Came by last night 5 minutes before close and it was pitch black. Looked like they had packed up and gone home hours before.
Tried again tonight. Tried to tell the tired and haggard woman looking behind the counter that they closed early the previous night. She acted as though she was totally oblivious to what I was saying. I repeated myself. I still decided to order because I am a masochist, and she barked at me I couldn’t get the lunch portion because it was dinner only. She barely could speak English but knew how to take my money. I said «cancel my order,» expelled a breath of exasperation, and went home.
Won’t ever try this place after enduring such a soggy and sour attitude.

Standard chinese fare, not terrible but nothing special. They did recently started doing hibachi style menu items too, I’m looking forward to trying that out sometime. I come here sometimes because its so convenient and they are quick with carryout orders. sometimes too quick. I asked for a quart of wonton soup and healthier fare steamed vegetables with chicken (supposed to be sauce on the side). But when I got home I was disappointed to see they gave me the regular chicken stir fried with vegetables in the salty brown sauce and only a pint of soup, not a quart. The mixed vegetables werent my favorites– it was celery, carrot, white mushroom, squash, bok choy, and 1 pea pod. I’d prefer it to have the water chesnuts, baby corn, bamboo shoots, asian mushrooms, and more peapods.

Reliable, consistent fast Chinese food for takeout. I go here for lunch when I have my Chinese takeout cravings. Another advantage of this place is that it’s south of the Dulles Toll Road. It always seems to take forever when I go to places north of the toll road for lunch.
Most of the dishes don’t feel super greasy and I wouldn’t agree with one of the reviewer’s assessment that the lack of MSG means it doesn’t taste good — I’ve had numerous dishes here and everything has had sufficient flavor.
