This store is now an annex of the Thriftway in Wemme. They no longer get copies of the morning newspaper. You now have to drive down to Zig Zag, Thriftway, Sandy or up to the grocery in Government Camp. It’s just not the same anymore. they lose two stars.

I would give this place zero stars if I could, especially after the incident we had there today. We are frequent hikers. We take our dogs into the woods and then on the way back we always stop here for snacks and beverages. Today after a long drive through windy roads, my dog was feeling car sick. So when we stopped at Mt. Hoods Foods, I asked my husband to walk her around a little bit for me because I really needed to use the restroom and then I would come back out and walk her while he went in to purchase our snacks. When I walked in an older male employee gave me a weird look and I instantly felt on edge. When I came out of their restroom he VERBALLYASSAULTED me about using their restroom and how the restroom was for customers only. I was so unnerved by his attack that I apologized and tried to leave and he continued to berate me as I went to exit. My husband was outside with my dogs and asked me what happened and I told him and my husband went in to talk to him. The employee gave my husband attitude and accused us of lying. He was verbally combative with my husband, giving him immense attitude. We ALWAYS stop at this store on our way back home from hiking to get snacks. We were frequent customers. NOTANYMORE. We will not be back and I will make sure I tell everyone I know not to stop here. That was completely unacceptable to treat a frequent customer like this. He verbally assaulted me over using their bathroom. Seriously. There are no signs anywhere that say the bathroom is for customers only, even then we WERE customers and frequent ones at that. Additionally, I would like to add that they owe us $ 6 for a parking pass they made us buy out of season that we didn’t need on our first visit to the store. I previously let it go because on that occasion the girl was so nice to us. DONOTSHOPHERE!!! Well, you can if you want shitty employees to yell at you for no reason.

This place is pretty awesome! They apparently went through a recent renovation, and it’s very«roomy», and doesn’t feel cluttered. The food selection is great for the weekend traveler, someone staying for a few nights, or grabbing some supplies. It’s no Fred Meyer or anything, which it’s not trying to be; simple grocery store, great selection, incredibly friendly staff, and reasonable prices. Definitely my one stop on my way to ‘Hood.

They didn’t have what we needed — produce. They have like potatoes and onions. That’s about it. But they do have random, interesting food items. Small wine selection, but I got a great bottle of wine for a decent price. And they have Juanitas — save! Friendly staff. Clean.

So, the store was just revamped, so they carry a lot more than they did when I first got here — not long ago. Yes, products are a bit pricey but I find that about most places in the Mt. Hood area. The staff is wicked nice, they’re open later than any other store around(midnight), and I go in every morning for a cup of coffee, and many nights for beer or wine.

Based entirely on my experience buying tire chains here. The cashier was very helpful offering a demonstration of installation on their model tire in the store. The chains cost $ 70 and I didn’t know if they were gouging me since I was already on the mountain. I got home and checked. The best price for the same chains online was $ 58. I don’t consider that a huge price jump.

They are more reasonably priced on some of the grab it-I forgot it, items. They have a pretty decent set up for the kind of food you get on a road trip, like corn dogs and hot dogs and the mystery pickled eggs in a jar. They are nice people who work there and are helpful. They stay open later than Thriftway too. Coming to this area, you know you are in a tourist zone, whether you live here or not. To the reviewer who asked, who rents VHS tapes? You might be surprised that the video rental place up here still carries them, as well. There are some old school mountain people who still use their VCRs that can’t get tv reception up here. It is a time warp in some aspects living up here, things happen here that don’t happen in the city and having a place that stays open as late as this place is great.

Two words: Tourist trap. All though the people that work here are very nice and it is conveniently located right on Highway 26, that is about as good as it gets for this wannabe grocery store. If you are down for getting a quick beer, junk food, nasty @$$ produce, and freezer burnt frozen meat this is the place for you. We spent over 100 bucks to feed just 3 of us, so much for the effort of saving money by not eating out. And who the heck carries VHS tapes rentals? It’s 2009! If you are staying in Welches, Rhododendron, or Government Camp area then our recommendation is for you to go shopping at a real grocery store Hoodland Thriftway( ) which is only couple blocks away.
