Giving a high rating here because the food was really good. The service wasn’t great though, but I think the food is definitely worth it.

My husband and I used to live nearby to HFs years ago and went on a few occasions and always enjoyed our food. We’ve moved since but I now pass by it on my way to work and wanted to see if we would still enjoy ourselves there. Fast forward to last night. We drive to HFs from north Garland. We were so excited to go back to an old haunt, especially since we hadn’t eaten all day. The bean and cheese nachos didn’t disappoint, and the mojito was good, albeit a bit too sweet. I asked our waitress if I could have combo fajitas, half chicken and half shrimp. I was told no, I must choose one or the other. Ummm, ok, I’ll comply. I chose the chicken and ordered a cup of queso. The fajitas were just ok and the queso was uneventful. My husband ordered a bowl of chicken tortilla soup and the carne asada. The soup was terrible! I’m not sure what type of meat was used in the soup, but if it was chicken, that’s one scary bird. The meat looked like pork. My husband took two bites and set it aside. His report of the steak was not much better. Bland and tough. The only dish that tasted good was my son’s hard taco plate. We were very disappointed. Had our taste buds matured over the years or has HFs gone downhill? The answer might be a little of both, but sadly we won’t be going back. There are just too many other options for tex mex that are more flavorful and exiting.

Great food! The owner, Mario, is super friendly and personable to all customers. You can order anything you want at Holy Frijoles, even a cheese burger, and it will be served to you with a smile.

Ok seriously this place is a hidden gem! The exterior of this restaurant is deceiving. I was a bit hesitant to go in but had heard a lot of great things about it. My husband and I finally decided to try this place out and OHEMMGEE… so freakin delicious. The drinks are hardcore and for a ridiculously cheap price. The food as well. Great food on the cheap! I had the a chalupa and a sour cream enchilada. Really really good as well as the rice and beans. This place is authentic and their customer service is on point! I think it helps when you speak Spanish but the servers really try to make guests feel welcomed. Holy frijoles is definitely our new go to spot for Mexican food!

Trips to Dallas area: 1 so far. Visits to Holy Frijoles: 3 in 24 hours. 2 of those were takeout. By the third time even the very friendly guy at the counter gave me a puzzled look(«Hey, weren’t you in here 7 hours ago?»). But I *was* on a business trip, which means I don’t mess around when I find delicious Tex-Mex.

We ate here over 5 years ago and remembered it much more fondly than it was today. Owner dismissively nodded at us when we walked in and told us to seat ourselves. Not even a smile. We waited forever for chips/salsa which were at best mediocre. Very disappointed in food. Reminded me of tv dinner enchiladas, and my husband’s tacos al carbon had no flavor. Also, each of my children had a soda and they charged 2.00 for a CAN. To be honest, I would have rather had taco bueno. Clearly there are alot of great reviews on here for this place so maybe it was just a rough night for them…

We read about this Mexican restaurant on Trip Advisor and based upon the excellent ratings we headed their for dinner today. The restaurant is located in a free standing shopping center that has probably seen better days. Don’t let that discourage you though from trying out this place. Arrived early before too many customers arrive. Parking right out front. Greeted by two employees who promptly seated us and took our drink order. We noticed week days specials on a board with some really low prices. The waiter brought us warm chips, salsa and a bean dip. Ordered the beef enchiladas as did one of the others in the party with the third ordered chicken enchiladas. Each was served in a very hot plate along with beans, rice and a small salad. The food was delicious and I can see what the restaurant is getting highly rated reviews. I ordered iced tea and this place serves real iced tea with a deep brown color and deep taste of tea. Our waiter was good and chatted with us after the learned this was out first visit to the restaurant. The restaurant sets perhaps 50 people. There is a full bar as you enter the restaurant. The week day lunch prices are really great plus there is a weekday dinner special with prices that must be among the cheapest in the entire neighborhood. Couple that with good food and I can see what there are so many high ratings for this restaurant.

Hello friends, I went to play bingo in the same shopping Village and came across this restaurant. Very authentic and cute place with soft latin music playing. I felt I was in San Antonio. Love their black beans second to Gloria’s which is my all time favorite. I ordered the shredded chicken nachos. The chicken taste perfect. Yum! I recommend y’all to come here.

Margaritas are good, chips and salsa are good, wait staff friendly, quesadillas are good — Quaint little restaurant but just what you’re looking for — Not too crowded and close. We’ve always been happy.

Awesome mexican food. I had the chimichanga and my boyfriend had the burrito dinner. Our plates were clean by the time we were done hahah. The chips and salsa are delicious! The bean dip is the best and the salsa is homemade. Highly recommend this place

Came here with my family to celebrate my sister buying a house in Richardson. In a good location if you are in the Richardson/North Dallas area, but a little hard to find due to being in an awkward location in a strip mall. Very prompt, professional wait staff. We came in the wrong door but they were nice and immediately got us a table. Atmosphere is normal, nothing special. Food is decent, not bad not outstanding. Good selection of seafood tex mex dishes. But again nothing special. I got shrimp enchiladas, which was fine, it was a very simple enchalada with shrimp stuffed in it with sides of refried beans and rice. 3 stars– one of the countless not great but serviceable tex mex places in DFW.

We went here for a birthday dinner. I called beforehand to see if they took reservations. He said he didn’t normally, but that he could hold a table for our party of 8. I arrived about 10 minutes early and the table was already set up for us! Thumbs up. The food itself was pretty standard Tex-mex. Their salsa was mild. The chips were a little stale. I got the 3 enchilada plate and it was good, but nothing special. Service was okay. They didn’t give us enough menus. And one person in our party had to wait until the rest of us were halfway through our meals until his came out. The manager, I’m assuming, did give our table some free shots, but he only gave us 4. So… half thank you? A decent experience, but I probably won’t be back.
