Down home eats with a side of some pretty decent mimosas I have to say… at $ 3 a pop on a Sunday early afternoon you simply cannot go wrong. If you’re doing the breakfast buffet do yourself a favor and go as early as possible. As the day goes on the buffet starts looking a little less appetizing. We arrived after 12:30 and I decided to order off of the menu instead. The pot roast is pretty good… catfish looked very fresh and delicious and the side of green beans and mac and cheese hit the spot. Oh and the banana pudding with the graham cracker crumbles… yes yes! Overall I was pleased with the food, not over the moon impressed but I definitely wouldn’t mind returning. It’s very family friendly and they even have a play area for the kiddos.

Breakfast Buffet rules was confusing. There was a lunch buffet right next to the breakfast buffet. Most of the food looked pre made. Gravy and sausage links were luke warm. Decorations were out of a 25 year old chain family restaurant. Maybe it works for their market. Staff was friendly.

If I had to pick only one place to eat for the rest of my life, it would be here. Everything is made fresh, nothing is boil-in-bag or boxed. Darrien is a very charismatic and attentive server, as for a table in his section.

The food is good but service is horrible. I called to place an order but was told they were too busy to take my order and asked that I call back later. I’ve never experienced that before so I’ll be taking my business elsewhere from now on. The person wasn’t concerned either when I expressed my disbelief. Also the person was a manager. So sad.

I absolutely love this place! Me and my boyfriend have gone twice in the past two days! It’s great home cooking meals and is so fresh and flavorful. The homemade tortilla soup is so amazing, and I have never even really liked tortilla soup but my boyfriend had it and I tried it and now I’m obsessed with it. The pot roast with mashed potatoes and brown gravy is my favorite and the string beans of course!!! So amazing I will be back again and again :)

I was really impressed by the food here. I had a burger, and coming from a sort of burger snob, i can say you won’t be disappointed. The patties were thick and juicy. They had Revolver Blood and Honey which is my favorite. And seriously, the coconut cream pie was literally the best I’ve ever had.

Great service. Food was delicious. I had the pot roast, which was super good. Love their mashed potatoes too. Everything tastes homemade and the prices were very reasonable. Will definitely be back!

I’ve lived in Dallas for 2 ½ years and sadly this was the worst food I’ve had in the city. Everything tasted like it came from a frozen box. I ordered the open pot roast sandwich which was served with mashed potatoes that were watery and tasted instant. The actual roast was ok. My MIL had the chicken fried steak which she said tasted like it came from a freezer box.

My husband and I visited tonight as we are staying in the area from out of town. We sat in Alison’s(sp?) section who I highly recommend you request. She answered several of our questions and was very warm and friendly. The food was spot on. I had pot roast, black-eyed peas, and okra. My husband had meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and greens. It was all delicious and I would definitely recommend! We will need back any time we come back to Richardson.

The food was sub-par. I would describe it as a «comfort food» diner that also has wine and beer. Our waitress was terribly rude to all the members of our party. She didnt want to be there from the start. She rushed everyone and constantly complained. We were there to visit with family we hadn’t seen in a long time and we were all bothered by our waitress. Skip this place and go somewhere more friendly.

I met a friend here for lunch today. My first visit. Southern comfort food at its best in Richardson! I ordered the meatloaf with mac-n-cheese and fried okra. Hey! It’s a zero calorie day! The meatload was moist and the red sauce was light and flavorful. The mac-n-cheese was too die for! Creamy and good quality cheese! The fried okra was actually seasoned and not too well done. The server also brought us out some cornbread which taste like dessert! I will definitely be back on a Friday to try the chicken and dumplings!

I went for Sunday breakfast buffet. The food tasted gross and watered down. Made me want to vomit. The only thing I could tolerate to eat was the bread. The waiter brought up dessert, I asked on 3 different occasions what desserts they had the waiter ignored me and did not answer me. He ended up walking away. I will never return there!

Unfortunately, this place has become hit or miss. The food just isn’t consistent. Like they throw an amateur in the kitchen every once in a while. This is after eating dinner on a Sunday. Their so-called specialty Chicken Fried Steak — which used to be the best around — tasted old, like inferior meat. Much of the sides were not hot as they should have been. Service, which is usually top notch, was not up to par either. One other thing — if you’re too cheap to furnish real butter — you’re insulting your clients. Instead of spending $.02 on your customer you try to poison them with margarine? One of the worst things you can put in your body? If that’s the case — wonder what they’re working with in the kitchen? May go back and try a lunch to see if it holds up to old standards. But, definitely not on the top of the list anymore. And, yes — I hate that I had to write this. But, standards are standards.

This is the restaurant where you can get good home cooking and tonight great service. Quick tip about seating. Ask to be seated on the right side as you enter otherwise you may find yourself in the middle of a family with lots of kids. There is a play area on the left side. The right side is quieter and willa a, ow you to enjoy your dinner. There are several items on the menu and daily specials change from time to time. There is a monthly calendar at the door so as you depart pick one of those up to see what your next dining night might be. We had an excellent waitress that checked on us serval times. I ordered the chicken fried steak, with sliced tomatoes and greens. My spouse had the pan fried chicken breast with squash and greens. Both had rolls and cornbread. The cornbread was very good. The chicken fried steak was covered with white gravy and my spouse had her gracy on the side. Meals are around $ 9.99.There is a full service bar located in the middle of the restaurant if that should be your choosing. Parking in private lot out front.

The location and atmosphere are nothing to be excited about, but I like this place. They have a little play room for the kids to keep them busy before your food comes. The food is actually really good. It is similar to Cracker Barrel with the occasional brunch buffet.

This is a good old place to eat! It’s good American food, kind of like the black eyed pea, but a little better atmosphere! They just moved to the location where they are a couple of years ago and it is always nice and clean and is up-to-date. It is fairly big but it doesn’t look like it from the outside. Most entrées are worth eating, but I stick with the meatloaf!

Their Chicken fried Steak is to die for! Everything tastes home made, even the yellow squash was awesome. Cornbread is(obviously) a must. I’ve also had their peach cobbler and it’s great. We went here for my cousins birthday and everyone was very nice and accommodating. Props to the young blonde girl who waited on our party of 21 by herself! Great experience, will definitely be coming back.

String bean is straight up American diner but with alcohol. Seriously nothing on the menu is non American(except quesadillas) but everything is classic American. From CFS to meatloaf they have a variety of American food. As soon as I walk in I see the bar smack dab in the middle. The seats aren’t rusty and old but the silverware were. Kinda dirty to say but I did see some faded rust and smudges. As for the food I had tequila lime chicken quesadillas… didn’t want something heavy. I got the half order plus mashed potatoes. My total bill was under $ 8 plus tip. The quesadillas had chicken and a bunch of cheese. The food wasn’t bad but I can actually make this at home. It comes with salsa but it wasn’t spicy just extra mild. I understand this is a local favorite but I think that’s for senior citizens, which was 90 percent of the guest here. As for me I would rather go to Luby’s which isn’t too far from this place. The String Bean, check.

About 15 years ago, my grandparents would take us here for lunch. It was full of old people, they had cheesy commercials, and it didn’t seem that up to date, so I never went again. Sometime over the last 15 years, they moved to a little hole in the wall off Coit/Campbell. I’ve been on a low carb diet, and kinda ran out of places to eat. Turns out the String Bean has a pretty affordable menu and lots of great options of diets. My wife had to talk me into giving it a shot(my 15 year old opinion still held strong), but we went in. This place is huge! It looks like the tiniest restaurant on the outside. Not only that, it felt very ‘homey’ and had a pretty good crowd at 8pm on a weekday. They have a big bar, and lots of seating. I could see myself coming here just to hangout and watch a game on TV, or maybe play a board game with friends. Out waiter was fantastic — I want to get that out of the way. Drinks were topped off, he was very polite, and seemed to enjoy his job. We both ordered the flat-iron steak, and it was pretty tasty. Especially considering it was only about $ 12 and came with 2 sides of veggies. Didn’t get to try any desserts, although the options sounded pretty good. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a great meal without breaking the bank. This will probably work it’s way into my dining rotation, maybe 2 – 3 times a month. I let old perceptions get in my way for 15 years when I could have been having a good time at the String Bean. I feel like maybe they should work on their marketing so more people come inside and get won over. Either way, you should definitely give this a shot.
