One of my absolutely favorite spots in RVA… sadly closed. Not only did they have super fresh ingredients but they cooked everything right there for you… endless options for what you get. It is sad they closed down before Willow Lawn was fully renoved to its current glory… it would do well so well if it had lasted. Again, great spot and i am sad that it is gone.

I’ve only eaten at Graywolf Grill ages ago, and for good reason. Once you get past the novelty of seeing your food cooked on a big grilltop with large sticks, you realize you should have gone somewhere else. So it’s an all you can eat place with a big bar of meats, vegetables and spices. The price was a flat $ 16 back in the day when I ate there. Too expensive in my opinion. To eat, you choose a recipe and fill up a bowl with ingredients and they cook it up for you on the grill. Or if you are inspired, pick out your own ingredients to make some sort of flashy combo and see how it turns out. But this option is precisely the problem. If you choose a stock recipe, then you might as well have just ordered it from a menu like normal restaurants. In fact, you are doing the work for the cooks. Maybe if you paid a little more cash, they might let you cook it yourself! The other option is to make up your own recipe, but then one might forget that recipes come about by trial and error… lots of it. The chances of making something good really aren’t great unless you go there often enough to perfect something. At that point, its time to fill out an application and get a job there. I go to a restaurant because the chefs are better cooks than I am and they do things with food that is well worth my money. There are folks that love the place, but I have no problem at all panning it! In fact, it’s my duty to bring that perfect score down for a restuarant that doesn’t deserve it.

I loved the Graywolf Grill when I lived in Richmond. Who doesn’t love Mongolian BBQ?

Oh Graywolf how I miss thee. Seriously, i’m not joking! This is hands down the best mongolion bbq I have ever ate. Wide selection of meats and veggies and spices and oils, and you get to watch the talented cooks prepare it all in front of you on a huge round stone grill. I have taken friends from out of town there and they lament this place as well. If you’re in Richmond go eat here!
