I went out for lunch with a co-worker and they suggested J Kogi to me. I was not sure what to think of this food cart but I’m always interested in trying new foods so I went for it. Their bowls are $ 5.00 and very filling so you get your moneys worth. I got white rice at the bottom, all the veggie toppings(that include kimchi, pickled white radish, red cabbage, soy bean sprouts, carrots and cucumbers) and Dak Tori chicken which is dark pieces of chicken versus the Katsu Chicken which is white chicken breast meat but fried. I was not in the mood for fried chicken(I know ugh right?) so I went with the Dak Tori chicken. The folks working at the cart recommended I get the«No Spicy, No Cry»(Red Pepper Hot Sauce) and Fwa(Sweet Honey Mayo) to top off my meal. What a combo! Great flavor and not too spicy or overpowering. This is a great value for lunch and the food is good quality and good portion size. Its just right and not too much or too little. Will be frequenting this cart, especially when the weather gets even warmer!

As a Korean, I have high expectations of Korean food but JKogi is AMAZING. I have tried a few Korean restaurants in Midlothian but JKogi, by far, is the tastiest. I live in downtown Richmond so I have visited JKogi’s food cart a few times. I absolutely love their katsu chicken. If you want a good combo suggestion, I usually order white rice as base, katsu chicken, all vegetable toppings except purple cabbage(I’m not particularly fond of it), and the spicy Korean sauce(I believe it’s called no cry sauce.) The price per bowl is $ 5 at the food cart and though it is much smaller than the bowl they have at the actual restaurant, it usually fills me up. They also have delicious Korean drinks and sodas for purchase as well. They accept credit/debit cards at the cart so that is a huge plus. I think they have food carts set up in multiple places throughout Richmond. From what I’ve seen, there is one on VCU campus on W Main Street, one near the Capitol building, and one near the VCU/MCV hospital. Also, I’ve eaten in their actual restaurant multiple times and the place itself is extremely clean and well maintained. And of course, the rice bowls are always delicious. I’m so glad that there’s finally a decent Korean food restaurant in Richmond!

So, the food is still good, but I want to gripe about the packaging, in hopes that they’ll see this and fix it. When this cart first opened, they had these nice round plastic bowls with a detachable lid. For a while now, they’ve switched to these rectangular cardboard boxes with flaps that fold over to form a lid, I assume because they’re cheaper. These cardboard boxes suck because the flaps are constantly in the way, and food and sauce gets stuck to the flaps and then gets all over your hands and utensils. Go back to the plastic bowls, JKOGI!

First let me just say, the food is great. I started going to the cart when I first noticed it because I’m not an idiot and know Korean food is amazing. The first few bowls I got were great! Tried everything, super delicious and for only $ 5, you couldn’t beat it. Then it all went down hill. The crew changed up, added .75 to the price(no big deal, would happily pay that for some good lunch) and the portion sizes became awful. The last time I went there I more or less got a box of white rice, a small spoonful of kimchi(why would you need any other veggies??) with two dry chicken strips. The cart is great when they portion out correctly but the declining consistency of the food pushed me away.

You really cannot ask anything more from a street cart. The food from this cart was stupendously good. There was a dazzling array of both meat and veggies. and everything was delicious in its own right even before it synergized with all oft he other flavors. For example as an alternative to rice you can get your meal on a bed of cabbage which may sounds a little drab/bland. But even the cabbage delicious all on its own without needing to borrow flavoring from the rest of the food ensemble. The same is true for other potentially bland food elements such as the sprouts. They are a well seasoned and delicious addition to the bowl instead of just being bland nutritious addition. And the elements that you would expect to pop, just as the kimchi and the flavored chicken pop plenty as well. All in all you really can’t go wrong with this truck. Everything they make is delicious, the prices are great for the amount of food you get(by food truck standards). Plus the food is healthy/veggie friendly. Healthy, delicious, cheap. What more could you ask for?

I love this cart! Great quality and value for the $ 5 price. My go-to combo is the Bulgogi rib eye($ 1 extra but well worth it) with sticky rice, all the veggies, and the tangy BBQ sauce. It’s also great with the mixed scallion salad.

Needless to say from growing up in the streets of Seoul I can speak w authenticity in regards to Korean BBQ. This food cart is real as it gets. I close my eyes and I am in Seoul :) try it if your into Seoul food. Prices are reasonable. They take credit card also(square) and cash. You will not be disappointed.

Excited to find Korean food on the street in Richmond, I gave them a try today at lunchtime. They assemble«bowls» from a list of ingredients. Koreans call this Bibimbop — but J Kogi’s approach is more American than Korean. For one thing, they don’t really arrange the ingredients, instead everything is too wet & they just kind of slop it into a paper container. My bacon rice was wet, and the radishes were a mass of limp noodle-like shreds and the pork belly was also flaccid and dowsed with sauce. I was hoping for grilled pork belly(Samgyeopsal). Fresher, crisper & dryer ingredients would have made this taste better. And some standard gochujang sauce would have been preferable to their«hot sauce». Next time I’ll keep it simple with some white rice, bulgogi & kimchi.

Mmmm, a delicious addition to the conglomerate of food trucks in the downtown area, J. Kogi may just be my new favorite! For a flat $ 5, which can be paid by credit card, one can follow a korean bowl down a few paths. First choose: A base(kimchi fried rice, white rice, or scallion salad) As many veggies that will fill up your heart and stomach(including kimchi) A protein A sauce Extra $ 1 for kimchi bacon fried rice or bulgogi ribeye. I’ve been here twice. My first bowl: White rice, all veggies, daktori chicken, and no spicy, no cry sauce(red pepper). 4⁄5 While delicious I would have preferred it to have a little more kick in the spice department. It was also served a little less than warm, but the portion size is great for $ 5. My second bowl: Scallion salad, bulgogi ribeye, all veggies, and no spicy, no cry sauce. 5⁄5 This nailed it! The bulgogi ribeye is definitely the protein to get here, it was delicious! That, paired with the no spicy no cry sauce, brings all the veggies into an amazingly flavorful experience. The scallion salad works as a great option for those wanting to try a new twist on the usual korean bulgogi bowl. The entire meal was so good that I didn’t mind its semi-warm temperature. This is a food truck I will definitely be visiting yet again.

J Kogi is delish! My friend & I ventured out from our usual food truck mainstays to try Kogi today. We loved it! I had the salad tofu with the FWA sauce. The FWA was similar to French salad dressing but went great with the tofu & kimchi. My friend had the bacon fried rice with vegs & pork belly. She went for the katsu sauce. Spicy and amazing. Super cheap and so good! Def recommend them for lunch.
