Small place with nothing fancy about it but the sushi was fresh. The guy making the sushi was friendly and helpful. Would go back when in the area!

So this review is about the sushi making and sake tasting class but the event was too good not to share and I will definitely be back to the restaurant after this experience! Groupon had a deal for a sushi making class and sake tasting for 2 people or 4 people we got the 2 person deal as a gift and we finally took advantage of it last night. We had no idea what to expect, but from the moment you walk through the door the Sushi Chef — Kevin — makes you feel welcome, invited, and starts cracking jokes to make you very comfortable. We were with a group of 8 other people and by the end of it we were all laughing and having a good time. We made two different rolls as part of the class, a California roll and a Spicy Tuna roll — Kevin starts with a little bit of history about the restaurant, himself, and some education on sushi — I had no idea I would be learning SOMUCH in this class. He then step by step shows you how to make each roll, he is GOOD and he made it look so easy(he also doesn’t make you feel bad about how terrible your sushi looks compared to his!) He then cuts it up, plates it and finally you can eat the sushi you made. It’s delicious! And it’s definitely more delicious because you make it on your own. While were eating our sushi Kevin is giving us information on the history of sushi, different types of sushi, and things that are offensive to people in Japan — did you know your not supposed to put wasabi in your soy sauce, it’s offensive? You are not supposed to turn down sake — ever! Or that rubbing your chopsticks together is saying that the restaurant is beneath you?! We then did the sake tasting, we tried 3 different sakes — 3VERY different sakes! All very unique and interesting. We then ended the night with a sake bomb which I had never done before! You then are allowed to eat, drink, and hang out after the class is over. Oh I forgot to mention that they close the restaurant for the class and there is party music playing in the background which makes the event that much more fun, since we were all laughing way too loud and having a great time! The event was an absolute blast, I highly recommend if you ever see this Groupon to check it out. The restaurant is small and clean, has seating and a bar section. Kevin is so incredibly nice and we will be back to see him again for sure!

THEBESTSUSHIWEHAVEEVERHAD! Came in here with my sister and mom while shopping at Stony Point mall. We have been to many sushi restaurants all across the country(Chicago, New York, San Fran, LA… etc) and we all agreed that this was probably the best sushi we have ever eaten. FRESHFRESHFRESH ingredients and amazing service. Do yourself a favor and EATHERE! Thanks for a great experience Kobe Sushi! ;)

Just had an excellent meal there! All of the rolls we had were amazing, and we had about twelve different ones. You should definitely try the Shockoe Slip Roll. Our waiter was excellent and very friendly. His server called off, so he was doing it all and did an amazing job.

I remember this place being decent, but expensive. I have not gone back in a while since the price is too high for what you get. I don’t remember it being too special either, and I remember always leaving hungry. Always. I have not been back in about a year, I am not even sure if it’s still open. If they are, I would be impressed since the place was always empty when I went. I remember getting the protein roll for $ 9 for the smallest 5 pieces of my life. Overall with the high price and barely there sushi, I don’t see how this is worth it.

Came here for lunch the other weekend on rainy, cold Sunday afternoon. We were the only people inside the place so it made it quite cozy… it also made me second guess coming inside but I love sushi and alas, there were no other places for sushi at the mall. The gentleman working was the host, chef, cashier, and busboy. He was very nice, let us choose any table in the house, gave us our time, and made delicious sushi for us. He was great and I just felt bad the place wasn’t busier. I have a feeling that business probably picks up during the week for all them business folks. So what I didn’t like… When I walked in, the entire place smelled like cleaner used to clean a bathroom. So essentially, I felt like I was eating in a bathroom. Yes, it was clean but I just didn’t like the thought of bathroom cleaner while I’m eating sushi. Something just doesn’t add up. Overall, the sushi and the smell force me to give only 3 stars. The sushi was well worth it but the smell will keep me from coming back. Take care & savor it up!

We stumbled into Kobe Sushi while walking the mall. My friend and i have been looking for a sushi place ever since we got here. The menu wasn’t bad and not at all overpriced! Tried some of their specials and it was delicious. We were both full by time we finished our meal. The service was a bit slow but there were only two I saw working. Great place, would highly recommend this place to my friends out there.

I’m so happy Stony Point finally got a sushi place! The fact that it’s owned and operated by the same people who bring RVA Kobe Sushi and Habachi is just absolutely perfect! I went here the other day(on that beautiful Saturday) with my dog and fiancé and we absolutely loved it. The service was quick, prices were great, and the sushi was made wonderfully — definitely the same quality we RVA’ers have come to expect from Kobe(the restaurant). We both ordered the Sushi and Sashimi lunch combo and were very happy with the meal. It came with miso soup and the dish was wonderfully presented. I’ll definitely be back next time I need a sushi fix and don’t want to drive downtown to get it.

A sushi spot at Stony Point? yep, you heard right. This is a spinoff(and super casual, at that), of the downtown Kobe location. It seems like a super smart move, since many of the Stony Point shoppers are apt to be sushi lovers as well. I popped in on a whim with a friend today for lunch. She was interested in Mexican, but as soon as I mentioned sush, she changed her tune. I mean, who doesn’t love fresh, raw salmon? I do, at least. The spot is your typical mall food location, with seating available, but in a super casual atmosphere. It’s tiny, but the seafood is fresh… which is really the most important thing when it comes to sush, right? Now I don’t go to Stony Point to eat, but I definitely know many people who make a day of shopping at this mall. So if you’re one of them and you’re into fresh, delicious, raw fish, then I recommend hitting up Kobe for a bite.

The tag line for this rating has it right. just«Meh». We hit this place up for dinner because another restaurant was too busy and we had a movie to catch. We both ordered the sushi dinner with 6 pieces of nigiri, a california roll, and miso for $ 16. Seriously way too over priced for the quality of prodcut you get. its comparable to what you get at the local grocery store. I also got the kani su salad for an appetizer which was bland. Next time I’ll spend an additional few bucks to get some quailty sushi.

Best fast sushi! They have the same quality ingredients as the larger downtown location. Kevin and John(the chef) were very courteous and hospitable. They offered samples of rolls and drinks. I can now enjoy my favorite sushi restaurant in Stony Point!
