This has been my families go to sub and gyro spot for 20+ years. Great food, quick prep time and leaves you coming back for more!

I love this place. Been here about 5 times now with friends and family to try. Everybody likes it. I have had the gyro on pita, gyro in sub roll, cheese steak and onion rings. All great, large enough that I share with my friend. I have eaten a whole cheese steak and been very full. My buddy from Philly loved his cheese steak and the bread. His criticism was that the steak had a seasoning to it. I almost smacked him to have any criticism of this wonderful sandwich. He agrees Sub Central is great. My brother who could eat an entire pork roast for dinner loved his cheese steak and felt one with an order of onion rings was filling enough. Rings were great, freshly fried and crispy with nice big onions inside. Wish it was closer to my house. Looking forward to trying some of the other sandwiches. Gyros and cheese steaks are very good and I expect everything else is too. You cannot go wrong trying it once to see if it is your style.

I’ve lived in Richmond for 42 years and this is by far the best cheesesteak I’ve had in Richmond. I’ve been past this little shop countless times but never stopped in. So this week I’ve been over this side of town in a training class and based on their other reviews here on Unilocal,I figured I would try it out. I’m very glad I did. They have a pretty good sized menu for a small sandwich shop including salads and a few spaghetti dishes. I overhead the owner telling another customer that his father opened up the place about 36 years ago and it has been family owned since then. I ordered the cheesesteak and added fried onions, peppers and mushrooms. There was only one size and it was huge. The star of the show was the steak and there was plenty of it. The steak was chopped fine and very tender and mixed into it was the onions, peppers and mushrooms. The sub also included lettuce, mayo, onion and cheese but only a small amount as to not overwhelm the steak. The sub roll was lightly toasted and warm but still soft on the outside and paired nicely with the ingredients inside. Given the size of the sub, I did not order any sides and I’m glad I didn’t. I couldn’t finish the sub and ended up taking a little less then half home. My only small issue with the place was the drink selection. I’m not a Diet Coke person and the only other non-sweet drink option was water. They had tea but it was sweet(on a side note, I did try the tea to confirm it was sweet, and for sweet tea, it was quite delicious. Fresh and VERY sweet) I’m anxious to try the gyro as it looked really good, but that will have to wait until next time.

Best subs in Richmond! Love steak and cheese all the way or turkey toasted or the grilled chicken sub all the way! French fries are always fresh and hot. They have chicken wings with a kick to them that are so good and definitely try the gyro! My only problem is trying to decide what to eat. Clean fast fresh and friendly is what this place is about!

First visit and wife and I ordered Gyro w/feta(per a former Unilocal reviewer’s recommendation), Cheesesteak(on point but add peppers and mushrooms if that’s your jive), and onion rings. All were delish! Next visit would probably only order one to split — they don’t joke when they say ‘large sub’ on the signs!

Where to begin! I have been driving down midlothian for almost 10 years, and never have I payed attention to this place. My aunt has been coming here for a while, she introduced me to their delicious, mouth watering, juicy, decadent, and did I mention delicious chicken philly with extra onions writing about it is making my mouth water. It truly is great, the people are nice, and friendly. I also ordered fries, and onion rings. OMG the onion rings are freaking the bomb. I swear its like eating pancake battered onion rings, they were so so soooo delicious. I feel like all i am saying is delicious, delicious, delicious. THEREARENOOTHERWORDSTODESCRIBEIT. I swear I am so not stuck up at all. When my aunt and I first arrived i was like«ummm really, i am starving and you decided to take me here». Now i am hooked, seriously do not let the location or the way it looks from the outside fool you. They are so clean inside, before i order food i always go to the bathrooms to see if owners keep things clean. They are super duper clean(talking about the ladies room, idk about mens). I really recommend them. My only complaint is there is no unsweetened iced tea, other than that it was fantastic. Highly recommend this place.

I’ve been looking for a good gyro since 5-star went out of business; there aren’t many good ones in Richmond. Sub Central’s was pretty darn good, and it was ridiculously big. The store itself isn’t the trendiest place in town, but it’s well-maintained and service was fast. The gyro meat was mega tender and had good flavor. It could have used a touch more tzatziki sauce, but I’m not complaining. Will definitely be back!

This place downright deserves a 5 star review, given the limited menu and freshness of food served. I had to make a quick stop late noon to pickup lunch and given the limited and«safe» food options in this area, this tiny shack caught my attention next to Midlothian pike. I was truly amazed with the attention, a customer gets as soon as he/she steps into the place. Place was not that busy but the guy behind the counter left no chance to greet customers as soon as they stepped in. I was suggested to order Grill chicken sub with everything and I opted for the meal combo with onion rings on the side. Boy, the sub arrived with the best marinated grill chicken inside with the bread still warm. The meat, vegetable and other ingredients are steaming hot. I loved every bite of it and the onion rings deserve extra pat for being crunchy to the last bite. I should have arrived with a big appetite so that I could try the Gyro menu too. Looking forward for my next business trip to Richmond so that I can try’em all !

After reading the reviews I was really excited to try this place. We made a special trip across town, and unfortunately were a little disappointed. The steak and cheese was really fatty and the onion rings were still dripping with grease. Maybe some of the other menu items are better, but we won’t be visiting again unless we’re in the area already.

Totally efficient and the food great! Know what you want, though. Don’t hold up the line. People are so nice and down to earth. No foolishness, that’s why I love them.

This is the BEST sub shop in Richmond. Bar none. My wife discovered it a few years ago when she worked in Midlothian. We moved out of state since then but when we visit we always come here at least once. The owner is awesome. He remembers everyone, even us when we come through only a few times a year. The steak and cheese is like most have said, really good. I love the cold cut. It is the BOMB! It is always spotless in the place as well. Do yourself a favor and stop here. The area is… well interesting but the food is well worth it.

Hands down the best steak and cheese I have had, philly’s pats and Gino’s doesn’t even come close. The subs are quality AND quantity. This place should be a tourist spot, on the food network that’s how great it is. Great place, great people and great food.

This is another story of «I’ve driven by here a hundred times and never stopped.» Well, this time I stopped and am glad I did. It doesn’t hurt that they were right next to an auto parts store and I needed wiper blades either. Making a submarine sandwich is a simple concept but restaurants approach it differently. Some places put classic combinations of ingredients on a roll to form your vanilla(type, not flavored) sub sandwich. Within this category, there are levels of quality, from a gas station to a real sub shop(Sub Central, Jersey Mike’s, etc.) Others go exotic/crazy and combine non-traditional ingredients or over the top quantities onto a sub-shaped sandwich, trying to trigger an appearance on a cable food network. For my sub, I usually prefer the former and that’s what I got from Sub Central. They have a nice selection of cold subs, toasted subs and sandwiches off the grill. I had a club sandwich, which fell into the toasted sub column. There was plenty of ham, turkey and bacon, and the bread was very fresh. I had to drive 25 minutes before eating it so I want to go back and have one that’s still warm and toasty, but my well-traveled sub was still delicious! I also want to go back to try their gyro. I saw someone eating one while I waited for my sandwich(I didn’t stare, I just glanced) and it looked delicious.

Got takeout tonight based off fellow Unilocalers. Thank you! The lady who answered the phone and took my order was friendly and it took only«10 minutes» before the food would be ready. We got the veggie sub and the grilled chicken sub. Both were tasty — the veggie was my personal fave. The chicken had TONS of grilled, chopped chicken — about double the meat I’ve gotten at other places. The whole family enjoyed dinner for under 14 bucks.

After my first taste of gyro, I was hooked. There is an amazing quality of ingredients and an abundance of both flavor and quantity. For around $ 6 you can get a gyro stuffed to the brim with what seems like lamb and Greek yogurt straight from Greece itself. Their onion rings are also awesome. Definitely a place to go if you want great fresh food without a huge sticker price. The only drawback is that the façade of the building looks like that of an ordinary, nothing special sub shop, so it blends in, but it is certainly extraordinary Location: Mr Submarine is located next to The ROC Church on Midlothian Turnpike.

*****CHANGEDNAME: SUBCENTRAL***** Please do not even consider this establishment… if you don’t like excellent ingredients, generous portions, and great customer service. :) If you eat here once, I guarantee you will be back. The first sub I got here had so much meat that I thought I was being hooked up! I guess I was used to Subway giving me precisely three pieces of thin sliced turkey per six inches of bread. They only have 12 inch subs here also, so come hungry. I came in with four other, famished soldiers straight out of training for the day, and left happy… with very full bellies and even left overs. Their steak and cheese is fantastic, but the gyros are by far my favorite. I am now stationed in Oklahoma and have yet to find a gyro that comes close to this one :( The customer service here is amazing also, Jimmy(the owner) makes everyone feel like they’re his best friend and that he really appreciates your business. Genuine, great service with a smile is very hard to come by these days. I guess the running theme here is QUALITY. Quality food and quality service shine through and will keep Sub Central in business forever, as that sets them apart from other organizations that are all about profit; skimping on the product while squeezing their customers dry for the sake of making as much money as they possibly can. Try this no-nonsense gem at least ONETIME… I promise you will not be disappointed.

I first noticed this place one day while I was driving around familiarizing myself with the area. At one time I think this was a KFC because the roof has that high«steeple» shape that used be to part of their older restaurant designs. Anyway… Today I decided to have lunch here and I’m glad I did. The prices are a little high, but you get a very large sandwich for $ 5-$ 6. They also have sweet tea and being from Atlanta, that makes me happy. They make a delicious steak and cheese sandwich and also have cold subs and gyros. Look for monthly specials that are advertised in their windows. Good food, quick service, and very friendly people.
