OMG !! Where do I start… this place should be Condemned !! The smell was pungent… the floor was absolutely Filthy… my friend asked to use the restroom but he quickly returned refusing to do so… I glanced around the corner into the small hallway and could understand why he refused. Just from what was seen in the hallway, he didn’t bother going into the restroom! The hallway was a mess of used rags, buckets, worn and broken brooms, etc, etc… for those who like this place… enjoy but its not on my list of places to ever patronize !

I always choose Eatery whenever I’m craving Chinese. Just expect at least a 40 min wait for delivery.

The delivery time was supposed to be 45 minutes. Took two hours to get here. Mind you I only live about 15 blocks away. The chicken was like rubber and after only a few bites I ended up being sick for two days.

**For those thinking of getting food delivered** I ordered delivery, which they stated would take 40 minutes. I called an hour after ordering, they said it would take another 15 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, I called again to check up on my order and they said again that it would take 15 minutes. I’m not exactly sure why an order would take an hour and a half to get delivered to a location that is no more than 3 miles away.

Went to this nondescript little place tonight, we ordered Chinese, a sub and some fries. Human beef was wonderful, the veggies were fresh and crisp. You could tell it was fresh, beef was tender and melt on your mouth yummy. Sub was on a fresh toasted bun, and the meat was hot, cooked while we watched and was so big we will definitely have some for tomorrow. The fries were some of the best I have ever had. For the value, we had dinner and lunch for tomorrow. The staff is friendly and definitely a family run business. Greatly recommend this as a place to go before or after a great movie.

I ordered the lunch special with a fried chicken wing and breast and shrimp fried rice. The chicken breast was still on the bone but butterflied before cooking which may have caused it to be overcooked and dry. The shrimp fried rice was on point and something I would definitely order again but not the chicken.

Food was amazing… I ordered the shrimp fried rice with two shrimp egg rolls and 1 big juicy chicken breast. I ate like a Queen. Some of the Best chinese food in a long time. Delivery was fast and food was hot and delish. Will definitely be back for more on my next trip here. The flavors were mind blowing. They even had sweet potato pie to curb my sweet tooth. It was heavenly.

Although I heard about Eatery before moving to Richmond, my expectations were minimal. Even so, the fusion between Americanized Chinese food and«soul food» sparked my interest. When it comes to the food, it’s exactly what you would expect from a Chinese take out place. It’s deliciously greasy, super cheap and fast. But what brings me back to Eatery time and time again is the fried chicken and fried rice. I always order half a chicken with fried rice and no onions. Less than 12 dollars, this meal yields about 3 servings. The chicken is always super crispy and the fried rice is pretty good. They provide this sticky, red sauce. not sure of the name. but I mix it with hot sauce and pour it over everything. It’s so good! Another thing! Rain, shine, hail or snow, you can always count on eatery to deliver. I’ve been in Richmond for 2 snow storms and thank goodness eatery was there to feed me! They’re more than deserving of a hefty tip. I am a huge fan.

I’ve been going to The Eatery for a couple of years now and it’s a place that I go to when I want something cheap and filling. I get the shrimp lo mein or 2 piece fried chicken with fried rice. The chicken pieces I have to say are way too big, especially the breast. It looks unappetizing, but it tastes pretty good.

What can I say sloppy but great carry out food. The lil waitress/order taker/cashier is kind of sassy, but she always confirms your order… I kind of like her. I haven’t been disappointed yet with my take out orders from this lil well known secret Chinese food joint.

Cheap place for anything fried. Chinese food is alright but a place where you can get chicken fingers, pizza and Chinese food all in one place screams red flag to me.

The food was good, not bad for a dive like Chinese restaurant… The food was better than expected by the general appearance of the restaurant and they had a smell of gasoline in it…

Alright, so not going to lie… my friends and I were looking for that cheap, close to home, Chinese takeout style and fellow Unilocalers led me to The Eatery. Well, it surely delivered! We walked in and uh well, let’s say it was your stereotypical Chinese restaurant that appeared to be run by a family. The kid took your order and he screamed it into the kitchen. It was pretty comical actually. So the whole Chinese and soul food thing is real. You can get anything from sesame chicken to hamburgers to fried chicken! I ordered the sesame chicken combo which was delish. I tried my friends’ crab rangoon and house lo mein which were also tasty. Within the combo, you get a giant shrimp egg roll which was awesome! Also, I ordered a regular sweet tea but it sure felt like a large! My friend that got the large size drink felt it was super sized! Just be warned, you will have to wait a bit of you come when they are busy. Also, do not be alarmed if it starts smelling like gasoline in the midst of waiting time… don’t ask questions… also, there was food left on the floor where we sat so if you are looking for Mr. Clean status location, this may not be it. However, you get a lot of food for your buck!

Been here so many times. Always order for deliveries(fast delivery). The chickens are not only delicious, but pretty big. Definitely bang for your buck. I recommend getting the chicken and rice with mamba sause. Lo mein and beef with broccoli isn’t bad either. I highly recommend eating here if your on budget. Warning: chickens are somewhat greasy and unhealthy

This place is near and dear to my heart! The Eatery is the ONLY quick Chinese restaurant I will always have faith in time and time again. I will actually go as far as saying I will not trust anywhere else in the US when I want good Chinese food. I am very picky when it comes to «trying» to new Chinese restaurants, but Eatery never fails! My fiancé was one to believe that all Chinese tastes the same, until I introduced him to The Eatery and he is now a believer that this is the best Chinese food! This holds true for all of my friends that I’ve introduced to this restaurant. I know the owner sees hundreds of customers on a regular basis, and yet she already knows what I am ordering as soon as she hears my voice over the phone! Even much so that when I change my order, she will still ask if I wanted to order anything that I usually order just in case I forgot an item! It is a family run business, as you will usually see her kids, mom and husband around, which makes for a comfortable experience knowing that the same people handle your food. I wouldn’t suggest dining in unless you are exploring Carytown for the day and need a quick bite. ALLHAILTHEEATERY!

Today was my first time trying this place because I always hear people hyping it up but it doesn’t live up to its hype. it’s good if you want something quick to eat and if you’re like starrrrving haha. We order 2 orders of the chicken wings and rice and a side of large fries. Everyone always talked about the chicken because they have the mambo sauce you can dip it in. It took a while for us to receive our order so totally wasn’t worth it.

You know one of days when you just crave that greasy, unhealthy, sodium packed fried food? I can feel my arteries clogging up just a little bit everytime I eat here but it’s one of the most satisfying bad, bad, cheat meal. I always get the 2 piece combo– it comes with 2 huge pieces of fried chicken on top of fried rice all for around $ 6.50. The chicken skin is pretty amazing in the most unhealthy way and the portion is more than enough for 1 meal. Their Mamba sauce is great on the side for the chicken. Service is terrible but what else do you expect from a place like this. People come here solely for their cheap, greasy food anyway. Btw there is a $ 5 minimum for card payment and they don’t accept American Express.

An inexpensive menu and very friendly service. It’s a landmark of Cary Street. I’ve found this place to be quite nice over the years. The cashiers are friendly, the food is inexpensive and comes out quickly. Have I had better flavor? Certainly. But this place is pretty darn good in a pinch. It’s about what you’d expect from a place that serves American and Chinese food. It’s also where the homeless come to grab a bite after begging for money from adventurous tourists from Henrico and Chesterfield who feel like slumming it «downtown.»
