Went to The Well on a Tuesday evening and it was empty. We got duck wings, mussels in pumpkin bisque, and a smoked salmon with horseradish/goat cheese. The food was very good, but the drink specials were better– $ 3 drafts, $ 4 wine, and another that I can’t remember. The happy hour went until 7, but not sure when it starts. I would go back again.

Bought a Groupon deal for The Well and was not disappointed! They have $ 5 food specials, Monday-Saturday from 5pm-8pm and we ended up ordering the $ 5 cod sandwich on a Friday night. For a $ 5 fish sandwich, we were definitely pleased! The fries are more like British-style«chips» — not totally crispy and served with malt vinegar so the fries can soak it up. The Well adds a genius twist to their fries by adding lots of Old Bay seasoning — and I have a serious love affair with Old Bay! P. S. leftover fries make for great breakfast potato hash browns the next morning. Just sayin’! We also ordered 6 hot wings which were HUGE; fried with a good amount of heat. I kinda wish they offered a «naked» wings option(not fried) but that’s a personal preference. I never comment on House Salads, but The Well serves an awesome one with artichokes, cheddar, avocado, and a poppy seed dressing; highly recommend this one! Atmosphere is casual and service is friendly. You have the option of sitting at the bar, tables, or booths. Oh and check out the restrooms — entertaining wall art! I definitely plan to return for future happy hours and Date Night on Mondays/Tuesdays — $ 28 for 2 entrees, 1 dessert, and 2 draft beers or 2 glasses of wine. They also have karaōke on Wednesdays(score!) and DJs/live music on Fridays/Saturdays. Check this place out next time you’re in the VCU area; I think The Well will definitely become one of my to-go spots!

When I found out Cous Cous was closing, I was sad. When I found out the owners of Cous Cous were reopening with a different concept in the same location, I was excited. Then I went to actually dine there. I went about a week after opening. It’s very hard to write this review without comparing it to Cous Cous, as both businesses were located in the same space. I think that Cous Cous had a better atmosphere. I also think that the quality declined with the menu change. My girlfriend ordered Corn Soup, which she enjoyed but thought was a little bit too milky. I ordered a Fried Fish Sandwich, and while on paper it looked delicious, when I got the sandwich it was so wet that I literally could not hold it. I might have been able to enjoy it if it held together as an actual sandwich. I was disappointed. I’ll have to go back again to try one of their hamburgers to see how they hold up, but until then I will be missing Cous Cous. Also, the service was fantastic.

So happy to see that the space once occupied by Cous Cous lives on as The Well! The décor is laid back, the music is good, and the food is delish. I had a really tasty fried mushroom salad and my friend had an amazing looking pimento cheese pretzel sandwich. Service is top notch and they have some great happy hour specials till 7pm! I think The Well is going to be one of my new favorite places!
