The scenery was beautiful at the restaurant, which is near the Riverwalk! It wasn’t crowded during the lunch hour so it was a perfect ambiance. The restaurant is large so I am sure it can get pretty crowded during rush hour. The food was delicious; I ordered fish, fries, greens, coleslaw, and skillet cornbread! My waitress was such a sweetheart and very attentive. I recommend it for a casual dining experience.

My wife and I were walking the multipurpose trail nearby. We stopped in here when my wife started feeling weak and needed to get her blood sugar up. The staff were extremely helpful. The mint chocolate brownies were amazing. We will be back for a full meal.

We ate here with a large group of people. Several folks in the group had never had catfish or professed that they didn’t like it– this place converted them. Food was fantastic– catfish, hush puppies, cole slaw– all amazing– and a ton of it! Don’t miss this place!

This places hits the ABCs of a great restaurant. A. The food: Outstanding catfish and amazing tartar sauce to go with it. Great cornbread and hush puppies. The chicken tastes great as well. The greens, coleslaw, etc. I haven’t had bad food here once. B. Great place for family. Right beside the water and even ducks the kids will love. C. Great service. Whenever I’m passing through, I always try to make it there. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

I was completely un-impressed with this restaurant. Didn’t know it was possible to serve only TWO entrées. The service was horrible, had to ask for a drink three times before I got it. The chicken tasted like it was old and had be warmed up. We just moved to Mississippi and we’ve only had catfish one other time here and that place blew this place out of the water. Then on our way out not one of the five servers standing by the door said«thank you for coming» or anything for that matter which I have NEVER had happen at a restaurant. Will absolutely not be returning to this over-priced, over-rated restaurant and would not recommend anyone else going either.

My first legit southern meal and I think I have a newfound love for mustard greens. I walked away pleasantly full, enjoyed everything I ate and having experienced real southern hospitality. I was here for work and as a lunch request asked for a southern Mississippi meal. We dined during lunch which had a simple menu — fried chicken or catfish with your choice of sides. The waiter, realizing it was my first time in the south, provided stellar customer service and offered the cornbread flipping show/experience despite that usually being something done during dinner time only. He also brought mustard greens to share — something I am now a fan of! If you get there when lunch first starts, there shouldn’t be a wait but did become fairly full within the hour. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better first time southern meal experience. I’d definitely go back should I return to the area.

We have been coming here for years, but I have not been here in over a year. The catfish pieces have gotten smaller. We usually order a keel a boat with a couple of sides and eat it family style. However, we were about to go to war over the small pieces of catfish. Our waiter was disorganized as he was trying to do too much at one time. He brought out drinks and dinner for two tables and got everything mixed up. Both tables had to repeat the orders because he was so mixed up. Overall, it wasn’t a bad experience, but I know they are capable of doing better.

Disappointed by the small dinner menu but the catfish was good. The volume of fries we were given for four people could have fed 12 and when we walked out people were feeding the Canadian Geese fries and their left over fish. Much too much food — the place could’ve come out better with folks like us and the ones next to us that left fish and fries to give us all you can eat and not waste it. Also put some machines outside with corn in them so the ducks at least get a healthy meal and you can charge a quarter turn for food — ask Game & Fish!

Catfish or chicken. Only two options here. Fish was pretty good, but im a hard judge on catfish, being from the deep south. Coleslaw, hush puppies, and all the other fixings were pretty good. Cornbread served in a cast iron skillet. Place is huge on the banks of the reservoir in ridgeland. But it is always packed. Parking is pretty bad. Very loud, great for groups not dates.

Restaurant is on my «must visit list» every time I return to Jackson, MS since my departure in 1999. This is the only place I will eat catfish because it tastes«clean» and is fried properly. As usual, coleslaw & pickled onions were great. They’ve added jalapenos to the cornbread since the last time I ate it and it was good. Greens were much anticipated but lacked a bit in flavor. Hush puppies big and maybe a bit overfried but good. Fries… limp. So I just ate more coleslaw. Service was… lacking. I’m inclined to believe our waiter was still in training since he was obviously having trouble keeping up with the tables he was being sat. Drink refills were a distant dream, had to ask for to go boxes 3 times and fried pickles were admittedly given to another table, so the replacement came out after the meal was served but were taken off our bill. I’ll be back for the food and hopefully by then our waiter will be trained. :)

Hot cornbread served in a cast iron skillet, Hushed puppies cooked to perfection, attentive service, hot fried catfish — yummy and so much food 3 of us had leftovers. I even loved the picked onions. Great place to eat, great service and really good down home fresh food

Fried catfish and fried chicken. Nuff said…(Honestly, that is the only two main courses they have on the menu.) It is all good. and I do allow myself a bit of fried food once a year or so. When the fried hankering starts a calling, I think of Cock of the Walk. It is located out on the Reservoir. Ask to be seated ‘downstairs’ and you’ll have good views of the water while you eat. Your meal will include a round of tasty corn bread and cole slaw and you can order a pot of greens. There are other appetizers as well like fried pickles and onion rings. All very tasty and all very unhealthy. If you go at lunch on a weekday you can order a catfish or chicken plate that comes with two sides of vegetables. Also, when friends and family want to go and I don’t want to eat fried food, I’ll order a vegetable plate which is good. The only problem is that my hand starts venturing over to fetch a piece of fried catfish off of someone’s keel boat special. It is too hard to resist — I want the catfish but also want someone to slap my hand back with the wooden spoon from the pot of greens.

How I miss living here and getting to enjoy the amazing food here often! We were back in town visiting and had to stop to devour their amazing catfish, skillet jalepeno cornbread and coleslaw. I have to mention, I DONOT eat coleslaw but theirs… I don’t know what’s in it but it’s killer! Don’t forget to order sweet tea to swallow it all down with!

So I’ll give the good/decent first since hopefully our incident is not a common occurrence(although I doubt it): This place is great for large groups — the inside is huge and the menu is simple, so there’s not a lot of turmoil over what to order and mistakes can’t really happen. We had a party of 26 and were not out of place. The fried pickles are the best I’ve ever had! Seriously. The catfish, coleslaw, fries and greens were all pretty good, but didn’t seem to leave anyone blown away. The servers were decently nice and seemed use to handling the chaos of large groups and children. They also served all the kids drinks in styrofoam cups with lids which was very nice and a relief. The not so great: There are only two entrée options and everything is fried.(This restaurant definitely helps explain the obesity rate in Mississippi.) Unfortunately, the hush puppies left a lot to be desired and the chicken was just mediocre. The tables are very close together and just too small overall for the number of people they try to sit at them. Getting up from the table was an absolute pain and you were constantly bumping elbows. Now for the bad: COCKROACHES!!! We were seated at a table with 10 people, all of whom had plates, plus three platters of food, a plate of appetizers and all the pots from the sides on the table and a cockroach still had the balls to run across our table! The fact that it wasn’t scared to be on our table when it was so busy along with the fact that it looked adolescent in size tells me that there are probably a lot more that call this restaurant home and are use to running across counters with activity. Due to the fact that we were in such a large group and I didn’t want to create a huge mess or freak the kids out, we just smashed it and did not bring the issue up to management. So I can’t say how they handled the situation or what there reaction was. To make a long story short, we will not be back.

I stopped by here last month with my wife for dinner after getting a recommendation from my boss. It was dark whenever we arrived and so we couldn’t really see too much of the reservoir but from what I could tell, I’d bet the view is awesome during the day. Whenever we entered Cock of the Walk I was surprised by how huge the inside of this place actually was. There were numerous dining rooms and we were led to one in the back and sat at a window seat along the water. The décor and feel of this place was comforting and rustic with lots of exposed wood. Whenever we sat down to order I was surprised to only see two entrée items on the menu, chicken and catfish. Of course I would rather have two items that are made really well than a huge number of items made poorly. I ended up going with the chicken while my wife went with the catfish with the full intention that we would share our meals. These entrees also came with with sides of white pickled onion, cole slaw, hush puppies, fries and jalapeño cornbread. The cornbread comes out first in a skillet and is flipped high up into the air by the server. Unfortunately our server missed ours(I did see her catch 3 others) and so we had to wait for a while until a new one was made for us. Once it did finally arrive both my wife and I enjoyed it. Shortly after we dug into our cornbread our meal came to the table. Both the chicken and the catfish were excellent and I really enjoyed them both. Each was hot and moist and the breading had a good flavor to it. However the sides that were served with my meal fell flat. They were fairly cold and as I am sure that you all know, cold fries and cold hush puppies are not very appealing. The bottom line for me is that I might be back in the future. While the chicken and the catfish were excellent and would make a compelling reason to head back here, the cold sides would not.

This is one of the Jackson area’s two 5-star catfish places. First of all, this is an absolute must for any visitors not from the South. Catfish is a southern staple and they do it just right here. If you have a visitor come in, take them here for the experience. The views from the large windows right on the Ross Barnett Reservoir are spectacular(particularly at sunset), the«theme» of the restaurant adds a nice flair, and the food is great. They fry fish, hush puppies, fried dill pickles and fries as well as anyone. The Cole-slaw is tasty. If you like greens, I understand these are good, I guess I’m just not THAT Southern! The jalapeño cornbread is delicious and you get the treat of them throwing it in the air to flip it at the table! Tin plates, tin cups, waiters dressed like boatman from the riverfront in Natchez all make this a unique place. I thing to note: There are only two main course menu options — Fried Catfish or Fried Chicken. If you don’t want one of those, this is not the place to go!

Everything we had was good. Fried catfish, cole slaw, cornbread, etc. the pickled onions were the best. And they kept bringing the side dishes out. They even gave us cups to take some home. The only thing I would do differently is add smoked hamhock in the greens. I would totally come back.

If you are looking for southern cooking, fresh seafood and great atmosphere– then head to «Cock of the Walk». On a recent trip to Jackson, I stopped in for dinner here. I ordered the fried pickles/onion rings(they let you split a basket if you want to do half/half) and the catfish dinner. The fried pickle chips were great! The batter was the right consistency– not too salty and not too thick. The catfish was amazing! Fresh tasting and again they were«spot on» with the batter. The homemade tartar sauce is also great — not too salty and just the right amount of ‘tang’. The french fries did not disappoint either. Actually, none of the food disappoints. I’m not a fan of coleslaw and I enjoyed theirs. It’s not too heavy with mayo– which I loved. If you are in the area and enjoy catfish– definitely give them a try. For lunch they offer fried green tomatoes and various other sides that are not available at dinner. That might be my only complaint– I love fried green tomatoes but they are not available during dinner.
