Ridgewood Karate School

My kids have been with Ridgewood Shukokai for over 10 years. They are great with the kids. my 6 year old has been going for 2 years now. He can be a challenge, but they don’t seem to notice. They are amazing with him. I watch him smile the whole time along with all the other kids. They are very hands on. highly recommended!

I recently moved to the area and was looking to get back into karate training. They offer a nice full schedule of classes, with evening and morning (!!) adult classes and a fabulous program of children’s karate classes. This school has been around for years and is located behind the Starbucks in downtown Ridgewood (free parking in the lot right there). The owners are charming, warm people with many, many years of karate experience (6^th Dan, 5^th Dan, etc) who teach the classes themselves with the help of young adults who’ve come up through the program. Everyone is extremely friendly and welcoming, super patient with beginners, but the classes are challenging enough for more advanced practitioners. I have been so impressed with their leadership program, which trains tweens/​teens to teach the younger students, that I signed two of my children up for the classes too. Highly recommend!
