This has become a last resort place for us… the food is meh. The problem we have is with the wait staff, none of the waitresses seem happy. Yes it is a job, but if you don’t like interacting with people, don’t get a job that depends on tips! Compared with Jim’s where someone is always walking around with a pot of coffee, here you have to set your hair on fire to get a second cup! As stated at the start of this review, this is a last resort for us.

The wait time for the food was long, my English muffin was cold, hard, and without butter and the overall meal was slightly warm. The waitress and bus staff was really nice, even came after us down the street to give us a cell phone we left at the table. After only eating a couple bites of a 6.95 meal the owner gave us $ 2 off the bill. Maybe he should focus on hiring kitchen staff as good as his other employees. Won’t be going back.

This is one of my two«go-to» breakfast spots. Like many of the other reviews said, it is your local neighborhood diner. The mix is eclectic with everyone from families, college kids, young punks, the reverend(who always seems to sit at the counter), senior citizens, white, black, brown, cyan, etc. You get the idea. And there is good reason, the place puts out quality food at a good value. The Greek family that runs the place has a good rapport with everyone, and they let their food do most of the talking. I often get their steak and eggs here, but the pancakes are a great option when I’m craving sweet instead of salty/savory. The family also sells some goods right on site such as, olive oil, spices and kitchen necessities.

As a lover of hip-hop, I appreciate things that rhyme, and as a lover of breakfast, I appreciate a tip-top meal. This place gave me exactly that. In the words of Shaggy AKA Mr. Lova Lova, this diner is «Boombastic!»

Cheap diner with friendly, fast service. No complaints, and the stuffed french toast was fantastic.

Pretty run of the mill diner but very friendly staff and quick service! They serve breakfast all day which is a plus. Get hash browns with onions in them! :P

Comfort food at it’s best at least for breakfast… We have only gone here for the breakfast so we have no idea about any other meal… Think old school diner and that’s what you get… Nice staff and quick service… Great coffee

The atmosphere is very homey and cozy. The food is alright. Its pretty bland and the ingredients aren’t the freshest. With all the diners in Rochester I probably wouldn’t come back. However, there were a lot of regulars in the restaurant. I feel like this place is a hit or a miss for people.

So my husband and I and two of our friends decided to go to the Golden fox, we thought hey we’ll try this place, for breakfast heard it was pretty good. We got there the service was good the wait staff was amazing, they were really nice. We ordered and they kept filling up our coffee which is always nice not to have to wait for that. Then our food came, I was shocked I was like this looks really good, got all my condiments on and then took ny first bite of eggs and potatoes and pulled out a huge long brown curly hair!!! Also my french toast was cold I couldn’t believe it, I was so disgusted, I will never come here again.

Golden Fox is my kind of joint, skip the glam and upscale crap(that you end up paying for) that other popular hip places in the city have and just give me some good food. I don’t go to a restaurant to be pampered, I go to stuff my fat gullet. Fortunately, Golden Fox allows me to do this at a good price with bangin food. It’s the simple things though, such as using oversized english muffins with the benedict(not the normal dinky sized ones). I don’t even care if these dudes that own it are from the town of Greece, they’re aight in my book.

After several successful trips to the Golden Fox, they’ve now lost my business after our most recent visit. My daughter found a giant hair on her Belgian waffle, and while a woman I believe was the manager was quick to take it back to the kitchen and replace it, I lost my appetite and was pretty much unable to eat my own egg breakfast. When the waffle replacement came, both my son and daughter said it tasted«funny» — I stuffed down my nausea and tried a bite to see what they meant, and indeed the waffles had an odd, sour aftertaste. We finished what we could and went to pay the bill. The manager(?) said chirpily, «Was everything OK?» and when I said«no, actually, it wasn’t» she seemed surprised. I reminded her about the hair, told her that it had really put me off my meal, and said that even the hairless waffles weren’t very good. She then offered to make me something to go. Umm, no… I don’t want any more of your subpar food, thanks. She did not offer to take the waffle or anything else off the bill, which was the final straw for me. There are just far too many great diners in Rochester to bother with one that doesn’t make an effort to satisfy their clientele.

Maybe it’s just me, but I was not impressed by this place by any means. I’ve seen the many good reviews about this place and decided to try it for breakfast last week. The place is large, and I love the amount of seating they provide with big comfy booths. Fast and friendly service, but the food was not great… just good. The toast was my favorite part, their rye toast is great! I ordered the Italian frittata, and was so excited when it arrived because it looked great… but to my surprise was quite bland and dry. Manny and I split a short stack of chocolate chip pancakes and they were good. My friend Jackie actually got what poked very delicious — Stuffed french toast topped with raspberry sauce(on special) she said it was very good. Very limited breakfast me u, they just offer the basics. Perhaps I will come back for lunch or dinner some time and re evaluate.

Try the Fox! Great battered fish fry with sizable portions. Been going there 6x/yr for years and the food and service is always great. Don’t look for ambiance but order off the large menu and ask for changes and substitutions as the accommodate nicely. 5-stars when they work the heating system out in the back room for winter, change out the cheap, warped pictures on the walls and add some lighting in the back room but it is what it is for what you get you pay.

Best eggs Benedict in town! Service is great too. We have been dining here since the early 80’s. Never disappoints!

This was an unexpected diner delight. I went today for the first time and really enjoyed my French bread French toast. My brunch buddies appeared to enjoy their meals as well(Greek salad, home fries with onions, and a Greek omelette were their choices). I would like to go back and try some of the other offerings(they have breakfast, lunch and dinner) since it’s pretty hard to screw up French toast. All in all: friendly, efficient service, reasonably priced with good portion sizes, and convenient location.

I have to thank whoever told me to try Golden Fox! It will be a new staple in my go-to places to eat in Rochester. Why cook when you can pay such reasonable prices for food made with love at this best kept secret? I can’t wait to try their Greek foods on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I’ll be back and I’ll bring friends!

I read Stanley M’s review and had to visit… especially after seeing him check in as many times as he has here. I was quite happy with the recommendation. I came with a couple girlfriends for a birthday/farewell breakfast after Christmas. The service was prompt with immediate coffees and waters. Our waitress was a sweetheart. We were easy and ordered the traditional breakfast options — eggs any style, bacon or sausage, toast… all the good stuff. And, we were stuffed. I don’t know what it is about diner toast, but this toast was AMAZING. Perfectly golden brown with the salty butter. YUM. It’s not replicable at home, I swear. That’s how Golden Fox keeps you coming back. It’s the toast… It definitely has that neighborhood feel to it where most customers are regulars and is slightly divey with the dated décor. That’s what gives diners like Golden Fox their character. It was a great breakfast spot and knowing it’s not too far around the corner from my apartment is nice. I love finding new options — especially when a place deserves the love.

This was my second time dining at Golden Fox and been happy both times. Service is friendly and food is decent. The place has a lot of regulars, you can tell by the interactions going on between the patrons and servers an even table to table. That’s always a good sign of a reliable restaurant. At the end of our breakfast, my girl and I both had empty plates. We shall return!

A solid, venerable Rochester institution… I’ve been going to Golden Fox for almost thirty years now, ever since Dick Storms hepped me to it back in my Record Archive days. Nestled in the corner of Culver & Parsells, the GoFox(as we like to call it) is a gem in a neighborhood that has seen better times. While they’ve made subtle improvements over the years(expanded seating, new tile floor), the basics of the Fox have remained the same. Superb food, super friendly service and fair prices. Whether it’s breakfast after church(my wife loooves their Eggs Benedict), a power lunch with friends(used to be the go-to place for our late Mayor Tom Ryan) or a casual dinner(Wednesdays and Thursdays for Greek specialties), the Golden Fox never fails to satisfy. Highlights: Moussaka(on Greek night), Sausage omelet(not on menu, ask for it though) and their legendary Eggs Benedict(my wife’s a Hollandaise snob and she swears it’s the best). Very kid friendly, especially after my daughter discovered their ham steak dinner.
