Not to be confused with the«Lake Ontario Skate Parkway» where you can rollerblade and sh**, or the«Crate Parkway» where they store a lot of beer, nor the«Slate Parkway» which is grey and miserable, or the awesome«Mate Parkway» where you can go with someone you are attracted to and, well, mate. I drive this road regularly even though it’s not on my way home. I will go out of my way to drive on this road because it follows the edge of Lake Ontario all the way from Rochester, halfway to Fort Niagara and Niagara Falls. It’s a fantastic place for a road even though it can’t make environmentalists(of which I am somewhat one) and conservationists too happy. I last drove on this road on Saturday night(5 days ago). I have driven on this road probably 40 times in my life and there will be more. The highlights are the beautiful lake views and how quiet and unspoiled it is. The limit is 55mph but people usually go faster. The reason it doesn’t get 5 stars despite the amazing location and views is that(a) the views don’t usually last too long. A lot of the time houses or trees obscure the lake, so it’s not the most consistent road for great views. More of a bits-and-pieces partial-view road. There are a few stretches however that are amazing, as you can see from the uploaded pix. And(b) the main problem is the surface. This is why the road loses a star, to be honest. It’s absolutely horrendous. There are portions of it where it feels like you are driving on the moon. It’s one of the bumpiest highways I’ve ever driven on with enormous potholes and horrendous concrete. It’s probably very bad for your car. So this is a huge caveat and the reason I don’t often recommend people take a drive along this road. This road was built in the 1950s and is roughly 38 miles long. It’s well worth a drive, but be wary that it could mess up your suspension. And if it was the«Fate Parkway», then you would have no control over what happens on it. Whereas if it were the«Fête Parkway», a bunch of rich people would have lawn parties along here. And if it were the«My-Period-Is-Late Parkway» then you are going to be having a new family member pop out of nowhere(or somewhere) soon.
