Time to let your inner funny out, and just be daring at tackling the Village Idiots Comedy Improv. There NEW location is now directly across the street from Autozone on East Main, in the plaza. Martha who is a TOP Level 5 Village Idiot will be there to greet you as you enter through the front door. As you can see from the pictures, you walk into a very intimate acting studio w/stage. This place rocks for the fact that they take cards for all there concessions, bonus for those who hate carrying cash. Everyone will greet you as soon as you begin to look around, and all of them are outrageously funny. I took the Introduction Level 1 Class, where this gave me the basics of learning Improv Comedy. The goal is to let yourself go, and release the inner-self within you. You have to be the type of person who is not afraid to go out there, or care what people think. This class was mixed from beginners(like me) all the way to Level 5 Masters. The class itself was lead by Master Improv Artist Swithun. He did an amazing job of directing you on what to do throughout the entire class. Improv is NOT stand-up comedy, there are RULES you have to follow. Once you follow these rules you will be an official Idiot. This class will test your skills in Memory, and English. So come in for a class or an after work date together, and it will be one of the most funniest moments you’ll remember. Example concepts are as follows: Using your Head Yes/And Scenario: At the beginning of the scene, Character #1 will begin by establishing setting and plot. Character #1: What a hot and miserable day to be a ranch hand! Following the«Yes And» method, Character #2 will accept the premise and add onto the situation. Character #2: Yep and the boss said we don’t get no water until this fence is mended. Character #1: Yes and ain’t he the meanest cuss we’ve ever worked for? Character #2: Yep and it’s made me think about leaving behind this cowboy life and headin’ off for San Francisco. The premise is to be agreeable instead of disagreeable, which makes life funny. Body Memory Movement Scenario: You have to copy the movement of someone in your group. This is hard cause someones movement is always changing, so you should always be moving! Alphabet Improv Scenario: is a form of improvisation that is used to train young actors. The process is to say each line in alphabetical order of the first letter. You would pick a category, and have to follow through with your letter in rotation. As it progressed it included body moment, and exasperation’s. Looks easy right? Hard when you to have to encompass all those elements at once, while memorizing the next letter coming to you. Overall: Welcoming Atmosphere, Intimate Comedy Environment, ABC’s of Improv– Village Idiots Style, Level 1– Level 5, and the Master Swithun… I will be back.
