Beach Bagel

Been a rockaway staple for years. The bagels are good and fluffy. Baked directly on premise. It’s a little depressing on the inside but I guess after sandy they didn’t want to fully renovate. Good place to grab a quick breakfast.

Love this place. Friendly neighborhood bagel store. The owner/​employees seems to know everyone. High quality bagels and sandwiches with plenty of care and attention given to every order. Open very early in the morning with easy parking.

Not a very fancy/​snazzy sort of place, and with limited options since we came on a weekend, but very good sandwiches and friendly service. Clearly a small-​town neighborhood favorite. Get there EARLY for your choice of bagels.

Not the best bagels I’ve ever had, but this was a fantastic bagel spot. The owner and the employees seemed to know every single customer that walked in here and treated them like friends. It gets very crowded in here, but the staff knows what they’re doing and they’ll get through the lines quickly. I highly recommend this spot for breakfast sandwiches if you are in the area.

I can’t say enough positive things about this place. From the first time you visit, you become FAMILY. Mohammad, or whoever is working behind the counter, remembers your name and your order. The place is cash only, and I did not know that the first time I visited so I had no cash. When I offered to go to an ATM, Mohammad told me «it’s OK, just pay me next time.» Where can you find a place in NYC that still works on the IOU/​honor system? I was so impressed by that. Now that I work in the area, I stop by frequently to get to some good Deli food at reasonable prices and to see my friends at Beach Bagel!

Bagels are a subjective experience. Following the ratings can be disappointing. Understand the characteristics of the bagel so that you can find your ideal bagel.
Bagels are boiled then baked so they have a different texture than rolls or bread. They are chewy. Different bagel bakeries have different size bagels, and differ in their technique varying the bagel experience.
Beach bagels are on the larger size and are dense. They are well baked but not airy or fluffy. The outside has a detectable crispness that contrasts nicely with a soft inside. It is moderately chewy.
The bagels here are A+ in my book with some variability in processing. I have sampled scores of bagel establishments in the metropolitan area and have not found a better bagel. The service is excellent, accurate and efficient.
Do not come here for the ambience.

These are not bagels. These are rolls with a hole. It’s as if these are baked like a regular bread roll then given a slight puncture in the middle to look like a bagel.
I have not had any luck with bagel places lately and Beach Bagel does nothing to change that. I asked for a poppyseed bagel and it was only seeded on one side (see pic). Like ordering a pizza and getting half pepperoni. I knew right away how it would taste when it felt like a bread roll in my hand. The only good thing about the place was that the jalapeño cheese cream is decent. Unfortunately, they don’t have any of the cream cheese flavors listed anywhere so you have to ask the counter guy what is what. Guy behind the counter was nice but it doesn’t make up for the poor quality of the bagels. They have a couple foldout tables to act as a seating area but no bathroom.
Bad enough that residents in the area had to deal with the devastation of hurricane Sandy but they also have to deal with this poor excuse of a bagel place.

Probably the best bagel on the peninsula, some of that is because the other places are so awful, but they have decent bagels as well. Service is fast, they clear the line quickly.

Great people, great bagels, great service. Did I say «great» enough? Great.

Best bagels and the best staff. Always courteous and friendly. Go there more than a few times and, not only will the guys remember your order from last time, they’ll be asking your name and getting to know you too. Always a pleasure! I’m very much a regular.

Great bagels, but they’ve been custom making my egg sandwiches since ’95. Definitely a go to if you’re in rockaway and want breakfast.

The bagels are amazing. Some of the best I’ve ever had. They’re huge too, so a half dozen will go a long way. The staff is great at managing the long lines on weekend mornings.

Great bagels made fresh daily in the morning before they open. Huge iced coffees at a low price. Good for breakfast and lunch. Nice staff too.
