Here we are on a beautiful October evening. Looking for a great Italian meal. We walk in and the place is busy! Wow what a delight! We’re ordering baked clams. Filet if sole Franchisee and cheese ravioli. The food has come and delicious! We are just reveling in it! It is wonderful to see the place packed!

Firstly, I hate to be a tattle tale, but I feel Unilocal brought us to this place so Unilocal should hear about the discrepancy we had in experience as compared to this place’s rating. I mean we wasted time, hundreds of dollars and received poor results. I would like to say that I would never give two stars to a small, mom and pop type restaurant that appears to be hard-working but this unfortunately however was the experience I received for a large group of people. Here’s my list of the negatives for this place that I think others might consider. High Price $$$: Wow! For a tiny restaurant that is on 116th St in a very«unusual» block off the beach they are offensively high in price in my humble opinion. I mean«unusual» because 116thST is the central point for the Far Rockaway A train beach traffic that brings ALL of New York from the Bronx to Brooklyn. It calms down once the beach traffic starts leaving by dusk but sometimes it can be downright hardcore walking down this street during summer day hours. So the $$$ pricing is unacceptable for this setting. I mean $ 20 for a regular size calamari with sauce on top?! $ 17 for pasta with pesto sauce(with sporadic canned mushrooms) in a small 6″ cereal bowl? Poor Preparation: They should of just told our large group that they couldn’t accommodate us(12 people) and save face instead of opting for the big check. They claimed they didn’t have enough water glasses immediately upon seating. Really? Then due to their poor preparation it took TWOHOURS to get our meals! We came in at 7pm and didn’t get entrees until after 9pm! We couldn’t leave due to options in area and children with us that were starving. If you can’t handle large groups DONOTACCEPTTHEM! Okay Food: The okay food was made to feel worse due it’s subpar presentaton and the four star restaurant pricing. The worst offender was the Pasta with pesto sauce. The owner described a popular dish with amazing pesto, broccoli, mushrooms. She said the localslove it and eat it all the time. What I received again(two hours after I ordered) was a small cereeal bowl of what seemed to be linguine with clam sauce! It had chopped broccoli stems and some canned mushrooms and possibly some light undetectable pesto but it was clearly linguini with clam sauce. Were they out of pesto? Is the chef trying to fool people? Just really worth and tasted like nothing. And for $ 17 too! The only reason this didn’t become a huge problem is because we had guests from Italy and were embarrassed. Subpar Service: The two hour wait for food while others in the restaurant(regulars) were served and left who came after us is unacceptable. What seemed to of been the owner was working most the floor, doing everything with little help. She very transparently fibbing because everything was stated to be «So good» on the menu and either she or somebody just ate it and loved it yesterday. Really? The whole menu is equally amazing and somebody just loved every single thing within the last day? Another laughable claim she made when we sat was that they make everything fresh to order(isn’t that what we’re here for?) and she can customize or change anything we want. Okay, maybe that is the reason for the inflated prices. So we ask to have less of something by asking for just broiled or baked fish without the Oreganata… so she anxiously starts to argue that it’s the same thing and she can’t do it for kitchen restraints reasons. Then why say you customize sweetie? Poor atmosphere: As said earlier the outside is somewhat a little unsafe feeling as what seems to be a very hard NY crowd is leaving the beach around 6pm-ish. Not their fault of course but combine that with the shell game switch of thinking your walking into an authentic Italian restaurant due to it’s name and reviews only to walk into American pop music playing with a very American host lady running the place, your bubble quickly pops. We quickly felt this was not an authentic Italian restaurant but more a local spot that serves Italian type dishes. Then why the authentic name and high specialty prices? Then throw on over priced food with no apparent edge, flavor or identity you have a clear miss across the boards. She did offer a complimentary broccoli due to the two hour wait and promised a free carafe of wine next time?! Next time? We had over three carafes of wine, spent over $ 400, waited over two hours and ate bland incorrectly made food and you couldn’t give us a complimentary carafe of your house wine? You might be wondering why two stars then? Because I think, considering that we saw this small restaurant fill up while we ate, the locals seem to have a decent experience in smaller groups of two to four people. Another point would be that there are no other Italian restaurants in that area other then pizza places. At least we filled up on three baskets of supermarket Italian bread and butter to abide our hunger until we could leave without incident.

I’ve been dining at this restaurant since I can remember. The best Italian food in the world and I’ve had Italian all over the world. My Unkey D can’t get enough of this place. When ever I am on the east coast I make sure to get dinner at Tiberio’s.

Having decided to do the Rockaway, I relaxed, leaned back and made it to the end of Beach 116 Street only to discover that hunger pains were signaling the need for action. Limited sit down choice in the vicinity made stopping by Tiberio a necessity as at the moment we were more interested in a clean bathroom, water and a comfortable seat than expanding the search radius. Tiberio Dimare is the Rockaway Park version of Cheers insofar as the staff seemed to know just about every customer’s name. Genuine hospitality, that art lost to disinterested waiters and crumbling communication skills, is alive and well at Tiberio. Our waitress actually spoke with us, as humans once did, about the area, about where we are from and spoke with pride about this little restaurant. It’s the kind of place where, when having food wrapped to go, the waitress will give tips on the best way to reheat the item.(A microwave is clearly forbidden!) Or where you’ll get an alert that the police are checking for tickets on the main street so if you need to step outside, that’s understandable. The menu is filled with Italian American classics, with plenty of seafood and pasta options. Despite being a short distance from actual water, I was feeling more like eating a land creature and there’s nothing finer than a baby cow that’s been raised and slaughtered just for my pleasure. I’m talking about veal, veal francese to be exact. I received three thin slices, lightly breaded and with a generous twist of the pepper shaker. A side bowl of spaghetti and tomato sauce served as my side. Compared to places that will offer up a massive chunk of veal, I actually enjoyed the sectioned variation. There was less cutting for me and that resulted in less wait time to eat. Tender and tasty, I’d easily order the veal again. Additionally, the spaghetti was sitting in a sauce that was chunky and flavorful as opposed to the watery tomato type. Prices were roughly $ 20 for the veal francese and other entrees were in that vicinity. Note that the establishment is cash only. If I had more cash on me I would have eaten much more.

I recently dined at Tiberio for the second time — such a disappointment after reading all the great reviews and having had a good experience my first time there. We arrived — a party of two– and the place was empty. were told to sit where ever we wanted. Waited a long time for service — while a male waiter sat checking his cell phone and the female waitress ignored us. Finally got water and gave our order. Anticipated the receipt of our food — took forever — even though we were the only customers. First course was good — now other customers start to arrive and the male waiter and the female waitress rush to greet them(did not do this for us) and after greeting them begin to tell them all the«specials» available/Wow — No specials for us — oh well as we had already placed our orders we did not say anything. Now for the dinner — had the worst veal I have ever had in a restaurant — no taste — hard as a rock and burnt. partners meal was just«okay» according to her. Waitress never came to our table to ask if all was Okay or if I wanted another drink — Can’t believe we were treated so poorly when everyone else who came into the place was greeted immediately and fussed over. Needless to say the last time we will be dining there.

Been going to Tiberios for as long as I can remember. Great food and great service. Monkfish is awesome when they have it. If not the snapper or filet mignon are really great and the sauces they come in are delicious so ask for extra bread. Great place. Highly recommended.

We hadn’t been to Tiberio’s in ages & ages and decided to go a couple of weeks ago. It hasn’t changed — Rudy(the owner) is still as great & happy as ever. He rememberd us and made good friends with our 6-year old son. On a recommendation of the Unilocalers, we ordered the Red Snapper Special and let me tell you — bear in mind that I am NOT a huge fish person — it was DELICIOUS! My poor husband barely had any of his meal as my son & I kept«sampling» it. The Eggplant Rollatini(my old standby) was as great as ever. Service was great — it wasn’t too crowded(we got there on the early side of 6pm on a Friday night). The wine list could use some updating but if you remember to bring your own — it is suggested(for now anyway). Overall, a happy experience at an old favorite.

Although we are lifelong Rockaway residents, this was our first trip to Tiberios. It certainly won’t be our last. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by Tina, a terrific waitress who explained many of the dishes to our group of 5 and was as accommodating as she could be. She made this a 5 star dining experience for us. Highlights of our meals included linguini and clams, and shrimp francese — delicious. The portions are large — alas, we didn’t have room for the homemade cannolis. Do give this restaurant a try — you’ll love it. But bring cash — no credit cards accepted.

Such a hidden gem. If you don’t live in the area chances are you will not know this restaurant is even here. So good thing this review search website is here. Food is super delicious. Especially the chicken francese. The spaghetti with meat sauce is super yummy too. The bread is always brought hot to the table. Please note that they are closed on Mondays. Thank God today is Tuesday because I am so going there for dinner tonight.

The food was pretty good. The prices were outrageous considering this is a hole in the wall joint and the portions were tiny. I got shrimp far diavlo and it came on a small oval plate with tons of big shrimp but barely any pasta. Isn’t pasta cheap? Why would they skimp on that? The bread is hot and crispy. Yum.

Have been going to Tiberio’s for years. Consistently great. Rudy the owner is a gracious host. Tina, the waitress, is a blast. Was thrilled to see they survived Sandy. They serve the BEST spgahetti with garlic and oil EVER. If they have the snapper special, get it! Amazing. Nothing fancy but definitely worth going. Without a doubt the best food in the Rockaways. They serve wine and beer but have a very reasonable corkage fee so most patrons bring their own wine. Even saw a table last night that brought their own wine glasses — a first for me.

Great food great service. Always good, every time a excellent meal. the pasta is cheesy yummy and broccoli is so good you will never miss the vegetables! my personal favorite is the red snapper. Although all the veal dishes so good it’s hard to choose. After decades of special occasion meals, it’s always a pleasure to visit and have a meal that is memorable.
