Voodoo is not your typical BBQ. If that is what you are looking for, you probably won’t like it here. They do have some really interesting takes on some southern classics like collard greens. They add pulled pork and use some really strong spices. Having lived in Georgia for 5 years I am a fan of pretty much any greens, but most people aren’t. Voodoo’s collard greens however have a much more powerful flavor that would definitely appeal to people how are not usually interested in their southern counterpart. They also have a cornbread pudding which is actually slightly soggy cornbread with extra sweet kernel corn. It’s delicious. I do not like the BBQ sauces. Any of them. The briscuit is really tender and juicy though, so that really made up for it.

It’s OK. Fair value. Pulled pork was fine, but the bread definitely didn’t seem fresh. Gumbo is pretty good — spices are a bit unusual, but tasty. Brisket was very, very dry, so much so that my wife left most of hers. Better choices for BBQ pork and brisket, both, within a few miles.

Took my family here for the first time a couple nights ago. It was not bad. The staff was super friendly, and everything was spotlessly clean. The food was kind of a mixed bag. Depending on what you order, you will either really like this place, or be mildly disappointed. I am a bit of a BBQ snob, and pretty much stick with Rudy’s or the Salt Lick, so when we came here, I ordered a shrimp po boy, and some gumbo. The sandwich was nothing special, but was not bad. The gumbo was good, but was hella spicy. Also I was expecting seafood gumbo, and was a little dismayed to discover it was chicken and sausage. My fault for not asking though. My wife ordered brisket, and said it was really good. I did not sample it, but it looked tender and juicy. I did sample my wife’s sweet potatoes, and they were definitely the highlight of the meal. They mix in brown sugar with them! My wife wants to order our sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving from here now. My five year old had mac and cheese, which was good, but nothing special. Overall, I give this place a solid three star rating. Not a place I would rave about, but I definitely will not gripe if the wife wants to go here again.

I have added an additional star to this place. A friend wanted to eat there and so I did. The extra star is because the ribs really are delicious and tender. I had the mac and cheese again because it was just good. I splurged and ordered the white chocolate bread pudding. I’m a bread pudding fanatic and this was good bread pudding.

My family and I decided to try this place out after hearing good things about it. The staff is really friendly and they are great at describing their dishes. I really loved the sweet potato casserole! My father enjoyed his brisket bbq sandwich and my husband liked his gumbo and chili. With that being said some of the meats and other side dishes were dry or bland. The ribs were really tasty after you peeled off the dry outer shell. My mac n cheese was a little dry which was disheartening. My daughter’s chicken tender plate was so bland. Poor girl left it all there and attacked my ribs instead. Not sure if we will go back but if we do, I’ll be sure to stick to what I know is good and skip out on the dry stuff.

Let me start by saying that I don’t wish Voodoo BBQ any ill will. I’ve spent many years in a cubicle just down the street, and by my reckoning, the little bank of strip center that houses Voodoo might actually be hexed. How else to explain the steady procession of restaurants that have launched to fanfare and breathless signage only to wither and receive the old door printout of shame? Given my established role in the office as a known glutton and Unilocal guy, it often falls to me to suggest a lunch place. Imagine working and eating lunch for 10 years in the same exact block. How many times can a man eat at Zorba’s Greek before his sanity starts to fray and he inwardly roots for austerity? Imagine my relief when a shiny new restaurant appears in the possibly-accursed Walmart strip center. New Orleans style BBQ sounded like an intriguing change of pace and a possible addition to the lunch rotation. Unfortunately, what we found here was not innovative or exciting. It was half-baked franchise food that didn’t really work for us. The BBQ was not in the same league as local spots like Rudy’s, Johnny T’s, or, even Salt Lick. And, the new orleans items were laughable compared to Gumbo’s and Louisiana Longhorn just down the road. Our specific gripes centered on the dry, milquetoast brisket, the smallish portions, and the over-engineered chemical-tasting bbq sauces. The gumbo was insipid. Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play? I really hope Voodoo can beat the bad mojo in that strip center and hang in there. Unfortunately, it will probably be without the support of my lunch group.

I had heard a new restaurant had opened up in Round Rock had a New Orleans BBQ flare so I decided to check it out… Not only was the food excelllent but the atmosphere of the establishment was really nice too. Very open, clean, with a taste of New Orleans. I wish they would show the game here whenever the Saints play… but anyway, I would highly recommend their cajun sausage, collard greens were the best I have tasted in Texas, and sweet potato casserole. I still don’t think that people in the SW know what pulled pork is but it was close enough here… Good Job VooDoo!

Southeastern food palates, rejoice! First of all, I’ve been disappointed with ALL of the BBQ around this area. They are more focused on briskets and pinto beans. I’m used to good BBQSAUCES and baked beans smothered in BBQSAUCE! Pulled pork is where it’s at. Anyway, coming to Voodoo(Louisiana-influence) was a breath of fresh air. This place has awesome sauce(three different kinds) and awesome sides. I loved their corn pudding(mashed up mexican cornbread, basically). Recently I ordered the jerk chicken(strange to carry this at a BBQ place), which was in. cred. i. ble! The staff was extra nice and helpful. I will definitely be coming back, because it was well-priced, also. Five stars.

This was our first visit and we will definitely be back. My husband and I each got the baked potato with brisket and we loved them. Not as big as the ones at Pappas in Houston but the brisket was made the way I like it! My kids got the chicken tenders and they both finished them with out any fuss! Which in my book is an A+…because all of us parents know that we hate when kids waste food. I enjoyed the atmosphere Never been to New Orleans so I can’t compare it to much other then my fav Cajun restaurant Razoo’s. We also brought home some of the chile and gumbo… needless to say my greedy husband ate them both while only offering me a sample as he gulped them down before I could get another sample. Greedy ass… But what I did taste, I enjoyed… thank you!!!

Went here for the second time today at lunch. Went there with the intention of getting ribs(that’s what I had a craving for), ended up getting a Shrimp PoBoy since the ribs only came on full dinner plates and I wasn’t that hungry. Shrimp PoBoy came out about 5 to 6 minutes after others at my table received thier food. Partially understandable since the shrimp were deep fried. Sandwich was completely dry(no sauce) with just shrimp, lettuce and tomatoes. Bread was very unimpressive. I’ve had many PoBoys in the past and know that typically a french style baguette is used. This bread was something closer to cheap sandwich roll you would find at a grocery store. PoBoy had too much bread and not enough shrimp. After adding condiments and taking my first bite, still too dry. I ended up scooping out most of the bread just so I could taste the ingredients. Service was good, staff is always friendly and willing to get you refills or take away your used plates. Long story short, better bread and quicker service would have made this a much better experience. Still plan on coming back another time and trying out some other menu items.

This was my first visit to Voodoo BBQ. Yeah, it’s a chain but I can’t really hold that against them. All in all, I can add them to my rotation of BBQ places. They’re not my new #1, but they should do okay as a ‘consistent food’ option. PLACE/DECOR The place is roomy with mostly 4-tops(seats about 80 total) and kept very clean. I noticed several families there; both high chairs and booster seats are available. They also have Crayons for the kids while you wait. Three(3) TVs give you something to watch(as applicable); the volume is turned off. FOOD&DRINK I opted for a plate which included brisket, beans, and corn pudding. The brisket was a bit fatty — more so than it should be(generally speaking). But, I can’t say that it’ll always be this way — could change often based on their meat supplier, the cut, etc. So I don’t hold it against them too much; certainly not for a first visit. The Rattlesnake Beans(e.g. baked beans) were quite flavorful. They also had a pretty good kick … a little spice/heat if you will. The corn pudding was very tasty — definitely a favorite with me. I could eat it as dessert. As for the BBQ sauces, they have three(3) which are kept on each table. The Cane Vinegar ‘tangy’ sauce was just way too much vinegar for me to find the tangy part. The Mango Crystal ‘spicy’ sauce was okay — looked a little runny compared to most thicker sauces … and I didn’t really find it too spicy(which was odd). Their main Mojo Sauce(New Orleans Style) was definitely my favorite. It’s much more in line with most sauces you’ll find at BBQ joints. They have one of the new Coca-Cola Freestyle machines so that everyone gets what they want. I think there are something like 125+/- customizable drinks out of these things. This a big plus when you want something a bit different from the norm. I went with their sweetened tea which I found to be one of best I’ve tasted. The poboy sandwiches I saw at other tables looked quite good. I’ll definitely have to try one of those next time. As for the menu, it’s got a good variety to it. Pricing is in line with other establishments … even though I still find them all to be a little too expensive. I guess I’m still not adjusting to inflation, etc. over the years. My brisket plate with two(2) sides and a drink came to just under $ 12. They also serve beer … mmmm, beer. STAFF The staff here were all very friendly and accommodating. They proactively ask if you’ve been there and do a really good job of explaining the menu, how certain items are prepared, etc. I was thoroughly impressed by their knowledge and attitude. They make an effort to come around the room and make sure you’re doing okay, asking if you need anything, etc. They gave just the right amount of customer service — informative, helpful, positive about their work, and not too pushy. My only complaint would be the greeting upon entering. Even though you’re 40ft from the counter, one or more will greet you with a «Hi, welcome to Voodoo’s» from across the room. Honestly, that could be done much closer to the counter to avoid having the entire dining area hear it. Same goes for when you leave as I heard them thank a couple of groups(from across the room) as they were leaving. But, all in all that’s just a very minor negative compared to the rest of their service.

Don’t be confused: Voodoo seems to be trying there damnedest to get it right. Everyone here is so super friendly, it was almost a turn off for me. I used to work for a place that made us yell WELCOME at customers the moment they walked in the door, always make ourselves look busy, and be so nice it’s uncomfortable. It really depends on what type of person you are, but it borders on irritating at Voodoo, for me. Nothing against the workers, that’s purely a management decision. Speaking of, the management was very visible & open to suggestions, and one even got my boyfriend water! The HUGE problem is, the food isn’t great. It’s food. I had a Voodoo burger that said it had grilled mushrooms & onions on it. The onions were basically steamed and I got three little mushrooms. I wouldn’t normally be such a whiner about toppings, but you pay a lot extra for it! The burger was better than fast food and well cooked, just nothing special. My boyfriend got ribs & brisket which he liked, but did mention that we could basically drive 10 minutes in any direction to get better & cheaper. That’s the overall problem. I could go to Salt Lick or Rudy’s or even Chili’s(for the burger), get the same level of service, better food, and pay less. I have to say though, the sides are great! I got corn pudding which was super. If I had to go back, I would stick with the sides plate that is only $ 6& skip the meat. So, they get 2 stars for dedicated service & sides.

I went in with low expectations, any BBQ place with things like burgers on the menu have typically disappointed me so I decided to give them a week before trying them out. I found upon pulling up to this place the proper smell of meat smoking away which is always a good sign. Inside the restaurant is super clean and the help super friendly and eager to provide samples. I had the brisket and turkey plate with sweet potato soufflé and corn pudding. Brisket — good smoke flavor, decent crust, had a few bites of lean and fatty, was better than I was expecting. Turkey — moist, well seasoned, good piece of meat, not one of those composite turkeys someplace try to pull off — another good sign. And then it got interesting. Corn pudding — I found I really liked their sides and I typically never order sides with my BBQ — just a 3 meat plate person but I am glad I did, this was great. Sweet potato soufflé — wow, I really liked this a lot. If you are a fan of the sweet potatoes at Salt Grass, do yourself a favor and try this. It can’t possibly be healthy but it went well with brisket and turkey. Top it off with the Coke drink mix master machine and I think this place is a winner. Excellent service, tasty food, clean. I really like that they are a bit different than our typical BBQ place(check my list, I’ve been to quite a few). They were busy for lunch and I can see why. Only suggestion is to provide a 3 meat sampler plate or the ability to buy ribs less than a half rack — I wanted to try their ribs but I just wanted one or two. They don’t sell meat by the pound like everywhere else so that was an adjustment. I tried the 3 sauces and they did nothing for me, well the regular sauce was ok but the spicy and vinegar sauces I didn’t care for but I rarely use sauce so not a big deal and I’m glad they have more than one. I will be returning to sample more of the menu for sure.

First, the only reason they received a 1 is because of the wonderful service and great people working there, however the food on the other hand was quite generic. There are way too many good bbq places in Texas to even try this. It was like«fast food bbq» and the«smoke» that you smell MUST be a liquid smoke as it didn’t seem like there were any real grills or smokers nearby. The bbq sauce is lacking. Good luck to them, but bringing a chain bbq restaurant to Texas, seems to be a big no-no to me. P. S. I had the pulled pork, fries and macaroni and cheese and my husband had brisket, turkey, potato salad and corn pudding. The corn pudding was decent but the rest was bland.

VooDoo BBQ& Grill When you walk into VooDoo BBQ& Grill your immediately welcomed with«WELCOMETOVOODO!» You walk to the back of the room where the menu is on the wall, and a iced case of beer is next to the register; if you’ve never been there before your given a card with the menu on it; you can asks for tastings if you like; order you food — take a number and sit down and your food will be brought out to you very quickly. Now I happened to see VooDoo BBQ& Grill when I was doing a restaurant search near my work — I work as a Contractor at Dell, which is down the block from this place. So I texted my girlfriend and said«VooDoo BBQ& Grils, Friday?» Well the answer is yes! My girlfriend had the 1⁄3 Rack of St. Louis Style BBQ Pork Ribs($ 10.99) with Corn Pudding and Sweet Potato Soufflé(Sides are $ 2.49 each) and a soda(they have one of those 100 types of soft drink machines which is self-serve). I ordered the Full Rack($ 22.99) with Rattlesnake Beans and Mambo Gumbo and a soda. The ribs were huge and meaty and just perfect pull off the bone. Sides were very, very good — got to try to Gumbo people!!! Now I will warn you — everything comes out on black plastic plates etc. — not fancy. Sauces on the table are Mojo Sauce — which is their«New Orleans Spin on traditional BBQ Sauce with Louisana Cane Sugar, spices and a hint of Magic.» Next is the Mango Crystal Sauce — which is a Spciy BBQ Sauce made with Louisiana’s Own Crystal Hot Sauce.” And it is spicy! Then finely the Cane Vinegar Sauce — which is a «Louisiana kick to a tangy Carolina-style sauce to give it a bit of magic.» Now I ordered the Full Rack because I love St. Louis Style Ribs and I wanted some to take home with me for dinner the next night. I also grew up on Hans BBQ in Oklahoma City and their sauce was a vinegar sauce in regular and spicy — I miss their sauce and BBQ as the place closed down in 1999 after being open 75 years. My girlfriend went back and ordered the White Chocolate Bread Pudding($ 3.49) to take home with her, but she had to taste — she gave it 5 starts. Now take a look at their menu — BBQ&POBO Sandwiches, Salads, Stuffed Potatoes, BBQ Plates, Burgers & Chicken, Kids Magic Meals, Sides, Bulk items — they Cater too. When I find a place I like — I will write a review — and I will tell all my friends about it — I’ve just finishing this review that your reading and I told about 10 people about VooDoo’s on Sunday. I will be back — after all it right down the block from where I work and it on my route home.

Gumbo as a side is a nice option. Unfortunately it was the best part of the meal. You can’t get ribs for less than $ 10.50 for a third of a rack. The only combo with ribs is with chicken for $ 17. I bought 1⁄3 rack + ¼ lb brisket + drink = $ 18 Brisket was dry. Fries were out of a bag. Ribs were not sliced and served with plastic fork and knife. Worst part was they were near impossible to cut because the membrane on the back wasn’t removed. I removed it myself at the table and gave it to the chef that stopped by the table and he seemed shocked I even knew what it was. In central Texas there are dozens of places that are better. Hell in round rock there are chains that serve better BBQ. I may go back to try their BBQ shrimp or a cup of gumbo on a cold day but I’ll leave the BBQ to the experts east of downtown or in Lockhart.
