The more I think about it, the more upset I get at myself for not just walking out. Lunch special burrito plate for $ 9, rice, beans and a burrito — the burrito was a hanfdul of carne asada(sans the asada flavor) wrapped in a tortilla. That’s it.

We got there at about 4:30, we already knew what we want so we ordered within the first 5 minutes of our visit. We ordered and appetizer of sofritas(rice and cheese) and it took them 50 minutes to get us out appetizer. And then 5 minutes later brought out our food. The food wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t bad. My food wasn’t even that hot, so I do not understand why it took them an hour to get it out. I only ordered enchiladas(the ones that only have chicken in them) and my boyfriend ordered a hamburger. The whole time our server was visiting with regulars. Just not happy with our experience.

So, my co-worker and i went to this place because its a hop skip and jump from where we work. I will say the service was fast and the waitresses were nice. However all of that was overshadowed by the terrible and unsatisfying meal. I ordered tacos and not only were they an odd size, but one of the taco shells was soggy with oil and not cooked through. The meat(chicken and carnitas) was very bland and there was nothing really delicious about it. I would not recommend coming here. I know i will not be going back. Very. disappointed.

Slow service and small portions for average prices. Our group of 3 people had to wait 45 min for a burrito, breakfast dish and shrimp dish. There were 6 other tables, but still 45 minutes is way too long. We won’t be back.

I have been a loyal fan of this restaurant from there old location near the 99 cent store now to the new location. The food is great from the chicken taco, tamales, carnitas and of course my favorite strawberry margarita. I have had several birthday parties here and the servers is always great.

This mex restaurant has some good tasting food. The service is ok. They seem to not believe in running ac in the place though and I tend to hey over heated a little sitting inside. Although I do truly love the Mexican restaurant that took over their old location. I forget the name of it but compared to this one, the new place in the old location is the bomb and much better & quicker service

We came in with an entertainment book coupon for buy one, get one free. We told our server about he coupon, showed it to her with this exact address and only received the response of ‘I can not accept that.’ When asked to speak to a manager, we were refused. Had we not already finished our meal, we would’ve went elsewhere. Why advertise a coupon when you can’t use it?! We will NOT be returning for mediocre food and even worse service.

One of three locations, this 524 has great service, above average well-prepared food and an upscale décor. The chips are large and crispy; they are served with a hot red salsa and a freshly made pico de gallo. Their signature tomato and pasta soup is a very nice included feature of the lunch. The burrito and the enchilada were each served with beans, rice and lettuce. The quality was good and the price and portion size were just right for lunch. This is an established quality Mexican restaurant that delivers a good meal at a reasonable price.

Idk how this place is still open. The food is so below average. I got a burrito lunch special with rice and beans i swear that it tasted like a microwave heat up meal you but at the freezer section of the grocery store. It was severely over priced. I have had better Mexican food practically anywhere else. It makes it worse that they are located in Northgate which has many Mexican food hot spots so pass this place up.

My fiancé got a To Go order here yesterday. It was okay overall. We had a quesadilla chicken and chicken nachos. The salsa is good but overall flavor of the rest was lacking a little umph for my usual taste in Mexican food. Also the total was a little pricey for my taste. Alright so after those complaints I will say that I liked the salsa a lot and the location is great because there is mostly fast food joints right here. It’s close to my work so I will give them another try and order something different. :)

Poor Service, bland food, I won’t be back. Almost all the food(chicken enchiladas, beef enchiladas and a beef taco) ended up being dog food. My family and I went for burgers and ice cream afterwards.

First I’ll say that I did not eat here. Today I was unfortunate enough to witness a horrid situation while dining nearby… There was a sweet elderly couple eating at 524 and when finished with their meal the woman was unable to move her legs in order to get up and walk. Sadly the ambulance had to be called and we watched and offered help but could not do anything. She was devastated and crying and after all this the waiter ran after them for payment on their meal — while this poor woman was crying and beside herself! My first response was to get my wallet and pay for their meal but by the time I got money and came back the elderly man had already paid. The restaurant did nothing to assist this couple but treat them like a nuisance!

I started going to the 524 when I was a kid. My parent’s would order take out, and soon the family knew us as regulars. I distinctly remember how great their Mexican food was, and sneaking into the kitchen in the middle of the night to eat whatever chips were left over(they always gave you so many). Eventually I moved away, and in that time, the 524 moved too. Last week I was craving some tasty Mexican food and Unilocaled their newer location. Even though I had heard there were changes besides the location, I still wanted to see it for myself. So happy I did. Nearly everything I tasted was almost the same. Their two salsas were spicy, flavorful and addicting. I tried not to load up on too many chips, because I knew I had a taco and enchilada awaiting me, but I couldn’t help myself. Biting into the taco and enchilada brought back fantastic dinner memories from childhood. The sauces seemed nearly identical and completely satisfying. The chips have changed, but are still good. I believe the restaurant is still family owned, and they seem to have a loyal following. Throughout my dinner, the restaurant started filling up. There isn’t a big staff, so expect a bit of a wait for your check. Besides that, the dinner came out quickly and my experience was really fantastic.

I don’t enjoy posting a negative review about a restaurant but this place leaves me no choice. When I walked in there wasn’t anyone at the front counter so I grabbed a menu so I could look it over before deciding if I wanted to eat here. A middle aged woman came up and assumed I wanted to order food to go. I explained to here that I wanted a few minutes to look over the menu so I could decide if I wanted to eat there at all. She just stood there staring at me, making me feel very uncomfortable. I wish I had left but I told her I would eat there. The lady told me to sit anywhere. She came back and took my order which was a 3 item combo meal: a chicken & beef taco, and a cheese enchilada. She came back with some chips and salsa and my drink minus a straw but she went away so quicky I didn’t even have a chance to ask for a straw. This lady seemed very jaded and it was obvious to me she did not want to be there. Their salsa was below average, I have had much better. Nobody came by to check up on me until a younger girl dropped off my food and she quickly left so again I didn’t get a chance to ask for a straw. I unwrapped the napkin that was around my utensils and found some kind of food stain on the inside that would have been touching the utensils. It concerned me that this might have been on my utensils but nobody ever came back to check up on me and by this time my drink was empty. Time for the food. There was no indication on their menu that the tacos that I ordered would be crispy. In fact most Mexican restaurants I have eaten at overwhelming serve a soft taco. These were crispy. The chicken taco was very bland and over cooked. I asked for a shredded beef taco but was served a ground beef taco which I could have made better at home. The Spanish rice was bland and tasted like it had been sitting around for awhile and the beans tasted burnt. The cheese enchilada was uneventful, the sauce tasted like it came out of a can, and I could have made much better myself. Where they aware of any of my problems? No, because they never came back to my table to check up on me. It shouldn’t be my job to chase them down to complain about my meal, ask for a straw, ask for a refill, ask for a clean napkin or utensils. If I wanted to do any if that I would have eaten at home. The next time anybody stopped by my table was to drop off my check. I do not understand why they have do many good reviews unless they were having a very bad day for some reason but it really doesn’t matter both their service and food were very bad. My advice is to stay away from this place as I will never stop in again.

If you love authentic Mexican food, You will love 524. I had the Carnitas and they were perfect. I think the cut of meat they were made from could have been«side meat», pork of course. When they crisp them up it adds a nice flavour. I will definitely eat here again. I think it was a very reasonable price, $ 16.82, and that includes the tip. It was lunch so I only had water. But no kidding, I would recommend the water. It was perfect on this 100 degree day.

We came here on my boyfriend’s birthday after a failed attempt at Mizu(they were closed for no particular reason). It was late and we had had a pretty crappy day at this point, not to mention we were hungry as hell. We showed up at about 8:40pm, and they happily seated us: 2 starving adults and 3 famished kids. Dora was our waitress, and she was super friendly and attentive. We ordered quickly and they brought our food out pretty fast as well. She talked with us a bit here and there, as they were just about closed and we were the only people in the restaurant. Dinner was good, not fantastic. My carnitas were good, and I’ll say, the soup is killer. I could’ve eaten three more bowls. A bit after 9, three men came in, even though the restaurant was closed. Dora reassured them that it was fine, and happily helped them as well. Good job, never turn away a hungry customer! When my bf went to the bathroom, I told Dora that is was his birthday, and asked if maybe they had a sundae or something they could bring out. What she brought was INSANE. Vanilla ice cream surrounded by bunelos and cream-filled churros, all topped with cinnamon sugar, hot fudge, and caramel. It was HUGE and we ate every bite. I expected to see it on our bill, which I was totally fine with, but they didn’t charge us. Prices are very reasonable, we all ate and were full for about $ 40. I will definitely come here again. The food is good and inexpensive, and the service takes it over the top. Very friendly, very flexible and accommodating. Reminded me of the people I would meet when I lived in Mexico. Glad we stopped into this restaurant, and they ended my boyfriend’s birthday on a high note. :)
