I missed a UPS package at home and got a note to pick it up here. What the fuck? A convenience store? Yup.

This is a nice little market, good for grabbing something quick if you live nearby. They have everything you’d expect to find… beer, cigs, ice cream, food items with long shelf lives, etc. Like other reviewers have mentioned, you should probably check the expiration date on any dairy items before buying them. One thing I don’t like, the sign outside says«fresh sandwiches.» This is total BS. No fresh sandwiches to be found here.

I have lived across the street over a year and trusted this place despite the continued returns of expired food so here’s what happened… Over a year I have incurred 3 different times(other than myself) were im waiting in line And the person in front of me was returning something expired… lol crazy Right? So check it out, the candy is always powdery and smells of mildew you can tell its old. but even know I tell him they just don’t care, like were talking a health hazard HERE ! so I’m no longer coming here I’ll go across the street to freedom, i said something to the guy who always weres a hat(younger Indian guy) and he just said go across street lol he was mad I called him out on having the old food and products . So basically coming from someone who lives across the street witnessing multiple occasions of OLDEXPIREDFOOD, I’m just done with this place go across the street they are more respectful and don’t have any expired food Lol think I’m joking ? I GUARANTEEYOUWILLFINDEXPIREDFOODORCANDYGOLOOKFORYOURSELF ! PROVEMEWRONG ! or read some of the other reviews for this place I bet you will see a 1 star concerning expired products !

American Market is okay. It isn’t outstanding or the best corner shop I’ve ever visited. Reading the reviews prior to checking it out made it seem as though some celestial being crafted a liquor store in its image and we were to be its devout followers. So it was somewhat of a disappointment when I bought some basic dairy products and found them to be WAY outdated. I mean, like… a week or so. I’ve also bought my fair share of flat or outdated beverages as well. American Market is good for some standard beer selections — the prices aren’t too high and there is a decent mix of cheap-o drinks and more standard fare(Lagunitas in particular). There is a lot of wine to choose from too. The foodstuffs onhand are actually pretty varied, with a lot of canned goods and other dry foods to choose from. It’s a good spot for last-minute meals if you live closely, but again seeing as so much of the product isn’t priced I’m usually wary to make a big purchase as I need to check on 15 items before throwing money down. There is also cold drinks, cigarettes, and other regular corner store items. The rotating staff behind the counter are always polite and the shop keeps hours that are conducive to my weird sleeping habits, the store interior is a bit ramshackle but I don’t necessarily think it’s dirty inside, just… in need of some new everything. So it’s good in a pinch for certain items but be wary when grabbing anything from the fridge units — check dates first.

This is one of the top 3 markets in midtown. Much cleaner, better service and better selection than most. If they don’t have something you want, they can order it for you for the next time you come in. Carefully though sometimes it gets lost in translation, a Sierra Nevada Oatmeal Stout came back as a Sam Adams pumpkin something or other… Sing is the guy that runs it. He has a great personality and is always very friendly and helpful. He makes me feel at home whenever I stop in.

I stopped by on my way to work to get a strawberry milk and when I got to work it didn’t taste right so I checked the expiration and it had expired almost 6 months ago. I went back to the store to show them and almost all of them where expired and they didn’t even care. I will never shop there again.

American Market is basically a carbon copy of the market directly across the street. The only difference is that American is perhaps a bit cleaner, but otherwise they are virtually the same. I pop in to both now and then for odds and ends with no special preference between the two. I suppose a persons preference can be dictated by, more than anything, the direction they are coming from or side of the street they live on. The real mystery here is why two almost identical markets opened across the street from one another in what seems to be a low-traffic residential neighborhood. I love the«Mom and pop» corner store shop, so you won’t hear me complain.

My boyfriend used to live around the corner, and for the ~1 year that he lived there, he(and I) exclusively frequented this place. The friendliness of the employees completely outshines that of the place across the street. Like others have said before, the employees are top notch and extremely friendly. They never fail to ask how your day is going or what your plans are for the weekend. The BF and I actually came in together so frequently(to get energy drinks for fuel, 6 packs to bring to shindigs, or Pepto when we out hot-sauced ourselves), they would ask where I was when my BF came in without me, and vice versa. They are pretty well stocked in everything from baking supplies, to the obligatory drunchie snacks, to allergy meds/pain killers/antacids. Now that he lives in East Sac, my boyfriend STILL often comes to American Market for his energy drinks! This place is really great, one of my favorite corner stores ever.

I love this place. The service is amazing, the employees are both great. Very personable, friendly and will quickly learn your name, your story and your regular items. Definitely a great stop for my morning diet pepsi and I cannot say enough about how amazing the service is.

Oh, man talk about service. I live a few blocks away from here so I stop by nearly every day. There are two employees Rocki, and Ravi and both of them will quickly learn your names and your regular items. They couldn’t be friendlier; they ask me about work and my wife every time I see them. And after you’ve built up a report with them, they pay no mind to spotting you the change or couple dollars you’re short and paying them back the next day. As far as liquor stores go, they’ve got the basic fare thought I don’t know if they carry hard liquor, I don’t drink so I don’t pay attention. They do for sure have a variety of beer and wine. They have a small grocery section with simple staples like tortillas, bread, butter, canned foods frozen food as well as cereal, baking stuff, cookies and candy. One of the big high lights are the items of seasonal needs. In the winter they have stylish hats and hats. They have loads of new and fancy sunglasses which you’ll see more of in the winter. I can’t recommend this place enough, having visited their competition across the street, I can tell you that American market stands head and shoulders above it.

I don’t see most«corner stores» as anything other than dust-collecting, alcohol shops but THIS store is different. The two guys that work there are awesome and know me by name(no, i don’t go there THAT often) and are very polite. The small store has pretty much everything you need in a pinch: cereal, limes for your corona, mini burritos, and the pretend gourmet frozen pasta in a bag. 2 essential others, an entire wine wall, variety of cold beers and liquor and the largest Ben & Jerry’s freezer i’ve ever seen. they literally have every flavor! american market is open much later then Fremont Market across the street and the attitude is always warm and pleasant. Awesome shop. Go there

No ‘diet’ drinks like G2 or Powerade Zero. But a good Mexi-pop selection.
