My wife and I are new to Sacramento and needed to do some exploring to find a local place. Our first time here was earlier in the day and we sat at the bar and had the highly acclaimed rice. It was good. Not amazing, but good. The bartender was friendly and shook dice with regulars for shots, which worried me at first, but he maintained very well. Our second visit and likely last happened later in the evening on another day. Our bartender this time was a ball of negativity. He continued to talk poorly about his recently dissolved bartending job at a near by bar, which only made me want to go to that bar. Really? I go out to grab a beer to relax and enjoy, not to hear the problems of some kid that obviously has some personal problems. The lawyer in me wanted to know who he was talking so poorly about and defend them.

How could I have not hung out here more all these years? Chargin’s looks like just another East Sac dive bar, but it’s so much more(tongue in cheek). From the antlers hanging proudly on the wall to the BREAKFASTSIXDAYS/WEEK, ALLDAY, to the eye-crossing bloody Marys, Frank’s fried rice with linguica and eggs, Tommy G’s omelet with linguica, spinach and hash browns, decent burger, surprisingly clean inside, no sour smell, babies and soccer families on the weekends, holiday times so loud you can barely hear yourself, Cindy, Chris and Al, you just gotta get in here and watch some football on a weekend. And get some of that linguica.

We have been here twice. I don’t really recall the first Stine we were here from several years ago so we figured that we must not have hated it or we would have remembered that and we must not have LOVED it or we would have been back much sooner. So basically we decided to give it another shot. It was fairly slow when we went. It’s very casual in there but all of the other groups around us seemed to be very loud. The people at the bar kept to themselves and were quiet but the tables around us kept a pretty high volume the whole time. I ordered the ham and cheese omelet with hash browns and no toast since they don’t have a gluten-free option. My husband ordered the new York steak and eggs with hash browns and toast. It seemed to come out pretty quickly since it wasn’t that busy and looked pretty great when it came out. Unfortunately both of our meals tasted liked they were cooked with dirty old oil or on a very dirty grill. Everything was cooked to order but unfortunately it had that awful dirty oil taste and even after dumping ketchup all over my hash browns(which I rarely do) I could still taste the burnt oil. Icky! Hopefully it was just a one off thing, maybe they had a breakfast rush before us and hadn’t gotten to cleaning the grill off. We got there around noon so hopefully that’s what happened.

Today was my very first visit to Chargin’s and I will be back. I opted, like most others, for the Frank’s Special with a fried egg on top. I added just a bit of soy sauce and a nice amount of Sriracha to the top for added flavor. It is friend rice on crack and full of yumminess. The portion is very good sized. I opted to eat half there and take the other half home.

Worst bar I have ever been to. Here for 30 mins couldn’t get one drink and then asked for a drink and the bartender said sorry I’m closing tabs out

Franks Fried Rice. Thats all you need to know. Ok, I exaggerate. They have a pretty good breakfast and lunch menu but I almost ALWAYS get the Franks Fried Rice. Cool neighborhood bar, much cleaner than the other close by bars. Cool bartenders and a local vibe. Great place to watch sunday football. They have the ticket. They get all the games. The food service and bar service is great. If you are in East Sac, come here on a saturday or sunday for brunch!

Breakfast food is 2 stars. Drinks are 3 stars. 4 stars for the early hours great for people coming off night shift to grab a drink and some food before heading home. I don’t find the fried rice as interesting as many others. It’s mostly just rice, soy sauce and a few slices of Chinese sausage without much else. The chicken fried steak is skinny and dry. Eggs and hash brown are average. Best thing is the low key atmosphere and friendly staff in this place to relax after working nights

Frank’s fried rice is amazing. The bloody marys are clutch. Al is a sweetheart. Great neighborhood spot. I’ll have to come back and really check out the bar. Came for the food this time, and was not disappointed.

Neither the food nor the service was very impressive. Me and my boyfriend were meeting another couple for Saturday breakfast. We walked in and the 2 male employees behind the bar looked up but didn’t greet us, and no one was at the host station. Definitely didn’t feel too welcome, especially when I noticed that everyone coming in after us got a greeting from behind the bar. A smiling Asian female came out and said we could sit anywhere we wanted. I felt a little more at ease after she greeted us. We looked over the worn out and dirty menus, and once I saw«Frank’s Special Fried Rice,» I knew what I wanted. I ordered coffee but had to flag down our server for more refills, even though she and the other Asian male staff had literally walked by our table at least 4 times with a coffee pot in hand, asking every table around us if they wanted more coffee. What was up with that!!! I really felt like they were catering to the«regulars» and those they knew –or assumed– were from their East Sac neighborhood. Started to not feel welcomed again. Our friends arrived and we ordered right away. Three fried rice specials and a biscuits and gravy for the one allergic to shellfish(fried rice comes with shrimp). We got our food and dug in. My over easy eggs were perfectly cooked. I thought the rice was flavorful, had a lot of meat and veggies in it, but was way too oily. And where was the shrimp? Nobody had any shrimp in their fried rice. We asked our server about it and she said«sometimes they run out of shrimp.» You think maybe she should’ve mentioned that when we ordered it and then checked with the cook? Meh. I’ve experienced better.

The fried rice is really good– especially after a night out. Can’t argue with everyone else’s assessment and the folks there in the morning are interesting. Some hangover kids streaming in and some large families with kids who knew the owner. Kind of a neat place, parking is hard to get on the side if the lot is full but the food is well worth the wait. Price is competitive for sure. Not the cleanest place but c’mon it’s a dive bar.

Just for the bar! Will be back to eat another time. The review is mostly for the bartender and service we had while there. I had never been there before. We were welcomed and when I asked about coffee alcohol drinks, barkeep was right there with several options without hesitation. He made me a great coffee keoke. it was large and in charge! We sat at the bar, but lots of table behind us. Not may people there, but we were visiting early evening on a weeknight. TV’s on with various sports on. I asked the barkeep if I could have the TV in front of me to show the Kings game, he was like Alright! Yeah… of course! Started talking to him about how alcohol comes and goes in trends. he scraped up some Goldschlager for me since my friend never had it and poured us a big glass! We had fun and we will be back to eat and drink!

Best place to go for breakfast. Service, food and price are excellent. Every time my husband and I stop by for breakfast, the waiter know exactly what my husband wants. As for me, I always pick something different.

This is a bar that is nice and dark. Visited after a particularly tough day at work. It was 2pm and I was starving. The bartender advised the grill closed at 2pm. He was nice enough to go back and check and the cook was ok with one more order. I was very grateful. Ordered the«Ultimate Chargin Burger» it comes with bacon and avocado and the standard LTOP. It is a big burger and cooked to well. The burger was 3 star but the service was 5. Thank you Chargin’s for making that day a little better.

Right or wrong, I consider this as more of a Grill than Bar. But as a grill, it’s awesome — one of my favorite lunch spots! Basically, it’s a bar with an elevated area with tables and the reality is that what you’re ordering is kind of greasy bar food, but it’s awesomely delicious greasy bar food — the kind that punches you in the head and settles blissfully in the gut. My go-to dish is the Frank’s Special — a giant platter of fried rice and every type of meat mixed into it. You get the sleepys after you eat it, but it’s worth it. The décor is pretty nice — it’s a beautiful green, with creepy old skulls and antlers on the walls. They have a ton of TVs and that seems to be new — in fact, I’m seeing TVs all over the bars in the area — to the point where I wonder if there’s a door-to-door TV salesperson wandering the neighborhood selling TVs. Surely, when you go out of doors, you should be done watching your programs, but who am I to judge?

A few friends and myself decided to ride our bikes downtown and have breakfast here. Um, let’s just say. NOTIMPRESSED. First off, there isn’t any place to leave and lock up our bikes… we figured out a way to attach our bikes altogether in the back. Not really a big deal… we figured it out. BUT As far as the food… How do I even begin to explain the kind of breakfast that is served here… The only way I can explain it by drawing you a picture… Okay, well let’s pretend you’re 21, out with your friends and the bars have just closed. It’s 2:00 a.m., you’re hungry and the only place that’s open is the local Denny’s. Expectations aren’t very high, since 1) well, since it’s 2:00 am, do real chefs work at 2:00 am? I think not. and 2) it’s DENNYS. The plate of half cooked, watery eggs with over buttered toast is the kind of breakfast you would HOPE to receive when coming to Chargins on a Saturday morning. If for some reason you decide to come here, stay on the safe side and just order the eggs and bacon. DONOTGETADVENTROUSHERE. I know the corn beef hash might sound appetizing at the time, but your stomach will not be happy with you later.
