I love how I booked my appointment on Unilocal it was so convenient! I made an appointment with Dominique after seeing the great job he did with two of my friends. I asked his recommendation for a hair style considering my fine virgin hair… meaning no chemicals. He understood my expectations and wanted to help me reach my goal for longer, fuller hair. He educated me on how he would cut to help my hair to look more full and offered style options. I trusted him to do his magic. I changed, had a hot tea, and felt at ease as he walked me through the entire cut and style educating me all the while. I rebooked with him but didn’t write this review immediately because my hair never looks as good as when I walk out of the Salon. It has been 5 good hair days since and I’ve found the cut made my hair easier style as it looks good no matter what I do to it. Thank you Dominique for my new look I love it!

I have Curley hair and no trust when it comes to my hairdresser but then I met Dominique what an adventure it was for me I was so comfortable due to his knowledge he has told me thinks about hair I have never heard before it was so interesting the service from the time that I walked in which I was greeted with friendly smiles and got offered coffee or tee then Dominique greeted me with his friendly smile and his awesome French accent. As I am drinking my tee I am being educated and what his ideas are for my new style long story short i had a totally new look and loved it so much I went to a party that same night and already 3 friends that want to have the pleasure to see him. Thank you Dominique it was a pleasure.

Rachel Dee is the best stylist and color expert! She takes the entire person and personality into account when styling your hair. She has an intuition about people and sees their inner beauty. If you are lost with your current stylist come see Rachel Dee!!!

I came to Colors without a picture. I trusted Dean to do what ever he wanted. What I liked about Dean was that he went beyond the conventional cut. He shaped my hair to my face.
Since I’m growing out my grey hair, Dean was able to cut my hair in a way that my gray blended in.
Dominique used his magic with a touch of high lights to brighten my look!
I’ve went to at least 6 different salons on Unilocal (4 – 5 stars) in the midtown area. Even with a photo I was disappointed.

I have been looking for a good hairdresser for YEARS! I have mixed hair and it is very difficult to find someone who understands my type of hair. 3 years ago I was referred to found Dominique and it changed my life! He really understood me and my hair. Anything he did made my hair look like gold :) So, Dominique cut my hair for about a year — my hair was recovering from a horrible haircut. Dominique was very patient and understanding with me. Fastfoward 3 years and two kids!!! I found Dominique again at Colors! I wanted/​needed something amazing, different, and bold. My curly hair was long (middle of my back) and lifeless. I asked him to fix it and he did! I came out with a short, flirty, and manageable cut that I ABSOLUTELY LOVE!
I also really enjoyed the ambiance of the salon — very welcoming and sassy. Everyone spoke to you and were interested in what you were doing to your hair. This place is heaven and Dominique is the angel! Love it!

Had my hair cut by Tari. The cut is beyond awful. Fuzzy, ugly, unflattering, too short, and not anything that I asked for. She talks too much and is very opinionated. I will never go back.

My stylist is Amanda and she’s awesome! People have asked if my color is natural, and it so isn’t! The salon is clean, and the staff is friendly. I have been coming here for about a year.

A friend of mine had her hair done several times at this shop, and each time she looked like a million bucks. I asked her which stylist she went to and decided to make an appointment for myself. I booked an appointment with the stylist, Darby. When I arrived I was cheerfully greeted, and offered a beverage. Darby introduced herself, then gave me a client intake form to complete-​I was very impressed with the questions that were asked about the services I was seeking, frequency of haircuts and color, styling preferences, amount of time I spent on my styling routine, and other pertinent information that ensured my needs were met. I was given an awesome scalp massage during the wash and conditioning treatment. A significant amount of time was spent ensuring I received a precision cut and an equal amount of care and attention given to the styling. The price was reasonable and the customer service was exceptional. If you are looking for a place that will give you the time, attention, and professional hair care services-​this is the place for you! I definitely will return!

Great place! Amanda is phenomenal and they provide great customer service. When I look around I see awesome work by the other stylists as well so it’s fair to say I can recommend all of them. My hair is hard to cut; there’s tons of it and it’s curly in some places and wavy in others. Amanda has given me the best cuts I’ve had in years. My hair still looks great when it’s time for another cut. Highly recommended!

I had such a great first-​time experience with this salon. I made an appointment for a consultation, which I thought would only take maybe 10 minutes, but Dean spent quality time talking to me about what I was looking for in a haircut and «shaping» it with his hands to show me different things. I brought in a couple of photos I liked and he discussed each one in detail with me. When we were done, he offered to go ahead with the cut then (even though I hadn’t booked it yet). I decided to do it and was so glad I did. The result was the best haircut I’ve had in years. Darby also did my color — equally amazing. She has a wonderful eye and really listens to the client. My 13-​year-​old daughter watched me get my hair cut and asked if Darby would do hers also. Two happy clients from one household! We are hooked.

Amanda Penner is Amazing. She has worked with my hair for the last two appointments and I’m just amazed at how artfully she presents her ideas; with such confidence and wisdom. The whole place is great; they do all sorts of magical transformations and are sweet as can be as well; each and every one. Awesome place Dean. P. Darby did a beautiful job on my hair. Went from long and brittle to short and stylish. I feel like a whole new person.

Rachel is a miracle worker… Not kidding… I went to see Rachel when my (now ex-​) hairstylist took me from a highlighted light brown and very long hair to a disastrous uneven nearly black and copper wig looking mess. Add a very failed medium shoulder cut with bangs and layers that did not make sense.. Recipe for tears. Rachel walked me through every rescue option possible — for both color and cut, making sure I make an informed decision on how we’re going to proceed. I never thought that I would be happy at the end of it anyway — to me it was just a «please do something. anything.» hairstyle. After 4 hours of hard work, Rachel made it happen. Not only I no longer looked and felt hideous, but I walked out with a gorgeous AND NOT DAMAGED (!) hair. Perfect cut and light, natural color. LOVE!

Randy is the best. I have curly hair and he has given me super cute layers each time he has cut my hair. This time I opted for a lighter shade than my naturally dark hair and a few highlights to frame my face. It looks exactly what we talked about before we stared. He listens to your concerns and ideas and offers his opinion without ignoring yours. He is the best stylist I have ever had work on my hair, The scalp massage is an A+. Not once did he pull my hair or make me uncomfortable. I will be a long time customer. He was able to color my hair when I only booked a cut. Thank you Randy you are a doll! The salon staff are friendly and seem like a family. Everyone is willing to help each other and offer any advice or opinion when asked. Customer service is awesome and I looked forward to my next appointment.

I’ve been looking for a stylist that can add some color to my really dark hair. After reading all the awesome reviews I decided to try this place out. Ludi (Ludivina) was my stylist and she is awesome! Since my hair is so dark she suggested doing a bayalage instead of bleaching my whole head. I have A LOT of hair and she was very patient! The color came out great! Just the right amount of red without it looking totally fake. The atmosphere of Colors is really cool too. Good music, friendly stylist, and a little doggie. I LOVE the way my hair turned out and highly recommend visiting!

tari has been my stylist since ’09 and i’ve never had more people stop me on the street to ask where i get my hair cut, even when it’s been weeks since a cut. she is seriously that good. if you want to have a stylist who is honest, has amazing skills, and is fun to talk to, just call tari.
ps the salon itself is great, no pretentious or precious vibe at all.

I have been going to my hairdresser, Tari, for several years now so when she moved over to Colors Salon, I started coming here too. That said, I’ve been in many salons over the past (insert number here) years and long enough to figure out what I look for in a great salon and this is it! Upon entering, you are warmly welcomed while you wait for your appointment. The vibe there is very friendly and I appreciate the banter and the laughter from the staff as well as the clients.
But enough about the salon. I’m here to talk about Tari. If you are looking for a competent hairdresser that knows her shit, look no further! Her range of expertise is vast, she listens to her clients and is an excellent collaborator when you have a vision. In a nutshell, she is a fearless stylist with mad skills and makes me look cooler than I actually am.

This groovy little joint is a beehive of fun. Think of the sexiest, most experienced, #hairstylists and #hair colorists all in a gravitational pull toward this salon. They are on 28^th Street between N and O as in NO other salon will ever please you like this. A little background. Dean Rhodes used to own and run The Paragon Academy. Turning out thousands of highly trained stylists into Sacramento salons. So can you imagine the distilled version of the Paragon in this boutique salon? Great stylists. Custom formulated color. Precision haircuts. All catering to a high-​end Sacramento who’s-who. All you do is sit back and relax. He’s got this crazy program for his VIP’s called Club 28. You pay a membership fee and every 4 to 6 weeks you get $ 28 color touch-​ups, or a $ 28 makeup application even a $ 28 shampoo/​blowout. You can have your own personal, and very affordable stylist basically on-​call. High-​maintenance girls don’t have to spend a fortune anymore on upkeep. Just commit. Let Dean do the rest. I love this salon. It’s comfortable. Easy to park in their private lot. And I get incredible service every time I go in. #must go

I have been a «patient» of the lovely Shannon Bailey for two years, so this review is two parts: mostly her, then the feel of this salon.
Shannon is incredible. She has been a friend of mine for a while, which doesn’t always translate to a good professional relationship. She never put me off, rescheduled me at the last minute, or made me feel pressured to get some new hairstyle I wasn’t comfortable with. I don’t even know how to use a curling iron, and she never once made me feel less of a woman for that. Never did I ever hear the phrase: you should use this fancy product that costs more than my services. She is a talented, professional hairstylist. She also took my hair from a side mullet (don’t ask) and transformed it to my goal hair within two years. Awesome.
The salon itself: perfect. The employees there make everyone feel welcome. No one is nosey or eavesdropping, but conversational. They truly believe that each person that walks through their door is important. I do not get the creepy «my client is prettier than your client» feel. The owner is genuinely passionate about hair. He stops by each chair and makes the client feel like the prettiest woman/​most handsome man in the world. Love it.
Now if I could just convince them all to open up shop in Seattle where I moved… Oh well. Guess I’ll have to get my hair done during family visits.

My long-​time stylist, Tari James, moved here recently and I have to say the salon is clean, professional, friendly and I couldn’t be happier. She has found a new home and has been inspired by her new co-​workers — they all do great hair!
The owner, Dean, made me feel super welcome and that was definitely a change of pace.
