I love this place. The staff is fun, friendly, and attentive. All of the dishes I’ve tried are excellent, but I’m still trying to work my way through their entire menu of offered fare. It’s true that sometimes it takes more than 10 minutes for an order to come up, but they are always upfront and honest about any possibility of a lengthy wait-time, and it’s never been ridiculously long, ever, and I eat here at least twice a week during lunch rush. Perhaps the difference is that I understand that quality food isn’t going to be out as quickly as fast-food, and when every table is full, I’m more than happy to wait my turn(I know that many people are not so understanding, patient, or realistic…). They offer a lunch menu for great prices, sushi, ramen, udon, stir-fry, and more. I can’t recommend this place enough. However, if you’re one of these disillusioned delusionals whom expect quality food at fast-food speeds, you should probably stay home.

The food is great the ambiance leaves much to be desired. Take out is easy and the ramen can’t be matched in the area. Service isn’t their strong point either. Don’t go in there expecting to be wowed. It is about the food here.

Wonderful staff. The udon, curry, ramen — all very tasty. We have enjoyed every visit. Classic noodle place. Staff is always so kind and attentive.

We have eaten here before and found the food very good. Had tickets to a concert and arrived 2 hours before the concert so we could enjoy a good meal. Our first clue was that we ordered wine with some appetizers. They were out of the wine and it took the appetizers 20 minutes to arrive. In the meantime we had ordered our entrees. We sat for over an hour while takeout orders were going out the door constantly. We explained that we were beginning to be worried about being late and were assured that our orders were next. 10 minutes later no food, so they said they would make it to go. Finally asked for the bill for the appetizers. She kept saying it was almost ready, but finally cancelled the dinner order and left, making it to the concert(5 min away) just in time. Noticed other diners waiting a long time as well. Seems they were more focused on the takeout customers than those who were dining in the restaurant. This ranks among the worst service we have ever experienced. Needless to say, we will not be returning or ordering take out.

I was totally lead on by the amount of good reviews for this place! The hell is wrong with everyone?! The inside is super old and sparse. The three young girls that were waitresses were nice enough but bored out of their minds. My friend got the Edokko udon and I got the sukiyaki. They brought miso soup for me and I was weirded out how sweet it was. I’ve never had sweet miso soup… that should have been a warning sign. They brought out my friends ramen and it was sickening sweet. The broth looked like a soy sauce base, but it tasted like sugar. Disgusting! This is literally my friends worst nightmare as she doesn’t like anything sweet! I was shocked myself I’ve never had sugar sweet udon soup! My sukiyaki was less sweet than her ramen and I know it’s suppose to be a sweet soy sauce base because I make it at home too. This was sweeter than anything I would have made though. There was also very little tofu and bokchoy and no bamboo shoots! The girl also never brought me an extra spoon or bowl to actually serve myself I had to keep asking for stuff. The sugar aftertaste is still in my mouth! Yuck! I feel bad for even suggesting to eat here! I will not be coming back. :-/

Every time I come here I get the curry chicken over rice. It’s so delicious! The ramen here is pretty good too but I stand by my choice in curry chicken. :) it is a cute small restaurant and I’m so glad I discovered it a couple years ago

This has been my favorite place for udon and ramen since the late ‘90s. Yes the restaurant itself is a little«hole-in-the-wall» and has not changed at all during that time, but don’t let that phase you. Their noodles are SOGOOD!!! I always get my orders to-go and have learned to arrive about 10 minutes later than the time they give me, especially if I order during peak lunch or dinner time, because they do tend to run behind. I like how they package up your meal piping hot, with the noodles and broth in separate containers, that way the noodles still have that perfect texture whether it’s 10 minutes or 1 hour later before you get to eat them. One last thing. I wish they were open Saturdays AND Sundays, and closed instead on say, Mondays. Also it would be great if they stayed open straight through the day instead of closing at 2:30 and reopening at 5:00. There have been so many times when I’ve been hit with a craving for perfect Japanese noodles between the hours of 2:30 and 5:00! =P

My go to ‘don’t feel like cooking’ place. Generous portions of ramen with great broth, and a variety of small orders to accompany it. And at a great price too!

Food is authentic Japanese entrée! I would rate it a 5 star if it weren’t for sometimes it takes longer than I plan for to get my food but worth the wait!

Food is decent but the wait time is RIDICULOUS. I have been here several times for dining in and take out and I guess I’ll never learn my lesson. Wait time in the restaurant can be 30+ minutes even if they’re not busy. If you order take out add another 30 minutes to the time they actually tell you. Staff is usually apologetic but I think they really need to work on their efficiency. I keep coming back because their udon and ramen is decent and they’re closer to me than ramen restaurants in downtown.

Let me make this clear, the food is a solid 3⁄5. This 1-star review is in regards to the exceedingly long wait times for take-out orders and for dine-in orders. This is not an isolated incident. I happen to live 1 mile from this establishment and have been giving them the benefit of the doubt for about a year now regarding their lack of punctuality. However, after 6 occasions in a row spanned over 4 months where they provided me a wait time of «20−25 minutes» for my takeout order, I am turning to Unilocal. For these take-out orders, I was made to wait 45 minutes at the earliest and 65 minutes at the latest. Every time, the wait staff gives me the same line, «We’re sorry for the wait, we just got really slammed and it’s been like this all day.» I’ve even called from my home at the 30 minute mark to check on my food so I wouldn’t have to wait at the restaurant. They assured me «5 more minutes.» I arrived five minutes later, only to have to wait another 15 minutes. ITISINSANELYANNOYING. This leads me to believe they are disorganized and or lazy in behind the scenes. Either way, it’s hurting their business because I go there about 75% less often now because of their lack of punctuality. They send the message that their time is more of a priority then their customers’.

CLOSEDONSUNDAYS — Unilocal hours are not correct. Went to try this place out, drove over with the family and saw a sign on the door that says they are closed on Sundays.

Wonderful dinner at Edokku! The food is plentiful and superb! Thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience, the service was fantastic and friendly and the staff helpful. In terms of the food, their ramen is head and shoulders above the rest of Sacramento’s offerings. Maybe a few less customizations in terms of things to throw on top, but incredible broth and fantastic portions combined with excellently cooked meats and fresh veggies makes them the best.

How have I never posted a review for edokko?! I have been coming here for at least 8 years and every time I order the same thing — edokko don! It’s two shrimp tempura and breaded chicken steamed in sauce over a bed of fluffy eggs, onion, and rice. Yum! The portion is large enough for two people to share, but if I’m really hungry I can eat the whole thing(don’t judge me). Even when I was away at college, I missed my yummy edokko don! I haven’t found a place that compares. They serve a variety of other traditional Japanese items like udon, teriyaki chicken, soba, hand rolls, etc. When I say traditional, that means no Americanized«sushi» rolls covered in three different sauces haha. I’ve tried their sesame chicken, which has a different sauce than other restaurants, but is tasty. My boyfriend enjoys that as well as the teriyaki beef. Their tempura is also more dense than others, but still good. Seating is limited, but I advise to just call in your order for pick up. From my experience, if you dine in your food can take around 40 minutes. If you call in, your food is ready in about 25 minutes. I’m don’t really get why they’re so slow when you dine in, but their workers are always friendly. They aren’t open all day, so check their hours when you plan to go. Yesterday I called in an order at 4:30 and was told to come around 5:15 because their kitchen didn’t open until 5. Edokko usually sends us coupons in the mail too — so that’s nice. I will be going back and would recommend.

The ramen is really, really good here… but if you come on a Friday or Saturday night, be prepared to wait for a table if there’s more than two of you and then wait a pretty long time to get your food… you may want to have a snack before you come? At least while you wait, you will be treated to really great customer service from the wait staff… and when you do finally get your food, it will be pretty good. Ramen really does rule here, this is not a place you come for sushi. Other great dishes include don burris, especially the Edokko Don and the udon and soba dishes.

Is there a god of ramen? A lord of chashu? A messiah of tan tan men? If so, He(or She) surely resides here at Edokko. The ramen here is not only delicious, but may have miraculous, age-reversing properties. Consider the following: — It is said that Misao Okawa, the oldest living person in the world, successfully swam from Alcatraz to San Francisco on the occasion of her 116th birthday. What did she have the night before? You guessed it… the miso ramen at Edokko. — Barry Babinski, the so-called«Polish Spider-Man,» free-climbed the Transamerica Building at age 60 after devouring a bowl of Edokko’s shoyu ramen. It was reported that he BASE-jumped from the top of the building, using as a parachute only an open copy of the Pocket News. Did he survive? Well, let’s just say he was ordering some gyoza at Edokko the very next day. — And then there’s Ol’ Solomon, the oldest, winningest gamecock on the North American cockfighting scene. It’s no secret that his trainer used to put him on a steady diet of Edokko shio ramen the week before a big fight. Legend has it that, in his final fight, he somehow regurgitated a undigested noodle mid-bout. With a phlegm-hardened noodle hanging from his beak, he proceeded to whip his opponent into unconsciousness with a dozen sickening lashes. Cocka-noodle-doo! Anyway, you should give this place a try. Consider taking your food to go if the place is crowded. And there’s a combo option where you can get curry over rice along with your ramen. Don’t get me started on what the curry can do.

Used to come here a lot but since I moved out of the area, I haven’t been here as much. :(Super sad to say, but I thought I would leave a nice review in thought of this delicious place. :) SO this place is the place to go for ramen. It’s really on-point and it’s authentic. Every dish here is authentic and I love their spicy choices. If you’re huge on trendy rolls soiled in mayo sauce then this place isn’t for you. This place serves ACTUAL japanese cuisine and isn’t limited to just sushi. It’s cheap enough to come as often as you want, and you’ll be able to try something new each time. This place is good for couples and it’s always packed in here at dinner time. You know that’s a good sign. I recommend it! Unless you want a fake sushi roll drowned in sauce, this is about to be your new favorite authentic Japanese restaurant. Also the fish tastes so good.

I like coming here for the curry chicken udon. the portion size is filling anf big but after an hr or two I get very thirsty. I believe the curry have lots of msg or sodium in it to make it taste so good. I also like ordering the ramen sets which is a pretty good deal. the bento boxes are decent and pretty good too. mt fav is the seasme chicken which is crispy and has lots of sauce on it. and it also comes with miso soup which is good. not everywheres miso soup taste good some are bland but this one is delicious. bad thing is the service is slow at times. and the waiting time takes forever when it is busy. if you have an hr lunch time, think twice before coming because its a long wait for the food. or ordering togo.
