Sweet little historical spot on Broadway. Recently reopened. Nicely decorated. Hi-top tabes for 6 by the large widows make for great people watching during the day. Bloody Mary was good. As expected — nothing remarkable. Breakfast menu is limited to what you would expect in a bar — lounge. Mostly sandwiches and ball game fare. Wort a stop.

Attempting to reopen a well loved icon is a daring feat. This being said the new place is nothing like the old. It more resembles a typical sports themed restaurant. Food was just ok, bartender refused to make a Black and Tan? Our server did her best and provided decent service. The set up is strange, with a server table and cash register placed in what I assume would be a high traffic area. Honestly, first impression was disappointment.

After being a big fan of the previous iteration of Joe Marty’s, I have to say I was really underwhelmed with this. First, though, the positives: * Great service. Female server and male manager were very friendly, helpful, and competent. * The place looks great. I love the baseball memorabilia and other local sports stuff, and the scoreboard is a nice touch. Definitely looks really nice and you can tell they put a lot of thought into it. * Drinks are good; they make the lemonade from scratch(!). * The burger was perfectly decent, maybe even slightly better than average, and cooked perfectly rare as I requested. The fries, while nothing fancy, were done just right, too, and the portion was large. Now onto the rest: * Menu is tiny. Usually that’s great — it means they’re not going to try to do anything they can’t do well. But here it’s really boring as well. * Food is way overpriced. I’m sorry, for a burger to cost $ 12 it had better be fantastic, not just good. And a $ 10 hotdog? Are you serious? * It’s not really Joe Marty’s. My last point isn’t completely fair, but it’s not unfair either. For decades, Joe Marty’s was known for one thing(other than being a friendly local sports bar): BROASTEDCHICKEN. They even had a big sign in front noting that. People came from all over — it was the best chicken dish in Sacramento. You’d think the new management would realize that, and that probably 80% of the diners at the old place came for that dish. Certainly the only reason I came to the new version of JM’s was for the broasted chicken. Which they do not serve. Which is a shame. Which is why I won’t be back. Too bad — they had a huge opportunity right there, and for me at least, they’ve squandered it. BRINGBACKTHEBROASTEDCHICKEN and drop the prices by about $ 2 per sandwich/burger and I’ll be back.

We stopped by to have a beer and some appetizer-like food before a movie tonight. I ordered the Lagunitas IPA because it was being featured during Happy Hour, but I — for the first time in my 62 years — sent a beer back. I replaced it with a Coors Light. Neither beer was cheap, even though it was one of the two featured Happy Hour specials. Food-wise, the street tacos were tasty but even smaller than other street tacos I’ve had, but for 3 dollars apiece. My wife’s salad was attractive, but not much to brag about taste-wise. Overall, I think it’s a very mediocre place with a great location. I hope they learn the restaurant game before it’s too late and they lose the place. Even though I’m a baseball historian and writer, I wasn’t impressed a whole lot with Joe Marty’s, which is unfortunate because I really wanted the place to be a tribute to Sacramento’s rich baseball legacy.

Location is excellent, food is meh, beer is good, signature cocktails are very expensive and not all that great. Love all the baseball nostalgia. Never been to a place where the cocktails were more expensive than the food??? Interesting twist.

Lunch was efficiently served to the 11 attendees at the new Joe Marty’s. $ 12 blue cheese burger with sweet potato tots were worth it. Looking forward to returning.

Great bar. Nice to see something new to the neighborhood. Highly recommend the burger and pulled pork sandwich. Plus, what is not to like about a bar that serves Racer 5 on tap.

Great place to watch sports, drink some beer, and have some tasty food. There are TVs all over the place and the sound of the game was coming through the overhead speakers so you can hear what is going on in the game instead of reading closed captions like other bars. Good selections of beers and full bar. Next time I go I will try the bloody Mary it has a bacon slice in it! The food was all good, pretzel bites, sweet potatoes tots(my favorite), and I recommend the Joe Marty burger, it was excellent!

It’s an upscale and modern version of the old JM’s. Where it was once one of my favorite dives in Sac, the newer version is still the ‘new kid on the block’ and has some growing up to do. JM needs to find a new niche. They need a new menu with some really great sports bar food at reasonable prices served with ice cold mugs and pitchers of beer(Bud, Bud Light and/or PBR in addition to the micro-brews). Get rid of the pulled pork, and just stick with burgers and bbq. Maybe some bad ass hot chili and some other hot/spicy food would help. Or, just bring back the old Joe Marty’s lunch menu.

I read recently that this place had re-opened. Today at lunch, we drove over to grab some lunch. First thing i noticed there were no tables available… great indication it was going to be delish! The waitress quickly asked to help and how many? I told her 2 and we had a table within 3 minutes. We tried the Marty’s Burger, so good i can’t wait to return. Tacos were simply delicious as well. We needed hot sauce and she brought over 3 different kinds, very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was older crowd, professional crowd and T.V.‘s everywhere, new and clean and the service well that’s what i call service! Loved it.

Meh. The six of us decided to drop by on Friday and check out the food. It is a pretty small place, and they will do their best to accommodate you– but they only have a couple high tops that will fit groups of six. The place is nice inside and the bar looks like an okay place to hang out at. Our server was nice, but obviously had too many tables at once; need more servers for a Friday guys! We were constantly re-ordering beer and it really did take forever; they apologized, but it’s just weird since its beer– usually there’s a bar back or an extra server that can help expedite those orders. we weren’t ordering cocktails. The food is okay to good. We tried ordering the parmesan pretzel bites, but they were out. At 5pm on a Friday? We enjoyed the sweet potato bites and ketchup; but our first order came with some herbs and what looked like parmesan sprinkled on top– YUMMM! .the second order did not come topped with anything… bummer! My date ordered the hot dog with pulled pork and slaw on top. He said it was«good» I ordered the linguica dog, which was«meh». The dog was obviously fresh, but lacked any real flavor… There was a small amount of orange sauce atop the onions; but it really just tasted like bun. I was disappointed since I like trying local stuff which this dog was. Obviously needs a different sauce/topping or the meat itself needs to be different. It ended up tasting really dry and uninteresting. Others said their food was fine, although everyones french fries were cold. I will give this place another try after they’ve settled in and can work with the menu items and work their service kinks out. Our server was really nice and that was cool!

Having never had the chance to hitch my pony at the original Joe Marty’s, I am very excited about the reincarnation of the iconic Sacramento establishment. The namesake, Joe Marty, spent 5 years playing in the bigs before returning home to open a bar that paid homage to great pastime. True to its roots, the newly reopened Joe Marty’s is a mini baseball shrine with key emphasis on Sacramento’s baseball history and a tribute to the native sons that have played at baseball’s highest level. There is a nice collection of photographs and relics throughout the space. My first impression and experience were very good. The place itself is relatively small, but the tables are spread out just enough and the high ceilings give it a nice open feel. As one would expect for any establishment that has baseball jerseys on the walls, there is a fair amount of strategically placed big screens. On the night of my visit, there was a varied selection of the more premier games of the evening. It was one of those weird late season Saturday’s where you get an NFL game mixed several college bowl games and NBA. Is there anything worse than looking up and seeing the local news or a rerun of NCIS when there should be sports on? Another plus was the friendly and attentive waitstaff. As for the food, the Joe Marty burger was one of the better if not the best burger I’ve had in awhile. The bun isn’t typically a make or break for me, but the bun here, locally sourced from The Bread Store was exceptional; a definite show stopper in its own right. As for the beef, the ultimate make or break, this one was a very strong make with its perfectly seared char on the exterior, juicy middle and fresh and robust flavor. Unfortunately my bacon add was forgotten so I didn’t get a chance to try it. As for my side fries, I could’ve taken them or left them as they were, in my opinion, very ordinary shoe string style fries that can be found anywhere including your grocer’s freezer. As of right now, the menu is pretty limited. I was however told that it will be expanding and is being rolled out slowly to ensure a high quality product. I will look forward to returning to try whatever else is added on the menu. The price point was the only possible negative for me as I felt it was a tad high at roughly $ 48 for one burger, one hot dog and three beers.

First, it was good to see this iconic sports bar back in action. I didn’t visit when it was in its previous incarnation, but then again, dark and smoky wasn’t my thing. The new Joe Marty’s is modern and airy, with a clean design and museum-like display of memorabilia that pays homage to its past. It wasn’t busy on a Monday night, so my friend and I were seated right away. The football game was on, but turned up high enough that it made conversation difficult. The menu is brief. 2 salads, a couple of appetizers and a burger, pulled pork sandwich, or grilled cheese. The server said they are looking to add to the menu, which is sorely needed. Nice to see a good selection of microbrewery options, especially my favorite — Panic IPA. We both ordered the grilled cheese. It was hot and gooey, with a poblano pepper adding a nice roasted kick. However, the tomato made the bread mushy so the last few bites were forgettable. My sandwich came with a seriously light order of tots. About half the amount shown in the Unilocal photo, and definitely not enough to share. Which was a shame because they were crisp on the outside, and tender inside with a terrific sweet potato flavor. After sending the salad back for the one that was actually ordered, we found the Caesar dressing to be fresh and garlicky– probably the best thing on the plate. Service was slow, with us flagging down the waitress to take our order even though traffic was light. The server was quick to take our plates, but not refill our water even as we lingered. Overall, Joe Marty’s brings a great alternative for dining along Broadway but if they are going to shine, they need to polish up the serving and expand the menu.

Walked in to a sports bar type of atmosphere. Clean, open, loud, about 8 tv’s. We sat at the bar and all I saw on tap were the corporate beers, bud, coors, Blue Moon, etc. I asked our bartender, who wasn’t the most inviting person I have had serve me a beer recently, «do you have any local Ipa’s?» She said, we have 805. Quick geography lesson. 805 stands for the area code of where its brewed, 6 hours south! I said how about the 916? She said«we have this beer Track 7 from down south.» That conversation hurt. While drinking my beer from 14th avenue, we ordered wings to start, and was asked, exactly«is that it?» with a pain in the ass tone. We said to start, we are in no rush. The wings came, I think its false advertising because they were too small to be chicken. More like Pigeon or Cornish game hen wings. They were smaller than my thumb. I even took a picture. We ended up eating a few more things that were tasty(oh, the menu is very limited, about 10 total items, maybe to get their feet under them). The tacos were good, my buddies burger was good, my house salad was solid. The place ended up getting packed, it got very noisy, but it was Thursday night football and there were actual real Rams fans there. Nutshell: A nicer bartender would be nice(and knows beer geography), a more extensive menu and larger wings. Its in a great place so I will definitely try it again.

So welcome back! Too bad we won’t be going back there. Went I for a late lunch today, around 3, great atmosphere and look, but it was FREEZING cold in there. We ordered what the server recommended, the Marty burger, and the linguisa dog. First off the burger was hand made and over fit the bun perfectly, but came with frozen(not fresh cut) fries, and NOCOOKIES whatsoever. The linguisa dog was flavorless, dry and way, way too much crumbly and dry roll. Plus, you walk in, it says, please wait to get seated, but they just wait for you to say something first. I know they just reopened, but first impressi ons are everything to us, and we won’t be going back anytime soon.

Visited on Monday night and Joe Marty’s was hopping! A lot of people(some sort of event or Holiday Party going on), but it was fine. Lots of people, but the service was great and the noise level wasn’t bad at all. Seated by a friendly hostess in about 1 microsecond, she knew the beers on tap, and shortly the server brought me a nice IPA. On tap — Coors Light, Stella, Track 7IPA, Racer 5, Lagunitas IPA, Deutsche’s Porter, and a craft blonde that I can’t remember. So, nice on tap list. Good wine selection and full bar as well. TVs everywhere, and they are nicely placed so you can watch if you want, and ignore if you don’t. The bar area itself is nice, about 18 feet tall it looked like, very nice. Lots of baseball stuff as you might imagine, but not tacky, just some nice homage to the past of the establishment and the area. The menu is a bit smallish on selections, but we both had the Pulled Pork and it was good. I’d like a bit more sauce… the bun was really tasty and the fries are as good as a fry can be. The server was super, really attentive and friendly. Have you ever noticed how a perfect server seems to always there the moment you need something? Well, that’s how it was. Very nice addition to the Broadway scene so go and enjoy!

Good new bar, maybe the best sports in Sacramento already. Full bar and a purposely small menu as they get established. Sports atmosphere was great, everyone was enjoying themselves and the look/feel was pretty much perfect. I enjoyed the history behind the place and the new owners clear care that people have a sense of it.

Visited 12.4.15 for a late lunch. Limited menu since they just opened. Upon entering was immediately greeted and seated. Very pleasant hostess. Waitress came over and took drink order. The place was pretty busy and full of cheer. Bar looked well stocked and ample seating. Ordered the burger med w tots. Cooked perfectly and very tasty. The tots were cooked perfectly and not greasy. Can’t wait for the expanded menu. This will be a fun meeting spot for years to come. Best of luck Joe Marty’s. See ya again real soon.

Great food with great people. Went to lunch with Rich L today. He suggested we come to Joe Martys. We entered an were quickly greeted by a very nice hostess, welcoming us to Joe Martys. We quickly sat down with our party who was already there. Our waitress Nikki came us and greeted us, and took our drink orders(Bloody Marys). We check out the menu as it was limited do to there grand opening that is coming soon. Our Bloody Mary’s arrived and we’re pretty good, one was a little salty the other not spicy enough. Our server took our drinks back, but returned with them giving us a bottle of tasbacco sauce, for us to fix. A short time after, our lunch arrived. Both of use having a Marty Burger with cheddar cheese, and one with Bacon. Both burgers were pretty darn good. Cooked to profection. The meat was tender and juicy, and The bacon was perfect. I think the best part about lunch was the BBQ Pork Chips(chicharones) NOW I could eat those every day. They were nice warm and crispy. But make sure they add a little more BBQ seasoning As for our server, I felt like she did a great job, making sure we were okay and that our drink we always filled. She quickly took our dirty plates off the table. But all around making sure we were doing good.

Had the chicken sandwich which was great. Juicy chicken, mild pablano pepper and cheese on very fresh focciacia bread. Servers are extremely friendly which compliments the neighborhood vibe. Bloody Marty with the bacon is top notch too.
