Noooooooooooooo!!! Mangia! why you love me no more??? Why you gotta close and shut me out like that?! Where else will I be able to get them delicious and tasty sandwiches??? Subway? Pft… I’d rather remain sandwich celibate!

Chipotle Cole Slaw @ $ 1.99 for a damn good sized I’d say 8 oz’s? packed firm container of it. Heaven on earth… Least it was for me as one I adore deliciously fresh coleslaw & two the flavors of the chipotle, minced perfectly balanced fresh cilantro bits and green onions… All in a creamy tangy, spicy, zingy sweet/salty dressing… Flippin fantastic & my mouth was screaming for more. No joke! Had I have known how amazing it was going to be and how truly ecstatic it was going to make me feel as I found my self taking smaller and smaller bites as I savored the flavors & crispy crunch of it I would have just have ordered a vat of it and eaten that for lunch and cancelled the half of a sandwich I ate after I fought the urge to lick the entire bowl clean of any remnants of its existence… I dissected it well and will be recreating it as best I can at home by the way as I could literally eat it every single day… Fountain drinks; no diet Coke but diet Pepsi which I had are self-fill & refill. +1 for that convenience & savings. Heat Seeker Sandwich: Full of meat. I mean really what else can I say about it except that it’s served in the freshest full bodied Acme Roll that’s tender on the inside & crusty & chewy on the outside. The guts of the sandwich included: Molinari salami, hot capicola, habanero jack, tequila soaked jalapenos, vine ripe tomatoes, crisp lettuce & sriaracha aioli… Diagnosis: IT’s got kiCk! I loved that as I love the hottest spiciest foods that I can get my hands and mouth on and although its no where near a scorcher it’s got a nice heat to it. Sandwich looks small from the outside of it but once you dig into it I found it to be beyond filling and satisfying and therefore wrapped up the other half of it and took it home. Don’t know how it was left over as I sent it with my man and he ate it at dinner at work that evening. Mentioned to him about splitting a sandwich the next trip in together and throwing in some of their tomato basil soup and slaw however he seemed reluctant to do so ha! That man loves his carbs ;) Love you baby! I’ve already decided that the next time I dine here I’m trying their Hail Mary! as the Hail Mary! has Swiss cheese & Russian dressing with that orgasmic chipotle coleslaw in it too but I’m still getting that side of slaw anyway as it’s just that flippin frantastic!

Hail Mary sandwich — house cured hot pastrami and melted swiss on a toasted acme roll w Russian dressing(tangy thousand island like), and chipolte Cole slaw. Enjoyed the sandwich, very filling, and tasty. Want to come back and try other sandwiches. The bread was kind of too thick though.

Been here a handful of times. I’m pretty simple, if I find something I like I’ll stick to it. The only sandwich I get here is «The Capital Grinder» I can’t get over how the brisket /slaw /horseradish goes together and melts in your mouth. The bread is toasted with just the right amount of crisp keeping the inside nice and soft. If you’re thirsty they have a good amount of local beers on Tap, My fav is the«Monkey Knife Fight» from Rubicon. Patio is a good spot for ppl watching during the warmer months! Go get your MANGIAON!

NOTE: Mangia will soon be closing at 6pm. Wha-whaaat? Who would be coming there between 3&6 pm — swing shift workers? It’s one of those decisions that must be crystal clear to the business owner, but remains an enigma to simple moi. The owners of Mangia, a successful Sacramento law/restaurant family, have a thriving Italian restaurant next door. Having expanded into this space offers the potential of attracting more patrons and amplifying the long time success of Paesano’s. Somehow though, Mangia’s seems to suffer from self-image woes. Heck, this could be a great place! Is it Italian, as the name suggests? Sandwich/salad spot, taphouse, sports bar, or ?? As we entered the counter service eatery, helpful staff and the specials board awaited us. Warm brick walls and low voltage lighting give a cozy feel, which unfortunately we lost as we took our seats. Whether it was the combination of metal tables/chairs, large windows, steel and brick — or just the feel that it was cold inside — we couldn’t really get comfortable. Maybe the addition of a few booths to break up all of those hard surfaces would help? With 17 taps including 4REAL microbrews — from Sacramento area breweries — and two ciders, and an award-winning chef, Mangia’s has the makings of a first-rate tap house, along the lines of Firestone(how’d those folks get away with borrowing the Firestone Walker name, anyway?) or even Pangaea. However, at the prices(around $ 5 – 6) for a 13-oz pour that’s described as a «pint,» the meal price quickly adds up to rival a typical sit-down restaurant. Patio seating out front is killer and can be enjoyed most of the year. HH is daily 3pm on — $ 1 off taps and $ 2 bites — but the HH menu could be more simplified! It’s a bit difficult for(simple me again) to figger out. The down & dirty: Food — 3 — Great chef, but let’s work on that menu! Service — 4 — I’m not a fan of counter service, but they’re good at it. Value — 3 — «DPA» — Dishonest Pint Alert! Get new glasses please! Setting — 3 — They’re almost there… I hope they change it soon. Date worthy — 2 – 3 — Work out the kinks and it could be a 5!

Delicious! I got the Capitol grinder, BBQ beef brisket w chipotle slaw n horseradish… Sooo good! The hubby got the Hail Mary, house cured pastrami n chipotle slaw. The bread on both was delicious and perfectly crunchy. This will def be a new addition to our regular spots! Extra bonus… they have track 7 on tap.

I came here for the first time last week and had a decent experience. I tried the Caprese BLT. The sandwich had bacon, arugula, tomato, mozzarella, pesto aioli on sourdough bread. The ingredients inside the sandwich was very tasty, but the bread did not taste fresh. It was slightly difficult to chew the bread. My boyfriend had the Muffuletta which consists of salami, mortadella, ham, provolone cheese, mayo, and lettuce. He really enjoyed his sandwich and didn’t have any complaints Everyone was very friendly. I definitely want to come back and try other sandwiches.

Mmmmm, Mangia! Love their sandwiches, but wish it was a bit bigger! The few times we’ve been here, we’ve had the Hot Pastrami, Mangia Club, Hail Mary, and the Muffuletta. This is no ordinary sandwich, they put quality ingredients into these delicious Artisan breads or rolls. Yes, that’s it! The bread! It’s a carboholic’s dream come true! My most recent fave is the, «Hail Mary.» The thin layers of house pastrami with Russian dressing and coleslaw, toasted with melted Swiss cheese in a rustic Acme roll. It has me begging for more. If you’re ordering to-go, I suggest you call ahead and place your order. The last time I was there, I waited more than 20 minutes, not good. But, the sammies are!

WOW! Had a sample taste of Mangia at Unilocal’s Farm To Handle Event. I went to lunch with a friend and we split 2 sandwiches TOGO a Hot Pastrami and Muffaletta. It’s was Very Good! You don’t need to buy chips cause the bread had a nice grilled crunch and soft on the inside. Pastrami perfect HOT and Muffaletta’s Olives was bursting with flavor. MANGIA! next time I will enjoy the outdoor seating. Parking stalls on the side street if your lucky or street parking

(1) Man-gee-uh is not how you pronounce this sandwich spot.(2) I sounded like an idiot for a week by mispronouncing Mangia.(3) Apparently, Mangia means«eat» in Italian. Food: A friend and I split a couple of sandwiches: Tokyo Tuna Salad and Mangia! Club. The sandwiches we ordered had some interesting ingredients; the Tokyo Tuna Salad had wasabi mayonnaise and the Mangia! Club had a spicy sriracha aioli. Considering the ingredients, both sandwiches actually tasted good! Side Notes Ambiance: There is plenty of inside and outside seating for small and large groups. Service: The service is good. During prime time lunch hours, prepare for a line. Overall: I wouldn’t make another special trip like I did, but if I was in the area, I wouldn’t mind eating here again.

After having seen so many of my fellow Unilocalers’, especially the ones who live/eat/breathe The Grid, frequent and positive reviews for Mangia!, I decided it was time to give this place a try. Mind you, it’s hard for me NOT to go down the block to Tidbit when I’m in this area, because I love them dearly and practically feel like I’m cheating on them for straying… but I digress. First off, YES, I had a Groupon for Mangia! both times I’ve been here. What can I say? I love a deal… feel free to go to Groupon right now for the same deal I got… don’t hate. The food is yummy and the staff is super. Both times, I’ve had their Mangia Chop salad. Well, much as I loooove bread, it’s full of carbs and makes my blood sugars rise astronomically, so I really kinda have to get a salad, especially in a sandwich shop. But this salad is great… full of meats and cheeses and a nice dressing. I ask for no tomatoes and light on the garbanzo beans, and it’s been perfect each time. Yay! Hubby, both times so far, has ordered and scarfed down the Hot Pastrami sandwich… yeah, he loves it. Oh, and they have Pepsi products here(insert sad face here, because I’m a Diet Coke groupie), but they DO, thankfully, have Diet Dr Pepper(insert happy/relieved face here). Can’t forget to mention… don’t forget to make your order a combo. Basically, for $ 2, you get a drink and bag of chips. Or, more so, just a drink is $ 2, so for all intents and purposes, you’re getting the bag of chips for free. You’re welcome. I think I’ll venture to try their Salmon Cobb salad next time, but I think it’ll take an act of God to tear Hubby away from getting another Hot Pastrami. And, naturally, I’ll be back with a Groupon in my hand :)

One of the best Meat Loaf Sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. I stopped by and got some sandwiches for me, my girl friend and my parents. I remember trying their Muffuletta sandwich at a Unilocal event a year ago and I was craving a good solid sandwich. I got the Atomic Meat Loaf, my girl friend got the Capitol Grinder and I got my parents a Muffuletta. The Atomic Meat Loaf had a nice curry kick to it, and with bacon all over. I had half of the Capitol Grinder, but it was a little too saucy for my liking. It had a horse radish sauce which cleared my nose. I wish ate all of my sandwich instead of sharing sandwiches. My parents actually liked the Muffuletta. They don’t like deviating from their usual orders of Panera, but my mom said that the meat was not saucy but tastier than Panera. I would give this place 5 stars, but it took a while to get the sandwiches made. I probably waited 15 minutes even though the place wasn’t that packed. I’ll definitely be back the next time I want a good sandwich.

So I finally got to try Mangia after it’s been on my bookmarks list for quite some time and it wasn’t really on purpose. My boyfriend and I had planned on brunch at Capitol Garage but, I guess because it was Labor Day weekend, it was an hour wait! Ridiculous. Capitol Garage can wait. Instead, I Unilocaled nearby restaurants and Mangia was only .3 miles away, giving me little to NO time to look up what was good and popular to order. I briefly looked at their menu and, being a fan of mortadella and salami-type sandwiches, I ordered their Muffuletta while the boyfriend opted for their Smoked Salmon Cobb Salad(my second choice, hehe). If I had time to look through Unilocal photos, etc. I’d probably have ordered the one and only Capitol Grinder. It looks like sex between two buns!!! Anyway, the Muffuletta didn’t disappoint but neither did it impress. I’m glad I tried it because the olive salad mix brought an interesting twist but I’d probably order other sandwiches from Mangia in the future. I’ve had better salami-type sandwiches at Sandwich Spot and Roxie. The Smoked Salmon Cobb Salad, on the other hand, was a hit! The ingredients were so fresh and tasty, the smoked salmon was delicious and the dill dressing put everything together perfectly. I was almost hogging the entire bowl! I see a lot of potential in Mangia, which is why I will definitely be back to try their other items. Only 3 stars for now though, because I’m not dying to come back. Next time, though, I’ll make sure to try one of their beers! A sandwich spot that serves such a wide selection of beer is worthy of a second try.

I can eat half a sandwich(maybe a side) and save the rest for later. I eat like a human because my sedentary occupation, saving baby seals from being clubbed, involves a cubical 9 hrs a day. But sometimes, sooometiiiimes the sandwich is really good and it’s hard. It’s been hard with Mangia lately. Forget about it with the meatball sub(new item!), that thing is tasty. Meatballs, toasted crunchy exterior-chewy interior roll, gooey cheese, and a nice side cup of drinkable marinara for dunking! I do like the Tokyo Tuna as well. I add some sriracha to it.(Duh) For breakfast the spinach, tomato, and basil panini pretty much rocks. Other sandwiches are okay too. I think I am just anti aoili and so pro vinegar/pickled things that I always will feel something is missing. I like the functional layout and, yep, there’s a patio for people watching. Too many people still think it’s Java City squatting the booths for computing, but whatevs. The staff seems nice enough and now there is beer. And call in orders. And Facebook deals. I like those. Maybe soon they’ll post their hours and you won’t have to guess if they are open or not. Pretty cool, Mangia(!), way to come along.

How’s this for heaven on bread? Their Atomic Meatloaf sandwich includes bacon-wrapped meatloaf served warm with jack cheese, red onion jam, house made pickles and their hot Mangia Fire Sauce on an Acme roll. Not satisfied? How about the Mojo Cubano, made with citrus braised pork, smoked ham, swiss and jack cheese, house-made pickles & mango-cilantro mayonnaise pressed on an Acme deli roll. Ok.you’re a tough sell. Then try the Bombay Chicken Salad, piled high with their signature blend of chicken, cashews, golden raisins, red onion, jalapeño, cilantro and curried mango mayonnaise served with tender Boston lettuce on sliced artisan squaw bread. These are three reasons I keep coming back. What’s your reason for not giving them a try?

Once upon a time there was a coffee shop in midtown Sacramento called Java City. Java City was only one of a few gourmet coffee dispensaries in Sactown at the time. It was kind of funky and had a really great tree out front that gave the place something known as personality. Unfortunately, after many, many years Sactown lost both these landmarks within a very short period of time. The tree had to be cut down for safety reasons and Java City went out of business. The tree was replaced by a younger, much smaller tree that lacks any kind of distinction and it will be many years before it is even noticeable. I find the tree to be symbolic of the sandwich shop that replaced Java City. Mangia’s new interior is about as memorable as the new tree. The sandwiches themselves use good quality bread and wonderfully fresh ingredients but in the end I am not sure they are any more interesting than the furniture. I am pulling for you Mangia. It is time to step up your game.

Mangia! is AWESOME!!! This place is guaranteed to give you a foodgasm! I’ve been stalking their Unilocal page(mainly the photos) since their opening day and I finally got the opportunity to try them on my lunch break today! I almost went somewhere else because I only had 25mins of lunch left after running my errands, but I was in and out of there within 15mins! I was so surprised at how quick they were. Staff was super friendly and was very informative about their menu. I had the Capitol Grinder and my goodness I cannot believe how much flavor was in that sandwich! The brisket was soo tender and juicy. The chipotle coleslaw and horseradish complimented the sandwich so well! Be sure to grab some extra napkins cause it does get a bit messy. Besides the sandwiches, they do also serve soup, salad and chips! Prices for these sandwiches are decent! They are cut in half so you can share with a friend! Half a sandwich pretty much filled me up! I can’t wait to be back to try their other sandwiches.

«Mangia!» is an Italian word meaning«eat!» Mangia! is part of Paesanos family of restaurants which also include Uncle Vito’s and Pronto. It’s located right next to Paesanos. 43 minutes… That was how long it took me to get my two sandwiches. Good thing I was in a good mood. There were these two other customers I talked to who waited even longer than me. The long wait time was due to it being the last day of their grand opening buy one sandwich, get one FREE Facebook offer. When I went in, they were quite busy. The restaurant slowly cleared out. I was informed they had temporarily closed their doors while finishing the rest of our orders. Because of the wait, customers received a business card good for a free sandwich. I ordered the Mangia! Cub and Hail Mary! based solely on the fact both of the sandwich names have exclamation points in them. I was informed they ran out of their Acme roll, so instead they used a seeded wheat roll. I didn’t really care for the bread. Mangia! Club– Roasted turkey, smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, and spicy sriracha aioli Bacon and avocado were the best parts of the sandwich. The sriracha aioli gave the sandwich a kick. Hail Mary!- House cured hot pastrami and melted Swiss with Russian dressing & chipotle coleslaw I don’t usually go for pastrami but this sandwich was delicious! One bite will leave you wanting more!

I finally got to try this place! I’m not sure why I was putting it off since I work near by! But finally I made my way over today, with a group of 8 of us. About 4 of us go the same sandwich: Mangia Club: which I have to say was very tasty and filling. Our only complaint was the bread. I love bread, all types but sometimes places take the word«Rustic» a little to far! But honestly I would still get that sandwich again! Loved the lil kick of heat from the Shircha mayo, made it much better then the normal club. Other people got the Pesto Paninni, Hail Mary and the Tuna Salad sandwich. Everyone loved their sandwiches. Oh but the tuna salad has Wasbi, so if you are not a wasbi fan: Do Not order. We had a non-Wasbi lover in our group but Easy fix, he switched half his Tuna for half of other friend’s Pesto. So everyone was pleased. Service was good, they have greeters coming around checking in to see how everything is. That was nice. It does seem like everyone is yelling there but I think it’s so packed, staff has to yell. Place is so packed you get a buzzer when order is ready! Ok now time to get serious, I love food and drinks! I have been«talking» about My sandwich spot/bar idea which included making fancy upscale sandwiches but as a twist each sandwich can be turned into a carb friendly meal and made into a salad! Well the people at Mangia(Paesanos) much have overheard my loud mouth!!! Because Mangia does this!!! I guess I will just bow my hat to them! LOL Good Job! I’ll be back to try another sandwich soon. ..(even if you stole my ideas) :)
