A Great Spot For Birthdays Of All Kinds(AND Levels Of Craziness!) SITREP I said already most of what I love about THEMIX Downtown(THEMIX) in my immediate prior review, and it still rings true! However, I think it is important to add(and emphasize) that THEMIX has the capability of showing that it indeed has different levels of .(how should I say this…) of ENERGY that it can represent for you, and that includes even the button-down, dressy-lady, higher-class example of a birthday celebration. THESETUP Once such example is the recent birthday celebration of my friend & über-Yelper Karen K., a most lovely & high-class lady who was hosted a wonderful«Happy Hour» birthday soirée here recently by her equally debonair & classy husband(and also über-Yelper) Kenneth K. The vibe was totally chill, relaxed, conversational, and very enjoyable, almost like a family-celebration, truly: This was a TOTAL departure from the«HOOKERS&BLOW» Birthday MAD-FRENZY that another one of our buddies(and über-Yelper) Minh N. hosted here a few years back, with off-the-hook debauchery & shenanigans! [Most pictures I could NOT post on Unilocal, btw(and a couple that I DID were removed)…] Literally these two(2) events were Night and Day, and in fact, where held at those different times: NIGHT(Minh) and DAY(Karen). THE«VIBE» OFTHEMIX If there is one point I would want to drive home at this moment is that THEMIX is a multi-purpose venue that has different character and flare at different times of the day. With a wide«Hours of Operation» running from 4pm to 2am, you can easily have 3 – 4 different kinds/tones of crowds in just one evening. * During Happy Hour from 4pm to 7pm, the furnishings are set-up to promote an atmosphere of a chill lounge; * Late night from 9pm to 2am, the furnishings in the middle are moved so that an energetic kick-ass dance floor is revealed with talented DJs getting the *thump thump thump* out there to the crowd dancing away. And that’s to say nothing of the different character you would see from one day(a Thursday) to another day(a Saturday) also, depending on special events, holidays, music formats, etc. etc. for example. THELOWDOWN Still a dynamic, wonderful, multi-faceted venue in the heart of Midtown Sacramento!

Great place! If you want a relaxing environment go between 6 and 9. After 9 it’s time to party. This is the place to take a first date.

I really don’t like giving negative reviews. The service here is a complete joke. I was sitting waiting I don’t know how long to get service. I walk to the bar to ask for help and the server with the dark hair was to busy texting on her cellphone and offered to help. She then comes bad and tells me my waitress was on her way. Geez, I get that servers and assigned tables, but come how long do I have to wait especially after I’m sitting with the same group who’s order’s are being taken. Thankfully, the bartender helps me and took my food and drink order. And helped me bring my food back to where I was sitting. The happy hour specials are great and offers quite a bit. I ordered the Mac n cheese and the Kobe sliders for my honey. I loved the Mac n cheese and I tried the Kobe slider it was good. I’m giving 2 stars for the help of the bartender’s helpful service and the food. Thank you, Mr. Bartender you rock!

Great! Quality drinks, quality food, quality prices & service. Getting seated at first was a little lackluster on the employee’s end but oh well. We sat at the outside bar and it was such nice ambiance. The bartender was quick to address us to get our drinks started. I got the carol ann, and my friend got the dragon berry mojito. Both were really good and presented nicely. Happy hour was going on so we got the Kobe sliders n fried chicken… holy crap… BOMB!!! and for like 5⁄6 bucks? Yesss. And the food came out within ten min. Definitely will be back. Only reason I’m knocking off a star is because at the end a new bartender came in and when we wanted to pay separately, she told us that we «SHOULD» have told them at the beginning… umm excuse me boo boo but you don’t ever tell the customer what they SHOULD have done, but other than that it was a great experience and our original bartender was awesome. I’ll be back!

Food here is good! Only came here once during happy hour… and it was a good experience. Came here with a friend before watching a musical… When I first walked in… didn’t know it was an upstairs location… fortunately for me… thay have an elevator!. When I got out of the elevator… the outside patio was busy with a private party… so I had to sit inside… it was pretty quiet… we were greeted by a couple of waitresses… they sat us down on some really comfy couches… and gave us a few mins to look at the menu. There was a fairly big variety for both drinks and food… ordered a couple of cocktails as well as several different appetizers. There was no wait at all… we ordered quite a bit… and all the food came out quick and it was all delicious. The Kobe beef and Mac n cheese were probably my favorite items on the happy hour menu. Oh yeah… tuna poke tacos? Whatever those were called… were good also. Overall…walked out very happy! Good food… good service… very little wait time. Can’t complain! Would come here again for happy hour.

It’s been at least 5 years since I’ve last been here, but from what I could remember, it was pretty chill. With those warm Sacramento summer nights, this roof top bar makes a great hang out. I do remember a DJ and people dancing too and the music wasn’t bad at all. They were actually playing more oldies that night which I actually like haha. When people not from Sac ask what’s a good bar to check out, I always mention this place because it left a good impression in my mind. Now I just gotta go back again and see if it still lives up to how I last remembered it.

The best thing about this place is: valet parking! Because there is absolutely NOWHERE to park around the building! The paid parking around is more expensive from the valet parking, which is only $ 7.00! Nice and convenient. The guys working are very pleasant and brought our cars out before we even asked! Impressive. Moving on… as we approached the NEVER ending line, and were about to complain, one of the bouncers approached us and let us in before the whole line. I wasn’t aware they had somewhat of a face control issue, but it definitely worked in our favor. Conclusion about the line: dress to impress, and you’ll be just fine without the wait:) The negative part about the line for the rest of the people: LINESARELONG… if you are not on the guest list or reserved VIP, chances of you getting in fast are slim. For non-smokers, it’s yucky… as people wait, smoking is allowed in line. Inside: pretty classy… a few fire-pits… 2 full bars… lots of VIP seating. Lots of outside room. People are mostly great! As in many other clubs, I don’t see too many drunks falling on the floor or throwing up. In fact, I never saw anyone over-acting or being that crazy. The bouncers do an AWESOME job in controlling the public to behave and act their age. Love to see the older crowd there, which just shows more of a mature level and people that really are not there for drama… but just to relax. Very nice atmosphere(for the most part). Many beautiful people… No, this is now a place that you can compare to extremely high end, but it definitely is something nice in Sac-town and above many other night-clubs around. About the bars… lines are too long! they NEED to hire more help! I don’t like waiting 10 minutes for someone to finally ask what I want. Bathrooms: very clean… therefore, too many girls taking selfies lol… Overall, I would deff prefer this place over any other in downtown!

If you want to be treated like garbage, The Mix is the perfect place to go. My friends and I reserved a booth at The Mix to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We arrived around 10:30 pm, walked up to the entrance, and were stopped by a foppish gentleman in a high school tuxedo who told us to «just get in line.» We told him that we had a booth reserved, but he was more interested in looking like a dumbass in a suit he probably found at Gap Kids. Finally someone in our group asked why we were waiting in line(on a Wednesday) when we had reserved a booth and ‘bottle service’. As soon as the bouncers heard those words(the bouncers are simple and only understand those two words), they promptly called for someone that wasn’t a complete moron. A real person came down and apologized for the bouncers and showed us upstairs to our booth. We sat down and waited only 25 minutes for our«hostess» to arrive with the bottle service. It took another 15 minutes for her to bring something other than orange juice and cranberry juice. When our $ 300 bottle of Grey Goose arrived(totally reasonable pricing at The Mix), I was pretty stoked. Well, I was stoked until: random greasy dudes started harassing us for drinks, a random girl tried stealing the bottle, and all the while«bouncers» were hanging around with their thumbs up each other’s asses and«couldn’t do anything» unless they saw it happen. Uh, try paying attention to your job for a second. We hit the dance floor, and the DJ played all our favorites(plus all the top music of the last decade!) in 15 second clips. Every 15 seconds a new song! With no transitions! Like a bizarre game of twister! Or maybe Monopoly: Terrible Club Edition! I don’t know whether to blame the DJ or The Mix. Maybe both. Everything else aside, the worst experience of the night happened at the end. At 1:50 sharp, the staff began telling people to politely«get out». We realized the time, so we made sure we had our stuff together because, hey, the place has got to close! Before we headed out of the club, one of my friends naively asked if she could use the restroom. The same foppish bouncer barked that«the upstairs bathrooms are closed» and that she«should try the downstairs bathroom.» Ha ha, ha ha ha. The joke is that there is no downstairs bathroom: the sad sloppy bouncer was referring to the street. He guided my friend downstairs to presumably piss on the street. We tried talking to the other bouncers, asking about using the restroom or even the«downstairs restroom» — they laughed. I guess that’s funny, treating your patrons with complete disrespect. One of them directed us to go use the bathrooms at Petra’s, which was by then closed for the night. One of the other staff-members said my friend could piss at his place, but only on his nights off, like in a sexual way. Mm, classy. All together: The Mix is terrible. Please don’t waste your money on this sad excuse for a club.

To the bouncer guy of average height who tied ur hair in a bun, u r the rudest SOB who doesn’t have to be a jerk when you check my ID and bending it, my husband just asked u not to bend my id when you checked it, u dont have to be an indecent human by bending our ID almost breaking it. If you dont want to let us in that is fine but no need to be rude about it. We can go somewhere else to have fun. Seriously dude not everyone out there is trying to fuck u over so stop being a sore loser and learn to be friendly for your own sake if you ever want to be anything more than a bouncer at MIX.

They have a great happy hour food menu that is good for sharing with groups. Their outdoor patio is what I think makes them one of the best spots for a larger group to hang after work– but only in the warmer months of course. I was just there and it started out nice but got a little cool and they have outdoor heaters but management told us they would not turn them on until 10pm for the nightclub goers. That I did not partially care for, but not much you can do about that. If you’re having a really good time you can always come for happy hour and stay for dancing a couple hours later without paying the cover– something to consider.

ALERT!!! Be Careful of Overcharges in Tip on your Credit Card… I used my credit card to pay for VIP services and was overcharged $ 90 extra in tip when gratuity was already included in the bill, plus the tips that were left thought-out the night. Luckily I checked the transaction and was able to get the money back from the credit card company. I called to speak with the manager… he did not have the receipt so my information was taken down with a promise to return my call the following evening. Unfortunately, I never received that phone call. I will not be naming any names… I had a great time overall celebrating my birthday. I just want the public to be more aware of their credit card/debit transactions, especially at the nightclubs! There are a lot of dishonest people out there. In spite of the overcharge, Mix provides a nice place to hang-out and lounge for a mature crowd. Two stars for that!

This place definitely does not deserve the rating it stands at. This is our closest feel to a classy, busy mature but fun club feel that you cannot find anywhere else in the Bay Area. I understand the door guys can be a bit tough and it is usually why a place gets rated poorly, but it is honestly why this place has a mature feel to it! Dress code is enforced and that’s what I love about it! We always get bottle service just because I like to have a place to sit and not deal with the hassle of going to the bar. What is great about this place is that once you get in(and if you don’t mind waiting in line), bottle service is actually not needed to enjoy a good time and the bar is really not two hard to get drinks at. The bartenders are of high quality with their skills and I usually enjoy whatever I request. The city(SF) you get bad tasting drinks and pay a lot more. Bottle service is a must in SF because the crowd is just bad. I definitely enjoy the Mix a lot more unless we start talking Vegas! I celebrated my man’s birthday here a few times and they always let us sneak in cupcakes or a cake for him and have helped surprise him with candles lit approaching our table. If you want a great cocktail waitress ask for Tiffany! She is the best and knows what she is doing. She’ll make bottle service a great experience. Music is always great especially when they mainly play Hip Hop. Saturday nights and Sunday’s are best here! I love the diversity of the crowd here and it’s a beautiful crowd! Everyone is nicely dressed and like I said it’s a Mature crowd. Highly recommend the Mix and also bottle service! If with a big group after paying for cover and a bunch of drinks at the bar… Combine the cost amongst your group and bottle service will make sense. Also no long line wait. They have an outside patio which is very enjoyable during Sacramento hot summer nights! Highly recommend this place! The owners also own The park. Another great club I recommend. They know how to do it. Regardless of the bad reviews this place is always busy, obviously people love it! One last note… Staff is not racist. Our group is very diverse and our group of friends has a mix of every nationality. They do judge clothes which I think is fair for a night club!

This place is a disgrace the staff is completely bias. If you don’t know the bouncers don’t bother or show up at 930. The games played here are despicable and I will never patronize or recommend this business. They say they are at capacity and let their friends in with leggings and sneakers. I drove 2 hours to meet up with ppl here for a birthday and could not get in with the dress code standards adhered to. Cookie is rude and gives favoritism to locals he knows personally. Don’t bother wasting time or money. Poor Poor poor customer service. Will never go back, 0 stars. Two thumbs down. The mix sucks!

I loved just about everything about this place. From start to finish! It was a sorority sister’s birthday so this was her choice spot. I’d like to attest that Sunday night is everything! Even though you may spend Monday regretting how you took too much advantage of the awesome $ 3 drink special that ends at midnight. Lol but what better reason to grumble about Monday than an awesome Sunday turn up?! Nevertheless, the bouncer was nice upon entering and exiting. I’m sure it’s part of his job or character, but he was possibly the sweetest bouncer I have EVER encountered. The bartenders and DJ were great as well(I recommend the better quality alcohol to avoid unnecessary hangovers — for those who have their doubts about drinking during the week and on Sunday)! The music was a mix of top 40, club classics, and hip hop. Kudos to the DJ for giving us something the folks with melanin can shake a tail feather to. Finally, the crowd was high energy and full of positive vibes. No drama just an overall great night. The bouncer remembered me as I left and wished me a good night. Now that’s some quality customer service! Hoping to spend my own birthday here when July comes. Thanks for an incredible experience Mix!

Well, well, well… I am not a fan of night clubs for a long list of reason. BUT a friend of mine invited me out and found myself standing in front of MIXX with a billion other people. Apparently the Wednesday before thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year here. The line was around the block and like I said, there were tons of people out front trying to haggle their way in. I guess I’m cute enough(lol) because one of the security guards let me in after my friends«vip list» name didn’t get in right in. However, during the time you saw the usual: fading the line, arguments about dress code, friends of friends slipping in here and there, etc. I got in after about 20 mins outside while the bouncer was checking the name I gave, saying it didn’t exist, and then just letting me in. I paid the $ 15 cover– meh… Whatever. I headed upstairs and of course it’s pretty pack. The whole right side is their bottle service, then a small dance floor and and outside patio area I didn’t get to check out. Mixx is nice inside but nothing jaw dropping. I had no issues at the bar or bathroom which was great and the DJ was playing a descent variety of music. Here’s my «so-what»: I would do MIXX again if I wanted to be in a night club(not likely) and it would only be if I had bottle service. It is true, a majority of people in here are on the better looking scale. But there are also a few Duds who make you wonder who they knew or were related to that let them in. I honestly had a so-so experience.

Even after reading very many reviews on Unilocal saying The Mix Staff is very Racist, I still decided to try it out for myself. Me and my friend(From Texas) wanted to go out Sunday night and have a drink or 2(I’m white, he’s black). Well we hopped in my Mercedes and arrived, found parking, then headed to the Entrance. It’s 45 degrees outside, no one in line, and the place looks dead. Before were asked for our I’d, one of the bouncers says, «it’s gonna be a minute just hang tight.» He turns around and immediately another bouncer looks at us and tells my friend his outfit is against dress code(His shoes), now mind y’all we just left the Roseville galleria where my friend bought a $ 1,499 Burberry Outfit. The bouncer says his $ 700 Burberry dress shoes are against dress code everything we had on was fit to perfection. I wanted to bust out laughing because it seemed like a joke. We were both dressed 10⁄10. I’ll never returns to The Mix or either of the owner restaurants(Firestone & Cafeteria 15L)

How could you not love the Mix? This is one of the best bars/nightclubs in Sac. It’s great for a happy hour, a date, a night out, or a group event. I’ve been here a few times and never been disappointed. First, I’ll start with the atmosphere. The outside patio is one of the best in downtown Sac. It’s very spacious, there’s lots of seating, there are heat lamps for when it’s cold, and there’s a great fire pit. The inside is great, too. There are plenty of places to sit, the bar is stocked to the max, and there’s enough space to dance when the mood is right. It’s also very clean, so don’t worry about feeling unhygienic. The staff is great. Everyone is super attentive and really friendly. They know the food and drink menus well, so feel free to ask questions. Tip well and they’ll remember you. The food is bomb. Go there during happy hour for half price apps. I highly recommend the chicken tacos, the mac n’ cheese, and the lamb frites. Stop by during happy hour to get your eat on, then stay for when the Mix really comes alive.

*happy hour review* The Mix has been a preferred choice for happy hour gatherings lately. 1. Happy hour ends at 7 pm! No need to be in a mad rush after work! 2. The Mix offers a menu of shareable bites; half off during happy hour! My favorites are the ahi tuna tacos and the gyro wraps to share. 3. Plush lounging and the upstairs, outdoor patio is awesome to enjoy Sac’s weather Overall, pretty chill and swanky atmosphere. I hear Wednesday/Sunday nights are the best nights to go for clubbing here, but I haven’t been!
