If you’re in the mood for some good old fashioned heart burn, and you want to enjoy the hell out of getting it, this is the spot for you! I know no other place in the area where you can order Freeto pie(if you’ve never had it you’re missing out). Or just cool off with a freeze. Hours are limited, but it’s a great stop off for a little slice of history.(And a little bit of delicious reflux)

I tried the orange freeze. Eh, it was okay. I read their pastrami sandwich is very good but I haven’t tried it.

Not a bad place to stop by for a quick bite to eat, but I must say in the summer it may not be worth the visit due to the heat. Ordered the cheese dog with swiss and an orange freeze, nothing special. The hot dog was easily something you can make at home with ballpark sausages and the orange freeze tasted like frozen minute maid orange juice. The only perk of this place would be that it’s mad cheap. Seems like from reviews, the place is known for its pastrami. Maybe next time I’ll give the pastrami a try.

The last time I was here was in high school. Its one of those places that get mixed into childhood memories and almost forgotten. Thankfully enough my memory was jogged by the heat. My food partner in crime, my daughters, always willing to accompany me took the challenge with smiles as big as the Kool Aid Man. Off we went, on one of those ass stuck to the car seat hot days. Perfect, perfect timing! My daughter gave me a funny look when we drove up to the orange shack posted on the corner of Stockton Blvd. I assured her she wouldn’t regret this pick. There were three people ahead of us, which gave me ample time to remember what I liked on the menu. Oh and to prepare myself for a brain freeze.(They have them sprinkly water misters that cool their waiting patrons down while they wait… bonus) When we got to the front of the line, I ordered a pineapple mango freeze and a pastrami sammie. Sure as night follows day, my girls ordered the same thing. Why do that do that??? Oh wells I guess I’m there food role model. Have I ever told you I have eyes bigger than my stomach? Well, to prove my point I totally forgot how big their large freeze is. When it came to me I tried to figure out how’d I get the whole thing plus the sammie shoved into my belly. The moment the delectable ice hit my tongue I forgot about the stomach logistics and dug right in. Whatever juices they use to flavor the ice are spot on. The mango tasted like mango as did the pina! The pastrami was just as I remembered. Soft warm buns(haha thats what she said) shoved with the most flavorful meat ever! I will have to say that as I neared the end of the sammie it got a little too salty for me. But I have a strange diet so too much salt for me might very well be just right for someone else. Nonetheless, I will be cramming more of those in my tummy over the summer! Look out 24hr fitness here I come!!! The most amazing feat that day was that I did tetris all of the large freeze and the sammie into my belly! I walked slowly to my car like a very content fattie, already planning on returning the next day. On a side note, there are only four or five tables to seat their guests so expect people circling them like vultures waiting for them to be empty. I have a small blanket I plan on using in the event that happens. There is a small patch of grass next to the stand, what a perfect place for a picnic!!! Okay, that’s all I can write about them or I fear I am gonna get too hungry and rush over there right this very minute.

My son and I walked over to explore, while waiting for our car to be smogged. We were hungry and both had the pastrami sandwich, which was featured as their specialty. My sandwich was stacked high with chopped pastrami and a slice of cheese, which is seventy five cents extra. We both enjoyed our sandwiches and will come back to try the freezes soon. I do not believe this is considered diet food.

Very disappointed– I used to be a regular, been back twice in the last 2 weeks, now I know why I haven’t been back more. 1. Out of Orange– seriously??, OK, I will have the pineapple. UGH, big mistake, freezer burnt taste, dry, really horrid, threw it away. 2. OK, gotta try the pineapple again— wrong. still freezer-burnt taste(really strong) and a smell from the plastic cup– Really a shame, I grew up with Merlino’s and this is not that place. I work very close by, and I will not be back–

Yummy but not good for you. Seating is sparse and has flies. Strange people may also have annoying conversations with you. I will return!

Yeah, that’s right, I gave it 5 stars and I haven’t even seen it at its peak yet. This little stand(with 3 sidewalk tables) on Stockton Blvd may seem dinky, but oh! the food! Go for an orange freeze(though I hear rave reviews for many of the other flavors too). You can even get a scoop of ice cream added for FREE. What a deal! And what flavor! I got an orange freeze and the flavor was so rich. I wonder if it’s made from real oranges. I got a cheese dog(they also have much-loved pastrami sandwiches too). It was a quality hot dog. I swear the bread was even toasted a little. You can add your desired amount of ketchup/mustard/relish/peppers/onions after you receive your meal. It’s like a beach-side food stand(minus the sand & surf) and the summer vibe is strong here. I feel like it would be at its best during the hothot days of summer, but even now it’s definitely a place to make sure you visit. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot — the second time I came here, the owner was feeling nice/apologetic(the order before ours was enormous and took some time to complete) and he gave us free samples of the fries(delicious! I think I will order these the next time I go back. Pretty firm with a great flavor combination.) and the meat used in the pastrami sandwiches(super thin/julienned strips of lightly sauced and tender meat.) This place is friendly, quality(and accepts credit cards) and brings to mind carefree summer days. Just LOVE.

Go for the Pastrami Sandwich Stay for the Freezes ! The Pastrami Sandwich is a glorious and simple delight. Packed with meat that has been julienned(makes eating less messy) and with just a touch of juicy sauce that is soaked up by the warm soft bread. Go forth. Eat Pastrami. But eat it at THEFREEZE !

Loved taking DerPoopster out for a walk and stopping here. Hot dogs are meh. But the freezes? Win, win and more win. I love that you can do combos here, half orange half lemon, half lemon half strawberry. Don’t matter. All good in the hood. Right across the street from the UCD hospital. Bring a doll and bring whoever is in their a freeze. Take credit cards. Nothing quite like this joint. Love it.

Please go out of your way and come here on a blistering hot summer afternoon. You won’t be dissapointed. Get a medium freeze, the orange is amazing but the cherry will leave you speechless! I live a block away from here and we finally stopped by to eat a freeze, check out my pictures. The Large size is massive so unless you’re really hot or really love sweet icy things then go for it. I want to try their food but right now I’m satisfied to leave this place to my designated freeze cool off place. Oh, you’ll enjoy the misters they turn on during the day as well!

It’s hard to review something you’ve never had before and probably will never have again. I find it a moot point to consume sweets. Call me what you will, but I figure if i’m alloted x amounts of calories a day, I may as well save some for alcohol purposes. Hence, I don’t care for sweets and treats, I would rather save my calories for beer and white rice. With that being said, I came here during a DMV session. I lost my id in Vegas and discovered I had to personally visit a DMV branch to get a new one. With my number being B332 and them calling B110, I figured I had time to kill. My boyfriend was intent on getting a «freeze.» I hesitantly pulled into the lot and ordered a small strawberry, he ordered a med orange. MIne had chunks of strawberry in it and was an icy yumminess. If you like sweets and treats, come here. If you’re stuck at the DMV, come here.

So I have to be honest, I had never heard of this place, but my good friend had mentioned it to me and so I had to pay the Original Orange Freeze Stand a visit. They had so many flavors that I couldn’t decide and the nice man offered to let me try all of the flavors, to help make my decision a little easier(score — I get to try all of them for free!). If I remember correctly, I blended strawberry with lemon and it was simply delicious. Talk about a sweet treat to ease the intense Sacramento heat. Definitely have this on my list of places to visit when Spring/Summer rolls around again.

I woke up this morning & really wanted a pastrami sandwich. Not a reuben, but the kind I use to get from the tiny Mexican crap holes on the corner in LA– so I took to Google & this is what I found. + I went at 2 pm on Saturday, it wasn’t crowded at all. + the sandwich was bare– like I like it, just juicy meet and soft bread w/a pickle & pepperonchini on the side. Although you can add lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sauerkraut, etc. + fries were perfect, thick & seasoned. — The bread was good, but could have been better if it was placed on the grill to warm for a few secs. -/+ I would have liked more meat(not that the sandwich was skimpy) but when I’m craving something, I don’t want to stop until I’m sick of it, or vomiting(but that’s another blog). Honestly I could have eatin another, so I’ll probably be back in a few days.

DOOD. I’ve been hanging out at the UC Davis medical center for 2 days now… and god led me out the double doors to the Original Orange Freeze Stand. We ordered 3 jumbo chili cheese dogs and a jumbo cheese dog…$ 20 and a maze full of condiments later… heaven. TRULY an old school original thats brought me back to when junk food was pure. I mentioned heaven right? Well, being that its Good Friday today and I devoured nothing but meat — I may get an ass whoopin at the gates… I really couldn’t help it though. When we saw this place, we completely forgot it was a NOMEATDAY!

I used to ALWAYS get an orange freeze when we left the fair but I haven’t had an Orange Freeze here since shortly after the old state fair grounds closed down. Did have a couple when in town about 10 years ago at the one they had for a time on Folsom Blvd. It was good. I always loved it back in the day(spent the first half of my childhood right down Broadway in Oak Park). We’ll have to come back to town and check it out with my kid. 5 stars for being great back when.

My dad first ate an Orange Freeze when he was a little kid at the old fairgrounds during the State Fair and our family has been going to Merlino’s ever since to enjoy this cold summer treat. There even is a picture somewhere of my grandpa standing behind Ronald Reagan from back when he was governor of California. I’m particularly partial to a half and half combination of orange and strawberry, but the other flavors are quite good — pineapple, lemon, raspberry… The hot dogs are plain, simple and fantastic. I’ve never tried anything else on the menu — why mess with perfection? Nothing tastes more like home to me and I can’t wait to go back to Sac this summer and pick up one of these little lovelies first thing.

This colorful little food stand never fails to capture my attention when driving by on a hot Sacramento summer afternoon. The orange trailer appears like the mirage of an oasis, offering cool relief under its swirling blankets of water droplet mist. Although I never tried their Orange Freeze on a hot summer day, I have managed to sample their hot dogs and sandwiches during some unseasonably beautiful November weather. The outdoor seating is of huge appeal on days too nice to spend entirely indoors. I made my way down here while attending a Biophotonics symposium held at the Oak Park Research Building just a block or so away. Hot dogs are decent but a bit skimpy. I’d order two next time to fill the void. They sling a pretty tasty Pastrami Reuben, though. I did try the Orange Freeze since it came with a combo meal, but I’m sure it won’t completely hit the spot until Hellfire reigns down from the sky, as it is wont to do on certain overbearing triple-digit Sacramento summer days.
