Words cannot describe how pleased me and my boyfriend were with our experience here. We were thinking of doing a movie night, but didn’t find anything playing that was worth the theater price. We remembered this really cool place, aka Public House Theater, and decided to give it a go. From the moment we walked in, we were in love. The beer list is decent — anyone with bikedog on tap has my vote — and they are affordable. It’s a small place, but it goes so far as to make it more informal and fun. They were playing Sisters(very funny at times, but overall meh). The place was empty, so we got prime seating on recliners. You could hear the bar area, but I can’t say I cared. We ordered the nachos and got more drinks as the movie went on; nachos were delicious! I think this is our new home away from home for movie nights!

Where to start. Sometimes in life a place comes along that almost feels your soul is connected to somehow. Not just a business. And that what has been created down around the corner tucked away off Stockton blvd. This place is magical, its like the owner(jackie) is a body snatcher and took all my ideas of the perfect theature and brought it to fruition. Thank you P.H.T. for giving me the living room i always wanted. Oh and by the way they have maube the best beer seclection anywhwere ive been privy to in Sacramento thus far. I only pray more businesses open like this in the near future and are lucky enought to have a staff and owner as amazing as The Public House Theatre. Thank you for the best St. Pattys day of my life!!!

Have never heard of this concept until my friend introduced me to this place. Entrance is in the back of the building which I thought was weird but I can see why they did it that way because the theater is in the front. Great selection of beers on tap, mostly local craft which is nice to see support of local businesses. Theater equipment(projector, sound system) is top of the line. The décor is nice and makes you feel welcome. Great place to grab a beer and catch the game or a movie if you’re ever in the neighborhood.

I had no idea what to expect prior to our Holiday viewing of Christmas Vacation but nothing says kitschy like Uncle Eddy on the big screen. I knew friends had been raving about this spot, the reviews were excellent and it recently reopened which means there’s definitely some heart behind the project.
The location is easy to miss on your first visit and we didn’t realize there’s a small private lot entrance on 55th street. Once through the unassuming back door, we were immediately welcomed by staff and patrons seated at the long bar. The movie house doubles as a neighborhood watering hole and the bar laughter continued throughout the movie which was comforting background noise. The theater room is small but accommodating and there are a variety of seats to chose from. A giant beanbag chair was lovingly dragged front and center which created the best seat in the house for a young girl who enjoyed swan diving into the bag every time she ran back to grab a handful of popcorn from her brother. That’s what makes this place so unique, it’s like watching a film in your extremely large living room with great friends and endless snacks. Don’t worry about interrupting anyone when you get up to grab another craft beer and feel free to laugh out loud. And to the owner and her vision– two thumbs way up!

So happy PHT is open again! My friends and I had a great time there yesterday. Lots of craft beers to chose from and a new comfortable low bar area for folks like me in a wheelchair, or people who prefer a chair vs barstool. Also there’s a new handicap spot in the parking lot! Yay! Looking forward to movies and snacks in this comfortable neighborhood bar. Cheers!

Stopped by to watch the 49er game on the big screen and have a couple of beers, what a great place. PHT had a great selection of Micro beers, wine and oh the ultimate nachos loaded with cheese, chicken, bacon, olives, jalapeños, sour cream and green onions was fabulous. Casual atmosphere, nice people, great food… Definitely coming back. FYI someone put the hours in wrong, they’re open everyday from 3 to 10, closed Tuesday and Wednesday

Public House Theater is a nifty little bar and theater, tucked away at Tahoe Park. For a $ 1 pass, you can see as many movies as you want for a whole year! The venue has a friendly inviting atmosphere, the crowd seemed like mostly regulars from nearby. Their bar/snack bar had some interesting beer choices(we got a macadamia nut stout and a custom mixed«black and blue» stout– yum!) and the prices were pretty cheap. The bartendress even knocked a few bucks off one of the beers due to excessive foam. We took our drinks into the cozy theater room, which can seat around 40 people between it’s stadium seats, recliner chairs, ottomans and couches.(And a giant beanbag chair in front, woot!!) PHT focuses on classic films and there’s even a suggestion board for future screenings. 2 tickets to Monty Python & The Holy Grail and multiple beers for less than $ 20 = great Friday night out. Give Public House Theater a try, you’ll be glad you did.

The Public House Theater is a great, new, unique addition to the Sacramento area. Ever feel like just having a laid back night out without having to get super dressed up, being amidst crowds and braking the bank? If you’re just looking for a few drinks, snacks, a comfy spot and don’t mind seeing a(good ‘ol) classic movie then the Public House Theater will satisfy your needs. This past week I had the pleasure of a warm, cozy night out for the screening of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I hadn’t seen this movie in years so it was one of those movies that bring back memories from the first few times you saw it then its totally okay if you fall asleep toward the end because you already know what happened. The Public House Theater houses a bar, flat screen tvs and theater with a combo of hard wooden chairs and lush comfy couches and futons. At the bar, there are beers on tap($ 3 – 5) and wine($ 5 – 7). They also have your typical movie snacks– popcorn and candy as well as pizza, sandwiches and the night we were there, quesadillas. Movie tickets are $ 4. The staff behind the bar were welcoming and super friendly. The venue was nice and warm and bathrooms were clean. For a chill night out I would visit the Public House again whether it be for a movie or just a drink. Two other things to note: Parking is limited. They do offer rental packages for parties.

I’ve been hearing more about the concept they have: Show classic movies with food and drinks including alcohol. Public House does it well, and I was happy to see what they do there. Located in an a very unsuspecting part of the neighborhood,(I drove right past it with it being so dark and rainy that night) and their parking lot is play pen tiny, but there is sporadic neighborhood street parking. This is definitely a labor of love, as the owners give off a very inviting and homely vibe. They have quite a few beers on tap for a good price, wine, and an array of food and of course fresh popcorn! The theater has the usual theater seats, but also recliners, large bean bags, and futons to make it like you were hanging out at home or a friends place, but with a huge tv screen and sound! The movie selection varies all of the time, we were able to enjoy National Lampoon’s Christmas Vaction that night, and who doesn’t love that classic? I’m very happy to see such a cool concept in Sacramento, I hope you will get to enjoy it too!

I visited the Public House Theater for a Unilocal event recently. We watched«National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.» The setting was really chill and laid back. Instead of your typical rows of chairs at a regular theater, you have your choice of chairs, bean bags, and even a couch! My date ended up talking to the bartenders and found out that they host a lot of the football and baseball games! Which is exciting for sports’ fans. Nothing sounds better than a comfy home styled setting with a humongous screen, and an ice cold beer in your hand. It was a bit confusing trying to find this place while driving at night and in the rain. My first thought was, oh crap, this place is closed. Then I took a closer look and realized that the entrance is on the opposite side. They have their own private parking lot, however it is a bit small. Luckily, there is a good amount of street parking extremely near by! They offer beer, wine, and food as well! This is definitely not your typical movie theater. Can’t wait to come back!

Came here tonight 12/16/2014, for a Unilocal Screening of the«Holiday classic» Christmas Vacation. What a cool venue, filled with nice folks, serving delicious beverages and snacks. In its simplest term it’s a neighborhood bar with a screening room. But it seems so much more. The screening room is very comfy with traditional movie theater seating or you can relax on recliners or comfy coaches. The picture and sound quality exceeded my expectations. They obviously put some money into the electronics. This place seems like a great venue to rent out for a private event or just a cool place to hang out and see what’s playing on the big screen.

I really enjoyed my time at The Public House Theater, I just think they need a few tweaks before giving more stars. Good — Nice comfy chairs like a bean bag, recliner, armchair, couch, etc. — Great picture and sound quality. — Clean bathrooms. — Super cute interior lobby and bar. — Generous wine pours.(My favorite!) — Tasty snacks. — Friendly employees. Not So Good — Majority of chairs are hard wood folding chairs. Ouch! — Need more chairs; theater looks a little empty. — Need doors or sound barrier between lobby and movie room. — Brighter street signage. — Better website. What’s playing? I think that The Public House Theater is off to a good start. There is really nothing like it in the Sacramento area and I can see them really taking off with some minor changes. I would come back here to see another movie because they tend to play older movies which I love, and I work in the area so it’s in a convenient location.

It’s so exciting to have a place like this right in my neighborhood! I’ll get the negative parts out of the way first: — No cider, only beer and wine. I love cider! Please to have cider! — The curtain barrier between the screening room and the bar area. We could hear every conversation happening out there. — Wooden chairs in the screening room were rather uncomfortable for 90 minutes. Great parts! — Awesome staff with quick service and a smile. — Great, simple décor. — Just a great place all around. I can’t wait to come back here!

What a breath of fresh air over the traditional 16 screen movie theater. I never knew about this place even thought I lived right down the street and drove by it so many times. Last night Jeremy and I went to a Unilocal event and saw Planes, Trains & Automobiles. I loved the theater, the setting is not your usual seating but nice comfortable couches, a big bean bag, wide chairs with enough room to snuggle with your honey. The fun, friendly, comfortable atmosphere is one thing but what really makes Public House Theater stand out is their customer service. We sat down to watch the movie and this lovely lady came and took our drink and snack order. I sat right there watching the movie and had my beverage and popcorn brought straight to me. Now that is customer service at a whole new level. And they were super nice to, bent over backwards to make sure everyone was comfortable and happy. They even went so far as to climb on a chair and turn the fan off above our heads because someone complained they were cold. This will be regular stop for us from now on.

This is great. It’s like watching a movie in a friends giant man cave. Comfy seats, great beer/wine and friendly staff. What more could you want? The sound was great, as was the picture. They obviously spent a chunk of change on their setup. The nachos were good, they have a bunch of other food but I didn’t get to try it this time. I really liked the beer selection, the wine list looked good too. The mimosa was yummy. The New Glory Porter was good but the Old Chub Scotch Ale was by far my favorite. I see that they show football here, I’m going to have to check that out. I will definitely be back with friends for football or to check out a cult classic. If Unilocal does hold a monthly event here, you can count me in.

There is finally a place in Sacramento where you can watch movies and drink beer! I’m sorry Sacramento residents, but you don’t know what you’ve been missing. Jackie, the owner, is terrific. She’s really friendly and she has a fantastic team of ladies working with her. I would come back any time because the service behind the bar is excellent. They love having new guests! So, they have wicked clean bathrooms, a bar with craft beer and wine, popcorn, and small food offerings. The theatre is small, but clean, and really nice audio for the space. The parking lot is pretty limited, around 12 spaces, but plenty of parking on the surrounding streets available. If you’re lost, look for the food mart on the corner! The Public House Theater sign is not lit up, but the food store on the corner is lit up light a Christmas tree, you can find that for sure. My only suggestion is they need to do some sound buffering between the theatre room and the bar area. I love hearing the vivacious bar back ladies, but it was echoing throughout the lobby and into the movie during the quiet scenes. I would think they would want to keep the really good energy going in the bar, so maybe just adding a door and dimming the bathroom hall lights a bit would do the trick. Or maybe adding on an area with a curtain that would keep the theatre dark, and then patrons could open and close a door to keep some of the background noise in the front. Or, don’t change a thing because the movie was great, the staff was wonderful, the bar offerings are excellent and we can’t wait to come back!

Though there were a couple items I think Public House could change up while they’re still ironing out the kinks, overall, this is a wonderful concept and I plan to be a frequent guest! Let’s get the couple knocks out of the way first: 1. The noise. Leading into the screening room, there are two curtained entryways. The entryway nearest the restroom was basically an open acoustical vault of noise– during any quiet part of the movie, you could hear very loud, very animated bap-bap-bap-bap drunk valley girl conversation from the hall. I think it would be fine with a door in place or some other noise-diminishing barrier. 2. The seats. At least for me, the couch/armchair seating was an exciting perk of attending a movie here, but there just aren’t enough and they filled up immediately! Besides that, the regular chairs are really not comfortable– my butt was pretty sore by the end, though, GRUDGINGLY, I don’t have a lot of cushion going on there. Ideally, I would suggest adding some pallets or other risers and including a second row of couch type seating! Otherwise, I think even throwing some additional cushions down onto the regular chairs would be great :) Other than those minor issues, I had a great time at this theatre. The staff was friendly and served up fast, and I was pleasantly surprised by the snack food options(nachos were not just chips and cheese, but a full dish of olives, jalapenos, salsa, cilantro, and optional meat). The beer and wine selection was another pleasant surprise! Husband had a fantastic hoppy beer while I enjoyed myself some sugar sweet moscato. Prices are just amazing, and perfect for a date night or group outing with friends when you’re not trying to drop a lot of dough. I’m absolutely in love with the atmosphere, very cozy and friendly, obsessed with the industrial feel, and very conducive to conversation and mingling; I talked more to my Unilocal compatriots than I have at any previous event. All in all, aside from my minor suggestions, I’m a brand-new fan and can’t wait to bring friends here to check out Public House!

This place is the best! It’s tucked away in a great little neighborhood and the owner Jackie is always inviting and polite! There are cold beers on tap and she usually has some really good IPA’s or a local brew on tap. And there’s movies!!! I think the schedule is listed online, but I could care less cuz they are usually always a good classic. I watched a Giants game here and it was AWESOME, but I’m not sure if this is going to be a sports place. The sound system is great and the service is wonderful! I highly recommend checking this place out!!!

I just paid this new theater/bar a visit and, just like a great movie, they’ve already got me hooked. It’s a place I can satisfy three of my greatest pleasures(movie viewing, sports viewing and beer drinking) in the most unlikely area of the most unlikely neighborhood of Sacramento. The theater just opened. It used to be a grocery store and is part of a weathered old building that has been home to a steadily changing number of tiny businesses over the years. Owner and Operator Jackie has turned it into a spacious theater for roughly 50 people with plenty of comfortable seating like bean bag chairs and couches and a large screen equipped with an excellent surround-sound system. As you enter there is a bar with a full array of candies, sodas and snacks for sale, as well as 4 – 5 micro-brews, wine, and a big screen TV. Jackie and staff are beyond friendly and more than happy to accommodate their guests, many of whom seem to be folks from the immediate neighborhood. While you can tell they are still getting things up and running(license to serve food is soon to come) and really nailing down their concept(they’ll soon charge $ 4 for movies and they take suggestions for second-run flicks on a board outside the theater), I see a great future for this promising and refreshing concept. Stop in sometime and you may just get hooked yourself.
