Great latte, thanks for the special addition. Thanks Mike! You always make my morning special when I start with son of a bean!!!

I decided to come here based on the name. Being the relatively ‘strange’ individual I am, i figured the owner would be just like me with a name like Son of a Bean. Just let me say that I loved the ambiance, the people and the vibe that I got here. Defintely very welcoming and friendly environemnt! PRICE Pricing was just fine compared to what you’ll expect to pay– my mocha was only a few bucks PARKING just fine, no complaints here CLEANLINESS: Very well maintained, and it looks like they took it pretty seriously, like they clean it more than once a day type deal. OVERALL: Great experience, one of my new favorite places for cofee in Sac!

So this place is rated really well, and I am thinking that my experience may be an exception to the rule, but I wasn’t as impressed with this place as some of my fellow Unilocalers. I got there early on a Friday morning(7:30-ish) and based on the reviews of others, decided to get the flat white. I was excited to try their baked goodies, but they had only a few in the case. I decided to get the espresso muffin(kind of different, so what they hell?). The guy behind the counter may have been having an off day, but he seemed a little impatient for me to make my selection, even though there was no line. I placed my order and it comes up… the smallest cup of coffee I have ever seen. It did state that the flat white was 8 oz, but I guess I just did not visualize how small it was. But if it is good, who cares, right? So I try it… and immediately start to look around for Splenda. Flat I guess means non-sweetened. My babied, Western palate needs SUGAR! Also, the parking situation sucks. As does trying to turn around because of the light rail. All being said, I think I am going to try this place another day with a coworker and see if I can pump up my rating. The local art all over the place was rad and I want to spend more time looking at it!

I really really wanted to love the coffee, but I got caramel blended drink and it was terrible. I barely took three sips and it made me sick. I don’t know if its the product or what but it was not for me. However, the people are amazing and the place is cozy. I love that they support local art so I’ll be back to check that out.

The only place to get good coffee north of the river. Really outstanding drip coffee from Chocolate Fish, nice atmosphere and a friendly owner. If you’re in Natomas or the Heights, this is where you must go!

I’m so glad I «found» this place thanks to you fellow Unilocalers. I had a training just round the corner and it was one of those 109 degree days when we broke for lunch. Seeing this café with welcoming outdoor signage made me feel like one of those cartoon characters that sees a palm tree and fresh spring water in the dessert, bulgy eyes and everything 8-) The coffee is Chocolate Fish, so it’s top notch. I also had a pre-crafted chicken salad with a side of house-made Italian dressing that was fresh and filling, a bran blackberry muffin from Magpie, 2 ice cold glasses of water. I also enjoyed the free, no-fuss Wifi. Ambiance is cool and also really homey. Michael, the owner, treats people well, no matter their class– not all business owners are like this when woolly characters come in the use the bathroom. He was kind. He also puts up neighborhood art on the walls of young unknown artists– all for sale and quite good. I have my eye on a piece that I will purchase next time I come in because I can’t get it out of my head. The young artists get 100% of their sale, so keep that in mind next time you stop by SOB. Oh, and he serves Gunther’s ice cream, and has a venue space in the back that I think seats 200 peeps. I wish it was closer to home because there is so much love in this place, and the coffee, food, pastries, and energy is rare and damn good. A solid café. I’m sold.

This was my first time here, I must say I will be back! The atmosphere was awesome, the coffee was great I got a tuxedo and I must say its up there as one of the best. The line was short staff was friendly. It’s really cool seeing the art from local artist. Come for the coffee and stay for the atmosphere. I didn’t try the food they had hit the muffins looked really good. There is a nice seating area outside. On a day like today it would be perfect. I will be back for sure I’m a new SOB(son of a bean)!

Love the vibe here. The location is a little out of the way for most people, but once you’re there you feel at home. MIchael is a great guy and I’d be willing to bet you’ve got something in common with him. He seems very involved in the community. And the artwork inside is pretty high-caliber too. But wait, it’s a coffee shop, so I should probably mention the coffee. Sacramento is blessed to have several fantastic purveyors of coffee, and I would add this one to the list. Anyone making such a list should visit Son of a Bean. Most of the customers I’ve seen in my visits are regulars who have already figured this out.

The coffee and customer service are excellent! Two very winning combinations. Coffee — I ordered a mocha with latte art, and it exceeded my expectations. At first, I thought the price was a little expensive and was worried it would be too sweet(like at Starbucks), however, after the first sip, it was well worth the price and not too sweet at all. It really was perfect, especially when they make beautiful art with the foam. They serve Chocolate Fish coffee and pastries from Magpie. I ordered a bacon scone, which was nice and tasty as well. Customer service — this is a family owned shop and the owner was very nice, patient, and friendly. He even let me use his own iPhone charger! Ambiance — the shop is decorated with nice artwork from the new art gallery next door. It’s a great place to sit down, relax, read, or hang out with friends. I also love the clever name of the coffee shop. One thing I disliked is that the menu board does not have any prices. I would definitely recommend this shop to all coffee lovers.

My boyfriend and I went to check out this coffee shop since we were in the area. We came an hour before closing and the owners were really welcoming. The ambiance of the café is super chill. Coffee is amazing. The owners of the shop are really chill and friendly. The fact that it’s a family owned café just adds on to that bonus factor. Love the art pieces.

Being a true blue and green Seattlite transplant to the Sacramento area its fair to say I have deep affection for the ABC’s of life: art, beer, and coffee. Son Of a Bean more than delivers on the art and coffee love. As soon as you walk into this shop you feel at ease. This family owned business is free of the pretentious atmosphere that you might feel at so called«upscale» cafes. Michael, the proprietor of the shop, is kind and treats you like a friend the moment you step through the door. Another great aspect of the shop is that the décor is supplied by local artist artwork. The coffee is delicious of course. Just try it for yourself! Thanks Michael.

This was our last stop of the Caffeine Crawl. I was looking forward to coming here because I’ve had it bookmarked for months. The interior is chill and the walls are sprinkled with pieces from local artists which I loved. They serve Chocolate Fish coffee, which is great since I don’t live near a CF location. We were served an affagato made with vanilla bean ice cream from Gunthers(a local favorite) which was strong and creamy. My sister and I have weekly ‘coffee dates’ and we almost always visit local shops over chains. We look forward to adding Son to our list. It’s easy to miss this place if you’re not looking for it. It’s down the street from Uptown Café, across the street from the Sac News and Review building. Check it out if you’re in the area. I will be coming back to try their Mexican Mocha.

Went here because it was close to the clinic my grandma goes to. Found this place on Unilocal. It’s down del paso right before the 160 freeway towards downtown. Walked in and it’s really nice. There’s art everywhere. Really friendly workers and helpful too. Walked up to the counter because it was 12 in the afternoon and no one was at the place. There was a menu I could look at. I ordered three coffees for my mom, grandma, and aunt. The guy asked if I wanted cream and sugar and i told him yes. I don’t drink coffee but other coffee shops offer teas or chai lattes but they didn’t have much of a variety. Just a chai latte and a few iced tea. I didn’t care for either so I asked if they had hot chocolate and they did. Went back to the car and my mom said this is black coffee… Ahahah so I thought he was going to put cream and sugar in it but he didn’t, that’s my fault I didn’t check. The hot chocolate was good but it wasn’t sweet, which was still good. I felt like the whip cream was what made the hot chocolate sweet. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . But if I’m ever in the area again I’ll probably stop by for the art and a hot chocolate.
