My friend and I came here for dinner around 8pm for dinner on a weekday after grabbing boba at Cool Bar Tea. First off, the service here needs a lot of work. One of the waitresses doesn’t speak any English so she wasn’t very helpful. Also, even though there was only 4 other parties it took us a while to get helped. I eventually had to whip out my Cantonese but that didn’t make the service any faster. It took a really long time for us to get our food after ordering. The scallion pancake was undercooked and a bit cold and soggy. The pork was decent. Overall, it was a slightly disappointing experience.

Very expensive than usual. I got the sezchuan cold noodles which was delicious!!! But I also got spicy numbing beef noodle soup. It was good but as I continued to eat it the taste of it made my tongue tingle. It was one of the most odd feeling on my tongue and made me not eat to continue eating it. I went back to eating the cold noodles and the vinegar in that cured my tongue feeling. I love spicy and I t wasn’t because it was spicy! It wasn’t even spicy enough for me. It was weird. The rest of the party I came with felt the same way with the tongue.

Food is authentic and reasonably flavorful, but nothing extraordinary. The prices are pretty affordable too. Service is not the worst but certainly not impressive. The waiters didn’t speak English that well so we didn’t receive sufficient information to order unfamiliar food, which resulted in us ordering the«safer» choices. Also, they forgot to bring us our rice twice. Smh. Other than that, the interior is beautiful, clean and spacious. Parking is easy so that’s nice. Overall, whether or not you come here will depend solely on a few factors: if you want a beautiful looking interior that’s clean and spacious, and food that is authentic with decent service then this may be the place for you. However, if you are looking for great service, more popularized Chinese food, and a lively atmosphere then this is probably not the place for you.

Came here on Monday and then again Friday. Monday I had the Cumin Lamb lunch special which was really good. Nicely cooked, fresh. The sauteed onions were perfect. The beef fried rice was on point. They gave me a free sample of their cold cuisine, pig ears and stomach. Loved it. I came back Friday and had the Crispy Spicy Pig Intestines. To die for. Delicious!!! Excellent flavor. I even ate the chili peppers as they were nice and toasty and crunch, excellent blend with the rice. One of my new spots I’ll be visiting more often.

I’m not sure where the chef is from, but the staff were speaking Cantonese with each other… that just goes to show that it may not be truly authentic Szechuan, but somewhat close. This was evidenced by the tan tan noodle that was not very spicy and yet not that peanut-y. It was a dish that was a bit lost and didn’t know where it was. Not only that, but they served it with a big knot of stuck-together noodle. Rather unprofessional. Lamb skewers — lamb was a bit too tough for my liking. The flavor wasn’t bad though; the lamb wasn’t too game-y if you know what I mean. Chongqing Chicken(辣子鸡丁) — BEST dish! There were tons of chilis and spices and the chicken was nice and crispy. They were also the perfect bite-size, and I couldn’t stop popping them into my mouth. Dangerous stuff. Assorted mushroom clay pot — authentically SPICY. Unfortunately, the waitress was unable to explain what exactly the difference between dry pot(干锅) and fragrant pot(香锅) was when we asked. Maybe her Mandarin wasn’t as good as her Cantonese.

We came on Friday night and the restaurant was filled with Chinese people, which I took as a good sign. The menu is pretty big and has a good variety of meat and seafood dishes. Almost all of the dishes are spicy and there are chili pepper icons next to pretty much everything. I guess that is why they are called a SPICYHOUSE. I picked the dishes that looked good in the photos. We ordered the frog legs, spicy boiled beef, and pork dumplings. I wanted to come here to try the soup dumplings or the dumplings in spicy chili oil, but the waitress said they only had the pork dumplings. My fiancé ordered the frog legs. I don’t normally eat frog legs on the daily to know what’s good, but these were tasty enough. I think they would have tasted better with more sauce or veggies in the dish. The spicy boiled beef looked tasty on the menu photo, but was not what I expected at all. It was literally a large soup bowl of beef, cabbage, and bean sprouts with spicy chili oil as the broth. It was good and spicy, but VERY oily. The pork dumplings were okay. It came with 12 dumplings and a vinegar soy sauce. They weren’t the best or worst that I have had, but probably the best dish of our dinner. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but I was not really impressed.

I love this place. The food here is so addicting to my palate that I had to come back after 1 week just to eat the food here again. I love how my entire mouth gets numbed and the flavor of the dishes are so yummy. Im even thinking about moving to sac just to be closer to this place lol! If you love spicy foods then you need to check out this place!

I seriously think this place is underrated, I mean it’s not the best Sichuanese food for sure.(Well I was born and raised in Sichuan so of course I’ve had way better ones.) But it should be at least ranked in top 5 among the Sichuanese style restaurants in Sacramento area. The dishes are prepared with care and all the signature dishes in Sichuanese cooking are offered, such as the couple’s delight, spicy clay pot, tan tan noodles, ma po tofu, spicy pigs ears and ChongQing style duck blood in chili soup, ChongQing spicy chicken, etc. The dishes are not really spicy enough for me but they are pretty satisfying when I crave for Sichuanese food. The tables are always clean, the servers are nice and attentive when they are not terribly busy. I wish I lived closer so I could eat here more often.

Where is the ma la? Did you take one look at my obviously non-Sichuanese face and decide — no Sichuan peppercorns for you :)! Here’s a piece of friendly advice — people, including a lot of non-Chinese love Sichuanese food. We love the cuisine precisely for the tingling, numbing sensation of Sichuanese peppercorn, for the funky taste of doubanjiang and the bold flavours of Sichuanese cooking. We don’t expect eggplant in garlic sauce to taste oddly bland and sweet. We don’t expect mapo doufu — a classic Sichuanse dish to be made with no doubanjiang and no powdered Sichuanese peppercorns. So, so disappointing.

Came here to try this place for the first time. Overall, I mainly enjoyed the fish in the chili oil dish. It was a big dish for $ 15. The Shanghai dumplings are okay, not soupie, on the dry side. It seems pretty authentic with all Chinese people as the main clients. The service is very slow. Had to ask for water and rice a couple times before receiving it. Worth a try if you enjoy spicy foods, but don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon.

First timer and it was OK. –Appearance – nice & clean. A lot of red/black décor. Almost every table had those electric heating devices. The server was welcoming and we appeared to be the only customers there. More people showed up soon after. –Menu– I’m new to Szechuan food, but I love spicy in general. There was your typical Chinese dishes to like pig ear, frog and pork intestine(those were a bit too exotic for me). –I went with the chicken clay pot &XLB. The first time I had XLB was in SoCal at 1 + 1 dumpling house and it was the best(quality, fresh, and flavorful). I’ve been searching for some in sac and they’ve never lived up to that standard. These were no different. As I bit into the dumpling, it was partially cold. Not a fan! The chicken clay pot contained: chicken, 2 types of mushrooms, bamboo, celery, onion, jalapeño, tomato, daikon(?), ginger, dried pepper, garnished with green onions. I enjoyed the mix of bamboos and mushrooms! Cons: its a bit oily and the chicken had a lot of bones(some small), so don’t bite down too quickly. I would prefer it without bones! Our meal came to a total of $ 24.25. Would I come back? Yes. Soon? Probably not.

I enjoyed eating here. I had no complaints about the service. Im not an expert on Szechuan cooking so I can’t comment on authenticity. The food that came to my table was fresh and tasted pretty good. We ordered cold sliced pork in garlic chili oil, spicy pig ears, spicy noodles in a hot pot, shrimp and gua soup, eggplant w/mixed veggies, and a lamb with veggies on a sizzling plate. The only item I didn’t care for was the lamb; only because I’m not a huge fan of lamb. I agree if you only get one item that is spicy it may not be that hot. But since we ordered 3 spicy items together there was plenty of heat for me. It’s not spicy to me unless it makes me sweat; and it did. This may not be up to bay or la standards. But it’s the best in south sac so far. I will eat here again for sure.

If you want some authentic Szechuan food and don’t want to travel to China. this would be the place to be. Try the Couple’s Delight(Cold Sliced Beef with Tendons in Spicy Oil), and also the baked fish. Thank me later!

I was so excited to find a Szechuan place in an area that I go to at least somewhat often and I couldn’t wait to give it a try. I’ve been here 2 times: 1 dining in and 1 to-go. Don’t know if I’ll come again. Service was nice enough. Got us our food and checks quickly both times. The restaurant is decently big but there’s usually enough people where it doesn’t feel too awkward. I was happy to note that they packed my to-go meals in the tight platic, sealed containers so the oils don’t spill out(they didn’t do that for my leftovers from my first meal and some oil got out). Now the main reason for the low review is the food. My friend and I ordered 4 dishes the first time and I reordered 2 of the dishes the second time. 1) Liang Fen(Mung Bean Noodles with Spicy Oil): First Time: I was so excited to eat this. However the Mung Bean Noodles were very thick and the sauce just doesn’t penetrate at all. We let it sit over the meal and it got a bit better. It eventually tasted good when I brought it home and let it sit for another few hours. Good amount of garlic, peppers, and szechuan peppercorns. Not enough spices in the oil itself but not bad.(3.5÷5) Second Time: I thought I’d order it again and let the noodles soak in the oil for awhile. Although some spiciness got in, I realized this batch of the spicy oil was just… blah. There was NO flavor to it. The garlic and peppers helped a bit but the oil itself was sooooo plain. There was no tingling sensation(from the peppercorns) and it tasted like chili oil straight out of a bottle. I added ginger and black vinegar and it helped a bit but overall that was the worst chili oil I’ve ever had. Absolutely flavorless.(1⁄5) 2) Suan Ni Bai Rou(Sliced pork with garlic sauce) First Time: My second favorite szechuan dish. Was a bit sad that the pork wasn’t super thinly cut, but not a huge deal. The chili oil on this one didn’t have a ton of flavor but the garlic brought it back a bit. Nothing super impressive but it was edible enough for me to want to give it a second chance. But now I regret doing that(2⁄5) Second Time: Like I said, wanted to give it a second time. Let the pork sit in the oil a bit longer to soak up some flavors. But I was sooooo disappointed. The chili oil was still flavorless but the WORST part is that there was NOGARLIC. The entire thing was just bland with a flat out burn. Not even bland with the tingly burn. Absolutely disappointed(1⁄5) 3) Twice Cooked Pork Not my dish but tried some. Fairly standard. Flavors were alright but I’m not a big fan of the dish in general so it’s not something I would order. But for the portion, it was pretty cheap($ 7) 4) Beef Noodle Soup Unfortunately I can’t remember the exact name for this dish. I originally wanted to order tantan noodles or liang ban mian(cold noodles) but the waiter told me that neither of them are very good and offered me a different suggestion. Unfortunately I didn’t listen too closely(I just heard it was a noodle dish) and I agreed and ordered it. Unfortunately I got the exact opposite of what I wanted(warm, soupy, non-spicy noodle dish versus a cold, no-soup, spicy noodle dish). My friend and I ate it anyway cause it was my fault for not listening. Luckily it tasted pretty good. The soup looked bland but the flavors were actually pretty developed and the taste of the beef really got through. The noodles got soggy fast though. Overall, good dish, just not what I was looking for(3.5÷5) Overall, just kind of a meh experience the first time and a bad experience the second time. Maybe I’ll give it a third try if I’m in the area. But overall, I’m disappointed.

I tried not to compare this place to the LA szechuan places that I’m used to but I couldn’t help it! That being said though, the food was still pretty good when it comes to authenticity in the Sacramento area. I let the parents order the food, got the mapo tofu, some fish dish(not with all the spices on it, it was just fish fillet in oil or something), veggies(leafy type), and this clam and cucumber soup. All were very generous portions and good to eat, service was pretty good as well. If you’re ever getting a craving for szechuan in Sacramento, great new place to check out! :)

I love spicy food, so I tried this place a few times already. The Grilled Whole Fish is a must eat dish. Besides two whole fishes, it comes with many other ingredients such as tofu, lettuces, lotus, etc. The appetizers are getting better and better. My favorite now is the Spicy Beef Tendon. I like that it’s thinly sliced with lots of flavor. Couple’s Delight is also good. For lamb lovers, you should try their Lamb Chop. I also tried a new dish recently. It’s the Spicy Frog. The spiciness is just about right. It goes very well with a cold beer or a bowl of rice. I don’t think it has been added to the regular menu yet, but sometimes it’s listed as the daily specials. I also tried some regular home-made kind of dishes such as Bean Curd with Threaded Pork, Spicy and Sour Potato, etc. They all turned out pretty well. The place is very clean, and servers are pretty nice too.

3 ½ Stars rounded up. I may have a place to satisfy my XLB and Tan-Tan Noodle cravings here in Sac. I’ve had better XLB in the Bay Area but with my limited choices this is good. The XLB kept is «soup» inside until the first bite. The Tan Tan Noodles was good with the sesame & peanut sauces and preserved vegetables and ground pork. It was spicy enough for me to eat while wiping my nose and smiling at the same time. The waitresses were attentive and helpful with the menu. Parking is hard to find on weekends.

Note: I don’t really eat Szechuan food and nor do I have any interest in buying a $ 20 something fish If I’m the only one that’s going to eat it. The food choices are based on what I’ve seen other people mention that I eat. Opinions are like farts. They’re hard to hold in, and when one slips, everyone’s going to know, and at least one person is going to leave the room. Looking at all the reviews for the 3 different Szechuan Spicy house with the same address, all the reviews STINK except the Food S., A. S, and a few others(well he’s kind of harsh).(Note: As I’m writing this there are several reviews from people with no profile pictures, few friends/reviews and either 1 or 5 stars(mostly 5)). With that being said I was curious and decide to try Szechuan SpicY house to see for myself. Upon hearing that there was a restaurant that has XLB(Xiao long bao — soup dumplings) I was excited to try it. Having eaten at Mama Lu’s in Monterey Park I couldn’t wait to eat some XLB and Beef pancake rolls. OOhhh boy was I disappointed. Décor: Inside is nice and clean. There’s lots of red and several tables have their own heating element for hot pot. Service: Service was nice and friendly. I ordered my food to go. I ordered, spicy beef shank, XLB, dumplings in chili oil, and BEEF pancakes rolls. I explicitly said BEEF Pancake rolls. When I got my food They gave me spring rolls. MEH!!! I had to go back to reorder the beef pancake rolls. Food: The prices appear to be ok, but For what you get I don’t think it was worth it. Dumplings in Spicy Chilli Oil — Ooooohhh boy this was my favorite. The dumpings were nice and juice with excellent heat. Inside there’s ground pork and Shrimp. I would definitely order again. XLB — Szechuan Spicy house(SSH) only provided 6 dumplings for around $ 5. Other places I’ve been to I usually get 10(same price/size). The XLB was so-so I did take it to go, but I expected it to be a lot more juicy than it was. I would not order this again. I might try Yang’s Noodles I hear they have a pretty good XLB Beef Shank — Pretty tasty nice spice level Spring rolls — MEHBLEH, although they were fried fresh they seem like your standard Chinese food buffet spring roll. STAYAWAY!!! Beef Pancake rolls — OOOOOh I had very fond memories of the Beef pancake rolls at Mama Lu’s mmmm… I’m dreaming of them now. SSH’s Beef pancake rolls fell short they use a thinly sliced beef compared to stew meat at Mama Lu’s. And to me there was a lot of Hosin sauce. *Update — I ate the pancake roll for breakfast the next morning and it grew on me. I may order it again. Overall: Well that’s my experience. I wish I had the experience Harrybobo had, but I was really disappointed. If you want any of the food I mentioned I suggest going to SoCal, Mama Lu’s has some good food and I hear Din Tai Fung(so good that they opened the same exact restaurant next door/there was a 2 hour wait when we went there on a sat.). I don’t know why, but Sacramento can’t seem to get a decent XLB place. Neither I or anyone I know eat Szechuan food so this review is based more so on their Taiwanese dishes. Update 1: After eating it a second day I updated it from«Meh… I’ve had better» to «A-OK» because the food was good, and I did not eat what the restaurant is known for. Well that’s my opinion; if it stinks to you then you should do your own sniffing and see how it is. Update 2: I received a semi-helpful passive aggressive compliment from Harrybobo, which makes me lean towards the notion that he knows them somehow. I appreciate your feedback, and I’m always looking for constructive criticism in how I can improve my reviews. I updated my review and took in a few things he said into consideration. Here is what Harrybobo L. said: «Dear Derrick F. How is it fair that you write a crappy review about a Szechuan Restaurant when you expect them t bend over backwards to accommodate your likes? Even though they offered a few Taiwanese dishes their specialty is Chuan Cai. If you want beef rolls, xiao long boa and oyster omelets then go to Yang’s Noodles on Stockton Blvd. where they serve what you want… or Pacific East Mall in El Cerrito where they have a Taiwanese Deli inside the 99 Ranch Supermarket and also have xiao long at one of the restaurants. How unfair you are to give a crappy review about a restaurant specializing in Hua Jiao and La yu inspired food. I appreciate your candor and honesty but you come off like a retard» Note HarryBobo — If we’re giving writing tips this would be an excellent comment if you took the last part out regarding retard. If I want to speak in a colloquial tongue to get more funny votes then like Bobby Brown says, «That’s my prerogative». You don’t need to result to name calling, it’s unbecoming. But then, that’s my opinion and to Harrybobo I’m pretty sure it stinks. Any ways Compliment approved!

I am a true Chinese born and raised in China and I still visit china 2 – 3 times a year. This is def THE best szechuan style Chinese food in Sac town. Of course if you are looking for Bay Area Chinese food standard there is no such match here in Sac. But let me tell ya this is by far the most authentic Szechuan Chinese food in town in the past 6 years I’ve lived here. Forget about Golden dragon and Hidden Sichuan, seriously is it really szechuan food? Whoever from China and loves spicy food. This is your goto place. They have variety of 水煮, 干锅, 烤串 and 火锅. see the menu yourself
