Underwhelming. The menu selection is slim, and the fries taste like those crinkly frozen fries you can get at the grocery store. They’re really soft and flavorless. But the biggest problem is the buns: they are so soft that they soak up all the moisture from the dog and toppings, and they get soggy. Falling apart soggy. I’ve been here twice, and twice is enough. I had the same problems with the food quality both times. There are other much much better dogs in town.

I had lunch here for the first time today. The girl working the register was very nice and helpful. I ordered a bratwurst and had the condiments changed around a bit. The wait time was over fifteen minutes which seemed a bit excessive to me. I was in a rush so I ordered it to go. The bun was really soggy when I opened the container less than six minutes later. The flavor and preparation were excellent. I will probably go back again but I will make sure to have more time and be able to dine in to give this place a fair shake. The décor seemed a little odd; they can’t seem to decide if they’re a Chicago themed establishment or construction themed. Also, I think they could use a bar along the side for people who are eating by themselves– four or five tables were occupied by one person.

Nice lil hot dog joint. Perfect meal on hot day like today. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed the Chicago dog. Soft and fresh poppy seed bun, thick juicy dog and fresh and tasty toppings. Mmm, my kind of place.

Stay away. I’m sad to say that I honestly can’t find anything positive to say about this place other than the location? Here’s my run-down on my experience: 1. Lots of choices. Unfortunately none were well executed. I got a soggy, poppy seed bun(didn’t ask for poppy seed; wasn’t told it was a poppy seed bun). I sort of expected the bun not to be soppy wet(I dont think thats too much to ask, is it)? Inside my soggy, poppy seed bun, was a limp, boiled hot dog. Not even grilled… really? i mean, really??? 2. The toppings were all a bit funky tasting, less than fresh. 3. the fries were so greasy that they sopped through the brown paper bag they were wrapped in. 4. The onion rings(and fries for that matter) were incredibly overly salted. 5. The icing on the cake: we all felt incredibly sick for hours after. like gut-wrenching pain. Really. Don’t bother. You’d be much happier grilling a hot dog at home. At least your food will taste good and not make you violently ill after.

I wanted this place to be so much better than it is. The guy working the counter is excatly what you want from the service industry, it is why this place got an extra star. I wanted a Hot dog… Key word here HOT… not a luke warm dog. I did like the soft bun and snap the«warm» dog had, but still couldn’t fully enjoy my not hot dog.

Get the fireball… no it’s not a hotdog, but once you try it you will know why I suggest it. The staff was friendly and the food was good. Not too expensive. I will be back again!

My sister and I visited today and were looking forward to good chicago style dog… no such luck. The dog was long and skinny and had absolutely no «pop!» The bun was mushy and the neon relish is just yucky looking(although it did taste like relish.) For the price I expected a fabulous chicago dog and am sad I didn’t get one. Also when I asked where the restroom was I was told to go into the building next door, where I would have to go to Ste 201, ask for a key and then be shown to the bathroom… really?! What’s worse is that I couldn’t access this bathroom and had to walk a block and half down the street to the Starbucks. This place is really not worth your time ~ at least in my and my sister’s humble opinions.

I had really high expectations and they were not met. It was pricey and not very good. You want a really good hot dog go to Parker’s in Roseville.

I am stoked these guys are in the neighborhood, but they need to get their act together a little more before I’d recommend this place. Disclaimer: I did not have a hot dog, I had a burger. The burger was bland and it tasted like low quality meat. The cook forgot my fries so he had to cook them after I had already got my burger. Then they whipped out the fries so of course they weren’t cooked. The meal was $ 10. There are a lot better places I can eat for $ 10. When are we going to get a new restaurant in East Sac that doesn’t suck!!!

The Good: The Bun: Nice and soft, tasted fresh baked. The Service: Guy was really friendly and personable. The Dog: I had the California dog, and it was a nice mix of flavors, the bacon blended well with the other ingredients. The Price: $ 4.00ish for a dog, though it was a bit small, had a lot of gourmet ingredients, the onion rings were $ 3.00 but came with a huge amount of rings, way more than I needed. The Bad: Décor not impressive. Place just didn’t seem clean. Bathroom was next door in an abandoned office area. Creepy. The Ugly: Found a mysterious fried hair in my onion rings. Bottom line: I have no plans to return. The guy behind the counter was cool, but cool doesn’t get past weird mysterious hair in my book.

Food: Good variety of dogs. The buns are plain and not toasted. The hot link was not hot and was smothered with cheese. The urban fries are greasy. Price: Dogs run for around $ 4 a piece. For two hotdogs, fries and a drink, you could be spending over $ 15. Service: Friendly service, but wait time can be long during lunch rushes. Misc.: Limited seating inside and outside. Conclusion: I’m still looking for a good hot dog place in Sacramento, because I’ve had better elsewhere(e.g. Top Dog in Berkeley). Nothing special here. A bit too pricey for mediocre/sub par hot dogs. Two stars for friendly service and variety, but too pricey for what it is.

Loved my Chicago Dog and onion rings. My friend enjoyed the Maxwell sausage. All in all worth every minute in the car to get there from 7th and P streets. I will make it a regular trip.

It’s good, but it’s no Capitol Dawg. The buns were too soft and the sides tasted stale. But the quality of the dog was good. Had a good snap to it.

Since the Urban Dog in Folsom is in my regular lunch rotation at work, I was looking forward to the store in East Sac. Even though it’s still a little bit of a drive from downtown but at least I don’t have to drive out to Folsom on my off-workday. The goods, the dogs is still the same good olé Vienna hot dog imported from Chicago where it each bite has a good snap and flavor and they have the Urban Mac & Cheese(which hasn’t been on the Folsom menu in over a year). The staff is great and pretty much on the ball. And now, the bad, like the original, there’s no Deep Fried dog option, the menu is parred down from the original(no corn dog and beer), the place is smaller but the outdoor seating makes up for the lack of space. Overall, despite the shortcoming, I still like the place based on the core dogs alone but there is still room for improvement.

For my first visit to Urban Dog, I decided to be a hotdog purist and ordered the Plain-O Dog. It snapped and had a good flavor. The crinkle fries were pretty good as well, but nothing fancy and not too greasy. The hotdog buns have poppyseeds on them, which was a first for me. Next time, I think I will order a dog with more toppings and try the urban fries since I enjoy cheese. So far, Urban Dog is a great addition to the East Sacramento neighborhood. The Plain-O dog was $ 3, so expect the more elaborate dogs to cost at least $ 4. The staff was nice, the soda machine was flowing, and there’s a big jar of pickles if you enjoy that sort of thing.

So happy to have another eatery to choose from in my work ‘hood! My lunch buddy & I meandered down and ordered a couple sausages & some fries! I had the Calabrese. This sausage had grilled onions(yum), some sort of hot pepper(not as hot as I’d like) & celery(which I thought at first was weird but ended up being tasty). Lil Shannon had the Chicken-mozzarella sausage also with grilled onion & some sort of aioli(a little heavy handed so make sure you like ‘ma’oili. We shared some Urban fries(pesto & bleu cheese) that although had a great flavor were a bit greasy. I know they are fries & grease comes with the territory but these were VERY greasy. Oh and the buns have poppy seeds on them(yum) but might be better suited for a dog and not a sausage as mine fell apart. Over all, tasty, sausages, way friendly staff & very fast. Perfect for our ‘allotted’ amount of time for lunch! It’s perfect for all the hospital, construction workers & the crazy kiddos from the nearby school! They have some burgers on the menu too… always tempted by a burger! Only open from 10 – 3 ish.
