This restaurant has a cool trendy vibe and good food. To be fair I did not have the sushi. I did try the karage chicken which was definitely the style of an American Asian fusion restaurant. If I didn’t know what authentic karage tastes like I would have raved about this one. The coating was light as it should have been but there was little to no traditional flavor like when the chicken has been marinating. The yakisoba is highly recommended. Great flavor, fresh vegetables, shrimp and chicken well seasoned. Service was excellent!

I used to come here for their happy hour deals until I discovered their $ 25.99AYCE special. It sounds pricey but it’s definitely worth it because they have a lot more options on the menu than other AYCE restaurants. Some of the many options they have that other AYCE restaurants don’t have; hamachi Kama, Pepperfin, secret spicy shrimp, Calamari, grilled salmon, BBQ albacore, sushi nachos, udon soup, shrimp tempura, zig zag roll, and hot Cheetah roll. Each dish had its own unique taste, nothing that wow’d me, but enough to satisfy my sushi cravings and get my money’s worth.

I usually order the Bento box here, as it’s a bit more filling, but today I Changef up and tried the Hawaiian Poke. The Ahi was amazingly fresh, and served with equally. fresh baby sprouts and seaweed. Zen Sushi is in weird part of town… but inside the decorum is nice and stylish. The portion could have been larger. In Hawaii you can get a poke bowl with twice the fish and some tasty veggie and rice fixings that make it more filling for $ 9. Here it was $ 10 for mostly fish. I’m guessing the difference being the availability of fresh fish. In any case this dish is more appetizer than a meal. Anyway 4 stars. Out the door a bowl of miso soup and Hawaiian Poke. $ 14 and change. The service was excellent and my server made sure I got the spice I asked for. See my pictures. Bön Appetite!

OMG!!! Found this place from my Unilocal friend Alex T who was here previously. How can you say no to AYCE Sushi? Lol Went here for lunch and the place isn’t pack which is good that means we’ll get our food faster. I scanned the menu right away and yes my favorite Hamachi Kama is listed. Let the party begin! You’re allowed to order 3 pcs at a time(per person) but since we sat at the sushi bar we ordered some directly to the chef too. The Signature Rolls are full portions and the rests are partial only. There’s only few pictures I took as every piece arrives, I was too excited to eat it and forgot the pictures. lol Here are«few»(lol) items we ordered… Hamachi Kama — was cooked to perfection with grill marks on the crispy skin though I wish they put some rock salt on it to make it better.(When I grill Hamachi Kama at home, I use rock salt or the Himalayan salt and it taste much better) Receipt shows only ordered 3x but actually we had 5x! Lol yes! That’s how much we love Hamachi Kama!!! Lol Mike’s roll — is heavy but yes definitely a good choice. Will definitely order it again Calamari — lightly battered and the sauce… oh myyyy! The sauce taste like aioli but with a wasabi kick! Shrimp Tempura– we ordered this way too many! I only it shows on the bill we ordered it 2x but actually we ordered this 4x! Lol The batter is light and very crunchy… definitely we both enjoyed it. Poki Salad — spicy and love it! We got this 3x! :) Nigiri sushi — Tuna, Seared Tuna, Smoke Salmon, Hamachi, Unagi, Shrimp, and Octopus… so delicious and fresh. You get one piece per order. Firecracker roll — unfortunately I didn’t try this one but my husband said its spicy and he likes it. Chicken Katsu — tender and cooked perfectly. Very happy for getting it. I ordered Salmon Kama but they’re out? What??? It’s only 2:00pm? But I wasn’t trippin so another Hamachi Kama instead! Lol Most likely there’s few items I forgot to review but definitely we’ll be back when we’re in the area again. I want to try the House Specialty, Noodles and more of the Signature rolls. Staff are friendly. It has a full bar so that’s another plus. Overall, this is a place to go for AYCE Sushi

Everything is so fresh, hands down best sushi I’ve ever had in my life. Only downside is it’s a little pricey, and it’s hard to find parking. Service was decent. Will return!

Came here since melting pot was booked. Were not disappointed. Not sure if all you can eat cost balanced out with our choices but it sure was fun and tasty. Service was attentive and informed. Atmosphere was lovely. Almost all regular menu items are included in ayce though the portions are smaller. Went with most raw or lightly seared fish options, pork ribs, spinach, tempura and a couple of rolls. Tried to keep the rice proportion down and the protein veg proportion higher. You know it was good if you dream about what you want to try next!

Went here for lunch with the boss and to food to go. They have great lunch specials(you can be Capital F FULL for under 10 $ if you do it right) and wide bar any time of day. It’s not in that great a part of town, like there’s really nothing around it, and it’s not that attractive from the outside but it’s very clean and inviting inside. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go back but I always wouldn’t steer away from it. PROS: kind service, comfy bar stools but also tables, big windows and naturally lit, lots of food for cheap CONS: food not remarkable, probably wouldn’t get it again

Was looking for udon soup on this rainy day lunch hour and Zen Sushi did not disappoint. The soup was yummy and hit the spot. Also had a lunch combo that was very good. Will definitely be back!

Talk about service, First off i want to give Jason aka sushi chef a shout out, for the wonderful intimate service and conversations. He took care of us like we were his close friends and family. It was actually my first time coming here and we all loved it! It just one of those days, i want to take mom to a nice out dinner, and i invited my aunty too. What motivated me to come here is, when i saw pictures posted from my friends. I knew i had to come here and give it a try. We did the All you can eat, $ 25.95 per person. They just offered this within six months, and is still new to this all you can eat. Talk about variety on the AYCE menu. They have cold small plates, Hot small plates, Nigiri Sushi, appetizers, udon, and etc. Let me just say yassss! Yasssss! its work your money. They even have sushi rolls, but thats not really me, I’m more traditional and love the good old nigiri, with the good stuff on top of the rice, dip the corner with wasabi and sushi. We all started out with some miso soup, then we jumped right into the small appetizers, and continued with sushi. The quality is excellent, high quality and very fresh. The presentations reminds me of small Japanese tapa style. The nigiri is served one piece each time which is great, because you can try more. You can order 3 things at a time, per person. This was not a problem and jason was very nice about it when we wanted 5 things at once. He does warn us when some items on the menu is bigger than just a few bites. Some memorable dishes i loved or like was their scallop, ikura, tobiko, octopus, salmon, hamachi nigiri. Their Poke salad is very yummy and fresh too! Loved the hamachi kama which is so juicy, and char grilled to perfection. Their grilled asparagus looked soooo droolicious and was perfectly seasoned too. The vegetarian tempura was beautiful, colorful, crisp, and fresh! I do like how their water was chilled and served in a kraft jar which was a nice presentation. Overall we will be back very soon with a group of friends, and its a yassssss! worth the money, and we were all very satisfy and gave it 2 thumbs up! The environment was very laid-back and chill, i recommend you sit at the sushi bar for quicker service. Also they have HH all day everyday, meaning top shelf drinks like grey goose, Henny shots for like $ 5, oh you know where i be at… lol… i totally recommend this place for a special occasion or just a good night out for dinner. Top service, quality, and great variety on the menu. Thanks for reading and lets sushi it up!

Oh gosh, in a bad way. Continued venturing out to different sushi restaurants and this would probably be last on my list. First of all, fish was not fresh at all. You’ll see what I’m talking about when you take a look at my photos. Volcano roll: 2⁄5 — I felt like I was eating sauce and tempura flakes. Jason roll: 2⁄5 — Look at that fish. It is not fresh at all. Secret shrimp: 3⁄5 — This was good, but probably only because of the sauce. Fried Baby Calamari: 4⁄5 — So good and that’s because I love calamari! Service was okay! The place was busy on a Friday night so our waiter was slow. Prices were kind of steep for the quality of their food. Don’t recommend.

This review is about the all-you-can-eat. The quality of the sushi is better than most. It was just me and a buddy and we were there to EAT. They give you a 90 minute eating time, as well as ordering 3 orders at a time. We literally took ALL90 minutes haha. Turned out to be $ 28.16 per person without tip.(Make sure to tip people!) The only thing that felt intrusive to our experience was that the waiter kept saying multiple times to «make sure to finish your food.» Yes, thanks… We got 7 premium rolls, 2 pepperfins, 1 seafood nacho, and 18 pieces(count em!) of nigiri. I’m sure that is WELLABOVE our $ 57 bill. Eat here.

Great service, great staff, and quality sushi. I ordered the sashimi and it was top notch. Salmon, Maguro, and Yellowtail was so good, didn’t even need soy sauce! Their salad was really good too. My spot in Sacramento!

I was very impressed with the quality of food here. My tuna and yellow fin sashimi came out very quickly and were impeccably fresh. The Q roll I got was made beautifully(I watched him put so much effort into it!) and tasted delicious! The addition of the scallions was a great surprise and the roll was not only fresh but actually spicy! I get spicy tuna often but this was spicy not in an artifical mayo spice flavor, but something more complex and flavorful. Checked in on Unilocal, free ice cream. Got two pieces of sashimi to go, couldnt help it. This is the sushi I hoped to get when visiting Califorinia!

The hard working staff need help with the increased demand on the weekends. Timeframe have seriously increased where it takes 25 min just to get your order taken, and an additional 30 to get your food. Management, please staff your establishment to the demands of your business. Your employees are overworked and it is not their fault. I’ve been there the last 3 weeks in a row with the same result.

Had a weird craving for udon all of a sudden, and after searching Unilocal, found this place supposedly served a pretty mean udon(at least back in 2011). The online menu was down for maintenance, so I couldn’t check to be sure. Today, they only have three kinds of udon: tempura, nabeyaki, and yakiudon. I ordered the nabeyaki, which was basically a chicken udon with cabbage, mushrooms, carrots, and an egg drop. The broth was okay, but had lots of egg«flower», which I’m not sure is quite accurate. It was also a bit salty for my tastes, and the carrot wasn’t cooked quite enough for my tastes. The vegetable roll #1 with spinach and asparagus tempura was not bad. Nothing amazing that stood out, but it was a tasty way to get some vegetables. They had a special trout sashimi of the day which was actually really tender and nicely sliced. I was surprised that the trout was so pink — almost like salmon. I didn’t taste any awkward fibers, and it was extremely smooth. $ 8 for four slices wasn’t cheap, but it at least it wasn’t disappointing. The ambiance itself was pretty trendy-modern with neon blue lights rimming the rooftop outside and a red backlit sign. The place was rather quiet at 8:30pm on Sunday, with only about a quarter of the tables filled. I guess it was a bit late for dinner, and they also close pretty early on Sundays at 9pm…

Let me throw this out here to get it out of the way – I’m not a huge sushi person(gasp!). This has led me to try about every California roll imaginable(told you I’m not a big sushi person). Anyway, the spicy California roll was delicious! My friend ordered a roll with tempura shrimp in it and it was also exceptional. While sitting at the sushi bar, we had a nice conversation with a sushi fanatic who has travelled a lot and still says this is his favorite sushi restaurant. Sooo long story short: don’t trust my opinion, but definitely trust this guy! We had the green tea ice cream for dessert that you get for checking in on Unilocal. It was surprisingly delicious! I’ve never had anything like it. I would definitely eat at Zen Sushi again, and who knows? Maybe I’ll eventually order something other than a California roll!

I picked this place for dinner on a Saturday night because my boyfriend and I have never dined here. Luckily, we were able to find street parking and it was close to 6 so we didn’t have to feed the meter too much. Upon entering, the restaurant was a lot more modern and fancy than either of us expected. There is a drink bar and a sushi bar in the front room and even lounge-type sofas. We wanted a table so we were taken to the back room. It was cozy because our booth was situated in a room that had a partition with sliding doors, so it felt really private(we were also the only ones there so that helped). One thing that I did not like was how low the bench seat was… or is it how high the table was? I’m short, but this set up made me feel extra short as the table was nearly up to my chest. The waitress brought us a carafe of water. Our waitress told us Happy Hour was until 6, but the menu said 6:30, so that was kinda confusing. We ordered quickly anyway. BBQ albacore($ 5): five pieces of tender albacore coated with spicy sauce and served with a side of shredded daikon. This was very tasty and seemed worth the price. Seafood nachos($ 4): two wonton crisps topped with a mixture of seafood and sauces. This was nice to try, but doesn’t seem worth it since it’s only two pieces. My boyfriend ate his in one bite. Chicken karage($ 4): battered chicken topped with an aoili. It was a little heavy on the sauce, but my boyfriend and I still enjoyed it. The chicken was tender. Mori tempura($ 7): I’m not japanese so I had no idea what«mori» meant. Maybe they should just call it mixed tempura haha. There were two shrimp, one sweet potato, one broccoli, one zucchini, and one carrot. The batter was light and fried perfectly. The price seemed like a rip off however. BK Roll($ 5): basically a deep fried california roll topped with sauces. The description for this was not on the Happy Hour or regular menu, so we had to ask our waitress. By then we felt awkward not getting it, so we just did. It was alright. I like fish, so I probably wouldn’t order this again. My boyfriend is also not a big fan of deep fried rolls as they are heavy. Mango ice cream(free): this was the Unilocal check-in offer. You have the option of picking green tea instead. It was very creamy and tasty. Side note — when I was looking at their regular menu I saw that their bento combination is about $ 20 — yikes! I’ll stick to the happy hour menu. Overall, the experience was pleasant. The price overall wasn’t too bad for the variety of food we ate. The waitress was friendly, but not overly intrusive. The restaurant was clean and the food came out fast and fresh. It’s located near the memorial auditorium, so it’s convenient if you’re going to an event there. I’m surprised it wasn’t busier on a Saturday night, but maybe we were there too early. I would go again and recommend for happy hour.

i love the atmosphere there! simple and stylish. with the glass window all around street corner, its definitely a nice place for lunch or afternoon tea. We tried lunch combo of 2 items for only $ 9,99. i picked the teriyaki salmon and 4 pic sushis. salmon is great. salad is fatastic with sesame sauce. while the fish on top of sushi seem not the most fresh. thats why one star is missing here. generally its a chilling out place where I will surely go again.
