Great food and fast service. Definitely recommend. Much better than most indian restaurants i’ve been to in the US. If you have a bit of an appetite get either the lamb or chicken beryani. Enjoy!

This is not your traditional run of the mill Indian restaurant. Be prepared to be wowed by everything from the ambience to the cocktail menu to the entrees. I started with a light watermelon and sprout salad. It was light, tasty and refreshing at the same time. I had a wonderful evening chatting with my bartender, who is is also a co-owner. Thanks to him I was able to taste three different wines prior to getting a couple I liked. He also made the recommendation to get the Lamb Chops which were amazing! I got 4 tender locally sourced lamb chops grilled perfectly with rice, grilled vegetables and a dipping sauce to go with my rumali roti. Make sure you get the rumali roti since it was flaky and warm and just the right accompaniment. I usually have trouble finding it on most Indian menus and was super excited to see they had it. See my posted pic. This is the quintessential example of a small business owner that I want to succeed and deep down I know they will because of their awesome menu, locally sourced fresh ingredients and warm hospitality. GONOW! You’ll be glad you did.

I had dinner here with a group. It was very bad experience. Service was bad. It was slow. They did not bother to check how the food was tasting after serving the food. Food had no taste at all. No flavor, no taste. And menu is quite pricy. Ambience is weird too. They want to give it a sport bar kind of a look, but it’s messed up. They were play old Bollywood songs in the background and running a basketball game on TV. Really weird. I would never go again, and would not recommend this to anyone.

It was my turn to schedule the work happy hour and based on my fellow Unilocalers reviews, I was dying to check it out. Our table of three included a world traveler, a Indian food novice and a Indian food skeptic– and we fought over the leftovers! The ambiance is interesting, with blue lights and more TVs than any sports bar I’ve ever seen but it seems to work. During the late lunch/happy hour time we were the only table in the restaurant, but I imagine as the place fills up and the sun goes down, the ambiance seems more applicable. They have a fun and interesting drink menu, that’s complete with liquor from local distilleries. The Mumbai Mule and the Bombay Bootleg were extra refreshing on these lovely spring days we’ve been having. The also feature some local beers such as Summit, Surly and 612. We split the Vada Pav(veggie sliders), Bluefox chicken, Indian Samosa, Chicken Tikka Masala and Spinach Veg & Paneer. These three apps and two entrees left all three of us stuffed all night and also provided some leftovers for our very lucky significant others. The only dish I would skip, although it was recommended by our server, was the Bluefox chicken. Compared to the flavorful other dishes, it just didn’t measure up for me. Everything was fresh and flavorful– I can’t wait to return! Tip: Their Happy Hour runs from 3 – 6 and 9-close and offers $ 3 bottles of beer and $ 5 house margaritas and half off apps!

Great food and great ambience. The vada pav was AMAZING! we also order chicken biryani which was very very good. Downside: My only complaint was the Paneer peas dosa which was average(lacking salt and spice and a bit dry). Also the prices were a bit more expensive that usual. Overall great service and good food. Would return back.

This is definitely one of the most interesting restaurants I have visited in a long time. At first I was taken aback by the high top tables, but the host seated us in a cozy booth that was quiet and private. We shared our meal of Samosa, watermelon salad, paneer peas dosa and two desserts; Jamoon ice cream and Rasmelai dumplings. At about 8:30 or so they turned on the music and it had a bit of a night club feel. The music was fun and thankfully not too loud. We could enjoy our conversation with a bit of background music. Most patrons were of Indian descent which gave it a very authentic vibe. The food we ordered was mild, with only a bit of kick, which was to my liking. I would definitely come back again! The only reason I rated it four stars instead of five was that my dosa was a bit dry, but maybe I did not put enough sauce on it. The specialty drinks were good, we had a mango and Aquavit cooler that was not too sweet and had a mild spicey taste.

I fully intend on editing this review because I am going back. I have to say, this is the best Indian food I have had and I have been to my share of Indian restaurants. I was a bit nervous about it because it is kind of expensive compared to most but it is absolutely worth it. I went for lunch and had the lunch special. What a great day to get a taste of a few different dishes. I had chicken tikka masala with basmati rice and it was perfect. It came with a very fresh salad with homemade dressing. Also, fresh naan which was wonderful. The appetizer it came with was tandoori chicken. It was amazingly tender and perfectly seasoned. The atmosphere was very cool and I want to go back at night to experience it again. So modern and different from the typical Indian restaurants I have been to. And no buffet! That is a plus in my book. The service was average. Not great, not bad. The West End area is filled with mediocre restaurants and chains. I hope Blue Fox starts a trend in the area of better restaurants coming in.

My wife and I had a $ 20 Groupon here and we walked into a PARTY! The place was overrun by 50 Indian patrons celebrating a baby. These guys know how to party. Tons of platters of food and they were having a great time. I ordered an IPA and the following meal. LAMBFRANKIE lamb cubes Sautéed green capsicum, onion soices tamarind chutney wrapped in roti with an egg brush served with side house salad. It was basically a lamb Chipotle burrito, it was amazing! Lots of spices and full of meat. Highly recommended. My wife got the naan and the soup. I tried a bite of the naan, and it was perfect! Great place!

Blue fox is not your typical Indian restaurant. It tries to be modern while retaining the traditional and I’m on the fence if that’s working for them. The menu is a mix between South Indian breakfast foods(dosa, utappam etc) kebabs and biryanis and random fusion dishes(calamari, watermelon salad etc) thrown in there. My primary reason for going to blue fox are the«Frankie’s»; they are not offered anywhere in the area and it reminds me of the Frankie’s I’ve had in the Bombay metro. I’ve also tried the biryani’s, which were on point and the Chana masala did not disappoint either. I don’t know how many people end up ordering Calamari or a watermelon salad at this place but considering that it’s pricey, I always dance around the traditional options. I’m definitely a fan and will probably try the south India cuisines and update the review.

We were delighted to hear that a new Indian restaurant serving South Indian food, had opened. My husband and I had recently returned from a trip to India so we were missing good South Indian food. It was his birthday so we decided to checkout this new restaurant. We showed for lunch around 12.30 and all the window tables were taken. Eating Indian food sitting on a bar stool was not our favorite option. So we got seated in a table next to the kitchen in a dimly lit place. It surpr us that comfortable seating options were so limited. We were disappointed in the Dosa which looked good but lacked the texture and taste that comes with fermentation of the batter. Utthapam also lacked the crispy surface with soft texture inside. Vadas in sambar were okay. Chutneys and Sambar tasted good. We enjoyed our drinks but overall it was an expensive lunch; we wish that we could say that culinary pleasures made it worth it. I hope that the food improves with time. There is a lot of interest in South Indian food especially served as weekend buffet. Blue Fox offers creative and diverse offerings compared to the usual Indian fare served in the Indian restaurants in Twin Cities. Definitely worth checking out.

How to get out of a so called fancy restaurant in 30 minutes? Here is how… Walk into the restaurant with wife and 4 year old kid at 7:04PM. Get seated in a hidden corner because a «family with a kid» doesn’t match the restaurant décor! Spend time chatting with family, 7:26PM, not even a glass of water at our tables, Get up and ask the waiter who has served the table next to us with appetizers during the same time with appetizers. Waiter apologizes but still no attention, not even water. 7:33PM Walk out with a hungry crying kid! Basically it is no service for«Family» or «Kids». Drove 0.7 miles to the nearest other Indian restaurant, ordered appetizers at 7:40PM, Got served with Appetizers at 7:52PM — Well that was service, and Bluefox was basically an INSULT!

Great restaurant in a great part of town! However there are better Indian restaurants just a few blocks away. The food was average, the service was poor, and with just 5 people at the table, they charged us a 20 percent tip!

We went to Bluefox simply for apps for my birthday. We ended up loving the veg sliders(wow) and the signature martini, so much so that we cancelled our other dinner reservations to stay there for dinner. My husband ordered the chicken chettinadu, which he loved. I ordered the chicken tikka which was full of flavor and next time I hope to try something more adventurous. Both of our dishes were served with coconut rice and naan. Our service(we sat at the bar) was great. One of the employees also works(owns? Not sure) at another restaurant which I have been to several times and is less fancy, but has good food. I think that although Bluefox is pricey, every thing in West End is and this place fits in. It’s a unique experience with Indian food and I think worth the costs associated. I love that it brings another good option to West End and we look forward to returning.

The food here is decent but nothing extraordinary as such. The ambience is pretty good. Different from the regular Indian restaurant in the twin cities. The service is pretty slow, may need to work on it. Had lamb chops, chicken biryani and vada pav. For dessert we had an ice cream with gulab jamun but the gulab jamun was cold instead of hot. Kind off disappointed.

Stopped in for an app and wine after seeing a most intense movie at Icon. Crave and Rojo were too crowded on a Thursday night at 7:00, but Blue Fix is new and very uncrowded — perfect place to nosh and talk. Ordered the Chili Chicken off the starter menu, which was an ample dish filled with lots of chicken, red and green peppers, scallions, tomato sauce and very nice heat which was great for a January evening Minnesota. Paired well with the house merlot at $ 7 and the chicken was $ 10. Skip the white rice and naan if your avoiding carbs and fill up on the protein and veggies. Service at the bar was attentive but should be since there were only 2 of us. Very nice evening and no reason to deduct stars other than the crazy West End parking situation and poor design of the whole complex. I’d come here more often if it weren’t a rat maze trying to navigate the parking and restaurant access.

What a great addition to West End and to the Twin Cities. BlueFox is perfect for a date night or for a round of drinks and appetizers with coworkers or friends. The beautiful décor is nothing like other Indian restaurants in the cities. Space is huge with a full bar, flatscreen TVs everywhere, contemporary artwork on the walls, great lighting all of which creating a very inviting ambience. I had the Mumbai Mule(a vodka cocktail) which was decent. For food, we had Vada Pav(two mini veg sliders) with just the right amount of spice to start things off. For the main course, we had to order the Uttapam and a Paper Masala Dosa which can be a hit or miss in any Indian restaurant in the U.S. Kudos to BlueFox for getting the South Indian delicacies right. The prices seem to be higher but the quality/quantity of food and service makes it all worth it. The menu is thoughtfully designed to cater to a wide range of tastes and dietary requirements. Vada Pav, Idli Fries, Kale Pakora Asparagus Soup are just a few of the many vegan appetizers on the menu. Almost all of the Uttapams and Dosas are vegan by nature unless people want to add lamb or eggs which are not traditionally required in the preparation of these items. As a vegan, I have to mention that the owner understands the need to have vegan options on the menu, especially given the location(educated, well aware and health-conscious consumers). The owner was very receptive to my suggestions on making more dishes vegan-friendly by using dairy-free alternatives. Use Earth Balance Butter instead of a high cholesterol, high fat and unhealthy version of ‘traditional’ dairy butter. Use Tofu or Seitan instead of Paneer to introduce a few additional items on the menu like Tofu Kabobs, Tofu Palak, Tofu Tikka Masala etc. Another suggestion is to offer Tapioca Pudding(with coconut cream) and Carrot Halwa prepard with Coconut Milk and Coconut Cream to make the desserts vegan-friendly. This is my new favorite Indian restaurant in town.

My daughter and I popped into the Blue Fox after a movie(The Revenant, go see it!) on Sunday at 9:00pm. The open sign was glowing and their Web site said they served until 10:00pm. When we entered however the room was entirely bereft of customers. Not a soul in sight outside of staff. Bear in mind the off peak hour and that we were experiencing sub zero wind chills and that could account at least in good part for the lack of patronage. We hesitated inside the entrance but were warmly greeted and assured that the kitchen was up and running and eager to prepare whatever we might order. I’ll add that the atmosphere is sleekly modern and a bit sterile with numerous, overly intrusive flat screen TVs scattered about. The east Indian background music was also blaring quite loudly but was graciously turned down several DBs at my daughter’s request. We started by sharing an order of well made, pillowy Samosas served with excellent mint and tamarind chutneys and light, non-greasy Kale Pakora served with the tamarind chutney and a roasted garlic chutney. I also ordered a refreshing South Indian Monsoon(Muddled citrus, mint & Ginger with pomegranate and mango juice with splash of soda). For our main course my daughter chose the Garden Vegetable Curry which she found very much to her liking. I ordered the Chicken Chettinadu. I asked for extra heat but they must have assumed I was a typical Minnesotan and though spicy, it was turned down several notches from what I really wanted. Never-the-less I thoroughly enjoyed the dish. Both orders came attractively plated with a side of rice and excellent naan. Our server said that on a typical Friday or Saturday evening there can be hour long waits for a table. I was heartened to hear that business was much steadier and I hope considerably more profitable than the vast expanse of empty tables on our visit might have indicated. I think this place deserves a look and fills an upscale Indian niche quite well.

I am SO happy there is a good Indian spot in slp! This is the old«little Szechuan» place, they made the bar area much later but kept the rest of the look. There are several tvs(which is a must in Minnesota). The vibe was modern but warm. We had the dosa and it was amazing! It is also huge so it’s a great starter to share. We also had the samosas which came with great dipping sauces. For our entrée we had the lamb chops. These were seasoned perfectly! We didn’t have any desserts or drinks but we will come back for those! I think this is a great addition westend!

A good choice for dining in West End. The ambiance is fun(blue lights and good background music) and the food tastes fresh. The restaurant offers Southern Indian food, which includes small plates, entrees, a few curries, uttapam, dosa, rice dishes, cocktails, and desserts. Everything that we had was tasty. The chutney sample, Channa masala, and vada pav(veg sliders) were loved by the whole table. The veg sliders are a little sweet, but still delicious. The scallops had a unique flavor, having been made with roasted pepper chutney, lotus root, chili relish, and a spicy sauce. The menu says the scallops are sustainable, yay! My dining mates liked the Chicken Frankie and dosa. The service was friendly and accommodating. If you end up in West End, this restaurant is a good choice.

What Does The Bluefox Say? What does a blue fox say? Do blue foxes even exist? Is it a mythical or mystical creature? To answer these questions; I guess there could be a mythical or mystical blue fox in some fairy tale book. There is such thing as a blue fox, but it’s not an animal. And apparently, some guy named Ylvis is trying to figure out what foxes say, but I don’t think he’s figured it out yet. Yes, there is such a thing as a blue fox, but it’s a restaurant that is called BlueFox Indian Bar & Grill. Located in the new and trendy West End Shopping center, this quaint restaurant is serving some really delicious food and I think it’s worth stopping by to check out. Sure, there’s plenty of great restaurants in this area to try and Indian food might scare you, but don’t be scared. Instead, keep and open mind and check this place out. This was our first experience with BlueFox, but certainly not our first go-round with Indian food so we had an idea of what to compare it against. I think the more trendy and modern décor inside is inline with the look of West End instead of going with more authentic decorations, etc. Staff were very friendly and helpful with the menu and answering any questions we had. But enough of the restaurant, lets get to that yummy food. While we ordered some adult beverages and looked over the menu, our server brought out«chips». Not the kid of chips we were expecting, but are a must have before any meal or as the owner would say(who we had the chance to meet), «They go great with some cold beer!» I would certainly agree with that statement and you should most definitely ask for them. These chips were some kind of crispy, puff, little diamond thing, simply made with some dough and spices then fried. Yummy! We placed our order, my wife went for a special — Fire Garlic Shrimp and I went for a recommended dish called Chicken Chettindau. While we waited for our dishes to arrive, yet another surprise arrived at our table, the Executive Chef and a scallop appetizer. My wife thought they were a little over done(maybe just a tad), but I thought they had good flavor and there wasn’t anything left. Our food arrived and both dishes looked delicious, presented nicely and I was ready to start trying what was in front of me. We’ll start with my wife’s dish. Five grilled prawns, marinated with olive oil, chopped garlic, cayenne pepper, lemon juice and mustard powder — served over a bed of bahar rice and lemon grass with a tomato reduction and grilled sweet potato. While this was on the spicy side for my wife, I thought the dish was very good. It wasn’t under cooked or over cooked and the tomato reduction was delicious. As for my Chicken Chettinadu, I thought this dish was also very good and with plenty of heat. Prepared with boneless chicken breasts that is slow cooked with onions, tomatoes, coriander, curry leaves, garlic, chile and served with coconut rice and traditional bread. Again, I thought the dish was really good with a lot of different flavors for your mouth to enjoy. Are either of these dishes going to make you go — Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow!, Hatee-hatee-hatee-ho! or Tchoff-tchoff-tchoffo-tchoffo-tchoff?! Maybe not, but the food is still delicious! We finished our evening with a little vanilla ice cream dessert that was covered with a fresh pureed blue berry mixture that was actually a good pallet cleanser. If heat and all kinds of crazy seasonings and flavors aren’t your thing, don’t worry, they have a vast menu and not everything is made hot and spicy. So… venture out, see if you can find the secret of the fox, but if you end up deep in the woods, you’ve gone too far! Hey! even my little guy enjoyed his meal of oranges! ;)

Loved the food! Amazing flavors, great variety of options, and attractive presentation. My fiancé went from skeptical about South Indian food to loving it. We’re wishing that they delivered. I recommend the vada pav slider(you won’t regret it), rasam soup, spring dosa, and sambar with vada dumplings. My fiancé had the chicken chettinadu, and he really enjoyed it. They brought us a carrot/beet/rice pudding dessert for celebrating our anniversary, and the flavor combo(though I was initially skeptical) was delicious. Will definitely come back, especially with those unfamiliar with South Indian food.

***FYI: This restaurant has discontinued the lunch buffet.*** Also: They do *not* have a tandoor oven, so their naan is illegitimate, and they do not offer classic tandoori dishes either. Bummer. They do however use a good amount of local sources for foods, and do not use MSG or conventional oils. Unfortunately, it seems like there are better options for either an organic eating of authentic Southern Indian Cuisine. Truly disappointing to discontinue the lunch hour anyway, especially since there is an exceptional desire for these at Indian Restaurants due to the ability to try multiple dishes at once without spending too much money or having to share dishes with large groups– constraints most people have that would prevent them from learning about the cuisine and appreciating it. So, the 2 stars slogan«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» seems very appropriate. I will be taking my friends and family to other locations to learn about and appreciate the type of food as they will have more variety(that gets rotated daily) and is at a more appreciable price-point. Also, the atmosphere is odd, and the lack of tandoor ovens and serving those sad-looking chicken dishes is enough to ward me away, back to my loved and cherished venues I frequent verrrrryy regularly anyway.

I dropped in on a Sunday lunch hour and tried their buffet. Beautiful food, flavours were authentic. It was underheated. Um, cold. Following complaints from other customers I was given my meal for free, no need to ask. Excellent customer service! Staff were young and enthusiastic, a good atmosphere created by the staff. The restaurant was empty, felt soul-less. The big TV’s showed basket ball. A strange atmosphere for an Indian restaurant. I’ll try again later, but like the other St. louis Park places the atmosphere is driven by wealthy American, the taste of India around the corner is much more authentic with less location and building ‘splash’
