From out of town and picked this place based in the star rating and was excited for lunch. Things went down hill from there. You fill out a sheet of paper to order. I’m fine with that as I understand that helps them but his lead to awful face to face interaction. We were scolded for moving our chairs in and out to sit down. We were blamed for not filling out what kind of soup we would like. The guy ended up choosing one and bringing it over then told us we didn’t put anything and rolled his eyes as he had to go back and change the soup… We felt incredibly awkward before we received our food. Wishful thinking that the food would be our savior. These we the smallest, blandest sandwiches you could imagine. Absolutely nothing special. McDonald’s grade lettuce, bottom of the barrel bacon and turkey… Bread was so mediocre. They must be known for catering because lunch, especially ordering and eating in house, was a terrible choice!

Under new ownership and still good. The seating situation is MUCH improved from the previous owner, and the service is considerably friendlier and quicker. The ordering is the same — create your order by checking boxes on a sheet and then turning it in — but the overall experience is better now. They also do Square now which is nice as before I felt the credit card situation was sketchy. I’m glad I checked this place out after the change — I had sort of gotten tired of the old Acme — I am glad the new Acme is here!

Best lunch in St. Paul. These sandwiches are made using the best breads, meats, cheeses and veggies you can find. It is also priced great and they serve quick. I almost always build my own sandwich but the person I was with got their special this month which was a reuben and said it was the best he had ever had. The biggest drawback to this placed used to be its lack of seating. However, I was there just recently and was happy to see that they now have the storefront next to them as well. So now there is plenty of room if you prefer to stay there and eat.

Hands down, favorite deli in the twin cities. Been coming here for 10 years; now I live out of state and I always make a stop here when I am in town visiting family. Independently owned, FRESH bread from local bakery, customizable fresh sandwiches, easy to order using the order slips, variety of chip and drink choices, friendly service and delivery available. What is not to love! Only thing to remember is you don’t go here for ambience. This is what I may classify as a ‘dive’ deli, whether they are trying to be or not. It is small, industrial looking and somewhat dated, so remember you are going here for the sandwiches, not the décor. Do yourself a favor and give Acme your business, not Jimmy John’s!

I’m here a couple times a week, at least, since my office is right around the corner. The employees have always been polite and kind – and they remember your name, which adds to its small town, neighborhood atmosphere. The food has always been great – I love the wild rice bread. It’s a great place for a no nonsense lunch. I highly recommend it.

I have used Acme Deli 2x in the last 6 months to cater events and both times my guests went nuts asking who I used to cater. Buns were super so fresh and delicious, all ingredients were above average in quality, they deliver for free and they gave us great pricing. Today I stopped in for a sandwich at lunch and my sandwich was so good!!! Great bread, fresh ingredients, they were quick and very friendly. Plus, they had cookies from PJ Murphy’s bakery!

They didn’t know how to use the living social $ 5 for $ 10. Said it needed to be printed or used in an app. I showed it in the living social app! They were confused and my quick lunch turned into a whole production. If you don’t know how to use technology please don’t use Groupon or living social.

I have used this deli twice for catered events and they provided for both flawlessly. The first event was a surprise birthday party for 40. Sandwiches were very fresh and perfectly packaged, the second event was for 75 and again flawless execution and lovely people to deal with. Fresh, Crisp and Packaged very well. I highly recommend Acme for special events.

I ordered Acme Deli for an office shin dig. I ordered for about 35 employees. Even though they are not necessarily set up for doing large catering numbers, they pulled it together. The food was fresh, tasty, and made with love. We had the #1, #2, #3, 36, brownies, cookies, and salad. They were not equipped to provide salad dressing to such a large group, so one of the employees went out and bought us a couple bottles of dressing! AWESOME! Also, we originally ordered rice krispy bars, but unfortunately they did not have enough to meet our needs. The employee called us a day prior to apologize and give us the news, and then offered alternatives. Amazing customer service and follow up. The delivery guy was super friendly and right on time. I could not have asked for a better experience. Oh and they were super affordable! We got WAY more food for about $ 100 less than our normal Jimmy John’s order! Let’s just say that Acme will be getting that business from now on! Thank you Heather and Mike! You both rocked it! Sincerely, Reeher LLC

I’ve been thinking about writing a review for awhile but it wasn’t until now that I feel like I should. First of all let me just say I am a firm believer in the small business. I love hole in the wall finds and family owned establishments. Having said that I was sorely disappointed by Acme. The food is good, but the customer service is terrible. Awhile ago I walked in and ordered $ 20 worth of sandwiches for which they accidentally added a 0 and charged me $ 200. I wasn’t offered a receipt and had no idea until I had left and happened to check my bank account. Knowing it was a simple accident I called to see if they could fix it. I was directed to the boss who was beyond rude about the entire situation. She basically implied that it was my fault and there was nothing she could do. Seeing that I really didn’t want to spend $ 200 on sandwiches I called my bank and explained the situation. They understood and told me what I should do. After about an hour of back and forth finally the lady at Acme said she would void my transaction and call me back. A bit later she called back and explained what she had done and then said that she needed my credit card info again so she could charge me for the sandwiches since she had voided the entire purchase. I was a bit taken back, after hours of dealing with her rudeness and no apology for the error on there part now she wanted me to trust them with my info and make me pay again?! So much for customer service. Since then I have steered clear of Acme but have heard other stories from family about the same lady’s unfriendliness. In fact my sister saw that they were hiring and since she lives down the street applied. It was the worst encounter ever. When my sister arrived on time the lady told her that she was a waste of time since she hadn’t shown up earlier and other rude things. Needless to say my sister left happy about not having to endure a job working for someone so unpleasant. It truly is sad though because the food is delicious and it is so quick and close to our house. However, the poor customer service has put a bad taste in my mouth towards Acme for a long time.

The first time I came here, I arrived at about 3:15pm, and walked in. The greeting I received from a woman behind the counter was, «We’re closed, didn’t you see the sign,» in an accusatory tone. I explained that I did see both signs on the windows, one saying open and the other saying closed. «Oh, we’ll, we’re closed,» she said. I said, «Oh, ok. Thanks.» As I walked out, another employee said since they had just closed a few minutes ago, that they would still make me a sandwich if I wanted. After being accused of not reading their signs, I certainly didn’t want to infuriate them any further, so I said, «That’s ok, thanks,» and left. The day before my Groupon expired, I woke up two hours early(I work the night shift) at 2pm so I could use my Groupon before it expired. When I arrived, I walked in and they said they were closed. I said,“I thought you closed at 3pm?” They said they closed at 2pm that day because of the heat… I woke up early again the next day and finally got to order some food. The guy at the counter was friendly. The food was ok. As I left, someone said«Thank you!,» which was nice.

First time visit this past Saturday. Loud radio music playing. No greeting extended to us upon entering. We stood there at the counter and just observed the activity. After we were finally acknowledged, I ordered their egg salad on lite rye bread with some lettuce. Despite the blaringly loud music, we opted to «eat in» so as to eat at a table. They certainly do have a nice selection of soft drinks displayed in their help-yourself coolers. I went for the Pellegrino Blood Orange soda. And as usual, the Rachel’s Salt and Vinegar chips were good. The egg salad, however, was flavorless. I could taste the rye flavor of the bread, but pretty much zilch flavor from the egg salad. Also, the shredded lettuce they put in the sandwich was fairly«rusty»(not freshly cut) and unappealing to the eyes. My companion was very disappointed by the stale onion roll that encased his roast beef with other accoutrements. Too bad we’ve one more Groupon left for this place…

My studio mate and the toddlers stopped into Acme Deli today for a quick lunch. The service is really nice. You can make your own sandwich or order one of their specialties. Studio mate and I opted for the Italian sub, and I got each kid a, «Kidwich» which is a regular sandwich with less meat and cheese. One kid had their special roast beef with cream cheese, cukes and tomato on rye bread, the other had a make your own salami and mozz on a roll. Nothing special here, the subs were good, fresh bread and veggies, but the quality of the meats was just ok. I tried both kids sandwiches adn they were similar to what we make at home. Now, the tough part. The place is dated. The tables and chairs in desperate need of repair in a cramped setting in front of the«kitchen». When I say kitchen, it looks like a throw together operation with old tables lined together to form the service counter. The deli case has to be at least 20 years old. People are washing dishes, cutting meat, answering phones and assembling sandwiches all in the open. They were all working hard, and it seems to be a big catering operation. Finally, I ordered a cookie after our sandwiches for the girls. The counter person had a toothpick in his mouth. Not really what I want to see from a food service perspective.

In all honesty, I didnt even know this place existed until I saw a recent Groupon offering. On a whim, I purchased the $ 5 for $ 10 and made my way to Snelling & St. Claire. I was in a rush and arrived 5 minutes before the posted closing time(3pm). I normally wouldnt even go into an establishment that close to closing – just out of courtesy – but since I was starving I decided to tempt karma. Everyone there was surprisingly nice about it and encouraged me to order as normal. They mentioned which breads had sold out for the day and even took time to walk me through the menu and ordering process since it was my first time there. The gentleman who made my sandwiches also recommended breads and soup, and handled my Groupon without any fuss. I probably delayed their closing by a good 10 minutes, and I really appreciate their attitude about the whole thing. The food was really tasty. The bread, in particular, stood out to me. Both the rye(which I paired with turkey) and marble rye(roast beef) were outstanding. It tasted incredibly fresh even though I was there at the end of the day. The cream of asparagus soup which they recommended was also extremely good. I tried the pasta salad as well – nothing spectacular, but still very tasty and a fraction of the price youd pay at Byerly’s(for example). The prices are good, in my opinion. Sandwiches of that quality are certainly worth $ 5-$ 6. Youd pay that at Subway for a far lower class experience. They also do box lunches in which you can pair soups, salads, chips and sandwiches… Many of these are under $ 8. Overall, I was impressed with this place and kinda wished I had known about it earlier. Id definitely go back for lunch, or even swing by to pick some snacks up for later. Pros: high quality sandwiches, very affordable, cozy place, friendly staff, Groupon Cons: Street parking is always hit and miss, they close at 3pm, not a lot of seating so probably not the best if you have a large group

This is a wonderful little hole in the wall deli. They have limited hours, so check ahead of time. The Italian Sandwich can’t be beat. These are thick sandwiches with good bread, quality meat(and plenty of it), and cheese and veggies. Countless combinations are available. If you love good sandwiches, stop in here and try one.

Was in town visiting a friend and he took me here for some lunch. Las Vegas doesn’t have a lot of these types of mom and pop places so I was definitely excited to stop in. The décor is very much simple and to the point. Its not very big but who cares, its all about the food and the people helping you. I picked up the order form and went to work. I loved that I could get sprouts, why can’t all sandwich places have sprouts!!! I stocked up my turkey sandwich with bacon, lettuce, sprouts, cheese, mustard and was excited to try it. My friend told me he visits all the time when he is in the area so I have to assume its pretty good! I also got some chili. Since it was late in the afternoon the food got served to us pretty fast because no one else was in there. When I finally got to eat it, yum! I enjoyed the sandwich and the chili. It was a great meal and would totally come back here if I am ever in town again. I love going to non tourist places and get the feel of the city. This place definitely gave me that!

I kind of feel like Lisa M. It’s the first time I’ve ever been here. My East coast roots always turn up when it comes to a tuna sandwich. I liked that they had a kaiser roll, but it wasn’t fresh, not exactly stale, so it wasn’t soft like you need for a sandwich. This wasn’t good tuna, the havarti cheese on it was though. I won’t give a bad review on tuna alone, just order something else on bread. They have a great variety of drinks, and I’m impressed with the variety of Sweet Leaf brand iced teas in large cans. They have Virgils brand of cream soda and something else, why not the rootbeer?

If you’re looking for good pastrami and corned beef, Acme Deli is a competitive option in Mac-Groveland. I enjoyed my pastrami sandwich here for lunch, with tender warm meat and just a pleasant hint of brine. I wish there had been more meat on the sandwich, since a traditional New York style pastrami sandwich is piled eye high with meat. But for what I paid, I felt it was reasonable. My lunch companions spoke favorably about the tuna sandwich too, and there are plenty of vegetarian options too! Service was quick and polite, and even though they had run out of the potato roll they were more than happy to substitute wheat. Overall, an excellent lunch but be warned, it’s a tiny store front and gets pretty crowded at lunch!

So i just went to Acme for the first time since it came under new ownership and i have to say the experience was a complete disaster. First off, my sandwich looked like it was made by someone who had never even heard of the concept of a sandwich before. They gave me a ton of salami, but it was all stacked together on one side of the sandwich. Then on the other side they did the same thing with the pepperoni. They just grabbed the meat out of the package and put it on the sandwich as is. Then i got cole slaw as a topping. It was like they just put a a half teaspoon of that on there. Second, the chili was awful, and by awful i mean extremely bland. It tasted like i was eating nothign more than some tomato juice and ground beef. Last but not least, the service was horrible. There were only two people in front of me and i waited 20 minutes for my horrible meal. This place has been a fixture in the neighborhood for a long time now, so this new owner better not screw it up! Maybe it was just a really bad day there, but that was about as bad as it gets. If that was my initial experience at that place i guarantee i wouldn’t be coming back.

Smashed in there! Visited Acme on a recent lunch break to pick up a sandwich. I knew it was going to be small, but it was really small. I said, ‘hey, we can sit on the lawn chairs facing the street and eat!’ We of course did not. I ordered a sandwich with — turkey, ham, Havarti dill(mmm), pickles, lettuce, tomato, and cucumbers on caraway rye. It was good, but nothing great, except the size. I was surprised at how much they really stuff on there. The counter service was fine, they have a real operation going, and I enjoyed writing the order down so if something was missed, it wasn’t my fault. I would not go there during the winter, there’s no place to wait. It was fine sandwich and can of pop at $ 6 something, but it’s too cramped to not be irritated while waiting or eating with all those people in there.
