I just had a great private pilates lesson with Kim Larsen at Core Pilates. It my first session and was so fulfilling and dispelled many of my long-held beliefs about what pilates is(lots of straining and pain… definitely wasn’t that!) The space is beautiful, lots of sun and wood floors, and the studio offers so much by way of classes: mat, reformer, yoga, and a few others that were totally new to me! I can’t wait to go back.

O.k. I’m gonna share something with y’all. This feels sort of like a confession. For 2 years now, I have been taking pilates classes here with Rachel. On occasion, I’ve also had other instructors when Rachel was unable to be there. I started out in a beginner’s mat class and then added a reformer(group) class. Eventually, I discontinued the mat class and now keep up only with my weekly reformer class(5 students). 4 of the 5 students have been in this same class since its formation 2 years ago. We and our teacher have bonded as a group. I consider this weekly session to be of grave importance, and dread even the idea of possibly needing to give it up for some future job. I cannot, no, I will not give up this mid-week, mid-day class for just any old job. It’s my therapy. With Rachel’s vast knowledge about muscles and movement of the human body(she’s a former ballet/modern dancer), and ever-helpful verbal and physical/touch cues, I have learned so much about my own body and how to help it best perform core strengthening exercises. In the long run, I believe that with this practice, I’ve improved the condition of my back after years of trying to cope with the residual pain from a rear-end auto collision in 2000. The space is good, lets in lots of natural light, one wall is lined with mirrors, all sorts of props are available, including the standard mats & blankets. The owners, Rachel and Dec, are friendly and knowledgeable. And I think above all, Dec is a yoga guy. In addition to pilates, they also offer some yoga classes with various instructors. I went to some Sunday a.m. classes with«Ted» last year and I really enjoyed them, each class lasting 1.5 hours. I am ever thankful that this studio is a 5 minute walk down the street from me… Whew! I feel soooo much better having gotten THAT off my chest!
