Schnucks didn’t have an organic option for one of the Dirty Dozen: apples. I had to ding them a star right off the bat for that one. Otherwise, the produce section looked great. The avocados were on sale during my visit and looked beautiful. They weren’t even close to being past their prime and there was a large selection. And, who doesn’t like stocking up on avocados when they are on sale for $ 1 each?! It’s not a huge store but there is a decent variety and it’s clean.

I stopped in here a few weeks back to grab some supplies like BBQ sauce, beer, and toiletries I couldn’t fly with. This is one of the older Schnuck stores. This was my home grocery store when I lived in St. Peters. I’ve always found the staff to be helpful. They have helped me find things that were out of stock a few times. The cashier this visit was super pleasant. She even asked where my party was since I was buying all the local beer and BBQ. Nice friendly supermarket.

Boars Head meat and cheese. Oh yeah, baby. Even has low sodium poultry. Some loose meats and cheeses, you feel your being cheated, but not Boars Head. I live closer to the newer Schnucks at Rock Road & Lindbergh. They don’t have the good stuff, at least last time I checked. I do wish they had a larger health food /organics section. The produce has been over ripe many times I’ve gone in. I have purchased fruit that seemed not yet ready to ripen and within 24 hours its is over ripe. I bought some blackberries and raspberries with plans to make a berry tart the next day. I thoroughly looked over both product packages, I opened and glanced around inside to make sure there were no berries starting to turn, I even looked on the bottom, they looked superb and I was looking forward to that tart the following evening. By 11 am when I pulled the raspberries & blackberries out of the fridge to rinse and start baking, more than half of the berries were covered in mold. I was so very upset. I was close enough to the store and it was still early enough in the day, I went back to the market and was given the option of trading them for new ones. So I went with that option. I did not look at all the packages but I looked over quite a few and most were moldy. My disappointment was visible. I was given a rain check to use next time I was in, but now I had no tart for desert. I have had the same issue with some nagged salads, they get overly wet/mushy after 1 or 2 days, to mushy to use. But overall, the Jungerman/HWY 94 store has very attentive employees who will assist you when you are unable to locate an item.

Review a supermarket? Ok, I will. :) This is one of the older grocery stores in the area which means I like it. The smaller the store, the better in my opinion. It’s not small, just small compared to the newer Schnucks stores. It has Boar’s Head deli meats and cheeses. Gluten free! That’s a plus in my family. I’ve never had a problem with the produce at this store. Last Christmas when I needed two pounds of green beans and the ones out looked bad, I simply asked the produce employee on duty and he pulled out a new box of wonderfully fresh green beans. This store is always clean. If a grocery store isn’t clean, that’s a dealbreaker. The cashiers are generally pretty quick. There’s one I avoid but if you frequent the store, you’ll know who that is. :) Sometimes I help bag my own groceries because the baggers are busy but it’s never because they’re slacking off. Finally, I swear that this Schnucks makes the best donuts… and that’s even with Paul’s Donuts being around the corner. Happy shopping!

St Louis one of two family owned grocery stores in St Louis. Schnucks has multi locations. This location is one of the oldest. Clean and staff is very helpful. Great meat department, and healthy selection of veggies. Good bakery department. Best grocery in this area.
