I used to order out their Cuban sandwich which was quite good. However, the past few times it was only okay — and once it was stone cold sober in the middle. I won’t be ordering it anymore though because they no longer take phone orders. Too bad. I don’t have time during my lunch half hour to sit at a hot outside table and wait.

Great burger and cheese steaks. I’m lactose intolerant but my dairy consuming friends rave about their milk shakes.

Hey new owners – You must have bought Dairy Inn because you liked it –we assume. Then why are you changing the appeal and taste of the store? It’s terrible! Dairy Inn was known for all sorts of goodies-but mostly they had GREAT soft serve. In steps new ownership and BAM –they change it and the food menu. They took out two soft serve ice cream machines– that could in part server 4 kinds of soft serve ice cream. Now they have one machine and only have VANILLA.(Always out of the second flavor) Plus, the mix is terrible at best –icy and flat flavored-CHEAP. Come on folks –at least have CHOCOLATE! The food menu is paired way down and differently not the same quality of food. While were at it –please hire more friendly staff – they all look they their in detention at school. Spend some time talking to us customers who have been coming there since the 70s and you’ll know why your reputation is declining FAST. Love the huge flat screen TV in the kitchen-Must have those priorities in order! A huge shame to have taken such a landmark and cheapen it down to what it is today! SHAME!

I love this place! I’m a NYC girl that moved back down to FL where I originally grew up, to get away from the cold too like that owner I read about in an article in «I love the Burg». Their burgers are what I have been missing for years! They are just like the burgers I grew up with as a child! Ironically they were from a restaurant down south called… Biff burger! I was floored to see one in st pete! Went there & their burgers were nothing like when I grew up. A friend said you most try the dairy inn burgers… I walked down there from my house in the neighborhood &WOW! They are killing it! So yummy & a line to the street! I suggest getting the fries well done to be perfect! I’m happy to see his vision & escape from the concert jungle paid off. Great job!

update: no improvement. when you order chili, cheese tots, you get 6 tater tots loaded with gritty chilii. If you order plain tater tots, you get a bag full. Hint: skip the chili.

Been here quite a few times because i live close. Somehow they mess up my girlfriends order every time and mine comes out right. The burgers are good, the wings are big. Theyre menu recently took a big hit and half of the selection is gone.

Love the butterfinger spoon benders. I came here for coffee and beignets this morning but no coffee. They don’t serve coffee anymore? What’s up w that? How can you serve beignets without coffee??? Anyway, it’s a cute little old ice cream place nonetheless.

Unassuming ice cream shop that has quite the extensive menu. We have been coming here for many years and it is always good. I will admitt I mostliy come here for the ice cream and shakes but I plan to start trying more of the savory fair as well. It does concern me though that the menu is so large that maybe it will be hard to make any one thing really good. We will see. Worth the visit if you jsut want to have a great helping of soft server and enjoy sitting outsite watching the traffic go by on 9th st.

Oh yes, the over-hyped Dairy Inn. Dairy Inn is a little take-out hut on MLK, you can’t miss it when driving by. The menu is hit or miss, and sometimes they are just sold out of everything or not even open. Seating is outside and under the overhang of the building, with surprisingly clean tables in the morning only. Expect to be sitting with smokers. Last time I was here, at least one table was smoking. It will make your experience as unbreathable as possible. I came here on a bright and sunny Saturday for some beignets and a pistachio soft serve milkshake. Based on the wonderful beignet reviews, I was quite surprised at the flat greasy pancakes I received. After many visits to New Orleans, I know better, but maybe the locals don’t? These beignets were previously made and fried, then re-fried again for my non-enjoyment. Deflated, sad, soaked through with old grease, and… Well, I could not even taste them because the dirty lady sitting at the picnic table next to me was smoking a cigarette. I could only taste her cigarette. Keep it classy ya’ll. After trying to catch Dairy Inn during their dodgy open hours and early closings, it was difficult enough to find them open on a Saturday. Just expecting a little more from a local business.

By the name I imagined some dairy cows hunkering down for the night at this place, but lucky for us it just houses their milk used in their ice cream! I sampled the maple walnut ice cream with chocolate sprinkles. Delish! Simple, maple-tasting creamy ice cream. It tasted kind of like pancakes. Like this little stand!

This place is alright, and didn’t really live up to the reviews. Though, I give it 4stars for the food and adequate ice cream. I got a burger and cookies n’ cream ice cream cone. The burger was cooked well, but nothing special about it. I feel like it was a bit too salty and drenched with too many condiments. The ice cream is pretty good and was what I expected. One of the biggest issues is the bathroom. It was pretty gross and smelled pretty bad. So I recommend not using it. I will probably try this place again due to its extensive menu and rotating ice cream flavors. But I’ve had better quality food and ice cream.

Just the way it should be. Old school, cheap and so good. Greasy greatness. I’m looking forward to coming back with the kids and trying other burgers… There Sundae list is incredible and their dip cones are just like we used to get when we were kids.

Went here today for the first time. As soon as we got to the counter they told us their computers were down. A common accident, I didn’t think much of it and understood if we had to wait a little longer. We went ahead and place our order, a red velvet milkshake, a cotton candy milkshake, an almost famous cheeseburger and a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. So we waited about 4 minutes for our milkshakes, and they were incredible. Wonderful thickness to them, but not enough to where you couldn’t slurp it through a straw. But then we kept waiting, and waiting and waiting and waiting. 25 minutes later, in the dying heat of southern Florida during the summer, we decided to ask what the problem was. They said since their computers were down, they purposefully did NOT put our food orders in because they assumed we didn’t want to wait. so this entire time, we could’ve had our burgers after 10 to 15 minutes but they assumed wrongfully and we had to wait an entire hour for two burgers. The burgers were great! But not worth the poor customer service and time spent waiting. Would like to go back again soon and see if this was just a one time had experience.

I LOVELOVE this place. It’s the only ice cream joint so far in FL that I know has red velvet ice cream. I fell in love with that red velvet since day one and ever since then when I’m in Tampa/St Petes area I try to stop here whenever possible. The prices are cheap and portion is big. You get your money’s worth. The red velvet is just heavenly, with smooth icing and nice chunks of soft red velvet cake. It always hits the spot. Mmmm mmm I would die happy eating this as my last meal.

A lot of selection on ice cream flavors! My friend had the coffee ice cream scoops on a cone, which she loved. I had the hot fudge brownie parfait. I thought it tasted ok. The fudge melted the soft serve ice cream between it so I was basically eating a shake with a spoon. I wasn’t a fan of it, but won’t mind trying other flavors or things they have on their menu.

As far as burger shacks go, this is it. Giant breakfast(tasty) for $ 4 – 6. Beignets to die for. Cheesesteak is on point. Ice cream — both soft serve and hand-scooped available-is excellent. My only«complaint» is that it isn’t exactly the most healthy food in the world, but that goes with the territory. Still the best place in SP to get a quick, inexpensive, fresh burger, fries, or onion rings(awesome).

Like Sylvia’s Queen of Soul Food, this is a place I take all my out of town visitors. Places like Sylvia’s and Dairy Inn are things they are not likely to experience elsewhere. How do I describe it? I start off by saying it opened in the forties as a Dairy Queen and if you put up a Dairy Queen sign and parked old cars a lot you think it was a fifties Dairy Queen museum. But that description doesn’t do justice to the menu. Even saying its a Dairy Queen menu on a double dose of steroids doesn’t go far enough. The selection is good and the portions are large. many of my visitors just eat half a hamburger and save the rest for later. I have usually ordered sandwiches but on one occasion ordered breakfast. the food has always been great. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait but remember the food is cooked to order. It’s not fair to compare the speed with the cook and hold places. this is good food at a reasonable time not fast food

It isn’t much to look at it. From the street, it’s a dive-y little stand that’s questionable at best. As such, I’d never been there, nor had I planned on ever going. When I finally did, I was pleased. I have no idea about the other food served here, but the ice cream is quite good. The staff was also nice and patient which is always a plus. It is different than other frozen treat places. For one, the ice cream you’re ordering isn’t visible via picture or sitting out in the freezer case for you to point at. Also, it took an eternity to come to us after we ordered it. I wanted to be annoyed by how much longer it was taking than I’m used to, but in the end, I realized the quality of the ice cream was totally worth it. Very, very tasty.

This is one of those heavenly places where you are hungry, craving something unhealthy, yet want to support local places instead of those fast food chains. GATHERINGPLACE It may not be the shiniest building around, but after passing this outdoor-only building and always seeing a mini line, I knew I had stumbled onto a community establishment. There’s always families and couples eating at the surrounding picnic tables. Sometimes I’m worried because of all the very young faces serving – but the adults are cooking in the background and the young staff has always been friendly. COMFORTFOOD The Chili Bacon Cheeseburger was fatty and gooey and looked visually unappealing but dang that bacon taste was strong. Aw – for that price there was no Fries? The much advertised Beignets were very soft and light inside, but the outside was too chewy as if it had been left out after frying. Since my teeth had to tear through, the entire thing deflated once I took a bite. There’s LOTS of ice cream related goods and the workers are happy to mix together items not on the menu. My Espresso Chocolate Milkshake came in a very plain Styrofoam cup, but tasted creamy, thick and mildly chunky. It’s not soft serve icy quality, but not insanely fatty either. Just right. I’LLBEBACK I’ll admit, the burgers and desserts are not gourmet, top-notch, best-in-the-world… but I’m still going to return many times. They don’t have many great combos(prepare to buy all the good stuff individually).
