Visited El Jimador today for the first time. I read the reviews for this restaurant and three others before deciding to try El Jimador over the others based on the reviews. Honestly, I was a bit disappointed. First off, the service was not that great and considering that the restaurant was not that busy, the server checked on us once but paid more attention to the two younger attractive young females more, but don’t get me wrong, they were friendly and my wife and I gave that part of our review a 6. Second, the food was not bad but definately not that great and certainly not the most authentic. We ordered 3 basic items to prove out our review; 3 carne asada tacos with a side of beans. The meat was a bit salty and the tortillas were almost falling apart by the time they arrived to out table, plus they had no cilantro or onions or even ravanos. Anyone who really knows good tacos de carne asada from an authentic restaurante, for example;King Taco, Olvera Street or even street tacos from Tijuana, would know that those 3 items are a must. Plus!, these type of tacos, especially if they are served with corn flour tortillas, should be served with the meat on top of TWO corn tortillas… not one. The tacos we gave a 6. The side of beans though were a lot better. Cooked just right but not perfect, we gave them an 8 for the beans. I read in other reviews that the salsa was homemade, sorry to disappoint those reviews… but, the salsa is bottled bought salsa. The pico de gallo on the other hand for the tacos was homemade, so cuddos for that. Third, brings me to the drinks. Now a days it is hard to find a Mexican restaurant that still serves Orchata. To my surprise El Jimador did have Orchata on their menu… with excitement I ordered it… but the server returned a few seconds later and broke the bad news to me that they ran out. Note, how do you run out of Orchata at 1pm in the afternoon. An authentic restaurant should always carry or have drinks such as Orchata, jamaica, tamarindo on hand. In that section, we gave them a 5…(gave half credit for having orchata on their menu, but took half for«running out».) Number 4, the price. When we got our bill, we were shocked, but not surprised, after all, Mexican restaurants tend to be pricier in non traditional states/places for a Mexican restaurant. But $ 14.50 for 3 tacos, a side of beans and a sierra mist is over priced. Tacos in Mejico, L. A, Texas are usually 1.25 to 1.50 in todays economy… and considering that their #26 combo item of 1 taco, 1 burrito and beans is 7.50…the math doesnt add up. For the price section we gave them a 6. Number 5, atmosphere and cleaniness. We couldn’t really see in the kitchen, but in the customer seating area it was pretty clean and other customers seemed to be enjoying themselves and the restaurant restrooms were clean. Gave them an 8 for that(since we couldn’t vouch for the kitchen). Oh!, if your an authentic Mexican restaurant, you should definately have Tapatio hot sauce, not others such as Tex Pete or Chalupa. Overall, we gave El Jimador an overall average score of 7 for these reasons and too many other reasons(reasons that would define a true Mexican restaurante). We will be visiting the other Mex restaurants in the area in the following weeks so stay posted for our reviews. Our intent was not to bash El Jimador, just to give honest opinions. It was a good establishment but it can certainly be better. Thank you El Jimador.

Ten years of coming and going to this area for Fort Leonard Wood and many Mexican places have come and gone. This one has stood the test of time for a reason. Decent Mexican food in an area where it’s tough to find. Not the greatest Mexican you’ll ever eat, but it’s the best in the area. The staff here is always awesome and service is tough to beat when compared to their competitors. Every meal I’ve had here is tasty. You can start judging any Mexican place by its chips and salsa, they are good. Overall, this is one of those places I’ll come back to so long as Uncle Sam continues to send me to this area.

Decent looking place, service was fast, not very flexible with my order though – I had been looking forward to some enchiladas poblanas for the last couple hours but was surprised to find them not on the menu. A la carte ordering was possible, but when I asked for 3 chicken enchiladas with mole sauce I was told they«don’t do that.» They do have Pollo Mole, which is chopped chicken breast with mole sauce – I mean, seriously, how hard would it have been to make 3 chicken enchiladas and pour mole sauce over the top? Alas, I was told the chicken enchiladas«only come with red sauce.» The mole was more salty than sweet, with strong chili-powder notes – not the best mole sauce I’ve had by far. Rice and beans were fine. Decent place but customer service was a bit of a let down.****UPDATE****Ok – This place got knocked down to 2 stars after my 3rd bite of gristle in the Pollo Mole – that and realizing that the mole sauce actually tastes a little bit too much like salty chili. Probably will try a different place next time.

The atmosphere is relaxed as well as the service. The food is good but nothing that really leaves you thinking«wow this was great, I gotta have this again.

Needed to get my mex fix since its been a while and ended up at El Jimador nearby the main highway off post. It was a Tuesday so my boys and I were looking for a Taco Tuesday deal. Not here. Booooo. Establishment was clean and the service was prompt and very authentic. I.E., they spoke Spanish and you can ask for the homie hook up salsa that they keep in the back. Guess peeps don’t like it too spicy here in Missouri… Free chips and salsa came quickly on the table and you can tell an establishment by how fresh the chips and salsa were. This place was good! Anyways, asked for my go to meal to test out the waters and got the Chile Verde. That shyte was on point and it hit the spot! Came with Spanish rice and retried beans, and corn tortillas. Not bad for the price but the portion was on the smaller side. Im used to the large portions they give in San Francisco Mission district! They also had Dos Equis dark on tap and that was like $ 5 for a 32oz jug!!! Holla!!! Overall it was a great place to get your mex fix. The major drawback was that it allows smoking inside. Would have given 4 stars if They had a non smoking section cuz you can still smell that shyte everywhere. Definitely will be back though fo sho.

Fast service and LARGE portion sizes. The fajitas are $ 12 and can feed a family of 3 if it had to. The staff are friendly and overall the food tasted«alright». The steak was a tad chewy and the rice was a mixture of crunchy and soggy. The salsa had a dominate taste of tomato paste not a taste of freshly made. One person had to excuse himself from the table because the food«messed up» his stomach. This could be due to the grease/oil from the fajitas. I’ve been here before and usually would order the chicken chimichangas but defaulted to ordering what the majority of the group ordered. Nothing special about the food here but the portion size, friendly staff, overall decent flavor, cheap prices, clean atmosphere, ample parking and timely service it’s worth a visit.

Stunk of cigarettes. Dirty. Hair on plate. Difficulty understanding English. Ruined the dinner.

I see many like this place and have given it good reviews and said it reminded them of being home. Quite frankly you must live in a cave and have no idea how to cook. It’s a glorified Taco Bell the food is bland. I have not had any decent Mexican or Tex Mex Food in this area!

Decent food, definitely not the best Mexican food(as I was expecting from the other reviews). The place was kinda small and less than what I was expecting. Overall not bad though.

Good food considering we are far from anything even remotely Mexican– in fact, it felt far more ‘authentic’(whatever that means) than I expected. Don’t misunderstand, this is not one of the greats – as some others carefully cataloged in their reviews – but it is certainly good enough for me when braving Saint Robert. Staff was nice and attentive. They have a smoking section which will be welcome by some(and probably not so much by others). Portions are generous. Chips and salsa quality is above average. Prices are about right, plenty of under 10 dollars options– If you are hungry this is a great option.

Returning back to the area and stopped by here for some food. The taste has gone down some since I remember from the last time I was here. Still good food and good Tex-Mex style food.

Tasteless, way too greasy or over salted. Sadly this is not what I needed after a two day trek from Colorado. Perhaps CO Mexican food has me spoiled? I dunno but neither one of my boys ate their meals nor did I. One other tidbit, our server was cocky and on the rude side. 1.5 stars.

Love this place! Everything I have ordered here has been excellent – Fajitas Jalisco, Callo de Pollo(chicken soup), chicken soft tacos, Speedy Gonzalez, combos, guacamole, etc. Usually the service is great, but it can be slow if the place is packed. The prices are very reasonable and the lunch menu is a steal! You can easily have a large lunch for $ 5 – 7. Unfortunately they allow smoking in the bar area and in the evenings the whole place starts to smell smokey. I really wish they would ban smoking in the restaurant entirely and they would get more of my dinner business(and a 5-star rating). We tend to go here for lunch when it is not smokey or get take out at night to avoid the smoke. I recommend this place if you want good Mexican food with friendly service.
