When I was growing up in Southern California, my mom used to treat us to this little Mexican bakery in San Juan Capistrano that served up sweet breads and pastries that would melt in your mouth. Ahhh the joys of unrestrained carb consumption! Nowadays I try to be a little more careful with what I eat. I even try to exercise every now and then. On a recent visit to Salem, I decided to take a break from all the holiday eating and go for a brisk walk. I was doing pretty well, until three miles into my walk… I spotted the storefront of Daisy’s Mexican Bakery. I knew I shouldn’t but figured that my walk had earned me one last Christmas present to myself. So I went in. Wow…it was like being back in San Juan Capistrano. Three shelved cases filled with glorious pastries and rolls. I couldn’t decide on one, so I got two: a sweet roll topped with a sugar icing(not sure what it’s called, but I call it heavenly) and a long simple roll topped with butter and sugar. I ate them both. Oh, and guess how much they cost? $ 1.35TOTAL! What!!! All I can say is that it’s a good thing I don’t live in Salem or I would be a regular in no time. If you’re in the area, treat yourself and come to this gem. I wonder how many more times I could go before I leave town???

Went here with my daughter & husband while waiting for my other daughter to finish a performance at the Salem Fairgrounds & so glad we did. It seems like a little family bakery with fresh baked pastries most .60 cents. We bought a vanilla cream horn, strawberry jelly Danish & various sweat breads, total just $ 4.45. All were good & some you just need to dip into warm coffee or coco:) looking forward to returning when in the area.
