I have been bringing my three kids to Salem Pediatrics since moving to the area 15 years ago. The doctors, nurses and staff have always been friendly, knowledgable and courteous, but there have been many changes in operations in the past year or so (some internal and some based on parent feedback) that have greatly improved on the overall experience.
Booking appointments, particularly «day of» sick visits is a snap. The providers are grouped into «care teams» so that you typically will see the same handful of doctors and nurses every time you are there, if not your own physician. The office staff is always willing to provide you with options for other providers outside your team to accommodate your schedule as best they can. If your child needs to be seen they will make it happen.
The wait time has improved dramatically, and you are rarely left sitting in either the waiting room or exam room for more than 10 minutes or so. Given that this is a very busy office I find the wait time to be perfectly acceptable, and appreciate that they prioritize getting the sickest children out of the waiting room and seen by staff as soon as possible.
You do need to plan ahead for booking yearly physicals, but you are guaranteed your child’s doctor (if you choose) for consistency of yearly and routine care. My kids have also benefitted from the triage provided at the office prior to referrals to Salem Hospital (conveniently located across the street) for either stitches or Xrays.
I love the nurse call in line for answers to general health, well being and even behavioral questions; clarification on medications; etc. This was particularly helpful as a new parent. Phone calls are returned promptly (usually within an hour at the most) and nurses are happy to follow up with you as needed. I also loved the additional support I got with a lactation consultant when my firstborn and I had difficulty nursing.
Another great addition to the practice is the Patient Gateway site, which allows you to print health forms, contact a doctor and review your child’s records.
Most importantly, I never feel like my kids or I are shortchanged if we have questions or concerns. Salem Peds has been a tremendous partner in my children’s overall health and well being.

This office is very unorganized and unprofessional. The wait time is very poor, if you have a appointment for 9am they make you wait 30 to 45 minutes till they actually take you in. My daughters doctor doesnt even treat her like a patient, hes in a rush to get out of the appointment the minute he walks in, Hes been my daughters doctor since shes been a baby and he barley even knows the diagnoses she has or the problems wrong with her. I have to take control of my daughters health and request blood work or things to that nature when Im there because if I dont they pay no mind to her health. I broght my daughter in for a sick visit and the doctor on call that day who was a female kissed my daughter twice without my permission in the appointment. I am totally disgusted and was shocked at the moment didnt say anything but plan to call and file a report on her for kissing my daughter. I plan on switching her doctors immediately. I do not recommend this place at all.

I was a patient of this practice when I was a kid and now I take my three children there and the doctors are great. I can get same day sick appointments every time I call. I agree with one comment that they can get busy at times but I try and not make appointments for my kids at 5pm because it seems like everyone else is waiting to bring in their kids in after work, so it is a busy time of the day. They are open 7 days a week and I even had to bring in my son one year on Christmas day, which really stunk for him, and we were seen right away and it was better than waiting in the emergency room.

My son’s pediatrician is part of this office. I was also a long time patient here when I was a kid.
I love my son’s doctor. He is great, but unfortunately, the service at this office is ROTTEN!!! I know its a busy place… and its very very hard to get an appointment with short notice. It’s tough to remember to call 6 months in advance for an appointment when the average doctor’s office does not book that far out in advance. I find that EVERY single time I have called to make my son an appointment or get him in for a sick visit, I am left on hold for 20 minutes at a time, only to get extremely annoyed and just hang up the phone and call back.
They are overall pretty good at squeezing you in for a sick visit or for refilling prescriptions. In my experience, I have left messages for the nurse practitioner and 4 out of 5 times she will call back. There was, I believe one occurence where she did not contact me so I had to call her a 2^nd time. This goes for prescription refills, also. Sometimes these people need you to call them twice before they get their butts moving and call the stupid refill in to the pharmacy.
More often than not I have had to sit in the waiting room for at least 30 minutes after checking in ON TIME. Don’t get me wrong, I understand that doctors run behind. I worked for a doctor’s office. It happens, but believe me when I tell you that making a 2 year old sit still for 30 minutes is no easy ordeal.
I will give them some credit. Our doctor is great. He is a younger guy who actually has kids, so he knows what he’s talking about. One time I was in for a sick call and my son proceeded to projectile vomit all over me, himself and our belongings, and the nurses were very helpful with getting it cleaned up as disgusting as it was for them I’m sure! I felt really bad.
