I really used to love this place, but I rolled in for a late lunch today and was really disappointed. The sandwich was still good(recommend the corned beef and kraut) and to soup is fine(try the cheese broccoli if available). That’s the good news. What disappointed me was the condition of the place and the poor attitude of the staff. Both of these things have been very good in the past but something has gone very wrong. I counted more burned our light bulbs than working ones in the dining area, the radio channel playing on the P.A. system was tuned just a little off and was half-static, and my order was taken by someone who really wasn’t pleased that I was there. I worry about what is happening in the kitchen if the front of the house is growing so dim and disheartened. I really hope that this is a temporary condition that will be rectified. I’ll be back — but not right away. Keeping my fingers crossed that the place will be back to the cheerful and off-beat place I really enjoy. Oh, and please get the train running again?

Great bread bowl. I get the broccoli and cheddar. The beer and garlic fries are good and they have a good ranch as well. When I get the sand which I get the jalapeño bread and usually an Italian. This is one of my favorite sandwich shops. They also have a stamp card and decent prices.

Good service, great prices, and the largest sandwich I’ve ever seen from a sandwich shop. I was impressed and will be going back for sure!

Place a phone order, no complaints about speed that way. Easy ordering, kind employee on the phone was patient with answering my questions and I was able to pick up my phone order through the drive through so I didn’t have to leave my car, yay!(Hehe) I Do not do drive thrus usually. Cheese steak was roughly $ 8 with zesty garlic sauce and extra onions, on sourdough bread yum

I am trying all the places I can walk to from my work, regardless of reviews, and this was next. I think it deserves a solid 3. Pricing seems a little high, but fair, meatball sandwich was neither bad nor good, just ok, same with the fries, nothing was wrong with them, but just super generic. If you have smaller kids they may enjoy some of the train pictures and models they have, but nothing was exceptional

I used to love sandwich express, but the last 3 times I’ve been here they have seemed to become extremely lazy. Sandwiches come on the wrong bread with the wrong toppings. And this last time MOLD on my bread bowl!!! I will never return.

Been here 30+ times as its right by my work. It’s Far from express. Guaranteed 20 – 25 min with the drive through during lunch time. Same long wait inside. I ordered the kids meal($ 5) and was harassed about ordering a kids meal for an adult which was the employees pure assumption. They have a 12 sandwich purchase punch card for $ 4 spent or more. There’s no indication on the card that it can’t be used on $ 5 kids meals but the employee refused to punch the card. This is my third punch card. That means over $ 144 has been spent by me but they refuse on kids meals? The employees need to get on the same page because good customer service is sporadic. Today, I was ordering a kids meal for my child that I’m picking up. They had no right to guilt me for buying a kids meal. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. Lastly, the sandwich order was wrong when I opened it.

We were shut down by the brewery across the street for having a kid. Odd since the breweries in Portland have train tables and toy boxes and are generally considered a safe bet by local parents, yet in Salem that particular joint is a no-fly zone. So we ended up here for a break from the road. Kind of irritated from the last visit we just rolled through. The wife went in and I stayed in the car with the kiddo. Seemed like it took a while just for a couple sandwiches. Can’t comment on the service since I didn’t go inside. Ordered the Turkey and Cranberry and the Italian a cup of coffee and a side of potato salad for less than 13 dollars! The sandwiches were quite large and hearty, with generous portions of meat, if that’s your thing. The coffee was good, round full bodied brew, no signs of poorly brewed coffee like being overly bitter or acidic from baristas trying to save money by cutting back on grounds. The potato salad was good, had some acidity and a bit of tang.(good in potato salad, bad in coffee). What they don’t tell you about your«4-inch» sandwich is that it’s 4 inches by 4 inches, so your quaint sandwich isn’t that quaint. cool! The turkey portions were generous and moist, while the bread had the consistency of a thick slice of wonder bread slathered with a glorified jelly they called cranberry sauce. Where’s the tart bite of cranberry? My wife said, «When you bite into a sandwich, you don’t want every ingredient to be soft.» The sandwich had no tooth to it. The sweetness of the cranberry sauce overpowers the turkey and you forget you aren’t eating a jelly sandwich. The Italian offered allegations of cured meats and pepperoncini. I was driving so I couldn’t open the sandwich to check so I’m going based on the hearsay provided. Any sign of salami and pepperoni was very muted and the tang of pepperoncini was non-existent. Upon reviewing the menu, the sandwich did have a type of dressing which I figured some of the oil and vinegar may have run in with the mayonnaise, but now I see this dressing was intentional. Their«Italian dressing» tastes exactly like someone collected the runoff from the bottom of a bowl of coleslaw and poured it over the sandwich. Not an unwelcome accompaniment, but it is when it’s advertised as «Italian dressing», which is actually a thing. Again, the dressing is the only thing offering this sandwich any personality whatsoever. This sandwich did at least have the hearts of the lettuce offering a small amount of crunch. Overall, you could make a better sandwich at home with whatever odd fixings you have in your fridge for half the price. In terms of eating out, the price is pretty exceptional if you are feeling particularly desperate, drunk or broke. If you are looking for a cheap place to eat at the cost of time and taste, this is your place. If you’re looking for a sandwich place with some integrity, this is not.

I have been meaning to write a review about sandwich Express for some time, but never could find the time to do it. Then it occurred to me, what better time than while sitting in the drive thru. Why? Because it consistently takes forever to get your food at Sandwich Express. The food itself is very good, but the service is definitely lacking. The place seems to be run by teenagers have nothing better to do than socialize instead of making your food. It’s too bad that the service doesn’t match the quality of the food. Today I spent only 6 minutes waiting in the drive-thru. In the past, I have spent over 20 with no cars in front of me and ordering only one sandwich. Today is a good day. But to be sincere… the wait times are known for being fairly horrendous here. I hope this can be an eye opener for the owners. Great food!

Stopped in for a quick sandwich and almost didn’t stay. Tables were dirty. Floor wasn’t swept. Windows were filthy. The gal that waited on us didn’t greet us, just looked at us like she could care less. Obviously not a happy employee. Our 3 year old grandson was really hungry, so we didn’t want to try to find another place. Sandwiches were bland. My daughter and I both had a lot of stomach upset the rest of the day and night. Would never stop there again!

There is nothing express about this place. I was in the drive thru for almost 30 minutes. the prices aren’t great, either. I did like the sandwich, but it wasn’t worth the price or the wait. I got the garlic steak and cheese on wheat. It was good flavor, warm, and held up well. I can’t quite pinpoint what it was about the sandwich that just didn’t impress me completely. I won’t be back, but I wouldn’t say«never eat here» either.

I am absolutely surprised at all the negative reviews. Although a agree with the terrible parking, this place has some of the best sub sandwich and fries I have had in Oregon. I first tried this place about a month ago and have been back at least 3 to 4 times a week since. I highly recommend giving this place a try.

I have never been here before. We had a coupon so decided to give it a whirl. When we first walked in the place was about half full and the other half were pretty much all dirty tables. There was nobody in line and nobody out cleaning. The parking lot is absolutely terrible though. Square and tight parking. Saw a Ambulance come in and he couldn’t park in the lot so he went and parked up the road a bit on the street. The food itself was quite good. I got a smoked turkey footlong. I really liked the bread, it’s quite wide and was fresh and tasty. The toppings were a bit skimpy compared to like Subway, but the sandwich is so big it would take a lot of toppings to make it look good. Anyway I left full and fairly happy. Anyway, overall I would give it another try sometime. 3⁄5 because of the terrible parking lot and the dirty tables and soda counter.

Decent place with decent food. Much better than subway for not much more money. They are very busy for lunch which is OK. I only give then three stars because my wife’s coffee creamer was expired by two and a half months. I am not sure how that is even possible except by pure neglect and lack of diligence. Makes me wonder about other things. That is a VERY long time for something as simple as creamer. When brought to their attention we asked for non expired creamer which they didn’t have so they gave us milk instead. Milk would have been fine the first time, but how nobody noticed this is beyond me. They should be checking dates and making sure expired food products are not reaching customers. Besides that everyone was friendly and everything was good. Nice atmosphere and good place for lunch.

5 stars? really for Sandwich Express? Yes, been coming about twice a month now, and they’ve really turned things around. They literally have THEBEST veggie salad in town. Hand’s down. And it’s quite big, for only $ 6.99. A steal! And when i’m hankering for a good veggie sand, I order their Gardenburger. Again, quite good! Service is usually now more proficient, and not as slow as it used to be.

In a world where Subway reigns supreme, this sandwich option almost deserves all 4 stars I gave it. Subway has conditioned the masses that a $ 5 footlong is the standard. The footlong here is an entirely different ball game! It’s huge! Ok, negatives. Service isn’t terrible. It’s non-existent. I always feel like I’m putting the cashier out by bothering her. The sandwich delivery consists of tossing a basket on your table and walking away. No greeting when you walk in, no «thank you» on the way out. If the sandwiches weren’t great, I’d avoid this place entirely. The sandwiches. Great. Lots of options, tasty, fresh bread. The sandwiches are very wide and they put a good amount of meat and veggies on there. I can barely handle the footlong anymore! To wrap back, if Subway is your sandwich expectation, keep driving. If you’re into a good sandwich and don’t want any attention from anyone… this is your place!

I’m not surprised at the complaints about the service or lack thereof, but I am surprised people are not digging the sandwiches here. Went in on a weekend afternoon and there was nobody inside. No customers, no employees at the counter. Eventually someone came up front and we placed out orders. My friend went with the 4″ and I went with the 6″. Turns out I could have gone with the 4″ also because the sandwiches are really wide so they’re a lot bigger than a typical 6″. I thought the sandwich was excellent. Went with the fries as well and they were solid. Service was definitely slow for a sandwich shop, especially considering we were the only ones in there. Places like Jersey Mike’s slice the meat and cheese after you order and still get your sandwich to you very quickly. I love the irony of this place having«express» in their name… it’s like if McDonald’s changed their name to «Healthy Meal». The prices are pretty high as well, but it was a good sandwich and in the end that’s the most important thing.

BARF. I feel sick as I write this… and fear that I may lose what little food I was able to consume. Ordered a pepper jack chicken with garlic fries(side of ranch) and a small sprite. Also ordered a garden veggie salad with ranch for boss. Sprite: They were out of syrup. So glad I waited until I got back to the office to find this out. Trashed it. Chicken sandwich: Found what appeared to be a mouse turd in it. Seriously – I don’t know what else it could have been. Tossed it. Fries with ranch: Good fries, sour ranch. It was also very lumpy. My ranch didn’t match the ranch of my boss – who said his was just fine. But he tasted mine and agreed it was sour. Fucking lame.

My six inch sandwich was huge because the width is like three inches! I got the garlic zest Philly. Green peppers very fresh, lots of cheese, a pronounced garlic flavor. The price is a pretty spendy almost doubling Subway. The big drawback was that it took a long time to get our food. And there isn’t anyone here so i don’t know why. Definitely not for people with. 30 min lunch. I don’t even want to imagine what it’d be like during the lunch rush. A business like this can thrive or fail and I’m afraid they may be leaning toward the latter if they keep this up.
