A recognized century farm, Hartsell is perhaps most unique because they raise«endangered heritage breeds». I don’t actually know, not working there or anything, but I’ve always thought that you couldn’t, say, eat endangered animals. Regardless, they do have the Tennessee Fainting goat — or goats, to be more precise, and that’s certainly interesting. They also have the rare Gulf Coast sheep. Perhaps less interesting. Whatever you choose, they use no antibiotics, hormones or steroids, and all animals are raised on grass and hay, with very little or no grain. One of the only farms in the area that I know of that will process meat Halal as well, if that’s important to you.
