I just moved back to Utah and my heart is broken that this place is closed!!! It’s been my all time favorite restraunt for years! I want the recipes at least!:(

Just because it’s a vegetarian restaurant doesn’t mean we all have to give it high ratings. Despite that fact, I admit that I added a star BECAUSE it’s a vegetarian place. If we lived in a vegetarian world, however, Evergreen House wouldn’t be able to compete. What annoys me is that there is such wasted, totally blown, really– opportunity for excellence! They know what we want. They tease us with the menu. Then the actual food arrives to disappoint so terribly. I have read some references to items on the menu being too sweet. I would have been relieved to taste something, anything at all. Instead all I could extract from the boring and bland food was that old cardboard taste of 1970s vegetarian fare you have to put up with at the good old bona fide hippie places for no reason other than it’s authentic or some nonsense. Hey. It’s the new millennium. Nowadays we don’t just lightly dust everything with curry that has too much nutmeg added. We do stuff to our food to make it taste good because we like to eat. End of rant. Service was friendly. The place isn’t anything special or so hole in the wall that it’s special. Wish I could say something positive beyond the service.

This vegetarian/vegan place has hearty portions with soybean(not tofu) dishes so it will even satisfy the meat eater in you. Okay yes, the dishes can be a little on the sweet side but I still enjoy it. I always get the same dishes every single time. The #7 curry potato with soybean or the #12 black pepper soybean(this dish is particularly sweet and not really peppery). If I’m with friends, sometimes I’ll get the red bean bao appetizer, crispy red bean filled triangle goodness. Yum! They have a lunch special which includes an entrée, brown rice and an egg roll. I don’t love their egg rolls. Too greasy for me. Their food isn’t traditional Chinese by any means but I still love it on occasion. The people who work there are so incredibly sweet. Evergreen isn’t one of those frou frou vegan places that charge an arm and a leg. I’ve been going to Evergreen for years so it has a special place in my heart.

EverGreen House is my favorite! I’ve eaten here for over 8 years and have enjoyed it every time. I was surprised, shocked even, to read bad reviews for this place! Sure… it’s tiny, kind of run down and the food IS sweet… bit it’s quaint, charming and really delicious! Any time I want to introduce a friend to vegan food or go out with my nonvegan friends… we go here. Truly scrumptious vegan Chinese food! My favorites are the Black Pepper Soybean(#12), the Curry Potato with Soybean(#7), Golden Nuggets(#4) and the Spring Rolls. I don’t drink soda but if I did I wouldn’t buy it from here. I think it’s too pricey for a can of soda. The staff are super friendly and actually quite adorable. Your meal will be cheap. In all these years, I think I saw prices rise(by cents) just once unlike a bunch of the vegan places around here who consistently raise prices… and lower portions. Not here! Always delicious. Always a good choice. Always. *sometimes they are closed unexpectedly. But they keep that info updated on their Facebook page.

Hi, my name is Michael and I love meat. Phew. Got that off my chest. That being said, I loooooved me some Ever Green House Café. Was looking for something a little different during a stop in Salt Lake City, and thought I give this vegan/vegetarian restaurant a try. The ambiance in the restaurant is a little dicey – place looks a little hole in the wall(which led me to believe further that it would be delicious), and there is an extra dining section that was closed when I got there in the early afternoon. Decided to do take out since I was meeting up with some friends and wanted some food quickly. That’s why I had to bump it down a star. I was the only one waiting and it took close to twenty minutes for my food to come out. And I was one hungry mofo. Enough about those cons. Let’s live in positivity. The food was delicious, and the lady who worked the cashed register/was the waitress/I assume was helping cook the food was adorable and sweet. I ordered the soybean with General’s sauce, which I assume was General Tso’s Tofu. I was wrong. It was a hearty portion of soy and something else with some shredded carrots thrown in there. The sauce was FANTASTIC. Earthy and sweet. Who needs meat when one has vegetarian food this delicious? Well, me, but that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a good vegetarian meal every now and then! Back off, mister judge-y.

I dream of the curry potato soybean, the yan su-chi(#23), and the red bean bao at least once a week. The curry mushroom stem is very good as well, but it does use eggs– in case you’re vegan. The black pepper soybean is like strips of lean, teriyaki beef– SO delicious. The lunch special is perfect, with perfectly cooked brown rice and a yummy spring roll. Everyone who has ever served me at Evergreen has been so sweet!

Good vegetarian food can be difficult to find in salt lake city. If you’re looking for a veg specialty like Chinese evergreen is the place to go. I took my veg guests from NYC and they loved it. The location is alittle quiet not very homely but the food makes it worthwhile Would not recommend the sweet and sour soup the ya Sui chi was very good 23

I have loved and frequented this restaurant for years — more so in my high school days than recently, but quite often. I recently went back for another go after a long hiatus. Same good ‘olé digs, same flaws. Firstly, they have great food. I have read the other reviews in here(and spoken amongst the people) that proclaim the horrid sweetness of almost every meal. Any truth to this? Yes, the food is sweeter in comparison to most other«authentic» Asian cuisine — although highly exaggerated by some. I believe that this is a cooking medium for attempting instant satisfaction for weary patrons — which may work quite well. As a foodie and Vegetarian, this sweeter side is not always to my appetite, but hardly a negative on their unique quality. All dishes I have tried have been cooked with love; great textures, careful vegetable pairing, and succulent house-made sauces. The dishes are presentable but not elegant, food is fulfilling, prices are right, service accommodating, lovely atmosphere. But there is where charms meets flaws; bad location and lack of easily discernible dishes. Again I will say it, I love the food, and the menu has many different and satisfying choices; my problem lies in diversity of Asian spices. There are different flavors, sure, but some pangs and flavorful nuances tend to spill over quite of number of dishes. Here’s the deal; this is great Vegan food that most people with find to be right up their alley of tastes and pleasures. Just don’t expect world class Asian artisan cooking. I love this restaurant, and will continue to flock there over the span of it’s years of service. It has a tastes of it’s own, a vibe of vitality — but I can hardly let that get in the way of a proper score. Go there and find out yourself. Any journey, is a great journey.

I have to give this place 5 stars just for being completely vegetarian/vegan. I can’t get them to prepare the food as spicily hot as I’d like, but they do bring me chili paste to put on the dishes. I love the Black Pepper Soybean which is prepared like a faux beef. I also really like the Curry Potato Mushroom Stem.

I have been going to Evergreen for years, one of my favorite vegan restaurants in Salt Lake City. Owned by wonderful Mr. and Mrs. Tu, who run the kitchen and are the cutest little couple and super friendly to everyone. Less than $ 10 for a meal, it’s well worth the food that you will be getting and healthy to boot. My favorite time to go is during lunch, as they serve a la carte options. Entrée, brown rice and an spring roll. I usually get the #4(fur free nuggets, surrounded by broccoli and served with a house made sauce) and/or #7(potato, carrots, soybean and curry). I crave Evergreen on a weekly basis and make sure that every time I am in town to grab a bite to eat here!

At my office we go pick up our lunch from here every Friday. The women who work are so friendly, and remember me everytime I come in. We love their egg rolls and hot and sour soup. However we usually de-grease the rolls with a handful of napkins. I’ve liked everything I’ve had, but sometimes the dishes don’t taste consistant. One time we weren’t happy with our soups, and the next time we came in they gave us complimentary soup! I would recomend this restaurant to any vegan/vegetarian in the slc area.

Best vegan restaurant in slc. I’m highly addicted to «Curry Potatoes and Soybean». I know it’s not in the greatest part of town, but totally worth going to. The lovely women that cooks, is amazing and I love how she always gets people to share rice, so not to waste. Everything that I have had there is really good. Yum Yum!

If I could, I’d give this place –1 stars. The other review is correct about bad their food is. They sweeten foods that shouldn’t be sweetened such as the hot and sour soup. What the heck? I can’t believe some of the positive reviews here…

I cannot believe all the good reviews for this place. Everything here is disgustingly sweet. It’s as if sugar exploded in the kitchen, and they’re having customers eat the disaster. We ordered the hot and sour soup — which was NOT hot and was more like sweet syrup than soup. I loaded it with pepper and hot sauce on the table to try and make it edible, but it was irrecoverably disgusting. Then we shared the Black Pepper Soybean and a second dish(I think it was the broccoli with soybean). Again, absolutely awful. I have never had such a bad meal in my life. Maybe the sugar is a SLC thing, but I can’t imagine that anyone could like this stuff. In sum, the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had and my worst vegan meal(yes, it was even worse than the time I was served dry pasta at a banquet event). But if you think that a pound of sugar is what’s been missing from Chinese food for all these years, then by all means, give it a whirl.

One of my favorite veggie/vegan places in town. It might look a bit scary from the outside… and inside is far from fancy-but the food is delicious. In the last couple months they have added a bunch of new items to the menu, so if you have not been in a while-go back! They added potstcikers to the menu-which is always a plus for me. After eating at Ever Green I like to take a walk up the street for some drinks at the Bayou. A perfect night!

I love this place! By far my favorite restaurant in Utah. Everyone I have taken there has loved it, and most were quite skeptical because Ever Green serves vegan cuisine. My favorite is the curry potato dinner(#7, I think) and the tofu bao. The black pepper soy is also quite tasty.

This place is a dive, but the food is pretty good. I was reluctant to even go inside, based on the outside appearance. Once inside, I was tempted to back right out of there. However, I was immediately greeted by a very friendly owner & server who welcomed me in. Now for the food: I started with the Spring Rolls. Presentation was pretty bad; they were swimming in a coating of oil. It took 4 napkins to soak it all up & the server even commented that she does the same thing. Once past the oil, the Spring Rolls tasted great. Lots of veggies & great seasoning. For my entrée, I ordered the Black Pepper«Beef»(due to the previous review) & Rainbow Kung Pao(«shrimp»). The Black Pepper«Beef» was just ok, the veggies were the best part. The«beef» needed a little more seasoning & the whole dish was a little too saucy. The Kung Pao was really good. I was a little nervous about the«shrimp», but it was surprisingly good. The dish had lots of veggies, tons of «shrimp» and was very well seasoned with chili pepper flakes. Overall, its a good place. They accept credit cards, but NOTAMEX.

All I need to say is… Black Pepper Beef. Seriously. Oh, and the egg rolls have some sort of subtle curry spice in them– amazing. And really, really good potstickers. And this amazing lunch deal where you get a ton of food and it’s under $ 6. But really, all I need to say is… Black Pepper Beef.
