This review is for my hairdresser of 20 years Ryan Christensen at Salon Lydia. Yes, I repeat 20 years! He is that good, and I would follow him anywhere. Best colorist on the planet. Period.

At first everything was good I text Kristina trying to make an appointment, we made an appointment for 7pm I went in knowing absolutely nothing about hair or bleaching and she knew that and took complete advantage of it I’ll explain later on. I had dark brown almost black hair and i want to do a black to grey melt so she put bleach on my hair and upsaled olaplex as well, she then put me on to warmers and I sat there for about 25 – 30 minutes and she told me my hair was not lifting and she took me to get my hair washed and she put toner in I probably sat at the sink for 40 minutes with my hair wet I was extremely cold and my neck was starting to hurt pretty bad and I wasn’t sure if this was usual. as i was sitting there she told me that since my hair wouldn’t lift that I would have to make another appointment and that I would have to pay the full service again $ 120. I had no idea if she was ripping me off at the time but I was really disappointed. I felt like she was extremely rushed the whole time I later found out that I was supposed to have the bleach in for a lot longer than 20 – 30 minutes(I had my hair fixed the next day from somebody else, they couldn’t believe what had been done to my hair) I was really shocked when she finished blow dying my hair and she was like wow its so beautiful you should keep it like this! I hated hated hated it but I didn’t want to be mean which was extremely stupid of me because I spent $ 150 on a really ugly melt. My hair was literally black and then orange. I went home crying because it was so ugly and I spent $ 150 all because she probably just wanted to go home early. It was a bad first experience getting my hair bleached thankfully the salon I went to the next day fixed my hair. ALSO the hair stylists need to watch their mouths and I really hope they read this because there was a lot of trash talking among the girls and they were making fun of a previous client and saying she was probably on drugs and made fun of another clients hair saying her hair was gross. Just completely disgusted with this salon a waste of $ 150 at first I felt bad and thought she was a really nice lady but now I realize she took advantage of me…

I have been going to Salon Lydia since I was about 19 years old to Jamie for my color. She restored my hair to full health after it had been horribly damaged. It is now long and healthy and the perfect shade of blonde that I get compliments on absolutely everywhere I go. She’s sweet and talented and has become a best friend. The salon is nice and cozy and the owners will treat you like family.

I visited this salon last year for a haircut. My goal was to find a regular stylist because I relocated to SLC2 years ago. My first impression was good. Making an appointment was easy and the person who took my call was efficient and polite. My first impression of the salon upon walking in was fine. Clean, nice — decent selection of products to choose from. And it just sort of rolled downhill and plateaued from there. The stylist, Christina, was 20 minutes late for my appointment. She didn’t even seem to notice she was horrendously late and gave no apology. She also didn’t introduce herself off hand which I find uncomfortable when meeting a first time client.(I was a hair stylist for 9 years.) The haircut was fine. Nothing to rant and rave about — but it wasn’t bad. She attempted to up-sell me extensions which I would have been interested in if they weren’t $ 800 for brain in’s. I can get a weave done in da hood back in Denver for $ 300 including hair so I wouldn’t even consider $ 800. Although i know that’s not totally outrageous. All in all I didn’t think the experience was worth $ 40. It was a $ 20 haircut and a $ 10 experience. I haven’t been back and I never will. I still need a stylist if anybody has any recommendations for hip edgy well priced stylists in the murray area!

I see Kristina at Salon Lydia. She is extremely knowledgably and is doing wonders with my hair. I came to Kristina because my old-stylist was over-processing my hair(but was blaming it on stress, health issues, over conditioning). Kristina confirmed my suspicions and has taken delicate care of my hair, in hopes of getting it to be strong/healthy again. We have put in tape extensions and light coloring, I have been seeing here for about 10 weeks and you can already see a difference. Plus my hair color, is way better. Scheduling can be difficult, but I am partially to blame.

I see Ryan Christensen at Salon Lydia. I’ve been going to him for about six months now, and I am a fan. I called to make an appointment with someone else, but she was book up, and so they game me Ryan instead, and I’m eternally grateful for it. He’s fun and friendly. He must keep notes or something, because he always seems to remember even the most mundane details of my life. He’s fast, but not too fast. I never feel like I’m being rushed through so he can make room for the next client. Even better, he seems to understand what I want, even though I’m terrible at describing it. I don’t know the terminology, but he can figure it out from my lame attempts to describe. I see him for cut and color. He’s a wonderful colorist. I’ve always shied away from highlights, because no one has ever been able to do them and make them look good and natural, but Ryan has managed the impossible. It costs about $ 80 each time. I am never disappointed when I leave. I’m going back in a week, and I can’t wait. The salon itself is rather large and open. They do nails as well. They always offer me coffee and other beverages while I’m waiting for my color. There’s a decent selection of magazines to read, if you don’t have a smart phone or book.

There is no better hair stylist in this country than Randy at Salon Lydia. I moved away from Utah almost six years ago, but still go back to him for cut and color at least once a year. I’ve lived in southern California and just outside New York City, and haven’t found anyone who can match his talents for cut or color. Add to that killer skill set superior listening and comprehension, plus a great combination of professionalism and personality. Oh how I wish I lived closer!!!
